I just got a Sensation from Telstra in Australia...
Great phone, but as usual, heaps of their bloatware on there.
One thing I know Gingerbread does, which I had on my custom rom for the HTC Desire, was the power on/off "tv style" screen collapse effect.
Does anyone have this on the Sensation ? Not sure if it should be there and telstra stuffed it up, or HTC has removed it.
Anyway to get it to happen before the phone is rooted?
Warmly, Marty
Nope... I don't have it on mine (Swiss Carrier). I like that effect but seems like it has been removed by HTC. Correct me if I'm wrong

I just sent a tech support email to HTC to ask where the setting is to turn this on...(ie: It's a feature of Gingerbread, HTC Sensation runs Gingerbread so how do I do it?....) if everyone else does the same...
Marty
PS. and this is WHY they should not lock the bloody bootloader - I would just put on a custom sense3 rom that had it added back...

I have actually taken the framework-res.apk and decompiled it or whatever with apk manager and I have added the necessary fix, but this being my first time messing with that, it failed couldn't get it to build again :/ I read that it was an issue with sense, blur and so on Roms but I tried :/ maybe someone more talented than I can do it

Adusting the framework.apk - that would not work until you have s-off or root anyway would it?
They removed the affect that you get when you reach the bottom of a menu. Not sure why they did that.
We have temp root already which let's us change the system files until next reboot. So I was thinking it might work, don't know until I'd be able to finish compiling that thing :/
Idk I'm just a noob when it comes to that lol

AOSP Style Contacts/Dialer APK
I have a simple request. I will be purchasing the HTC Sensation 4G in a few days and we all know that for the most part root isn't available. As a result, I will be forced to use HTC Sense 3.0 until root is established and Custom Roms become available. I will probably use ADW EX as my launcher, but I will be stuck with the HTC Sense Dialer/Contacts. Is there any brave soul out there that can create a dialer/Contact apk that is the same as the AOSP version that can be installed without root? There are a few mods/fixes out there that require root to move the dialer.apk to the main system folder etc but obviously since the Sensation doesn't have root yet I will not be able to use those. I ABSOLUTELY HATE THE STOCK HTC DIALER & CONTACTS APPS... I am willing to donate to the person that figures this out....also I'm sure I am not the only person interested in this so uploading the apk to the android market could prove profitable for you also? Here are some examples:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=539752
AND
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=871787&highlight=contacts+aosp
Remember it has to be installed "Unknown Sources" style or a market link etc....
I am as well! I absolutely hate the HTC Dialer/Contacts. I urge manufacturers to stop messing with the GOOD AOSP apps!
I agree.... I hate the HTC dialer.

Guys, look at my very soon to be released ROM...NoClutterSense...the dialer and lots of other HTC apps have been replaced with the AOSP counterparts. My ROM thread is here.
I have used RocketDial on my phones in the past and love it.
There is a free version but, support the Dev and get the full version
you won't be sorry.

Just installed this & like it a lot- but is there a way to disable the stock caller ID screen? It pops up & the RocketDial's pops up & I have to hit answer on both before the call connects.
i too would love a stock/aosp dialer for the sensation.
Now Fixed, just have to re-size & it's working fine on the Sensation I love me some Stock Dialer. http://twitpic.com/648vs4
Still working on it, but it wont be installable via apk install nor market & so on...
The version I'm working on has to be a full replacement app..

I think someone in another thread said a hard reset fixed it for him. I think, when I get my phone, the first thing I will do is give it a hard reset. Then, if I have problems, I'll know a hard reset won't fix it since I already did one.
Nah, I haven't had any and my Sensation is going on 3 days straight without a reboot or using a task killer app. It's still running smooth with over 250 mb of free memory.

I was having Sense FC issues like every 5 minutes, it all started when I changed "Scenes". I did a factory reset and a battery pull and I haven't had a FC in 24 hours. I also haven't changed "Scenes" yet either. I think I like the previous version of Sense more than 3.0, but I am not complaining not even a little bit. I love this friggin phone!
been having this issue also, i disabled the sync and it hasnt happened since.
I've been having a ton of Sense FCs, might have to do the hardreset.... no biggie I guess as long as it fixes it.
*Sensation is one I find it most beneficial devices about a month after release. If you have other devices that use lines of previous HTC devices or reading about it on the xda, but that device error more than Sensation.
*Sensation errors on mainly by the software (ROM). Sensation's hardware have to say is excellent. I think the errors of Sensation after being unlocked bootloader will be fixed (Rom, Kernel, Driver ....)
nice. thanks for the input everyone.
so where are we on this?
What are the conclusions?:
1:Hard reset ... I'd like it to be my last resort. But did it work for you guys?
2:someone on another thread recommended changing from Sense to adw
3: anything else?
I iniataly thought sense was dropped from memory, but I saw in parameters somewhere that it runs in protected area so ca be the culprit at least alone.
There's got to be a better answer!
I'm quiet positive that it has to do with badly written widget or app.
Now how could we approach this?:
could we list all our linked apps??
Any better idea??
This has to be fixed!
I have the same problem with mine.
Sense looks the part but the white screen with logo + loading annoyes me too...
Did you get the problem solved one way or another?
It is, in my opinion, the only downside on my Sensation XE

Are you on ICS, if so move all your apps to phone memory sense will force close.
At this point my phone is on standard software as delivered by HTC. Should I move all added programs to internal memory or move as much as possible to memory-card ? Thanks in advance for your answer.

I need info about your sense version and android version. If it is v3.6 and ICS then you must move all apps to internal memory.
It is on Android 2.3.4 and HTC Sense 3.0.
Are there newer versions available? Auto updates is "on" in setup so i would think phone should update itself ? Greetz and thanks for your aswer.

With too many apps open it happens again. Must be a memory and closing sense-problem. Is there no possibility to select programs like Sense and 3g-watchdog to remain allways open? Movings apps back to internal memory seems not possible with the software I've got....

Hi all
I know other people have posted similar threads, but not with (somewhat obviously) the same personal requirements. Here's what I'm looking for:
1) A ROM compatible with the O2 UK network.. yes, I know it pretty much should be anyway, but I've used an O2 ROM on my Desire S in the past and the voicemail speeddial was set to the Spanish number. It's unlikely to be an issue assuming I can set the speeddial assigned to 1 on the keypad - but still.. My voicemail number is 901.
2) No custom screens - ie. I don't want it to be apparent that the phone is running a custom ROM, so no personalised loadup screens (although I'm possibly open to different icons assuming I can see what they look like before I install the ROM).
3) Bloatware removed. I don't even have any intention of using Facebook or Twitter.
4) General speed improvements alongside greater stability, if possible.
5) Optimum battery life! At the moment, I get three days at a stretch out of my Sensation with no background data and light to medium useage. I conditioned the battery to get this and am fairly happy with it, but would like a very comfortable three days if possible. I think I easily got this before I installed the latest official software update and now no longer do.
Is that all hoping for too much? Thanks for your help in advance.

Hey guys just wanted to show you some screenshots of the famous CyanogenMod. I am running version 7.1.0. I haven't had any real problems with the ROM yet and i have been running it for about a month. Only thing i have really noticed is that it won't vibrate when i get a text message... even when its on vibrate. Another thing that bugs me is that you do not have the option to set a Live Wallpaper... but you get over it. The kernel i am using is the stock kernel with this ROM... I am wanting to flash a 1.5GHZ kernel, but i never seem to have that much luck flashing kernels and always get stuck at the boot screen. This ROM is plenty fast enough and very smooth on the stock kernel. I also get amazing battery life. Check out the thumbnails below.

Just saw you had troubles getting your phone to boot after a kernel flash. Do you wipe cache and dalvik before you reboot ? If not, that might be the reason it gets stuck in a loopboot.

Thought I'd share a little trick I found in the HTC Rezound forum... turns out you can easily peel off the Sense-style lock screen and leave your One X with clean-looking stock ICS lock. You simply need to rename /system/app/HtcLockScreen.apk to something else, reboot, and voila, Sense doesn't skin it. I renamed it using adb shell.
It doesn't work perfectly however... I've already found a couple bugs where incoming calls don't show up on the screen (only in the status bar), and if you use something like Google Music that is supposed to add controls to the lock screen, only a black background is shown. I'm sure these functions are supposed to be handled by the Sense Lock UI which is no longer there. Maybe somebody smarter than me can figure out how to fix, or maybe this is just a useless crippled hack.

I doubt it, most of HTC's other apps are complete replacements of stock, whereas the Sense lockscreen is really just a skin sitting on top of ICS.
So it makes sense why incoming calls, texts, etc. using HTC's stock apps don't show up on the ICS lockscreen (they want to be handled by HTC's skin)....but I'm not sure why Google Music won't show controls since it isn't an HTC app. Curious!
Nice tip! Thanks for the info!
