Would setcpu work in this case just to lower clock speed of the phone? I'd like to lower it when the screen is off.

yea, if you're rooted, setcpu works without any problems. I have my at 1000 mhz min & max but you can set it however you like

It works, but you have to re run it every boot up, because it gets confused (you'll see an error when you run it after a reboot)
Gotta wait for a real update to it to support the stock kernel correctly.

Mine doesn't wake up when in conservative...

What governor are you using? Per directions of app, I try conservative but the phone never wakes up when using a sleep/conservative profile. Same thing happens with the superpower app with or without OnDemand force.

I have the same problem, I've tried a few different setups/governor settings and I still get the same issue. I have to pull the battery to get the phone to turn back on. Also I think the phone actually shuts off, according to an app called System Panel after I rooted and set up setcpu the phone shutoff shortly after I went to bed for the night.
same problem. I set min 100 max 400 for screen off profile, never wakes up.
On the epic, 100mhz is too low for the phone to wake up so 200 is the min
Snce the ns uses a humingbird, that might be the problem too
Try conservative on 200min 1000max and see if it'll wake up

OS Monitor puts the cpu at 100,000khz - 1,000,000khz and shows it changing so yes stock will do it too. However, what they want to do is make sure that, at certain times, the cpu can't reach its full speed and that stock will not do
there is a new version of set cpu 2.10
did anyone try it?
on 2.04 it was still acting crazy
I was having the same issues with the phone never waking up -even with the most updated version of setCPU- and having to pull the battery to get it back on so I uninstalled. However, I flashed the Team Whiskey ROM with the 1.3Ghz kernel and it has been rock solid since. I've overclocked the processor to 1.3Ghz while awake and using on demand governor with 200mhz min/400mhz max when sleeping. No problems so far.
SetCPU 2.10 works properly on Nexus S
just confirmed, it doesn't show weird numbers anymore

Hey I just got set CPU and I'm not going to lie I don't understand hhow to use. I messed around without a bit but it would freeze after a while and the screen wouldn't turn on. I don't care about overclocking it all I really want to do is save battery power. Can someone share there setcpu profile Either the info or just the file.

Hello!
My nexus s i getting very warm sometimes, im on kang milestone (stock kernel) is this normal?
Sent from my Nexus S using xda premium
yes, we all get hot and battery drops faster when this happens.
i think its the cpu governor and clockspeed.
if you put alot of apps on its prossess then it wil work faster, faster = frition. friction=hot. hot= battery drain at a faster rate. dead batt= xda question theads more threads= cramped order. cramped order= more cliick and seeing more ads. all us seeing more ads= more money for xda. xda=thrives off newbies
welcome. we are xda.
But is that normal? Can you recommend any rom that doesn't do that?

It's likely to heat up your phone when playing 3D games, using GPS an the like. Depends on what you are doing with the phone. Also, if you use OC it might get hotter than usual. If you think it's heating beyond any limits, try going back to stock for a couple of days, then if it does the same thing, consider hardware issues.
Is the screen getting warm even with minimal use? I had similar issues with cm7 once when I forgot to do my wipes.
Same with mine mate, few minutes on 3g with full brightness and u can start frying eggs on display screen.
I've found out that it's not happening when my brightness is adjusted at about 50%.
Just wondering how many of u, have set up their phones in auto-brightness mode, cuz i don't see to many post on this forum, regarding overheating issue with nexus s ...

I keep mine in auto-brightness, haven't had this problem.
That's strange, I'm running AOSP+ and Eugene's kernel, not overlocked or anything.
I found with some of these ROM using auto brightness just made it dim and go bright crazy. Either way. I found as bad as it sounds a fresh install the best thing. Titanium backup, sms restore, and then wipe everything clean. Solved all the hassles
Mine has gotten warm with heavy use since I got the phone.
If your running voodoo and have your gamma sliders boosted to hell and back, this also will make the phone run *quite* warm.
Hi,
I just want to know if he SOD (sleep of death) when charging the phone will ever be fixed with CM roms?
I experience it since a very long time....
Or if this cant be fixed, is there any good workaround and why does the phone SOD?
I have my phone set to max clock at 500 something while charging, stops that.
Also check which apps you have. Some apps cause sod for me (usually widgets).

Check "stay awake while charging" under application-development settings.
It keeps the screen on, also eliminates all sod's

That's why there's this nifty little thing on the phone that let's you change the screen brightness, lol. I just tap the setting on my homescreen until it goes to minimum brightness. Then when I wake up, tap it once and it's back to medium where I usually have it. Although, it takes more than my phone lighting up to wake me up, lol.

Thanks for your inputs guys.
2 things to ask.
Anyone tried a charger with less Milliampere on it. our current is 1.0A. I heard that one with less may fix this.
Also, to the guy setting 500 Mhz when idle, does this reduce battery life or you set this only when charging?

I do it only when charging. I used to do it while the screen was off but it caused occasional SOD.
I'll check my charger. I think it's 5 volts and 750mA.

+1 to setting it to stay awake when charging. After finding out about that, ive never had a SOD so far, and that was a year ago. Not sure why the screen would turn on though when getting a text. Never had that happen to me with people texting or calling me; I always just turn off the screen and it stays off. Guess it might be the kernel?

Put it upside down. It won't get scratched unless you deliberately try to sandpaper the screen
I had this problem with stock CM kernel, no SOD with Morfic kernel....never
if you go to the dev menu and disable sleep while charging (check the stay awake box) it fixes the problem.

Could've sworn I said that last page :good:
Yep stay awake do work.
I tried modifying the CPU clock to +- 500 Mhz , but the phone still SOD.
I really think the problem is when the GPU enter idle state when charging.
Are there any tool to monitor GPU clock and changing it?
Is this SOD problem you are talking about part of CM7.2 or CM9? Which CM are you running and who's ROM? I am running Domination ICS w/ CM9 and have no SOD while charging.
Hey guys,
I have a problem. My note is always awake even when the device is not running any application and the screen is off. I saw this in the battery graph that is present in the system settings.
Does anyone else have the same issue?? I am not sure why that is happening. My Wifi and Mobile Network are off. There are no applications running in the background.
Can you please help me out with this?
It may be CPU. Try with CPU spy as well

I'm having the exact same problem i won't use it for a few hours with no apps running and the screen still stays on
check
settings/display/screen timeout
Was there any resolution to this? My note is awake all the time whether the screen is on or off. CPUSPY says that the processor is at 200mhz 74% of the time. Just leaving the tablet alone I can see a sharp decrease in battery life over time.
Spyware.....? Adverts.....?
Something has a wakelock on your system. Get the app Bettery Battery Stats and it will tell you all the wakelocks. You can get the full version for free here on XDA http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179809.

im on the official latest radio.. and i havent made a phone call today.. out of no where it started acting like this.. did a battery pull even so maybe we will see what tomorrow brings..
whenever i see something taking up an irregular amount of battery i just reboot and it usaully fixes it
Whats your current ROM/kernal combination? I have the same battery; CleanRom RLS6 and Hyperdrive RLS9 I was getting around a day and half.
Pretty sure I figured it out. Seems like it was from the kernel I was using.. The Zeus kernel. Did a few battery pulls and it was still acting up. I was getting 12+ hours screen on time with the battery before I switch from lean kernel to the Zeus kernel. Back to lean and I'm at 2 hours screen on time and battery is at 90 percent. So I think I'm good now.

I noticed with the zues kernel i needed rom toolbox for any changes to stick. Nothing else worked for me. There are a few apps to check out whats going on (better battery stats, wake lock detectors, and cpu spy) cpu spy will tell you if its going into a deep sleep.

What changes in did you make to the Zeus kernal? I do know its a little power hungry than most; I just recently switched back to my normal battery and it seems to eat at it pretty quickly.
I changed gov. to pega-whatever it is and i/o to Zen.
