Can't keep root on kd1 after flashing bali 3.3 uv kernel - Samsung Galaxy S (4G Model)

After every reboot I lose root. Any ideas?

A few others had this issue including myself. Not really sure as to the cause but the best conclusion is that it is due to the issue with that rom. Perhaps try a different rom. Team acids butter rom is very good if you choose that route.

Should I flash the gingerbread leaks!??! Or should i just stick with kd1?
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA App
Up to you, man. Completely.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA Premium App
Totally up to you, but performance wise either one is fine on stock.
Might be a bit easier right now to stick with KD1; Krylon360 will be releasing CM7 (CyanogenMod7) within a week or two.
Alright thanks guys!

If you are just itching to explore a bit, you can also just root your stock KD1 and mess around with that until a newer GB leak comes out.
kf2 is fun!

Full restore on gingerbread works with both froyo and gingerbread roms

To do a full restore on gingerbread just flash a bali kernel with voodoo. Then after the flash reboot recovery then restore your nandroid
EDIT: may also help on soft bricking gingerbread as long as you have gingerbread bootloaders. As you can restore to a nandroid.

I used the voodoo recovery all i did was flash the kernel bali 3.3,then immediately boot back into recovery, then fully restored my backup. I would make a video but i dont have a youtube account maybe dsexton or raverx3x could make a video for it.

First made backup, of course.
Then flashed Bali 3.3
Rebooted to recovery
Restored backup of GB
Rebooted to recovery
Flashed KG4 cwm kernel

Glad I scrolled through and found this...
ICBINB KH2 left me with the vanishing SD card, i was looking for a fix for that problem when I found this... at least I should be able to get back on Black Ice for now.
Followed the steps, so no clue what happened, but it did... and I couldn't get my compie to recognize the phone to Odin back like I usually would... Recovery wouldn't come up like usual either...
One 5 second read here and I'm back on Bali 3.3, and restoring my last Ice nand...
(fingers crossed, but should be good to go!)
Isn't the real question for gb "how to do a full backup?"

cnote thanks for the find. Life just got a whole lot simpler!
so does Gingerbread actually run with the Bali 3.3 kernel then?
or is it just so you can use the recovery console, and you never actually boot the phone? so you would need to immediately flash a GB kernel after this?

You need to flash kg4 cwm kernel after restoring your GB nandroid. If restoring froyo, I always reflash Bali after restore. All this done in recovery. Don't let the phone boot up until you reflashed the kernel.

Yeah, I thought GB doesn't mount the system, so a GB NAND backup can't be made.
@Somairotevoli: Did you flash Bali 3.3 first, then create a backup of GB? I'm so confused on this.

That may be the issue right there.....do you have a 4g sim? I don't think the modems are interchangeable like that.....but if anyone would know for sure it would be Entropy512.....you may be able to PM him or find him in the SGS2 sgh-i777 forum....but don't post this in development.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using XDA App
IDK why that combo wouldnt work, and did you disable before it started the conversion on boot, because it is enabled by default...
It never did a conversion on first boot, I will have to check my SD and see if I have a voodoo folder with disable laggix in it
EDIT : yup I have a voodoo folder with it disabled, so no ext4 conversion on boot.
@tylerdurdin Thanks, as I understand my modem must match my kernel or you have a no go.
Can you tell me if you find a solution?

Again, do not use ROM Manager. It does not work correctly with our phones. Whatever you need to flash, use ODIN or CWM. I'm not sure about UOT Kitchen though.
you flash UOT files though CWM, it works fine and I've done it many times.
Don't use Rom Manager.

So im using one of Dr honks's kernals. The 2.3.3 one with the messed up rainbow screen when you boot it up. Ive already had 4 problems with it and ive been running this for 3 days. Plus I cant even get into recovery. Is there a stable 2.3.4 or 2.3.5 kernal that has recovery?

sounds like you don't have the correct boot loaders on your phone, and you didn't flash gingerbread properly the first time around.
follow FB's directions to get your phone on a correct gingerbread build with the right boot loaders:

keep it tho honestly because this is the only real device that sucks with rom manger and u wont always have that phone
Raver has a great app on his ROM for CWM access..it's called Quick Boot..get it from market. Remember with GB I'd use kj1 from drhonk. Only use Bali 2.3 with froyo.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda premium
Do you guys think that if I do a 2.3.5 kernal by Dr Honks that I wont have to factory rest my phone? Cuz I finally have my phone all organized and the way I like it most and that take forever.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda premium
If u do that through CWM recovery then no u won't.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda premium
Kj1 would work best.. DL it through the phone if u want, move it to sd from the download folder (could be tapatalk folder depending on which browser u use) and flash through CWM . Should be pain free.
