[Q] Downgrade ??? - Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hy guys.
I have made a windows phone 7 app using visual studio 2010, it works fine with the emulator, but i need to put it on my phone.I have an HTC Mozart.
First of all i think i need to unlock my phone, but my os version is 7.0.7390.
I reseted my phone from setting/about/reset , but after that my version is still 7390.
I really need to put my app on my phone, how can i downgrade my os version so i can unlock my phone with the Chevron unlocker ?
Or it is possible to run my app on my phone without unlocking ?
Please help. Thanks.

No. In order to deploy your app to on your device, it needs to be unlocked. Resetting won't help you there, since it doesn't do anything more then wipe the data and bring it back to its factory state. Which means the factory state of your current ROM version. Which in your case is 7390. If you want to put your phone back into a pre NoDo state you should head over to the HTC Mozart forums and have a look for a pre NoDo ROM that you can flash. You'll then be able to unlock your device with chevron and apply all current official updates afterwards. Your device will remain unlocked.

Don't forget about your backup.
You should have a backup of 7008 which can be unlocked (that's what you're looking for).
To check that, Zune, Phone, Settings, Update, there should be a Restore there.

True. I don't know why, but for some reason I didn't even consider that point.

i have restored it ( twice ) but the last restore point is from 5 may and my version is still 7390

I managed to downgrade, i flashed my phone with RUU_Mozart_HTC_Europe_1.23.401.06_Radio_5.51.09.06_22.30.50.09U_by_ansar, it's a 7004 version, and then i unlocked it. I can run my app on my phone now

Your story is not very clear. This is what I get from it:
- Original ROM / Pre-NoDo / Unlocked
- Original ROM / upgrade to NoDo / Locked
- Flashed ROM / Pre-NoDo / Unlocking fails
Is that correct?
Your backup is not working, because you flashed your ROM between backup and restore.
You should provide the following details, or else noone can help you:
- What ROM version did you flash exactly? (eg. I8700XXJK1)
- What are the specific errorcodes / errormessages you get when you try to unlock? (maybe provide screenshots of the problem)

Cool ok thanks alot for the reply.
So in the very beginning, The Original Rom (OPTUS) on 7004 unlocked fine.
Then i updated it to pre-nodo then unbranded it via the registry then i got the nodo update but then i reset it via Phone Settings > About > reset so i ended up with a normal locked phone
Then recently, in an attempt to unlock my phone again, i flashed my phone with BOTH I8700 BSE I8700BSEJK1 and I8700 XEN I8700XENJK1. One of which is a Netherland ROM and one is a Belgium ROM and they both act the same way.
When i try to unlock it, the Chevron unlocker keeps showing the usual message
Sorry, I'm Having trouble communicating with the phone.
- Please make sure it's connected using USB
-Please start the Zune application

and lastly, the restoring, as you mentioned was my initial thought but yeh so thats nothing to worry about
EDIT: Wait, before, i used to be able to open the Chevron Unlocker and tick the boxes and that message would come up but now it doesnt even open the program but just shows that message. Dont know what difference that makes but yeh.
I'm not sure this will help. But try to open this file on your computer:
C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc\hosts
Remove every line that contains WindowsPhone in it, and try again.

nup. im sorry, thanks for yourr help but it still isnt working that great. So right now its just the same as before hahah. I uh. Tried to reinstall the Windows Developer thing but it was interrupted but seemed to have installed fine in the end. but maybe thats why i cant even open the Chevron tool?
Maybe you are running software that uses port 443. Look at this thread for more info: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=938106

Heathcliff, thank you very much for your help but what i found was that the firmware versions i listed ie BSEJK1 & XENJK1, dont work as far as i can tell but i downloaded the DBTJK1 and it now works.
Thanks!

[q] nodo jailbreak

Alright. Here's the story.
I have a Windows 7 64bit computer
+ lg Quantum.
I recently upgraded to the official nodo upgrade
I tried to jailbreak (unlock) my phone and followed all the steps looking at various guides but i could never get pass the
"Uh oh" cannot commmunicate with your phone blah blah make sure that zune is up and ur phone is connected.
And no, im not resetting my phone
Is there a way to unlock after the nodo upgrade?
and if not is there a way to downgrade your wp7?
if you have nodo, than you can not unlock the device.
must make it before..
jap thats right...

Neither of the two posters above me is correct.
To get an official unlock, you have to buy a Marketplace developer account from Microsoft. These aren't available in all parts of the world yet, but where they are, they are considered the "official" option for side-loading apps. This is available on all phones and all versions.
To un-officially unlock your device, use the built-in registry editor in the LG manufacturer/diagnostics app. http://wmpoweruser.com/debranding-tutorial-for-lg-phones-to-hurry-nodo-along-needs-to-dev-unlock/ has the instructions to do so. Developer-unlock is just a registry key; a little searching on this forum will revela which one (I forget offhand).
To roll back your device to pre-NoDO (which will allow ChevronWP7 to work), connect it the Zune software, and then go to Settings -> Device -> Update. There should be an option to restore to the backup which was made when installing NoDo. Note that this is not reversible; you'll lose everything you did since the upgrade. Also note that while restoring this backup will downgrade the phone, simply factory-restting it will not.
The only reason why I want to unlock my device is so that i can install homebrew applications. Sorry i am not bright in technical areas, what does DEBRANDING your phone do?
and will Chevron work after i downgraded my phone?
Unlocking on LG phones works via MFG even after NoDo
yep, Gooddaytodie is correct - almost . Use the MFG registry editor as described step by step in this guide. This still works AFTER NoDo update. I did not unlock or hack my phone before I received the NoDo update.
You do not need to roll back! You don't have to debrand your phone either. Debranding is a change from ATT-US to 000-88 or something other than your current provider and is required if you want to obtain NoDo "unofficially". This can be done in the registry as well. But there is no need for you to do this.
You also don't need the chevron unlocker (in fact it won't work after the registry hack - but you don't need it because it's unlocked already).
Follow the steps in the link and you will have an unlocked phone. I hope you did not unnecessarily roll back yet .
good luck. If you have questions about steps in that guide, send me a PM and I will be glad to help.

Is it safe to update from 7.0.7390.0 to 7.0.7392.0

Just a simple question i have a HTC HD7 on 7.0.7390.0 unlocked and i want to find out if i updated it to 7.0.7392.0 using Zune would my phone still be unlocked?
Why would you want to update, when you know you will lose all youur texts?

if you applied the registry key that is around the forums to keep it unlocked for NODO and everything then it is safe, i have it running and unlocked still
hope i helped.. and remember, if anything would go wrong you can allways "restore" with the zune software to a previous version
hope i helped

But didnt that happen to people when they updated to Nodo???
Nope. No one lost any text messages by updating to NoDo. People may have lost text messages if, in an attempt to resolve a problem during the update, they chose to hard reset their phone. But that has nothing to do with the update itself.

i mean the registry hack that came up when going to "NODO" update would re-lock your phone. and this would anable you to keep your unlock for further even for this newer update.
i think there is a .xap file now that does it automated. but thats what i did and it worked.. i didn't do the airplane mode for that, i think that was just to fool zune into giving you the update when it wasn't showing up if i remember correctly.
i was busy for a while till i found the right place with the info using the search.
this is the link to the .xap i found in another post http://dl.dbank.com/c0u5q3xic8
No, without a developer unlock, 7392 can't be unlocked. I restored from 7390 to 7008, performed the Chevron unlock, edited the registry to prevent relocking, then updated back to 7390, and the phone remained unlocked. After updating to 7392, the phone retains its unlocked status.

Update will not ruin your phone (Dev Unlocked)
But i found some bugs.
If you let your phone run like 2 days non-stops, daily use, sometime the phone wake up in laggy condition. I mean, everything inside the apps is laggy, not the metro ui. The Metro UI is still smooth, but in people tab, photo tabs, IE... everything is laggy. It forces me to reset the phone.
I don't know if this issue is releated to the reg hack to instant resume apps (for now, maybe Mango will have some kind of new "multi-tasking" that we don't know) .
BTW, just upgrade it.
What do you mean by "edited the registry to prevent relocking?" is it the file where I copy to my windows on my phone??

as i said before, you go and get the .xap file that does the edit for you or you go and look for the registry to edit with a registry editor for your phone
the easiest way to do it is to side load the .xap files that does it for you and then just run it on your phone and you're done.
just get the .xap file i provided from another forum or if you don't trust that then search is your best bet, if you wan't do it manually or do it for you with a .xap
of course if you don't have a registry editor on there allready i would just go for the .xap file that does it for you that i provided on my previous post.
hope you get it this time

If you have a backup ready, perform a reroll. If not, download the appropriate pre NoDo ROM for your device and flash it.

NoDo roms for your phone here.
i have successfully gone back to 7004 firmware. But now when i try to use chevron unlock i am getting an error " Sorry, I'm having trouble communicating with the phone. Please make sure it is connected . and zune is started. What might be the problem? Im using zune 4.7
Close any IM programs on your PC or other Programs that might "block" the appropriate port (firewalls, Chats, etc.) . Try a reboot of your PC and try unlocking as the first thing you do before you launch any other program.
People also reported that it helps to put the phone into "airplane mode".
Thanks i rebooted my laptop and phone and then i installed chevron.cert.After that i put my phone on airplane mode and it worked.

[Q] Resetting HTC Mozart 7.5

Hi. So I'm quite new to this and I have done a fair share of googling and searching but I still need some answers. I've got an HTC 7 Mozart on Mango 7.10.7740.16 which is Root Tools Unlocked. Recently my phones been acting up ( the wifi seems to come and go ). I was wondering what is the easiest way to restore the firmware or just reset the phone (much like an iphone restore) while keeping the root tools unlock. Any help will be well appreciated. Thanks :good:
You have to run:
Setting>Informations>More infos>slide down and tap "reset phone".
Depending on your firmware version (the OS version is irrelevant), it may not be possible to reset the phone while keeping the unlock. Don't follow Budniu's directions unless you want to wipe everything, including your data and unlocks. If you've updated the phoen through Zune, or made any restore points manually, you can roll the phone back to the exact state it was in then (before the update, if that's how you took the backup). You'll lose any changes, good or bad, made since then.
Hi! thanks for your replies. The firmware revision number is: 2250.21.40600.061 and the bootloader is 4.6.2250.0 (129193) if that makes any difference.
Your firmware version is compatible with the HTC Interop Unlock hack and the installation of WP7 Root Tools, so if you wanted to do a hard reset and then re-unlock, that could be done (you'd need some way to dev-unlock the phone, though). You would still lose all data currently on the phone, though.
