Hi all. I have recently realized that my di overheard a alot, so I downloaded battery report apk from the Droid x. I highly recommend this if your phone overheats. You can either download it from the Droid x system dump or from here when I get a link
Sent from my Incredible using XDA App
Interesting, do you know what the SPECIFIC function of this apk is? Of course it labels itself as cooldown mode, but what is it doing that is causing the battery to cool? Throttle the cpu? Throttle the radio??
dont know exactly what it does, but my phone isnt that hot after long usage. yeah, it does get a littoe hot, but does not overheat
Sent from my Incredible using XDA App
I will test this on my scalding hot moto Droid and report back.
ok. i know it works on the di.
Sent from my Incredible using XDA App
Yeah report your findings.. I would like to use this too if it actually does work! Mine gets super hot now that I have CM6 on it!
I am uninstalling. I would advise anyone who downloaded the above file to do so as well. I've never had such crazy errors, I genuinely feared for my Droid.
this never happened on the di.

apologies, I should have been more specific.
works great in Droid Incredible

This system app definitely works! My phone overheats with 20-30 minutes straight use.
Tested it just now, using it for about 20 minutes with it plugged in charging. I felt it start to heat up. It heated up to 108* F. I kept using it. Trying out that "own skin" live wallpaper creator, hehe. And I felt the temp go down. So I checked it. It went down to 104*F within minutes. It went down to 102*F, and again its now 99.9*F (Battery temp readings, not processor) I guess I should be checking processor temp, but I don't think Hydra Kernel is supported in SETCPU.
Amazing! I get no errors at all.
Amazing! I believe this was created for HTC Sense UI Devices running 2.1. I would not try it on other devices.

I am very sorry, I dont mean to be rude in the slightest, but you DO know were this came from correct???? If anything it would be for omap devices I am of the opinion that both of you are suffering from a placebo effect. The only thing this apk can be for the incredible is bad news. It was made for the x and the x only, that batteryreport apk i posted came straight from my phone.
As I said above, it is probably throttling a part of the equipment, our phones are already designed to do that and we further complicate the issue by using things like setcpu. Adding this to the mix can only bring chaos. Ive NEVER seen my Droid have a hardware fail like I had tonight. You guys have fun, Im steering clear. Again, I mean no disrespect.

SetCPU that works with proper kernels are able to read cpu temp and not just battery temp.

like i said, it works. if u are having hardware problems, your hardware isnt accepting the apk too well, or u dont have a di. it is perfect for me. even if it is built for omap/hummingbird chips, it is working for snapdragon. you said you have a sholes, correct? i know that it would make sense that the sholes would accept the apk better than the incredible, but it didnt cause iFireworks on my phone. sorry if it almost bricked ur phone, but it worked for me. maybe it has to do with cpu voltage and clockspeeds???
RECAP: it works for the incredible, but i highly reccomend sholes (moto droid) users to STAY AWAY!!!

I didnt know what it did specificly. I know it works, and i know it cools down the phone. I know it is not harmful to the incredible (and very harmful to the sholes). I know it is a good app to have when the phone is 105 degrees.
Ok, we will just have to agree to disagree. Just trying to help. Good luck everyone.
How to you know when it kicks in? Some sort of notification?
Gotta test drive this one. Will report back.

So what all would be required to get calls working on this? Is it just a matter of getting a phone app on there or is it a more complex problem? Id love to see this get to be a full fledged, stable rom.
It won't ever have working phone stuff.
This is honeycomb, not meant for phones

You could have a duel boot setup to have both in one device, easier than switching backups. I'm gonna give this a run, any kernels work best for this?
Loaded this up, slow I expected. No on board keyboard that I got to work. The physical keyboard did not have functional numbers that I got to work. I could not get the power button to work either.Nice work though, looks good.
So, sent from my mobile. What's new?
sorry to bother, but i've a question.. i've got a samsung i9003 that has chipset mostly identical to droid, the rest of the hardware is different, i know, phone, gps, wifi, etc. it is possible to recompile kernel from milestone to samsung, knowing the differences, and adding the kernel modules to make it work? gingerbread for this phone is arriving next month, but no rom have been spotted, but i hopo... sorry to invade your section, but i wanted to ask to some developers and i hope a good reply... sorry for my english.
True, the original software isnt meant for phones BUT, he just managed to boot it on a phone, opening up the possibilty phone use. I want to know whats required to get it working.
I loaded up the rom and it works but there are missing elements, without them it is pretty much useless. I had no wifi or data so I could not load anything on it. Neat to play with though, needs a 1000 MHz kernel just to tinker with.
kind make me happy i made the choice of buying this phone in july last summer.
How about root access? Flashed another overclock kernel pushed setcpu but no root access
Very impressive although for phone use doesn't do much there. Plus I can't use the power switch to shut device on and off
did this project die? hopefully not just seems no development has happened in a while
Really, its not going to get any better than this. Only reason I ported it to my phone was because I wanted to see what it would look like. Then people started requesting ports. This was never and will never be anything close to a DD. Its just something fun to flash and play with for a minute, then go back to your ctual rom.

You guys think development will ever rise up for this phone? I'm thinking of trading my myTouch 4G for this thing because I love AMOLED and the hardware quality of the SGS series. But with the development of the MT4G booming I'm not sure if I should pull the trigger.
Anyone regretting getting the SGS4G as supposed to a Vibrant with it's booming development?
Its coming up fast. New Rom's and themes are popping up almost daily now. Choices of modems, kernels, tweaks, etc....
Imo, grab it up! Its gonna be a fun ride and you'll have the chance to be in the front seat
This phone is lightning fast, download speeds are out of this world, and the development, yet still young, is going to take off like a rocket....and I think soon.

Yeah that's what I'm hoping man. Just that I've been so used to GB these past couple months I'm a bit weary to go back to 2.2, hopefully ext4 kernels will come to this phone soon so that GB ROM's will work on this phone. I'm one of the 10 people in this world that actually like TWiz, lol. So I hope GB TWiz can come soon.
I still think this is a great phone and yeah the screen is pure awesome. As long as you know what you are getting in to, and you want the features the sgs4g offers you should go for it. This is a pretty great community starting up around here and lots of mods and things already available. We will have gb eventually (might be a while but hey) and if its twiz you like--thanks to Whitehawkx--we even have a port of twiz 4.0 from the galaxy s2 available!

the SGS4G supports adobe flash; it doesn't have a physical flash for the camera. while the "night mode" really does do an excellent job, there have been times i've wished for an actual flash.
my GPS works near-flawlessly. personally, i feel the hardware is so superior to the mT4G that the (current) fewer ROM options is a worthy price. super AMOLED is every bit as spectacular as advertised.

Has the 1GB of internal memory ever affected you? I'm worried about that because I have about 70 apps installed and still have about 500mb's free on my MT4G, so I don't wanna have to go back to the G1 days where I have to worry about apps2SD. I know it's a problem with stock GS4G ROM's. But do the rooted ROM's create more internal memory?

i haven't run into any issues. froyo allows the moving of apps to the SD. some apps themselves don't support it, but not enough that i've come close to running into the limit. i have around thirty apps installed, though... so your methods may vary.

I'm making the same jump from a mytouch 4g to this simply because my LED flash burned out and this is my 3rd replacement so I'm just ditching it I want something different. At least with this phone I won't have to worry about the flash burning simply because... there is no flash
But in all honesty I hope that this phone can keep up with the speed of my mytouch 4g. I'm going to miss gingerbread but hopefully this phone will get it soon! The screen looks amazing on youtube, I might walk into tmobile and see how I like this phone. Hopefully it doesn't disappoint.
If speed and responsiveness are your main concerns let me tell you...this phone flys. And lots of tweaks to make it even snappier. Of all the things you might worry about on the sgs4g--speed is not one of those things lol.

I am thinking about buying this phone but being that's its so new... im skeptical. the reason being i want to know if i can add wifi hotspot to this phone after its been rooted
Even before being rooted you can do the wifi hotspot works like a charm!
Ill just let yall know. I have the mt4gs. It is sick. The keyboard is awesome, camera is awesome, no s-off yet but in due time it will come. Wicked fast. As soon as i turned it on i installed quadrant and it ran a 1995 right out of the box. Not bad. Imagine when we are able to overclock this bad boy. This phone has alot of potential. The only downside is that it is a little heavy. But you get used to the weight after holding it for a few minutes. Overall, im glad i picked this phone. Peace.

Yea man, it's almost unbelievable what you can throw at this phone and it still just keeps chugging away doing it's thing.
I've been impressed with it since before I got it, and since getting one it's exceeded all my lofty expectations.
Quite a few times i've been using it, and then when I slid out the keyboard surprised people by that, guess they weren't expecting that after seeing what I was doing with it.
I've been running around plugging it into televisions and playing movies at peoples houses and stuff which is pretty killer. Just about everyone i've met who casually owns an android phone and doesn't get into it like we do here has said "let me try that" and plugged my video cable into their headphones jack...but of course, no dice for them.
One thing i've noticed, after stopping in to just about every T-Mobile store around my area is that most reps have this phone, either in khaki or black. (i'm glad I have a black one though, don't quite like the look of the khaki).
All in all - probably the most impressive piece of hardware on the market at the moment, and has held up pretty well to some demanding field tests.
Can't say enough how much I like the phone - digging into it and running it through the ringer has become an almost around the clock obsession since root became available.
I've already gotten a few people in the process of switching over to T-Mobile just to get this phone, but the darned thing sells itself in all of it's awesomeness.
I like this phone more so than my sensation, mainly for its size and good picture ability. The sensation has a good camera too though, but the MT4GS's is a lot better and i like the dedicated button to take pictures. The build quality of this phone is nice too, it reminds me of what my Touch Pro 2 could have been with more ram and a better cpu.
What are you guys pros, cons, and recommendations.

Great phone, few annoyances
Overall I think it's a great phone, with a lot of potential. The battery life blows the Epic out of the water, the reception is WAY better, and the keyboard is amazing once you get past the initial learning curve.
Even the stock ROM is not that bad.. My only real gripe is the lack of any toggle buttons in the notifications menu. That drives me insane, I use those constantly and HATE having to go into the settings every time I want to turn anything on or off.
I am, however, eagerly awaiting a root method and some custom ROM goodness. Which will quite easily take care of the majority of my gripes (besides the non-removable battery).

I hated that damn epic. this phone is superior in every way. contrary to the "bigger is better" hype, I like the size of the phone. It fits nicely in my hand and I don't have to be a contortionist to get my fingers across the screen. the only issue I have to complain about so far, besides the lack of toggles, is that if you have head phones or a bluetooth device connected, the notifications play thru it instead of the back speak. But that could user error on my part.. It isn't that much thicker than the original Photon. I'm holding them both in my hands right now and the weight isn't that much different either, especially for a slider. I'm not in to much of a hurry for any custom roms. but it would be nice to have root. I'm sure shabby or one of the other great devs will have that taken care of soon enough...

There are other alternatives, just giving 1 example.
So far, my thoughts on this device are that it is amazing! This could just be because i'm upgrading from a DROID Eris from Verizon, but this device does just about everything right!
The keyboard is by far the best one I've used on a mobile device, its very tactile and the back light is bright and adjustable. The phones performance is top notch, no lag in apps or just scrolling around. I've even gotten my ps1,n64,and gba emulators running great with keys mapped to the keypad
My internet browsing experience is been quite good, even though I'm still using sprint's 3g network, all websites load up quick and are smooth.
The screen looks fantastic, although it isn't full HD, colors are vibrant and watching videos is great on the phone. Overall, i am VERY pleased with the device so far, and i cant wait to see what developers have in store for it!

Better than the Galaxy S III?
So, the question for me is how does it compare to the Galaxy SIII?
Well the sg3 was out because samsung does not update crap. So I was leaning towards the htc evo lte when I heard about the photon q. Sometimes I have to compose some sizable emails for work and the touch typing can get pretty frustrating in those situations, so I end up using my epics keyboard a lot. Even thought about getting the htc and a blackberry just for emails for work

Even thought about getting the htc and a blackberry just for emails for work

Why you say that cause it's stuck on ginger bread unless you use cyanogen mod?

The epic started with eclair. Updated to froyo n now has ginger bread stock. That's 2 major updates

i did actually, froyo came a little slower but i understand why, back then AOSP was really closed off towards just the nexus one. you want proof in that look at how long it took from eclair to froyo vs froyo to gb, samsung had based the nexus s off its samsung galaxy line so it was able to know how to have the code work on the humming bird a hell of a lot sooner. in fact the gingerbread update was posted the day ICS was announced, thus making the epic only 1 update "behind". granted its two now but its also past its two year mark (or rather tomorrow it will be, i remember picking mine up on august 31st 2010 launch day)
the epic 4g touch launched with gingerbread not that long ago it got ics and will prolly get jellybean someday. sgs3 launched with ICS and the tmo version already has leaks of JB, meaning it will prolly happen soon.
now lets compare that to the photon (im sure a few other moto phones fit this bill) launched with 2.3.4, after 7?8? months got an update to 2.3.5 instead of ICS, ICS is coming later this year which means it will only be one update behind until Key Lime is released this november, what do you think the odds are of the photon getting jellybean officially? so as of this november it will be 2 behind and stay that way, considering photon owners are 1 year into their 2 year agreement for that device doesnt leave a lot of hope.
