What windows OS are you using? I'm assuming windows was recognizing pre-froyo upgrade?
two things:
1- Are you sure you have the right drivers?
2- Does your phone work if you just try to use it as a drive and pull files off (right phone, right OS drivers, etc etc)? Are you trying to get it to see it on odin or just kies?
If so, go in your usb settings and change it to "ask on connection". Then plug it back in. IF it's already on that, switch it to "mass usb storage". Toggle them back and forth until it recognizes it.

It is windows 7, and actually that was before the froyo update. Found out it was actually the usb cord that i was using. Now i have updated to froyo but am having more problems.

Just got a Samsung infuse and i've had nothing but issues since the start. For starters. Im trying to go back to stock and start over. Ive tried odin and heimdall. ive tried at least 5 different driver packages. NOTHING will recognize the device. Ive tried different cables. different ports. Even different computers.
When I install any driver to it windows gives me code 10.
im about to throw this phone out the window
Are you using odin3.3?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using XDA App
You need to download Kies Mini inorder to obtain the drivers for your device 1st of all. Once the Drivers install it will recognize your phone that is plugged in as Samsung. The rest of the Software does completely nothing other than give us drivers, Once your finished with the drivers reopen Odin set all the options as needed Put your phone into Download Mode and you should see a Port # show up as either 3, or some other number as long as theirs a Port # then you can flash the Rom.
Ok so i FINALLY got the drivers correct. however, ODIN now hangs on 'setting up connection"
now what?
Ok. so i set compatibility in windows to vista sp2 lol now it works?

Previously, were you running it as Administrator? I believe that is required on Win7, but not on Vista (which I am running).
yea... i was running on admin every attempt. weird.
now im just trying to figure out why CWM wont see my external sd card.
Okay I have search XDA and LG AND google search for this problem and have not found any solution to what I'm going through. Here's a little background on my phone
T-Mobile G2x rooted with the ROM HellFire Phoenix V2.1
Before today I was able to mount my SD card to my computer with no problem seeing I've had the phone since it came out. Today my computer showed it was installing the drivers but gave me a message "device drive was not successfully installed...usb composite device failed. Now I have used different usb ports and different usb cables and my computer is STILL giving me the same message!
I have even uninstalled the drivers and reinstalled them and still coming up with the same issue. I even restarted my computer after each and I keep coming to the same issue. Can someone please give me a solution to this frustrating problem? It would be greatly appreciated!
Same exact issue except on 2.2
I think you mean HFP, hfs is only up to 1.7

What about USB debugging is it checked? try the opposite of what it is with a reboot, also link where the drivers are being downloaded from.

Yeah I made sure USB debugging is indeed checked, and when you say try the opposite meaning what? uncheck debugging...reboot then check it again?
The drivers are being downloaded from the LG Mobile Support tool program that downloads and installs the latest drivers. Which can be found here http://www.lg.com/us/support/mobile-devices/phone-support
I even posted on the LG forum as well, got a response from an employee who told me basically what I had been doing, uninstalling , restart the computer, reinstall, restart again and then connect my device and STILL the same message. I have no idea why its doing this, its never done this before unless there was a new Windows update or something but there hasn't been. Oh and my Windows is Vista by the way in case anyone was wondering.
I used B2CAppSetup.exe From LG. I was having the exact same issue, this solved it. I uploaded it here: http://www.mediafire.com/?e2vnaw5a0ljljj4
EDIT: Vista or Seven - make sure you right-click the .exe and Run As Administrator.
I had the same issue with HFS so I just started taking the card out of my phone and putting it directly into the computer.
I had this issue a while back after re-installing the drivers. Plug the phone in and the little systray icon would tell me the usb composite device failed.
What worked was going to the device manager and installing drivers from there, but instead of browsing to the drivers as I tried many times the solution was letting Windows choose. It popped up with two choices the generic usb composite device and the LG phone. Picked the phone and I was good to go.
Hope this helps someone and if it does please hit the thanks button.

Thats the exact program I have been using and I still have the same issue, I'm thinking of just going back to another ROM since it seems to be an issue with HFP then I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one with this issue.
On the stock ROMs you had to set it for USB file sharing only and then actually enable file sharing once it's plugged in. I can't try anything but a stock ROM (running BB 3/2012) at the moment.
Not sure if HF is the same way.....
Antivirus
Once I had driver issues because of an overzealous Antivirus. Try uninstalling the drivers, restart, disable the antivirus, and reinstall.
I have a question for you guys, I tried restoring to a previous Hellfire ROM i backed up thinking that would work and it didn't.
So what happens if I can't get this to work? Without me being able to access my external/internal SD cards I can't load a new ROM or anything even if i wanted to unroot the phone and get another one from T-Mobile I can't or can I?
Is there any other way to restore back to factory settings without connecting to my PC? This is highly frustrating and i have NO idea why my phone and PC aren't working together like they did before in the past.
Did you run as administrator?
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
Yes i have done everything. Run as administrator, restarting my computer after every uninstall and re-install of the drivers, made sure USB debugging was checked, even restored a previous ROM i saved thru clockwork-mod and when i connect the phone through the USB to my computer i keep getting the USB composite device failed.
Nothing seems to work, so I'm thinking of just accepting that its not going to work and save up and get a new phone eventually which sucks cause since rooting the G2x I love it more than when it was stocked.

Ok mshoney6, Here is your solution: (you can thank me later)
After much digging and searching, searching, searching I found this driver and I uploaded it for you. Get it HERE: http://www.mediafire.com/?ahc3iklqmoa0gnc
First, go to your control panel > add/remove programs > and uninstall ANYTHING LG! This includes the Mobile Support Tool.
Second, make sure your phone and USB cable are not connected to your pc.
Now, right-click the file you downloaded above and "Run As Administrator".
DONE! Connect your phone to the PC and Viola!
Hey, I managed to brick my Infuse 4G trying to get Entropy's CM9 on it. I flashed it once and it was stuck on the samsung screen like it was suppose to but when I tried to go to CWM, I would get various colors, mostly blue and orange on the top and a big grey spot in the middle. I am trying to get it back to stock but I am having issues getting my computer to recognize that I plugged my phone in, neither Hermidall nor Odin recognize when my phone is plugged in in Download mode. I have downloaded Kies. Any suggestions?
If you had read any of the numerous other posts on this you would find that Kies creates issues so get rid of it and the colors are caused by the Froyo bootloaders on your phone, something that is fixed when you get GB bootloaders.

If you do everthing correctly and completely, it will get you to stock GB.
From there you can go to ICS and then if you want, to JB. Do not skip ICS and try going to JB. Hope this helps.

I tried installing the setup file in the driver and the computer still does not recognize my phone.
I have been without Windows OS for a couple of months and will be w/o for another 3 weeks, sorry.
You must uninstall kies and do not have your phone plugged in to the computer during the driver install. If I remember correctly, once you download the zip with the drivers to the computer, you have to extract them and then run the setup. Once that is done, reboot the computer and plug your phone into a usb port on your puter that you know to be working.
Should you go forward and use Heimdall, use the same port each time.
Again, I am assuming you are using Windows. With Linux there is no need to install drivers, it recognizes the phone. With mac- no idea.
Maybe try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1683036

I do have a Linux setup ready. Is there a way I can do it with Linux? Thanks again for being so helpful.
Edit: I have been toying with it on Ubuntu and am having the same issue of the computer not recognizing it as far as I can tell. I did get Heimdall working on it.

The only thing you should have to do for Ubuntu to recognize the phone is enable usb debugging in settings on the phone and after that, enable it, most likely from your drop down menu on the phone.
Heimdall will be a .jar file - let me know if you need help getting it to open.

Shame the phone is bricked right now ;/ . Back to my Windows computer. Thanks for trying to help but I think something is busted in my phone that isn't allowing it to tell the computer what it is or something. I don't know. I am going to try my friends computer to see if it is something weird with my own Thanks again for trying to help. If I find a solution, I will post it.
so im trying to download some files on my compo to transfer to phone so i can unroot it and send it back to verizon. im on the latest beanstalk rom and when i hook up my phone to the comp, its saying unable to recognize the phone. any suggestions on what to do? i have debugging turned on in the developer options as well. thanks
Check drivers and try battery pull
ive restarted the phone and i havent had trouble in the past but ill double check the drivers. thanks
figured it out. its because i have kies installed. tried returning to stock through heimdall but was having an issue and installed kies for that. thanks though
I tell you what, I'm not a big fan of MTP especially with ubuntu. I had issues mounting, until i figured it out in Qualcomm usb settings in hidden menu. You would think our phone would mount easily out of the box.

For awhile I had no issue. Even after I realized that I had kies installed and uninstalled it, still had issues mounting it. Couldn't get it and couldn't get the file I need to flash in mobile odin. I have an old Mac btw running 10.5.8. I'm going to have to use a friend's comp to both root my new phone and transfer a stock Rom to return my phone to factory.

When I plug my G3 into my computer using the stock cable, the message to plug it into a USB 3.0 port always comes up and the device will only charge. In order to mount it and make changes I need to reinstall the driver software and repeat this every time I restart my computer. I do NOT have the LG PC Suite installed as I didn't find it useful when I could just manually drop things in folders.
Anyone have any idea what the hell is going on? I'm on Win 7 64 bit

Thanks for the reply. I'll try those drivers and see.
***EDIT***
So I tried it with those drivers you linked and same issue happens. After a restart, when I plug in the phone I get a Windows message saying the device can perform faster if you connect it to USB 3.0, which it is by the way.
Try blowing the usb port out with (canned) compressed air (phone and computer).

Didn't work. The phone will mount and I will be able to access internal storage and SD card after reinstalling drivers, without unplugging the phone. After a computer restart it won't connect.
Good try though
***EDIT***
I also tried installing the PC Suite software and that didn't help. Still requires a driver install for the phones data to be readable

Try these. It's just a older version. I am going to say that the problem may be 3.12 drivers(assuming you are installing them) not playing ball with win7 64

Thanks for the reply but it seems these are the same driver that the other person posted. Didn't seem to work :crying:
Funny little tidbit though, if I uninstall drivers and then plug the phone in, it will install the drivers located on the phone and work until I restart it.
Windows isn't liking the drivers. System restore back a before the problem started?

Unfortunately the problem started as soon as I got the phone. Ugh, I'll probably do a reformat at some point since I need to do one anyway.

Mine does the same, I get the message on Win 7 x64 and even when plugged into a USB3 port i still get the message, I just work around it considering the port on the phone only supports 2.0 by default.

Unfortunate to have to do reinstall drivers all the time, but oh well
I had the same problem except my PC would only recognize the G3 on a usb 2.0 port; it never works on any PC on a 3.0 port. Since my laptop only has 3.0 ports, i have to use a 2.0 usb hub between the g3 and the computer and then it works flawlessly. Pain in the but though, wish LG would fix it by now.
