Hi everyone,
I've got a Desire S on 3 UK. I wan't to get S-Off and root.
In trying to check whether I have S-Off or not already, I realised that I can't access the bootloader screen (i.e. by holding volume down when powering on).
The first thing that I see is the 3 UK splash screen.
I'm just wondering if there is something different about this device?
Has anyone else seen this?

Remove the battery once you've turned the device it off, or disable fast boot from within settings> power as device isn't correctly being powered down when it's on.
And you should get into bootloader fine.

i had that problem. Have you tried taking out the battery, putting it back in and then pressing volume down and the power button?
EDIT?: beat me to it!
Thanks guys!
Turned off fast-boot and confirmed S-On.
Well that was easy, alpharevx + gingerbreak on current 3 UK rom worked a treat!
Thanks!

Hey guys,
I wondering if anyone could help me out?
My problem is that my phone isn't allowing me to start into Recovery mode. I take out the battery and re-insert it, then hold the Volume down + Power button, but it just normally boots the phone. What's frustrating me is that the first couple times I attempted it, it worked, and now all of a sudden it doesn't. I've had other Android phones, and I've never had a problem like this. So, any help would be grealy appreciated. Thanks!
Can you get in recovery from ROM manager?

I dont know if the same thing that happened to you, but but I was having the same issue. I'm used to my G1 just barely holding down home and power, with the Sensation I had to hold down vol and power for like 15 secs.

Go into Settings -> Power and disable the Fastboot option. That is what is preventing you from booting into Recovery. You also will want to enable ADB Debugging under Settings -> Applications -> Development
You could also try the other way by going into the bootloader then into the recovery.
Whilst the phone is on, reboot the phone. Once the screen turns off, hold the volume down button for a while until the bootloader screen pops up. Select the option to load recovery. I've been doing it this way.
Now that I think about it, maybe there's a way to skip straight to recovery instead of bootloader =\
It worked! Thank you guys for your help!
Damn, I used to know all this stuff, too. I didn't think it's been that long since I've tried to mess with any Android device. Errr
But anyways, thanks, again!
@ op, glad ppl helped u bt u should prolly hit 'em thanks buttons when u get help

Hi,
I wanted to debrand by phone so i did the supercid thing to change from t-mob_005 to 1111111, then i installed latest HTC rom (and ver 4.0.4 software number 2.21.401.10) which in turn upgraded hboot to 1.14 and baseband to 1.06s.
Now, ive got my new token id and resubmitted to htcdev and then installed the new unlock_code it gave me back, all seemed to go thru ok, came up with the screen about voiding warranty, use volume to select yes or no, ive selected yes and it then reboots... but still the bootloader says relocked. ive tried the same over and over and even gone thru the process of new token id etc again but still i cant unlock it.
where am i going wrong?
Hi I had the same problem how I got over it is let the phone boot up enable USB debugging and disable fastboot in the power menu then completely power off the phone
Wait a minute then reboot once you get back to the home screen press power and restart holding volume down when you get to the bootloader screen it should now say unlocked once more

My phones screen seems to shut off and not wake up. I can tell the phone is on though because the buttons light up. And if I press and hold the back button the flashlight turns on. Also the volume rockers seemed to work but the screen stays off. Occasionally it seems to turn back on but but it'll just go back off again. Rebooting the phone doesn't working and I've also installed two different ROMs on it. Any advice on how to solve this?
Relock bootloader with fastboot oem lock cmd and download and run the ruu according to your phone version and see if the problem persists. If you don't know how to get into fast boot hold power and volume down until buttons stop flashing and keep holding volume down till you get See the screen with skating HTC men. Or if you have a backup in recovery you can restore from recovery and see if that helps your problem.

I was hoping I wasn't going to have to do that but I will if its my only option.
Kernel mods will do that also.

Haven't messed with any kernels. I was running the latest CM10 nightly when it happened. Figured it was the rom so I switched to the stable version but problems still happened.

No. No backups unfortunately.
My other suggestions would be to make sure you don't have a corrupt zip. Downloading from chrome or from you phone I've had issues. Ei8 or ie9 works well for me. Hope you get it figured out.

That was happening to my phone. I found that if i applied pressure to opposite corners at the same time, the screen would come back. If i let go, the screen would return to black. Everything worked when I touched the screen, volume rockers, etc. I took it into AT&T and they gave me a new one under warranty. I was running CleanRom 5.1 at the time. I honestly do not believe my problem was caused by over flashing or any type of hacking. SO, try to flex or contort the phone in different directions and see if you can cause it to turn on and off.
I ended up having to use RUU. The problem seems to be fixed. Still don't know what caused it but at least it wasn't a hardware issue.
A thanks would be nice

I appreciate you taking the time to help. And anyone for that matter but unfortunately the problem is still there. Might have to return it. Hopefully I won't get any issues from ATT for being rooted.
I was trying to root one of my One x's and got to the unlocked with x-factor, got the phone unlocked. Had an emergency and had to stop at that point. Now I can't boot back into bootloader. Can any one tell what I need to do to get back to the point where i was at so I can finish rooting. Thank you for any help that is given.
Where excactly in the process did you stop? Have you flashed recovery?

You can manually enter bootloader by holding volume down and power at the same time. When lights stop flashing, release power while continuing to hold volume down. It will go into bootloader.

I got to flash a recovery on the Hasoon2000's HTC One X All-in-One Kit, now when I try to boot up I get the HTC screen with red writing (warning about legal action) and then a black screen and when I plug in the USB and the PC says installing device drivers, it says device driver not successfully installed, that's as far as I can get. Tried to get into bootloader on the Hansoon app and the command prompt says device not found.

Yes it will say device not found because you're not in fastboot or booted into rom with USB debugging on. You need to manually boot to the bootloader.
If your phone is on. Press and hold power. The back home and app switch keys on the bottom of the phone will blink 5 times, the screen will go black. Let go of power and wait 2-3 seconds, then, BEFORE the screen turns back on, press and hold power and volume down until the bootloader comes on
If your phone is off just press and hold volume down and power until it boots into bootloader.
You may have trouble while your phone is plugged in so best to do this with it unplugged.
* On a side note, If you haven't read enough to know how to get into the bootloader you should REALLY not be messing around with your phone.
Ok.. I'm about to lose hope, please any creative ideas will be much appreciated..
I think i did a big mistake trying to update to the latest nightly release of CM 10.2 using the auto-update feature of cm 10.1...
The end result is a bootloop, gets up to the CM rotating animation for a few seconds and reboots.
on top of that:
unable to get into bootloader using pwr+vol up nor vol down
unable to access device using adb nor fastboot - shows no device connected
the PC does not recognize the device though there are drivers installed, the charging LED lights up but no PC activity
all of the solutions i've seen assume either the recover/bootloader is available or the phone is accessed via fastboot/adb.
in this case neither are correct....
for some time i wanted to upgrade to htc one but not yet....
please help
Press and hold power until the phone shuts off.
Then let go of power and press and hold volume down until bootloader comes up.

tried it again several time, but as I said it doesn't work.
I get a black screen (not the CM animation) and than reboot all over again.
You could try letting it drain completely. Then charge a bit and try again.
Is your phone plugged in while your trying? My phone will not enter bootloader while its plugged in.

You are mostly likely not performing the button combo correctly. If there were no bootloader (hboot), the screen would not be coming on at all. Not getting into bootloader is almost always a case of not doing the button combo correctly. The one possible exception, is if your volume rocker has failed (and simply not registering the vol down being pressed).
Make sure you hold vol down, and do not let go until the while bootloader screen comes up.
Recovery is a different story, as you can indeed not have recovery installed, and the phone will still function. But hboot and recovery are 2 different things.

I wish it was the case,
when i try to go into hboot the device instead of going into another boot until animation cycle, goes into black screen boot cycle. which means most likely that the action (PWR+Vol) does have an effect otherwise it would have continued to go into same boot cycle through the CM animation..
besides there is a recovery installed, or at least was...
is there anyway to re-install the hboot part without the hboot/fastboot availability?

If you are s-off, try running the RUU.
