Well long time no see XDA Dev's!
i was here ages ago when i had the touch diamond phone, wich is garbage
im now in posession of a iphone 4, but in 1 month i can choose a new phone.
So my eyes are all focussed on the HTC Evo 3d, but also on the samsung 3d phone.
dont think i didnt do my research. i spend 4 hours today watching and seeing reviews and battle's of the phones.
What ive learned, and i really would like your opinion of this list to see if its correct or lies...(and ive never touched one of the phones ever)
-The evo3d does not have alot of depth? (how is it compared to the 3ds?)
-The evo3d falls behind in benchmarks and games compared to the optimus 3d?
so what do you think about this?
Secondly, i really do like the design of the evo3d. the design of the optimus is a bit crappy IMO.
And maybe one of you guys know wich phone will have smoother browsing and games playing?(planning on buying some 3d games.)
and the specs online...
some say the evo has 4gb of internal memory...other say its 1gb.
some say it can only make 2MP 3d pictures. others say 5MP. (and if they are 2mp cant it be hacked?)
and finally ive read that the optimus 3d does NOT has multitouch while the evo has...is that true?
and is it possible to rip the 3d menu of the optimus and put it on the evo3d? that would probaly help me in making a purchase descision, lol!
And are the browsers, menu's ect smooth? because i come from a iphone...and iphone is 100% smoothness. no lag whatsoever.
Thanks for your time! i will also make this topic on the optimus3d side...so i will learn as much as possible
From what I've read the O3D can make 3MP 3D photo's.
I'm not sure about this myself as I haven't had the pleasure of playing with an Evo3D yet but I hear all kinds of stories that the 3D effect on the Evo is indeed less than that of the O3D.
And yes, the Evo falls behind in most benchmarks by quite a bit sometimes. The Evo has 1GB of memory, the O3D has 512MB but so far there's nothing that doesn't run smooth as butter on the O3D.
Browsing feels very smooth, comparing it with my iPhone it's about the same experience I'd say. The standard launcher is pretty smooth as well, though I always use Launcher Pro Plus which runs absolutely great, no lag whatsoever.
As far as multi-touch goes, the O3D definately has true multi-touch. In Touch Tester it tracks all ten of my fingers at the same time with pinpoint accuracy.
I don't think you can extract the 3D menu from the O3D and implement it in the Evo3D. I think as far as content goes, the O3D is the better deal. You have the whole 3D menu thing which is nice, there's 8 3D games to choose from at the moment of which 3 are already pre-installed (as opposed to one demo on the Evo) and the O3D has native support for 3D 720p mkv files.
the optimus 3D has true multi-touch... actually when i tested multi-touch it can detect 10 of my fingers.
as far as browsing goes- the optimus 3d is smoother, go watch phonedog's optimus 3d vs evo 3d comparison. you can notice there how smoother browsing is on the optimus 3d. i have the optimus 3D and browsing really is good
games... there are currently more compatible games on the optimus 3D. LG and gamesloft made a partnership. Gamign on the optimus 3d is really good. cause as we all know it has that dual core, dual channel dual memory. i heard some games runs crap and buggy on the sensation and the evo 3d.
the evo 3d has 4gb built in internal memory BUT only 1 gb is usable. the remaining 3GB is being used by the system..
optimus 3d can take 3mp 3D photos.
currently, there is no known way to port the 3D space apllication to the evo 3D.
tip:
if 3D is what you're after then i can 100% recommend optimus 3D. it has more 3d contents and takes better 3d videos and photos.
thanks guys. well 3d is one of the biggest things im exited about but the design of the optimus 3d is soooo ****ty IMO...
and 1.2ghz of dual core wich can be overclocked to 1.8 sounds real sexy as well.
peacekeeper05, did you also got a hold on the evo 3d at a store to compare or similar?
ofcource the optimus got more 3d content right now....but the display of the evo 3d is better, and i think in the future we will see alot more 3d content.
yep. already had a chance to test personally an evo 3d. my friend has a blog that reviews phones. he's the one that gave me an optimus 3d.
yep evo does run on 1.2 ghz but it is based on cortex a8. a previous generation architecture. while the 1 ghz running on the optimus 3d is cortex a9. giving it a 30-50% boost in performance compared to cortex a8. so don't be fooled by qualcomm's 1.2ghz marketing. and again, it has a dual channel dual ram technology. so the dual processors can easily access ram memory.
and why would you want to overclock your phone? it will only drain your battery epicly fast. overclocking it to insane speeds can bring serious damage to your phone on the long run. the phone was not designed to run 1.8 ghz so overheating will be inevitable.
screen wise, there is not much difference at all really, the screen on the evo 3d seemed washed out after minutes of using it.
about the looks and design, we have our own opinion. the evo 3d looks like a toy because of the two red weird looking cameras at the back
not only optimus 3d has more 3D contents, it has better 3D viewing. it has more depth and less eye straining.
LG will be releasing an application that can convert 2D games to 3D so expect more 3D contents in the future. while HTC still doesn't have any concrete plans about the evo.

i doubt that converter will be any good...
but for the rest you pretty much made me convinced i need to have the optimus above the evo.

You certainly don't wont to do that. I really doubt that it can give more than 1.5GHz but even so you will run out of battery soon enough. And talking about hardware, the 3vo 3d falls back by far. They tried to balance the loss with the 200MHz boost and the 512MB of additional ram but they still fall far behind in comparisons. The only phone that's going better than the optimus 3D right now is the galaxy sII.

The display of the evo3d is better overall concerning the colour quality but the 3D performance of the optimus is noticably better.
When it comes to whether the phone is good looking or not, I guess it is more a personal choice. I find the camera buttons for evo 3d is nice but then evo 3d users are already saying that the 2d-3d switching button easily get loose. the 3D button on O3D is a good idea but then that's not really too useful ^^
Talking about OC, I wouldn't bother about OC a phone with dual core. If really needs to OC to get the desire performance, then the phone itself already failed the design.
Also, just need to really look at questions users are asking in both groups E3D and O3D. You will see a greta difference. So far no one using O3D talks about things inside or outside their phone "dropping apart" with the exception of the missing FM radio.
For E3D, there are more than enough compaints and yelling for refund.
Personally I am neither a fan for HTC or LG. But trying to learn from the technical part of the phones, although E3D is running at 1.2ghz with dual core, the way the cpu design is quite strange as it is designed as "until a core is fully utilised, the second core won't be working". I come across a review which stated this. I was puzzled as well until I saw others from the E3D group saying that some benchmarks only report one core being working. May be that is why E3D has much more problem.
On the other hand, reports on O3D is totally the other way. The clock speed is lower but performance is better.
So IMO, although the tech spec for E3D looks better, it still has a lot to polish up before it can be stable. O3D on the other hand, really play safe and release a much more stable phone instead. Personally I think LG is smart on using froyo than gingerbread as many phones on gingerbread ae suffering from battery drain include
Samsung galaxy S/S2 (stock rom). My wife is using a SGS now and I moved back to froyo custom rom(darky's 9.5) to amek sure she is not complaining about battery drain. So I rather wait for a stable gingerbread release from LG without the drain.
In terms of customisation, it will be better off to use HTC thou. HTC is more open on their source for their phones. (samsung is really open).. LG is definitely not that open.
So my suggestion, if you are on the adventurous side, E3D. If you want to stick with a phone without much customizations and tweaks, then O3D
i already see that the obvious chocie is the optimus 3d so far...
i really like the notification led, wich shows if i got a new email or sms, without touching the phone..
and the design is so much better. also a fan of htc sense..
but no, i do not want any trouble and **** with my phone...
i dont care about 1080p or 720p, as long as that doesnt get any lower. I do care about photo's. if the evo makes 2MP pictures in 3d or 3MP, that will also help me alot in my descision.
but i'l wait for the europian version of the evo 3d...if that doesnt chance things according to the first reviews in terms of stability, bugs, 3d functionality...i made my choice.
^
Hmm, lg is by far the most open. From my optimus one and optimus 2x/g2x experience they had been releasing sources really fast. All of their android phones have unlocked bootloaders and are very eaay to root and hack. Even paul of modaco and cyanogenmod team praised how they love the hackability of LG phones. The only sources that are not being released are from their hardware partners like nvidia who refuses to give the full driver source for their products....

Nice so its only a matter of time? Isnt sense 3.0 already ripped from another phone? Because if i can have it on the optimus3d when im back from holidays in about 25 days my choice is made
I didn't have that high hopes for this phone after currently owning a Galaxy S2 and tried a sensation but sent it back as I thought it was crap.
But have to say the 3D is astonishing as soon as I started to play 3D videos and take them I knew there was no going back to the GS2 as nice as the screen is on the GS2 playing 2D stuff just looks poor, I will warn you the battery life is pretty poor.
I showed lots of people the GS2 and they said yeah its nice phone etc etc, lots of these were Iphone drones as I call them lol, I then showed them the O3D and they were blown away by I think I have finally shown them there life other than Apple products.
If 3D is big for you then this phone won't be a let down but it has issues as i said with the battery life, I was thinking of trying one of the 1900mah extended battery's I have seen on Ebay but it makes me wonder if they can make a good 1900mah battery why didn't LG put it in this phone anyway.
My main worry for this phone is development, even when I got the GS2 on launchthere were custom roms out and the same when I tried the sensation, lots of going on in the development section even though the phone still has a locked bootloader but there is nothing for this, it makes me wonder if its going to be passed over by them.

And since it seems the evo3d gets rooted next week or so, i really want to hear possibilities
Thanks!
Omg...
sense is not just a theme or a launcher, its a total change of android.
the evo 3d IS NOT the o3d so the rom from htc is more or less useless!
if you whant sense then sell your o3d and get an evo 3d and stop asking fkr a useless port.
youl'll see if somebody is bored enought to try a port but till then it's useless to open such a thread.

You said it. Sense is nice. So nice that its a selling point for me.
The optimus's cortex 9 and apparantly better 3d view are sexy as well. But the design of the phone sucks imo, doesnt have a notification led and the resolution is fair, but not great, also saw better 2d photos and videos on youtube coming from the evo3d.
So im having a hard time, like i also said in other topics^^
The evo3d gets root as well next week probaly, so you cant convince me with the custom roms, unless it can make the optimus run sense3.0.
Also its stopid that everyone here tries to get me to the optimus side, and at the evo3d forum everybody says their 3vo is better. I knew thiswould happen but it makes making descisions harder. Im glad some people saw both phones and at least now i know the optimus3d does got a better 3d screen.
You will see 2D more than 3D. Sense is a selling point for you so buy the HTC EVO 3D.

if sense is really a must have for you, you should buy the htc because it will take some MONTHS to port it to the o3d and maybe it would be still full of bugs.
you could make it yourself a little bit easyer to decide through a professional way:
first of all make a list of all the attributes of your favorite phone for e.g.
processingpower
ui
style
price
camera
display
storage
connectivity
community
support
battery
and so on
sort them by giving them points.
now choose wich phone gets what attributepoints.
and you'll see what phone has the most points!
if its to hard to decide between two attributes you can compare them to all the other attributes
i hope this will help you

For all the noobs, 3d is just for bragging, don't worry about that, I end up playing the 3d games with low 3d settings... and i have the o3d, that said, i would love a sense ui but i think the developers should do it with the 2.3 !
Both phones are nice and fast, maybe battery is the most decisive aspect.
LG we want 2.3 !!!!
I would like to try Sense on the O3D. For me it isn't a choice between phone, but a choice between Sprint and AT&T. Sprint doesn't have service in my area so... That being said, I am only choosing this phone now instead of waiting for the next Nexus because I don't want to wait anymore, 3D gives bragging rights to non-geeky friends, and there is no guarantee the next Nexus device will come to AT&T. I trust that developers will create oodles of ROM's incuding Ice Cream Sandwich. I hope.

I agree with you. O3D with 2.2 is already faster than other 2.3 phones. Also the UI is very clean and useful. It actually got all the missing features from samsung touchwiz. For myself I am happy with it. I have used htc desire and aria as well, sense is good and useful, but use up too much resource. So unless a launcher is designed as a general launcher like golauncher, I would not have great hope in a ported launcher for specific brand. As there are specific codes within those launchers.

Well, I thought of 3D as a gimmick before I got it. This was mostly because of me seeing 3D effects on the 3DS. I wanted the phone for the processor and that Tri-Dual architecture that LG was advertising about. After I got it though, I realized that 3D wasn't a gimmick, but a extended optional feature of the phone.
I compared the 3D of the optimus with a friend's Evo3D and I can say that the 3D on the optimus is more... realistic. It just pops out more and easier to look at.
Furthermore, if you really want to give 3D a try, I would suggest the Optimus 3D over the Evo 3D just because of more 3D content that is offered. Truth is, LG put a lot more work in making the Optimus 3D a 3D phone.
From personal opinions, it appears that LG made the Optimus 3D as a 3D phone that is capable of being used as a 2D phone. While HTC made a 2D phone with 3D capabilities.
That's how it appears to be because it looks like they took different approaches to it.
Due to this, if you wanted to try a 3D phone, I would suggest the Optimus 3D.
In terms of smoothness, I've never felt a phone as smooth as the Optimus 3D using stock rom and launcher. I'm pretty sure the OMAP Processor and Dual Channel Memory plays a part in this. What impressed me the most was that it was this smooth in Froyo.
For the Evo3D, I can't give much opinions in terms of smoothness because the Evo3D I looked at was already bloated up with apps that my friend downloaded.
Camera quality is not too great on the Optimus 3D. I can not comment about the Evo 3D camera, but I can tell you about the Optimus 3D one. I find the image quality to be lacking. Photos have a lot of noise to them and they appear to be... whitened. However, I believe everyone is waiting for the camera update to come. Hopefully it'll fix the quality. In the meantime, I'm making due with 3rd party camera apps. 3D pictures however, turn out pretty well.

I believe it is time for another upgrade, i've been upgrading almost like every 2 months for the past 8 months or so.
- HTC Magic
- HTC Tattoo
- LG Optimus One
- Samsung Galaxy S
- LG Optimus 2X - Present
I've got a buyer of my LG 2X in my family, so i wont buy any device at it's full price.
So in my country i've got SGSII at 499€ or the Optimus 3D at 459€
Share your thoughts with me, is O3D worth it for 40€ less than the SGSII?
I'm starting to get sick of LG, and all of its *upgradeable* while not being upgraded. (officially OFC, i'm running latest miui now)
I originally got the sgs2 and had enough problems with it (overheating etc). Gave it back as DOA when it burnt a pixel on day10 and got the lg 3d. Don't regret it even for a minute. I like it more. It feels and IS fast and all that on 2.2 froyo. I guess it will be even better on 2.3. Got it to reach 3600+ quadrant and though benchmarks aren't everything it is really fast man. And all those without any overclocking at all and stock rom v10k. Though sgs2 heating problem is (reportedly) solved i wouldn't go anywhere near it again.nice colors on screen but really bad resollution when you zoom in on text for example, plus some colors appear glitched (see angry birds sky up close). Battery was lasting me as long as o3d does give or take half an hour difference and i am a really heavy user...(sometimes i charge twice a day)
Plus o3d feels nice in your hand and build quallity is great whilesgs2 felt like a piece of cheap plastic (which it really is)... hope i helped
4 me it's a very simple question, and has a very simple answer...
Do you like and want 3D sbs effects on your phone? yes= buy lgo3d
no= buy samsung sgs2
Thats basically my question, i believe that the SGSII is a better device, and i would only go to the 3D if i wanted 3D, since i don't the 3D technology today is going to revolucionize anything, is it worth?
Plus i think that asking this questions here, i will most likely be convinced by O3D people xD
What about updates? FFS this is October, ICS is almost launched! Why are we still using Froyo?! and please don't give me the "stability" answer, froyo is more stable simply because LG worked on Froyo and not on GB.
Software-wise i believe that Samsung is doing a greater job.

Software-wise i believe that Samsung is doing a greater job.

Hello,
If you can deal with its screen, sure SGS2 is a very good phone.
I couldn't deal with the crazy colors, so far from real ones. I can't bear to read Internet pages that are supposed to be white displayed in a pale blue...
Without this screen i would have go for it.
Here in France the O3D can be found new at 349€. So that's 150 less than SGS2. So it does make a difference.
And the feeling in hands for SGS 2 was not pleasant.
hmm, nice point webgelato...this might actually be the best argument in my own *personal* research of what is the best...
I seems that the main (and actually only serious) complaint about the SGSII is the weird way that the SAMOLED+ likes to treat colors... blueish tintings and yellow tints in some cases...
If i knew things what i know now then i would go with the sgs2. This fones specs are respectable but software is a nightmare. No real custom roms yet. I really get mad sometimes with this phone where simple things such as SMS typing turns a nightmare cause the keyboard acts out regardless the softkeyboard weather stock or installed one. And also you have to reboot the phone at least every week or so because is get really sluggish. As of today i wouldn't recommend this phone even if u want three d

I've come from the Optimus 2X running MIUI and I can honestly say I don't regret getting this phone for 1 minute, I do have to admit that this phone hasn't got the developers that the O2X has got and I do miss changing roms all the time but I think it will only be a matter of time before it has. I personally think that the sgs2 is a damn good phone but I just think it feels a little plastic and fragile where as the O3D feels a little more solid.
If you can put up with the lack of updates and developers for a while, I think this phone will then get a lot better...

Exactly!
No one has even tried to port anything for O3D yet. When I had my SonyEricsson X10 and we were stuck with Android 2.1 and a locked bootloader, developers managed to port awesome ROMs. We had a fully working MIUI Gingerbread and lots of Gingerbread ROMs.
But now with O3D, not even a buggy port! Nothing at all! Not even a massively buggy MIUI port to at least taste the MIUI on our phone.
And all the current Custom ROMs that say "LG stuff is removed" are lying. For example the AcuraTeam and King3D ROM have removed the Social+ widget but you can still see the Social+ settings in the Account settings menu.
SelfKANG2 is still so buggy and needs attention but there hasn't been an update for the past three weeks. Aremcee is mainly working on Optimus 2X and Optimus Black.
I regret that I didn't buy a Galaxy S II instead of O3D.
I would recommend you to stay with the 2X a while and then decide.
O3D is a stupid buy at the moment, but since Cyanogenmod is releasing their mod in a few weeks, O3D will be much better.
We have a dual core phone using Froyo. That's like saying we have a Lamborghini with a 1.0L engine.
Froyo doesn't support dual core like it is suppose too.
The O3D has a OMAP4 chip which today is probably the best chip ever for mobile phones and other devices.
We will be able to use Linux on our phones without any big portings since there is already stable releases for different linux distros for OMAP4.
I have a O3D but I'm still using my DHD. I didn't buy my O3D for the 3D function, i bought it for the dual core, the 4.3" screen and the OMAP4 chipset.

Am aware of the power of the TI chipset and it's awesomeness. I still think that LG sucks software-wise, and that everyone will be waiting impatiently for an outdated Android version GB. Thats my big downside for choosing LGO3D

That is the main reason for me choosing the O3D over the O2X mainly because of the bigger screen and the OMAP4 and of course aremcee saying thats its a damn good phone was the final thing that made me want to change.
I have had this phone for a week and can say i love the idea of 3d but so far roms (no disrespect to devs) have been really poor. phone doesnt come close to the Samsung S2 and HTC sensation XE which i both have.
Am i doing something wrong with O3D or can you guys recommend me a rom to flash.
iv had loads of htc smartphones and samsung but first lg and feel abit lost seems like this forumn is dormant.

Hi5 for that..I thought more would come from the development community but nothing..they say LG files are hard to deal with..overallisappointed
Well, the Optimus 3D is not the most popular phone by LG. The Optimus Speed is much more commonly used by people.
I recently switched from the Speed to the 3D (exchanged by LG) and must say that I kind of expected the same variety in Roms as with my previously stated phones, right as you noticed, too. Currently there aren't that much devs on the O3D. But nevertheless they are doing a great job. Just try out the Roms and look which you like most. Currently I am using Thiaizos Rom and I must say I like it the most atm.
I think most people are just a little afraid of the 3D-technics in this phone and do not know if its good or not. And if you do not want the 3D, there are definatley better phones available right know (Mostly related to form factor, not hardware itself).
Additionaly LG is not the most famous smartphone producer...

totally right, but I thought due to the 3D thing it would get more popularity,I think the hardware is really great and I compared it to the S2 and minor inferiority found, but still we wish more costume ROMS may support our phone cause I think it deserves such nice device, thanks anyway

The S2 is one of the if not the best android or phone out there and iv had the iphone 4s lol my o3d s2 and sensation are better than that S2 is awesome tho. some of the mods are soo cool.
for this device id love cm7 with 3d
The 3d features make this phone unique and i love it think the 3d games and vids are awesome.
i guess in the end ICS is coming out so hopefully will help our phone improve
What chance do ROM developers have if LG the hardware maker can not make a decent Gingerbread for this phone. I have personally went back to froyo after having freezing issues, Ghost calls and sms.
I got very close couple times to smashing this useless phone into pieces, I am reduced now to using my Iphone 4 again.
I agree with You guys. I had a S2 and it was great both with orig. firmware, miui and custom roms. Smooth as butter, and always working. Now I changed it for HTC Titan, and it also works great.
But O3D is another story.... Great idea, great hardware and ****ty software from the begining till now. GB is only marginaly faster but still buggy as hell.
I got info from the support that no GB updates are in the work for now. So we are stuck with v21a for qiute some time.
Also the devs are few and not very motivated (except Tiazo), and LG isn`t helping at all.
I realy don`t get it - it looks as if they are shooting themself in the foot???
I think this is my last LG ever! Even thou I have a great 2 year support from my cell phone network I`m goin to sell this stillborn pnone and get a deecent one. Even iPhone is better... lol
Got an unbranded new O3D yesterday, had the chance of selling it to a galaxy nexus, but what about 3D? Can I live without it again? No I cant. 3D is a way better function imo than SGS2's smoothness or even galaxy nexus's ICS. I owned SGS2 and own an ICS phone, both are amazing, I love ICS , but we r getting it sooner or later, but i repeat again, we have 3D and for me it is the best function so far in a smartphone.

Well it's simple equation man,we are getting ICS and many tweaks and customizations for the O3D like S2 or Nexus(We have enough hardware features no one can deny)..but can those phones get the 3D feature in them?
Noooooooooo..so that's what makes the difference,3D is a revolution and I heard a piece of news saying Samsung is about to produce 3D supported phones..Meaning??=Teased!
all we need now is patience and trying to support each other until there are enough resources that no one can complain..PEACE
Well hopefully when Samsung release a 3d smartphone next year it will be a lot better than the Optimus 3d so we will finally have a good 3d smartphone that works properly.

I don't understand all this complaining, my O3D has worked pretty much perfect from Day 1 using stock rom, we just received GB update and everything seems to be working fine for me...improved the camera and also released the 3D converter after launch, and LG promised an ICS upgrade too what more do you want.
This phone has better hardware and features than the Evo 3D and is only slightly behind the GSII in performance...looking forward to LG's next 3D phone I will be first in line.

3D is indeed amazing but the Optimus 3d isn't the best phone to show it off. As the phone has had so many problems and LG seems to be forgetting the 2d side with bad 2d photo quality and only improving the 3d side doesn't help things.
Once more better 3d phones come out in the future which are better over all then phones functions then hopefully 3D smartphones will become more popular.

2D photos seem fine to me but I found that a replacement camera app, Camera Zoom FX, made it so much better so I guess the problem is the phones software rather than the hardware.
In regard to others making a better 3D phone, so far LG's 3D comes out best in reviews and so, as other manufacturers have yet to catch up, I would expect Optimus 3D 2 to be best 3D phone next year as well. But it better have 1 GB ram as even I have to admit 512 is not always enough recently.

I've been really enjoying the 3D functionality of this phone. I'm still on the stock ROM and haven't been worried about alternate ROMs. This phone runs really well.
I also own an HTC Sensation and I have owned a Samsung Galaxy S II.....but they don't do 3D and - for me - 3D is THE reason to buy an LG Optimus 3D phone.
I've had a play with the HTC Evo 3D...and the 3D display on the Evo just isn't as good as the display on the Optimus 3D.
I'm looking forward to the official firmware upgrade. I only install alternate ROMs if that actually ADD value to the device. I've had my fill of broken Franken-ROMs that eat my time.

Considering that I like to constantly update the latest ROMs including CyanogenMod I wouold appreciate any advice you can give me regarding this LG and any pros cons you can think of...
Thanks in advance to everyone!

3D phone ... we dont even consider HTC a 3D phone. There are many better phones (non 3D) than O3D but not EVO 3D
Being 3D frame work not open custom development with 3D is not at the highest level and LG firmware have issues.
People are experimenting with firmware of 3Dmax which have basically the same hardware to work on our O3D. If successful you will be holding in your hands one sweet piece of technology.

As cool_recep pointed out already lots of issues with LG's O3D. Good that you're doing research before buying that's what I do myself. But when the phone is just launched there isn't much information one can get. So i was suckered into buying Nokia N900 and recently O3D.
If i had waited few months like you have done, i wouldn't have made one of the biggest mistakes ever in my electronic purchases in 40 years, of buying this good piece of hardware but with the worst software support and bugs.
So a friendly advice wait just a few more weeks/months to see how the new 3Dmax is doing and if you really want a 3D phone buy it. I wouldn't ever suggest an LG phone ever. Even if it's the last company left making mobile phones i would just keep using my old phone instead of buying anything from LG. This company ignored the whole community of O3D owners for 4 months of constant complaining before even acknowledging that there was some prob like Ghost call on O3D.
Apart from ghost calls issue im happy with my O3D.

Answering only your title question "Best 3D phone: LG or HTC?", there is absolutely no doubt that the LG is by far the best on 3D.
The HTC 3D is a joke in comparison.
I've had a LG P920 since just after release date and have been disappointed until recently. My phone always used to restart at random times when it wasn't being used, performance is a little poor compared to other devices I've had and apps have a knack of either freezing or not working such as the camera. The amount of times I missed a photo opportunity because the stupid camera won't take a picture when I press the button to take a picture. This also causes a problem when I want to use the LED flash as a torch as sometimes the flash just won't turn on.
I went for the LG because it had a slightly better camera on it and as I wanted the phone primarily to take 3D photos and videos it was the better option (I regret it now). I've also found the LG lacks 3D content on it where as the HTC I think has a film download app included on the phone.
So I would recommend not getting a 3D phone, wait for the next generation of 3D phones :
Lg optimus 3d hardware is beeter than evo 3D by far.

Thanks for your replies everyone!!!
I wasn't aware of all these issues with the LG... it's a shame coz from my reasearch it seems to have better 3D capability than the HTC, however, that's not worth much if it keeps letting you down...
btw, are there any news of any upcoming 3D phones (or this so-called next generation)?
That would be really great and I'm aware theres a second model from LG coming out soon, the P720, but not sure when or whether it's really worth waiting; from the specs it seems the only thing improved was the CPU from 1000mhz to 1200mhz...
Maybe it will improve on the issues mentioned by FC360 of features constantly crashing...
All feedback is welcome!
Thanks
o3d's/thrill's hardware is one of the best in dual cores !!
it is the best portable media player i've owned, plays every media file you throw at it !
hdmi out is excellent !
almost everyone complains about the ghost calls/messages, but till now i didnt have a single issue with it (v21d baseband) !
it is just the lack of software support that pulls the optimus 3d back !
but ics has been officially confirmed by lg for the optimus 3d !
even we may get ics when it is released for 3d max
which would be much much earlier than the one lg officially releases for the o3d !

More or less an opinion.
Granted; I've only owned the Optimus, but I've owned many other HTC phones before and many smartphones(apple, lg, samsung, etc)
This LG has satisfied me the most out of everyone I have ever had, why? The price. This phone cost me $200 and I get better performance than some people's $400 phones. If you are willing to pay the extra bit of money, hell, get a HTC. But for $200, the O3D is a great phone. I'm in no way denying the ghost call/ghost sms issue, but I personally haven't experienced it owning this phone since release and using stock roms for most of that time. it's got a decent camera, good 3D capability(despite that not being a remote selling point to me) fast processor, and good build quality. Something I noticed when I pickup up a Samsung device 3 times the cost of mine, is it felt so unbelievably cheap. LG has good build quality from my experience.
Not to say the HTC isn't a good phone, because I've liked every HTC phone I've had too, but for the price an O3D cannot be beat.
As for me with no problem with Ghost call etc, I'd go for O3D. If you have a problem with GB, then stick with Froyo.
I think Chainfire3D cannot use on ICS. If that the case, even if ICS release for O3D, I'll stay with current ROM.
I will tell you what i say to my customers.
If you like 3D its ok.
If you dont care about 3D and not gonna use it buy a Samsung.

exept 3D , the O3D has good performance with custom roms in a common use
I owe an O3D, and im totally satisfied with the hardware (only custom ROM's can make it work properly and smooth) but if you check strictly the stats EVO got better,
1gb ram over 512
540 x 960 over 480 x 800
1.2ghz over 1ghz
But anyways the 3D world on O3D is way lot better
