First off id like to say, yes im a noob and yes i researched this. Looked for a good 30 minutes with no luck so I figured id go right for the source and start something new. If im just an idiot who hasn't looked hard enough, point me in the right direction and ill gladly fallow
Ok, so heres my story....
I decided to try and root my Inspire with the mind set of gaining access to Netflix by changing the Manufacturer and model code in the rom, but I never really got that far. I used This program and fallowed the video tutorial to the best of my abilities. I did back up my phone using Wondershare Mobilego, but could only grab contacts, messages and apps. I also copied the entire contents of my SD card into a separate folder before I started the format. Everything was going smooth, I got to the boot menu on the phone, and unpacked/updated the PD98IMG.zip file. I did the reboot and opened the rom editor included, went through the process and it said it was gonna crash but it never did. I waited and waited and it never happend. I pressed the home button and tried to open it again, worked fine. It said it was gonna crash again, never did. At this point I was getting a little mad. Im almost sure I entered everything right. I rebooted the phone and it came up with the boot manager, but guess what It freezes. So I just turned off the phone and booted back up again. It works fine other than the fact that it thinks its a Desire HD and everything went all British on me. Im guessing its stuck on the downgrade. The real problem is that any and all speakers do not work. When people call I cant hear a thing. The rear speaker doesn't work either. The headphone jack doesn't even work! WTF?! Got any suggestions on what to do?
Thanks,
Adam
If you can get into recovery just flash an inspire rom. Or find the stock rooted one that attn1 did. It flashes through hboot and also flashes the newest ATT ota radio.

+1. It also does a full wipe. It should fix you up and you should be good to go to flash a custom rom if you so choose. Just look in the dev forum for attn1's Ace_Cingular_US rom. Be sure to get the one with sideloading enabled.

Sounds like you are stuck with a bad radio combo. Do as suggested above and you, should be fine. Worst case is set aside about an hour and start from stock, then use Ace Hack Kit (just the one I used, not sure about the others) just follow the manual and you will be fine.

I had to do everything twice with the hack kit. Every step. It was rather harried but I think I had similar issues, and I just tried it all again and it worked the second time. The issue does sound recoverable.

Ok.... so, I done gone and did it. I think I managed to brick my gtab. Which is odd, because it was working one minute, then said "shove off" the next.
I was running the VEGAn-Tab Gingerbread Alpha and couldn't stand the lack of hardware acceleration anymore. Choppy video, games, and such. So, I decided to jump back to 5.1. I flashed the .8 recovery again and was able to get it installed zero issue. I was even running 5.1 for a good day or two. I was in the middle of redoing the Angry Birds levels since the backup data from GB wasn't playing nice for just that one app.. I noticed there was no sound after a bit, thought another app might have been holding priority over the audio, so I went to reboot. Shuts down, when it should reboot, the screen just stays black. The screen is definitely on, just blank.
The power button shuts it off after a second or two of holding it, so it's still functioning from some form of data to know to do that... I figured nvflash might work, but I can't figure out how to get it going without my computer picking up on a USB device.
Have I just screwed myself here, somehow? any ideas?

Sounds like a brick to me, same thing happened to me.
Luckily for you the gtab is virtually unbrickable.
Follow the method from the following thread to get your gtab back to stock.

Yep, Semibricked.
Happened to me 2 days ago. See the last post from me, pazzu510 and you´ll see some images from the process. XD It makes it so easy to have ubuntu specially linux mint(i dont know if the "run in terminal" works in other distros and in which).
Good luck and dont get too worried. Not even data get lost(just some apps).

wait... there are actually running versions of Ubuntu on this thing? I've been hoping for that since I decided on this thing over the Adam. lol I've only seen a few posts around for Karmic.
I'll give the methods mentioned a try and report back. I'm glad this is fixable. My only experience with this stuff is with my Droid and old iPod Touch(which I semi-bricked quite a few times with all of my tinkering. lol)
edit: Wait.. sorry.. I just realized you meant on a normal computer. lol My brain kinda jumped the gun there, for a second. lol
Ok... So, I had no choice but to do the nvflash from linux because windows 7 decided it didn't want to play nice with the drivers. I've been meaning to dual-boot Ubuntu anyway, so it pushed me into doing that now instead of procrastinating. lol
I did the nvflash without any issues, got back into android. It reinstalled TnT, but whatever.
Enter issue number two... It works "fine"(about as good as the stock TnT, pre-updates could.. lol). I go to reboot, screen doesn't come on at all. Not even the on but blank. Not even the back light this time. nvflash cures it, but if I ever turn it off, it does the exact same thing. I was hoping to switch back to VEGAn 5.1.1 or at least get the stock TnT updated. I can't reboot for the update or the same thing happens. Which also leaves out hope for getting into recovery to format.
I went from ... lol
Its rebooting into apx mode. Exact same thing Happened to me a month back. You need to make sure you are using the correct nvflash files. Which ones are u using?

I was using the files in the zip with the later date in bekit's dropbox. I figured they were just updated files. I'll give the other one a try and see how that goes.
yup. That was it. I used the other set of files and it's working fine now. Thanks for catching that. I probably would have went a few more days before trying that. lol

Hey wonderful community!
I am having some serious problems with my GPS. Everything was good until I flashed Android Revolution 3.2 from Android Revo 1.6. Luckily I had a backup so I flashed back to that through clockwork and all was well for a while. Then I got curious about LeeDroid so I flashed that and seemed good but the other night, after confirming a GPS lock the first night I flashed it, couldn't get a signal. I haven't flashed anything since my GPS was working but I still thought it had to be software related. So I flashed my backup expecting it to work just like it did before, but I got nothing. I get AGPS but no actual sats. Even if I leave GPS test open for an hour it never even sees even one satelite, let alone using any. This is on the same rom, same kernel, **** the same backup. So I flashed a few roms, and even did a full factory reset and have had no luck. I searched a couple threads looking for solutions but everything I have tried has not helped at all. Just so you know what I have tried that hasn't worked is as follows: the GPS.zip file thread extracted and pasted into system/xx/xx/hw, reinstalling locations, clearing map data, and installing faster fix.
I know this was a lot to read but I try to help anyone as much as I can and would really appreciate some help on this. LETS PAY IT FORWARD PEOPLE LOL.
Thanks in Advance.
EDIT: Ok so still don't know what the culprit was but with a lot of help from Kirk I redid step 5 from the Hack Kit, which flashes the stock radio, and WOOT WOOT! GPS back to it's mean self.
You need to re-flash the radio. You can flash it using HBOOT.
Try stock rooted and faster fix from the market.

Can you explain a little better? like step by step, I am kinda new to HTC and haven't even messed with radios at all. I am still on the radio from the hack kit. Should I just download it and then how do I flash using Hboot?

1. Download this file http://www.megaupload.com/?d=BX5GV1CJ
2. Place the PD98IMG.zip radio file on the root of your SD card.
3. Power the phone off, remove and reinsert the battery.
4. Hold the volume button down and press power on.
5. The phone will boot into Hboot then Bootloader, It should see the PD98IMG.zip and ask if you want to apply the zip.
6. Use the volume up button to select "yes"
7. Once its done flashing, reboot the phone and you should have flashed the radio.
8. Finally, turn on GPS and run google maps and you should see the GPS icon start to flash.

Same issue as laxwillsch...
I am running 3.3 as of 2 hours ago - only issue was GPS. Performance is phenomenal on 3.3. I ran through your instructions. In step 6, mine quickly flashed up the screen that says it couldn't find any files to update, then returned to the HBOOT screen. There was nothing apparently for me to do, so I simply rebooted the device.
Guess what? GPS now works. I am certain the update didn't happen but something did! When I launched Google Maps, I immediately saw the satellite icon. I haven't seen that in awhile... Not waiting on Google Maps, I launched Compass (I like that app) and it locked 7 satellites in a fraction of a second. I returned to Google Maps and it works flawlessly.
My Radio version is 12.39.60.19U_26.06.04.06_M.
My speed test performance floats between 3.8 - 2.1 Mbps down and 1656 - 1200 Mbps up...
Thanks again!

Ok did it and it didnt find a radio to flash. I think this is because it is supposed to be renamed to PD98IMG.zip but I could be wrong. I will try that but I don't know if this will help because I actually already get the flashing GPS indicator it just fails to see any sats. Like absolutely none. Even if I keep GPS test up for an hour. It doesn't do anything. I dont understand this because I don't see anyone with the same problem. I think I am just going to exchange it tomorrow because I have a feeling something happened hardware wise because I didn't even flash anything to make this happen. The GPS worked one day and the next it didnt. And I didnt change anything, no themes, no roms, no nothing.

You need to rename the file as stated in my previous reply. Try that before you give up.
If you decide to exchange the phone, make sure you are within the 30 days when you bought it, and also s-off needs to be s-on and then install the stock ROM that came with the phone. Otherwise they will see you tinkered with the phone and altering your phone like that voids the warranty.
EDIT: Are you outside when you are looking for a GPS signal? The phone needs to be outdoors to grab a GPS signal. From what you said about leaving it on for an hour to look for GPS signal, sounds like you are indoors cause I wouldn't wanna stay outside for an hour in cold weather just to look for a GPS signal.

I tried it the way you posted with no avail. Then I just renamed it PD98IMG.zip and it updated this time but still no change. And yes I have been outside and on my deck, both places where I got perfect GPS signal a couple days ago. I really think it is something weird, because I have done everything I could think of software related with no change. I have probably flashed 5-6 roms and it is the same with all of them. I got excited when you suggested the radio but after it not changing anything I got to thinking that I never flashed a radio, I don't even have ENG-S-OFF so it wouldnt really make sense that it is radio related. I am open to more suggestions but I have tried everything I have learned about android in the last year with no avail. My next step is flashing the stock RUU and seeing if that fixes it and if not just taking it back to radio shack. I am over my 30 days but they said they can replace after 30 if the device is defective and I have a screen issue where if I press lightly on the search button it makes a clicking noise and plurs the corner of the LCD. Plus I am getting AGPS but literally my actual GPS is like totally borked. Not seeing any satelites at all, before even inside I would see like 7-9. Something is seriously wrong and I don't even know where to start.

That would be my next suggestion, to flash the stock untouched ROM. Hopefully that makes it work and then you can go from there. Either way, you need to install the stock ROM before you return it.
Also, did the phone show the update completed successfully or did it give an error?

Ya thanks. I can't promise anything though, I will probably be flashing something new tomorrow! Plus I still am a little confused as to why this happened. The last thing I flashed was LeeDroid 2.2.2 and I coulda swore that the GPS got a lock after I flashed because that is one of the first things I always check because it is something I use everyday, but I could be wrong. Anyway thanks for the help again.

No problem, anytime!
I've experienced the same thing also when flashing different ROMs. I finally followed the same instructions you followed and works every time for me and for a few others.
A new thread just popped up in the Inspire 4G General section with someone that has the same problem you had.
I'm completely lost. I have tried everything I have found on the forums and nothing had restored my GPS. I've flashed fixes, flashed new radios, new roms, formatted everything and started over with a brand new rom install. Can somebody please help me.

Have you tried using Hboot to flash the radio? Follow the instructions on post 5 in this thread. Might work for you.
I have s-off, rooted, was using insertcoin...Just thought I'd install the Revolution ROM. Did the wipe and then installed ROM. EVerything seem to be fine and it rebooted. Then I reinstalled apps through titanium backup.
When I was using the phone to call...after a minute or so...it started to make this long tone sound and everything freezes. It seem to reboot...and back to working again. I thought it was due to some apps still being reinstalled?
In any case, when I made call again...again after a minute or so..it started making that same tone....and it turned off.
Now, it won't respond at all. I tried pulling out battery...no matter what I do...the phone will not turn on.
please help! Is this bricked? I pretty much followed all the steps. I selected stock kernel instead of custom when prompted.

Try to boot with adb.
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using xda premium
Hi...I am trying to install the new SDK package...but I do have the older ADB and when I tried it..it first says ADB sever out of date...then started daemon...and attached list showed nothing?
When I plug the phone in...there's no response from the PC..it won't beep or show anything connected on USB!
I just tried to run adb after installing the latest sdk package. Running adb from the platform-tool directory...the device listed is empty....doesn't seem to be recognizing the phone!
Any other ideas? Is this completely bricked?
I wouldn't call it a brick per se, but this has happened to more Sensations than you may realize. Most people who've reported said they went to bed (phone on or off the charger) and when they wake up, it just won't turn on.
Honestly, I believe it's a random catastrophic hardware issue. I think some Sensations are faulty and have a lower temperature threshold or something, not sure, but what you described seems hardware related.
Edit: Just reread about that tone. A long tone? Although you were on a phone call so it's no guarantee, something like a long speaker tone or a screen spazzing out (I work in electronics) tend to mean something hardware related. Again, not 100% solid, but that's how it usually turns out.
Also, don't believe this happened because you flashed a different rom or something, there is just no way flashing a rom would kill a phone. If that were true, normal software updates or factory resetting could cause the same thing, and they simply don't.
Yes..it could be hardware related? The thing is, if it's bricked...I would think this wouldn't boot into the new ROM at all.. mine booted to the new ROM and I was able to restore all the apps...but all of a sudden while on the phone...I heard this long tone from the phone....then it just turned off.
The problem is, since this is rooted...doesn't it void waranty? Also, I am in Canada using a t-mobile phone I bought from the States...so I can't really bring it back to fix?
Wonder if I could get HTC to fix it?
It basically just died...battery was 100% when I was updating.
Any suggestion of what I should do?

take off the battery, SD card, SIM card and then put them back again.....try to press power+volume down (even power+volume up & down, all buttons) to see if you can log into the recovery...I don't know if this works but since your phone is almost dead, you won't lose anything to try any method...Do you think so?
If anything you have tried does not enable the phone to work normally again, please try to turn to some body who can check and repair the hardware of your phone for help...It could take a long time to send it back to HTC.....
Hope everything is going well with you.
Nothing works..I've tried taking out Battery..talked with HTC and they tried that with me too...but basically the phone is completely unresponsive. I am just wondering if it's a problem with the ROM or if it's a hardware thing. It seems strange it booted up ok and then had this long beep/tone thing.
There seem to be one other person posted in Q&A experiencing exactly the same thing...he was using revolution 6.6.3 and also had that sound and now it won't turn on!
I have talked to HTC and got a repair ticket...not sure if anyone locally can fix it...just wonder if HTC will have problems with it being rooted and all.
He was running ARHD 6.6.3?! I just downloaded it, now I'm weary to flash O.O

can you try one thing?
Remove battery ,sdcard, then connect the phone to power outlet using usb then try to power on the phone.?
If it doesn't turn on then remove the back shell too and try to power it on again?

Thanks for the suggestion. But again nothing happened. I've tried taking out SD, SIM, battery...with or without cover. Nothing turns the phone on...also no light when charging. It's like the phone is just dead?
There's one other post by someone on the forum that says his phone doesn't turn on..and it seem to happen the exact same way. He said he was running 6.6.3 and then all of a sudden a long beep/tone...then stuck..so turned it off and won't turn on again. Haven't seen any update / resolution there neither!
I am still not sure if it's a ROM problem or if it's a hardware problem. The thing is, the ROM did get installed and was rebooted...in fact, I used Titanium to reinstalled all the apps...unless restoring some data for things like bluetooth settings, desktop etc..causes it...which was fine when I restored it for InsertCoin...I don't understand how a ROM could cause a phone not to turn on at all?
I guess unless there are other ways to fix this..looks like it's sending back to HTC...hopefully they can't fix it neither and just send a different phone since if they turn it on and notice I have it rooted and S-On..they might just blame it on that!
Hi there, I hope you guys can help me out on this.
I just got my HOS a few days ago and it was all good.
Rooted it after 1 day, everything was fine.. at first.
Played a few games, installed themes and so on. After a few hours, my HOS began to vibrate out of nowhere and apps started here and there, menu opens on its own and all that stuff. It was out of control xD
I then saw that theres an update available. Flashed stock recovery and unrooted it. Afterwards, I installed 1.78. Still unrooted, downloading most of my Apps again, works flawless. Gaming(specially Temple Run xD) is smooth.
Yesterday, I decided to root it again. At first no problems at all.
Just now on the train, playing Temple Run again, my HOS started going crazy, vibrating all the time as if it is pressing buttons on its own and I see the phone doing all kinda stuff(opening new apps, browsing thru home screen etc xD).
Has anyone else expierenced something similar? I have no idea where its coming from and it really annoys the hell out of me.
Right now I'm on TrickDroid v3.1 (wiped system/data/dalvik/cache before flashing)
Kernel: 3.0.8-01136-g9d2ad32
Baseband: 0.16.31501S.17_2_10.23.31501S.10L
Build: 1.70.666.1 CL52668
That really is strange !!! Its as if root contains some sort of poltergeist
I would have imagined a factory reset would have cleared it up, But in your case it didnt....
Have you tried an alternative rooting method ?
Nope, I did not. Always used the All-In-One Toolkit, except for when I flashed Trickdroid, since it comes rooted.
Is it ok if I unroot the HOS with Rootkeeper(is this just temp. unroot?) and then root it again with Superboot?
Unbranded HOS bought in Germany, if that matters. Also, no other recovery works for me except Intermin, CWM just won't boot for me.
that is weird...
Unlocking the bootloader was successful right ?
I dont understand why your phone is rejecting software lol.. Oh and I didnt know root keeper can unroot ive never used it..
how i got root was by flashing paul obriens recovery and then the root package zip file.. I did this on day one and have never had any issues at all.. Ive tested every single ROM and every single recovery lol..
Make a nandroid in recovery and just test out different methods and try get this issue fixed. If you have any issues just restore the nandroid..
Check your phone for remote access apps, maybe you got hacked. Most of those require root to function. Also check your google account for which IPs logged in and check the password recovery options for weird emailadresses and phonenumbers...
Ars has a writeup on hardening your android device, not very technical but some good stuff there. http://arstechnica.com/security/201...-smartphone-against-stalkers-android-edition/
Forget whatever i wrote.
My HOS registers my thumb, even tho I'm not touching it at all. If I'm like 5mm away from the screen, it registers it as if I'd touched it. My gf also has a HOS and it acts only if I touch the screen.
I also noticed that the hotter my HOS gets, the distance increases at which it recognized my "touch".
The distant screen touch has happened on my uprooted tmo us HOS. I've also experienced some craziness out of the device. I've kept it stock, no unrooting/rooting going on.
I was thinking an exchange with HTC cause I also have excessive battery drain and wavy lines in the screen but now I also have an awesome cracked screen too :-\
Sent from my HTC VLE_U using XDA
i also dont need to touch my screen to select something
I just hover my finger over the app, real close to the screen and it selects it...
I guess we have special powers
i also dont need to touch my screen to select something

I cant be arsed with the fan mail from the CIA,,, Nor do i have the time to fight crime and save the world....
Id rather just continue to flash a ROM.
Okay, So ive been banging my head against the wall for 2 days straight now with this problem so ive finally come to post about it to see if anybody has ANY idea how i can fix this. I have searched high and low for anyone who has come across this problem and i cant find another poor soul stuck in this predicament.
I have the D850, and have had it since last July. It was Bumped the day that it came out and ive been happily running roms on it since. I have honestly probably tried every ROM that was ever released for this phone, never had any issues.
I had flashed back to stock maybe a few weeks ago bc i had never done so, and after flashing a million roms i figured id try out straight stock for the first time in a year. SO i flashed the kitkat stock rom, and booted up everything was fine, then there was maybe 2 updates that i did OTA. I knew lollipop was out so i updated to that and all was well. I eventually got weary of straight stock quickly so i rooted and installed some of the fun stuff. Now this is where i noticed something i hadn't had before- when i would boot into TWRP i would get an unsecured boot error: error 1300- or at least i think that's what it said...Everything would flash fine and boot up so i didn't think much of it, but now that im having the issues im having, i think this is where it stems from.
Fast forward to 2 days ago- i figured i would flash back to 100% stock because i will be receiving my 6P next week and was going to donate this phone to my aunt bc i have taken such good care of it i figured id hand it down to a needy relative instead of get $20 bucks for it on ebay- All goes well i get the Blue screen with the 3 on it, pull battery and reboot. Everything seems normal..att logo...welcome screen..i go to touch the screen and its frozen. then reboots. weird. it does this a few more times, sometimes staying alive for up to 3 mins before freezing and rebooting again. Sometimes it even screams at me- no joke- it will freeze and make a high pitch screeching noise then shut down. scared the Sh*t out of me the first time it did it.
Ive tried everything people...i have downloaded fresh tot files/tried 5 different computers/fresh installs of flashtool/LG PC suit/hard reset/ran in safe mode/changed flash settings form upgrade to Board- to no avail. I honestly don't know how the phone hasn't died yet bc i think ive flashed the thing 30 times in the last 2 days from various computers. Remember- every time i flash in flash tool it passes, its only when it boots back up that it freezes/screams/reboots.
Sorry for the long winded post, but i wanted to give you some context. I'm going to try and mess around with it some more today but i keep getting closer and closer to throwing it off the wall bc this is frustrating. I think my problems would be solved if there was a lollipop tot file to flash, but i looked around and couldn't find anything. Thanks for reading everyone, any ideas are welcome. I'm out of warranty so ill try ANYTHING to fix this. At this point even if i FUBAR it i don't gaf bc its broken right now anyways. Any ideas are welcome. Thanks guys and i hope this never happens to you

If it's making noise and freezing after flashing, that sounds like an hardware issue. Since you've already tried reflashing it several times and it still does it nothing else can really be done. You can try selecting board_id in flash tool at the tot selection screen and try that.
Also I always gotten secure boot error when booting into twrp on my LG phones I've rooted and loaded twrp on them.

Yea man i tried that and it it boots into a screen that says DO NOT TOUCH SCREEN and then just continues to boot to that and i get a fail on the flash tool . thanks for your tutorial btw, thats what i used for all this troubleshooting. i found a thread about actually taking the phone apart and shorting it out and then trying to flash. i am going to give that a try if i cant get this f0cker to boot up correctly.
wait- did you mean select board DL?

When it continues to boot what happens? Flash tool is supposed to fail.. Once the phone is out of download mode flash tool will fail as its done and has no connection. Once flash tool hits 80/85% its done. Never heard of the LG phone and taking it apart to short it out. That would be something if you had a brick and the phone doesnt go into download mode.

Strange. But yeah once phone reboots it's done. Flash tool percent means nothing. But very strange.
