I have the tablet asus transformer and a iphone 4.
I want send my sms from my tablet with my iphone 4. Is this
possible and how can I do
thank you
Ps : my english is so bad because i'm french

I think that is only possible with Android. Maybe Google Voice?

text plus in the market

I was trying to do the same with my iPhone. I thought of a few solutions and hopefully it will help you.
1. Using Google Voice - This is only a good choice for Americans as they are the only ones with the full version. I did not have the full version of Google Voice. The only way I can use Google Voice is if I set biteSMS to forward all my texts to a different number. If I wanted to reply, I would have to pick up my phone and text back. (Not to mention setting up Google Voice in Canada is a hassle...)
2. TreasonSMS - For anyone who is unfamiliar with this app, this app allows people to access their texts via a Web Interface. Unfortunately, I can only use this when I have WiFi. Tethering my tablet to my phone is not an option as my data allowance (100MB) is quite small and overage fees are high. (Remember, I have to use Data on my phone for other things too, this is not the only thing that would contribute to the data usage)
3. Using VNC - Again this option would require me to have access to the internet (unless someone knows a way to use it with an Ad-hoc like connection). Its also bit of work to setup if you don't usually use VNC.
4. Send texts from an app like textPlus - I don't really like this option because my friends would get confused trying to figure out which number to text. Also textPlus isn't officially available for tablets, you would have to get the apk from somewhere.
*edit: it appears that textPlus is available in the market now
5. Setting up Notify Pro - This is the option I'm currently using. Notify Pro sends my texts to my Transformer via Noifio (Growl is also available but I can't figure out how to set it up properly) and I can reply to the texts by pressing on the notification. Unfortunately, this options also requires the Internet (actually I believe you can only reply if your iPhone has access to wifi) but it's the easiest to setup.
6. Getting an Android phone - This is the only one out of my options that would work without access to the internet (TexTab). This option is considered as a last resort.

Unacceptable losses of SMS

Wondering whether I am the only one with this issue
I SMS a lot and like keeping the SMS on my device. I had recently an extremely unpleasant surprise: my total list of conversations was back to... ONE conversation with my last SMS and... That's it!!! Thousands of SMS gone
I happen to save everything with mIQ and hopefully it's not lost. However I had the experience already twice in the past 2 weeks so I am wondering:
Is this a feature from Android? Big SMS file --> autoarchive? If then how do I disable it or how do I recover my SMS?
Is it a bug? In which case this is extremely severe and not serious for such an expensive device or for an OS that is expected to be a safe one
Is it from Samsung implementation? Or Android itself?
Please share your experience, I'd like to know if I am the only one and if there is any solution (My "old" Touch Pro 2 with WM 6.5 never lost a single SMS although having more than 30,000 SMS in the box)
Sent from my GT-P1000 using XDA App
Am I the only one? Several years without any loss os SMS on different WM devices and I wiuld be the only one losing them on my shiny new device with the wonderful android OS?
Sent from my GT-P1000 using XDA App
Ive never let my SMS get to more than 500, mainly because I don't like scrolling through congressional. Never had this issue though.
Sent from my GT-P1000
you really shouldnt keep that many sms around anyhow with android, its likely to cause some issues but did you check the settings on the sms app? mine has settings to delete threads after a certain number and is set to 200 by default.
I use a program called Backup to Gmail. Works excellent.
It let's me delete sms'es on the phone while my Gmail account keeps them all even if I delete them on the phone.
It can also restore sms'es.MMS restore is not supported yet but backup works good.

Yes of course... Besides If I had it set at 200 I would expect to keep at leats 200, not 1
I shouldn't let many with Android ? So with WM6.5 it's ok to have 20,000 SMS but Android cannot handle them ? Hum... Somethng is seriously wrong

Thanks, I know a few of these. Without being able to restore --> kind of useless for me... Actually as far as I remember some CAN restore
I am already using mIQ that works ok (though a bit slow to handle too many SMS)
why would you even want that many, its not like you are going to read through 20k sms
It's funny like the answers are more about having less SMS or why wanting that many rather than why the SMS client or the OS Re broken...
Hey man why do u need a car, just take your bicycle!
I have more than a thousand conta ts I converse regularly with. Then add a certain number of sms per conversation and u get there
Anyway I do not even have that many on my Tab... Far less than on my previous device. And this disappointing device/os/client combination cannot even manage them... What do you expe t me to do or say? Go back to my TP2? Honestly this is ridiculous
meanwhile I'd like to know if I am the only one and if someone knows some fises (other than delet my SMS or but an iPad...)

give handcent a try and use their backup service, ive never had a problem with the stock sms app, currently theres around 300txts for 20 contacts, and 50 or so for the rest.
No problem here as I don't keep a lots of sms. But had a problem with new sms going into the wrong contact profile. So, have to be extra careful not to reply to the wrong person.
Anyone faces the same problem?

Deleting would help more than the purchase of an iPad, as that uses the 3g chip to get a data connection, while both the texting and voice service are ignored.
That said... I never got this issue, but my brother has a relatively similar one: long messages tend to be split, mixed and (why not, since we are at it) partly deleted. That is on Eclair using an Xperia X10 mini pro.
Never had this kind of issue when i was at my peak of sms usage: store on the MMC, and there you go, thousands of sms on a puny Nokia 3650.

[Q] Google Voice: Nobody's mentioned it, but I can't be the only one.

i.imgur.com/UAiIU.png
I am a heavy user of Google Voice, which I have on my Nexus One.
I cannot see GVoice on the Market from my Asus Transformer TF101.
When I browse to the Market from my desktop or mobile browser, it shows up of course, but says "this item is not compatible with your device" while referring to my Transformer.
Is this a honeycomb thing, or could it be an Asus thing?
I refuse to believe (unless you tell me that it is so) that Google would make Honeycomb somehow incompatible with the Google Voice app... That seems unimaginable to me.
While I have searched this forum thoroughly (I hope), I have not found any other mention of this issue, which makes me think that perhaps I am part of the problem... am I doing something wrong? Can anyone else confirm that GVoice is not available on the Transformer? Is anyone else as upset by this as I am?
(PS- I know I can browse to the voice webpage but that does not do push notifications. )
It's a google voice thing. It's dependent on telephony services, which the TF doesn't have. Google Voice team says they're working on it though, so expect something by the turn of the century.
Haha, oh how very lame! I do hope that they come out with something soon... I see no actual reasonwwhy Google Voice should not run on a wi-fi only tablet, right?
Thank you for the info!

All good, just trying to prevent duplicate threads on the same topic.. Anyways, GrooVe IP does work well, I use it on my phone so all my calls are minute-free. And, the Google Voice APK listed does work, but the main reason I mentioned searching is that on my thread I linked to the original Google Voice APK maker's thread where there are already newer versions than the one posted here. For your convenience, here is the most recent hacked version that should work on the TF: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=13545805&postcount=172
Thank you immensely for that; I have the new version now, and it's roxing my sox off.
Thanks!!

No need to use a paid app....
a) Sign up for a free SIP account at sip2sip.info
b) Sign up at ipkall.com to get a free US phone number to direct to your SIP account
c) Install sipdroid from the market and log into your sip2sip account
d) Install Google Voice. Add your ipkall number to your Google voice account.
e) You're done. Now you can make unlimited ingoing and outgoing calls for free.

No need to sign up for 4 different services just to make a phone call either . You prefer entirely free. I prefer a one time fee for ease of use.
I appreciate both options; thanks guys!
My only issues with GrooveIP is that you have to log out of google talk to receive calls, which disables remote app installs from the market. Also, it is forced to portrait with tiny buttons.

I did not notice such an issue. I just don't log in to google talk though - and I've been able to remote install apps. the portrait thing is annoying, but usable.
This version of Google Voice that is linked, it's a rather old version and it only refreshes the inbox every 5 minutes at the "quickest". I tried moving the google voice over from my Thunderbolt to my Transformer but it wouldn't install.
Does anyone have the "new" version of GVoice that uses background data to sync the inbox instead of having to wait 5 minutes for it to "catch up"?

Can XOOM 3G make Voice call like a mobile phone

Can any one advise this as its not listen in the 3G Specs..
By default no, but there has been talks about possibly getting it to work and a lot of people have success getting Line2 (https://market.android.com/details?id=com.toktumi.line2&feature=search_result) to work on it but requires you to even find the APK somewhere or download it on another android phone and copy the APK file off it.
I am looking for a core 2 Andriod 3.0 with at least a 7.1 or 10.1 screen...
Have to be able to make call.
Any recommendations..
I don't think you're going to find that anywhere.
Good luck with that, last I checked there were no tablets out there (at least in terms of Android 3.0+) that will allow you to make phone calls with them unless you use Skype (or mod it to allow making phone calls nativity.
I have heard that Samsung Galaxy Tab does allow you to make phone calls but I haven't tested myself and don't know if the newer Tab 10.1 (not sure if it's out yet or not) will support the phone features either since the Tab 10.1 will have 3.0.
I'm sure other members on this forums will step in to correct me if I'm wrong at anything I've said here but this is what I've saw so far.
I had some limited success with nettalk and my Google Talk phone number. Could connect with my home phone but my husband said it was very echo-y. I'm wifi only so it can be done. I'm going to try Line 2.
GrooVe IP works
i downloaded groove IP from the market tonite and it seems to work fine, it uses your Google voice number. No monthly fee like Line 2

you have to be logged out of Google talk on your xoom. Also, make sure that in your gv settings you have it set to google chat rather than your mobile number. Not sure if that made any sense, but they explain it step by step in the help section.
is that video calling or just voice?

Dang... I just remembered a long time ago I deleted the google chat from my registered phones list because I didn't think I would ever need to use it. So that would mean I would have to add it back, but... yeah. If I try to add another phone it gives me the name to choose and I need to set a number for it, and I have no idea what the number would be for google chat. Thanks for the quick responses though! I'll try and figure out what to do next. And I have 2 nice bluetooth headsets and they do work great!

The legacy Galaxy Tab does let you use a GSM sim card and allow one to make phone calls as well as access EDGE/3G data...i helped a friend set up his tab a couple of weeks ago and can confirm this....im located in Mumbai, India...and the versions available here do allow the ability to also use it as a phone..

i believe its the kernel that is stopping it from possible.
at the momenet, honeycomb is designed to be a tablet OS, hence it didn't include the Phone's feature in the system.
for galaxy tab, (the older one), it running on Gingerbread which a Phone OS, hence it can be easily enable the phone feature.
i believe we need to wait till Ice Cream where it unite Gingerbread and Honeycomb, so that it has the phone's feature in the system and can be enabled easily.
Hey All
Just thought I'd add to this old topic. I have an Australian 3G Xoom, on the American 3.1 update, with my settings pushed back for 3G etc.
Tonight I installed the UAString/SMS mod, so that I could send SMSes (which work perfectly with Handcent, over the Telstra 3G network - just like any mobile phone would do). Then I tried calling my tablet. This also worked perfectly! The call came up, it connected, etc. I answered and this is where we hit trouble. No sound. Either way. So the Xoom doesn't have a microphone/speaker set up for sound during a call. I even tried setting the Xoom on speaker phone, but still nothing.
Any ideas? Not sure if this has been posted about before, and I thought it was pretty exciting, to be making normal calls, and SMSes (there is all this talk about Google Voice, which is useless outside of the US) on the Xoom, and this was very exciting for me.

[APP] Viber (Beta) - Subscription-free VoIP App comes to Android!

It's about time! The iPhone has had this for ages. It's free, works on 3G, you don't even need to sign up to anything, automatically checks phonebook to see who has Viber installed, and you can call and send text messages over the interweb instead of using your cell providers minutes/text allowance. You can even tell your android to set it as your default dialer! It'll also work cross-platform so any people you know with iPhones, tell them about this (but I suspect they already know all about it).
It's in Beta so is not on the marketplace yet, but it's got millions of iPhone users so it's trust-worthy. Get it from here...
http://compixels.com/10130/how-to-download-install-viber-android-app-beta
Follow the instructions (you need to tell your phone to accept installs from outside the market first) and check it out!
What do you think?
Now available in marketplace!

I have the same problem, I think it's a bug in the app (also it's a pretty old version). I ended up buying SlashtopHD, it's optimized for tablets, works great with the keyboard dock and is on sale for $8. Discovery works great, even over 3G.:good:

password is missing again. I have the original splashtop app on my phone and
installed it on the tablet and it functions fine through internet discovery although not
nearly as tablet friendly as the stock version through MyCloud.
This feature is a main function for productivity with the tablet and if necessary I would
rather go back to 4.1 to retain this capability.

Small question: Why did you buy the general tablet version, and not the Tegra 3 optimised THD version specifically meant for the TF700?

Doh! I didn't realize there was a THD version. Just bought it and will kick the tires. Here are the results so far.
With my tf700 tethered to my EVO 4G I'm able to internet discover and connect to my work PC.
I'm unable to internet discover my home Mac. Think that might be an issue with my firewall. I'll look into it when I get home this evening.
Update: I think the issue was because my firewall is configured to do port forwarding to my Mac. You have to allow SplashtopTHD to discover the Mac while connected to your local network. Once it's found it the first time on the local network, internet discovery works after that.
So are we out of luck until Asus updates unless we buy Splashtop? Is there another way to locate your computer when you're off your own network? What version of Splashtop is bundled in MyCloud?

Afraid so. The version Asus bundled was customized and renamed it MyDesktop v1.1.0.14. Near as I can tell from Splashtop's support site this was a known bug in v1.1.0.14. :/
FWIW This was the last version that Splashtop released before they updated the app from Splashtop 1 to Splashtop 2. Until Asus uses the Splashtop 2 version remote access outside of your LAN wont be possible.

Actually, it's still possible - just not as easily. All that you need to do is setup Port Forwarding on your router. It's actually pretty simple.
Let me know if anyone is interested in setting this up - I'm sure I can find some good links and help a little...

The splashtop app has updated 3 times in the past week or so and still it doesn't work
Man you guys must either be young and have good eyes or porting the video out HDMI to a big screen TV or external monitor. I tried Splashtop a few times and it worked great but I couldn't see a thing on my desktop screen (high res, lots of icons) and discovered I could zoom and pan (desktop or launched app) the virtual desktop but it felt clumsy and dangerous since I often lost my mouse cursor. In app it felt dangerous like I could easily delete something. Functionally though it was an impressive remote desktop over wifi. Tried it over 3G and the latency was unbarable (and they state it will not work this way but I tried anyway just to check it out - they were right.)
I went out and checked yesterday and got an available update from ASUS that fixed this problem.

What "update" are you referring to? The latest OTA update?
Thanks.
