How to change video recording format? I have only 3gp. Is there any way to change it on mp4??
not with the stock app at least...look around the market or the themes and apps thread for different cam apps

Those are all great ideas and im not sure why nobody has seemed to try to make an app for recording in mp4..
Our phones DO record in .MP4 format already. 3GP is just a file container. If you would really like to change the format from .3gp to .MP4 you can most likely do it with perm-root/ S Off and / or possibly with another camera app.
Don't get too worked up though because you are already recording in .MP4.

Search for Vidcon on play store. It's the best so far. It can resize your video to mms size in .3gp format. The paid version has ability to manually pick your output video size and format.

Hey everyone, got my Inspire 4g yesterday and love it. However, whenever I record video it is only in the 3gp format. Is there an option I am missing to have it record in a h.264 format? Any help would be great.

Find an app that supports recording in another format. There are a few apps that will record and save in different formats. Mind you the stock video player doesnt play all formats
I just noticed this. Normally, the G2X records in .3gp format...and it's awful. I was just testing the OpenWatch Recorder app (I can't link, but you can search) and I checked out the video file. It wasn't recorded in .3gp format. It was an .mp4 file! It looked significantly better.
Is there any way to get the camera app to record in .mp4 instead of .3gp?
I'm running on the 2.2 froyo that it came with.

Not that right section to post this but to answer your question, not that I'm aware of. I believe the only device that allows mp4 out of the box is the SGS2. A mod might be doable but that's above my pay grade.

Curious about this as well. My G2 with CM7 on it didn't record in 3gp.
I haven't tried CM7 yet and I do realize the build may be different for the G2 and G2X. Can anybody who is running it confirm if video is still recorded in .3gp on the G2X running CM7?

I once used ICS ROMs but the camera and camcorder have very big issues in my phone and in Sense 3.0 ROMs there are not that big problems

My actual problem is that whenever I record videos, I cant play them I dont know why and when I see the details of the video, the file size is around normal but the length of the video is 0:00

Erm, there might be a setting in the Camcorder app to change the file to 3GP.
If not, download an Camcorder app from the Play Store that does record in 3GP and see what happens.
My first thread, hopefully in the right area of this amaz forum.
I've been testing various ICS roms on my P500, but all of them share the well-known issue of missing preview thumbnails and playing mp4 videos in gallery apk (so you have to download MX Player and so on)..
As workaround, I though to edit the /etc/media_profiles.xml to try to force the camcorder to record vids in 3gp, yet, no luck in doing this, I am sure I am missing something, because it keeps recording mp4 instead of 3gp.
Any hint? Thank you.

Have you tried lg camera?It has an option to record in 3gp, but I haven't tested it in ics
