Hi all, I'm experiencing some big troubles with my Desire S. I've made it S-Off quite easily by using alpharev, then accordingly I've tried many times to root and get Superuser by Gingerbreak. Finally, after failing many times to get root, I've made it, but now the phone won't connect anymore to my mobile network, its dead. When I try to switch on mobile network on the shortcuts it gets ON but nothing happens, and when I try to switch it on by using Settings it will load for approx one minute, then it seems activated, but nothing happens and the phone will not connect to and/or seek for mobile network. I've tried a factory reset too by using CWM but nothing changed. Please note that wifi works flawless, so I hope I didn't f**k up the baseband...
Please help !
Did u remember to pay your phone bill =-O, lol jp by the way did u try out a rom or are u stocked

i'm stocked
Why didn't you use the flashable zip?
Did you do a nandroid backup?
Sent from my HTC Desire S using Tapatalk
I used the alpharev windows app and then installed gingerbreak .apk for the root.
I didn't use the flashable zip 'cause every instruction i've found didn't mention it (by the way what flashable zip are you talking about?), Same for the nandroid backup. I was trying to backup with Titanium backup but without root it was useless...
have you already checked if you can see your apn's?
how do i do that?
solved: i installed CWM and then installed the radio from a zip in the sd card.

ok guys i been trying this for months, heres what happen, So i update to Froyo via Mini Kies, and after that i flash on a ROM but the phone was blocked so i did a Hard Reset. I used Odin to bring it up to life after that i did put the root file on card trie to run the recovery mood style and was an error message like not recognizer something, then i downloaded the Super one click and it stills with the same problem cannot root the phone, I am thinking is something about drivers, i been reading a lot here before posting this.
Thanks for Help!!!
It would help if you posted your phone information
Yeah what phone are you using nowdays most phones have a one click root sw unlike the past.

Ok it is a SAM. 959, I HAD IT ROOTED BEFORE TJE UPDATE, NOW I CANNOT DO IT. Thanks for your help really appreciated!!!

You probably have the 3e recovery since updating to Froyo. Try reverting to stock 2.1 and going from there or look for the 3e recovery fix.

So 2 question : will I lose all info and data cause I don't have BACK up, how do I perform the downgrade?
Thanks!!!
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Yes you will lose all data. I suggest you backup contacts and write down which apps you want to reinstall. Search for one click odin back to stock for your phone.
I have the 959 as well. You can do it with the 2.2.1. It's just tricky. What I did(I'm too lazy to revert):
1. Run in debugging mode
2. run superoneclickroot (even if you are still rooted) it will say fail but the ADB helps I guess.
3. also get 3e_revovery_installer and run it in tandum with superoneclick
4. do CWM but don't select rom
5. in 3e_recovery_installer, let it run the ADB server stuff and once it's done, key in (1) to reboot into recovery mode.
6. once in recovery mode on your phone, install packages. It will probably fail and reboot into recovery again. Re-install packages again and it might fail.
7. Reboot and repeat all steps and it should work after you re-install the packages.
8. ENJOY!!!! (weird I know)
Download Titanium backup from the market to save your apps.
I just received the ota for 2.3.4 . Im wondering if my rooted phone will update correctly, Im still rooted on 2.3.2 stock rom, now my issue is that when i rooted the phone i didnt rename the recovery img or whatever it is your suppose to do... I never lost root, i just couldn't boot into recovery.( it was my first time rooting and im surprised it didn't brick in the first place so i didn't wanna go back in and F it up anymore)
now i know if i let the update install i will loose the root, i'm not really worried about that I just want to know if it will install correctly? and also if it does will my phone basically be like a new nexus s out of the box? like will i loose all my data, pics, music all that good stuff??

If you do the OTA, you will lose root. Do it manually.
I mean seriously, you've managed to root your phone. The idea of puttiing the 2 files in your sd card (the 2.3.4 update zip file and the su-2.3.6.1-ef-signed.zip file) shouldn't sound too hard to do.
After flashing the update via clockwork recovery...
(Note: if you try and install it via Rom Manager it will reboot by itself after installing the update. Therefore, losing root. So I suggest doing it manually: powering down and going into recovery mode.)
Instead of pressing on reboot you would then go and flashing the other file (su-2.3.6.1-ef-signed.zip) that's already in there.
Once that's done you can reboot.
(This maintain permanent root.)
Download and install Root Explorer app from Android Market
Open Root Explorer and navigate to etc directory
Tap on the gray box that says Mount R/W
Tap and hold on the file install-recovery.sh and rename this file to install-recovery.sh.old
Once renamed, download and install the app called ROM Manager from Android Market
Once installed, open ROM Manager app and choose Flash ClockworkMod Recovery option.
Now you have 2.3.4 and permanent root. Don't make it harder than what it seems.

Ok lets say for retard purposes I wanted to loose root, updating would install correctly? I'm asking because I plan on getting the sensation when it comes out and I think it would be easier selling a stock phone.

can anyone confirm that the update will install correctly with no errors ??
Yes it will install fine and remove root for you.

And I do not really know what to do, I bought my phone rooted, second hand.
If your phone is Rooted, it will not take the OTA update, you have to be Stock!

I am using Nexus S i9020A (unlocked).
After updating to 2.3.6 (GRK39F), I lost all cellular connections (voice and data) effectively making it useless.
There is a page on Google Support for people like me who have faced this same problem.
google.com/support/forum/p/Google+Mobile/thread?tid=6946203d6a4d4b2f&hl=en
I successfully installed stock 2.3.3 but I still do not have voice & data. I also tried Cyanogenmod stable 7.0.3
Though the images above did flash the radio back to KB1/KB3, I also manually flashed a couple of radios that I knew worked with my phone previously. Still I do not have voice or data.
Is there a way to make my phone work again?
Thanks..
I suspect that the new baseband has invalidated something in your efs folder. Make a backup of your efs folder before you do anything else. Team Win Recovery Project offers this ability in their custom recovery image.
You should then check the radio thread in development and follow method 2 for restoring data, very very carefully.

Just fixed mine last night with the same problem... download the UCKD1 radio... flash via fastboot
After that go into development and look for the radio thread u can't miss it. Should be one of the top threads on here... Should Read Nexus S Radios.... on the very first page scroll down to 3G Connection.... make sure u have Root Explorer ... if u don't ... go into 4shared.com and download it there its the 2.16 version [shhhh] lol follow the instructions by copying the 3 files in the EFS Folder and place all three into root of SD.... after that simply back out. Btw you can copy the files via root explorer by press and holding for the pop up. Turn phone off and on... =] should be OK. Remember back up your esf file and never use Rom Manager unless u wanna risk it.

No, you don't copy the files, you move them. This is so
you have the originals should something go wrong when they are regenerated. Copying the entire folder achieves the same thing and is less fiddly.
Read the radio post.

I copied them and I'm ok

thanks to both of you!!
my phone's working fine now.
i have one of the white nexus s models that were being sold on negri electronics before at+t introduced theirs. mine is still stock, will this fix work on my stock, unrooted handset?

No u need root access and root explorer... have to use command prompt

Woo! you guys nailed it. Remove 3 files from efs directory and it's all good.
Thanks!
As my post suggest I want to know if there is a way to install a custom rom on my Tmobile HTC ONE S without moving it to SD. I messed up and ended up deleting the current rom I had on it. I have unlocked the bootloader, and I previously had Zydroid v3.5. Currently I am able to use CWM on it but there is no data on the SD that I can use. Thanks you.

Yea, that's my way of doing it. It pushes it from your computer to your SD Card so you can flash it in CWM from there.
If you have no /data/ on your SD Card, that's ok. I did the same thing. Once you get a ROM installed and working, you'll be fine.

I have spent the last 7 hours just trying to look through all threads to try to address this issue. Right now I am unable to send any zip file to my device through ADB. However by using the recovery tool in the ALL in One kit utility I can send a touch recovery .img file to my HTC One S. At first it shows error: could not find device but then the next line pushes that file with no issues.

Thanks for the replys. I acutally got ADB to work by using the mount feature in TWRP recovery tool. However now any custom rom I run will only crash and get stuck in continous boot cycle if I try to activate wifi. This whole issue started when my stock phone got an update two days ago, and it completely messed up my wifi. I should of waited and taken it to the T-mobile store but now its too late. I have unlocked, rooted and put a custom rom on it. I tried using the RUU file to go to 1.53 but i keep getting 155 unknown exception error. For now I will just have to use my phone without wifi till I have more time to look into this wifi issue.
U get the error cuz ur not using the right ruu for ur phone of ur Europe I can send u the ruu for ur phone

Unable to locate 1.84 RUU, but I heard that a user named "football" has it but requires a donation. The next best step I think is to try a rooted Nanorid of 1.84 that I found in
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1698861&page=4. Ill try this when I have more time. Right now using Zydroid 3.5 rom which works fine except for my wifi. Loading my wifi will crash my phone and put me in a crazy boot cycle.
Alright so I have use a 1.84 rooted backup and successfuly installed it on to my phone. However I still have my wifi issue, also my blue tooth does not work. I also loaded the boot.img file from the backup through fastboot but still having the same error.
I flashed different radios, tried nanoroid backup of 1.84, but wifi does not work. Wifi stopped working while I was still on stock rom. In the end I paid 20 bucks for tmobile to ship me a new phone, hopefully I wont have issues and I will stay on stock rom.

When you sent it back you went back to RUU and locked bootloader, etc?
I haven't sent it back yet, I will be getting my new HTC ONE S in the mail in two days, and then I can ship my old phone back. Right now my phone is on a nanoroid back up of 1.84 stock rom with root. I tried going back to 1.53 but we dont have S-off so unable to do it. If i try to do that i get 155 unknown error in the RUU launcher. The t-mobile techs didnt know that my phone is rooted cause it basically is the stock rom. I have relocked the phone and I hope that the real techs dont notice that I unlocked the bootloader and it that its still rooted.
Im cancelling my order, some how my wifi works now. Yesterday I did a wifi radio install from europe, but it didnt seem to work. I also relocked the system and rebooted couple of times, this may have helped solve the issue as well.

Download the latest CWM Recovery and flash it as you did the previous, would be smart to get the CWM Touch version.
Well lets see with a rooted phone, you can install apps from various APK files, some of which allow you to use your device as a tethered modem for a laptop or Tablet. What more can you do with a rooted phone, well you can install various custom ROM's, but if you are not familiar with that aspect, READ, READ, and READ some more take several days to read on how to do it, before you download anything to do it. NO ONE will take responsibility for anything that you do to your device, except for yourself. You brick it you buy it.
There are a LOT of custom ROMs out there, read up on them, and find one that suits you. Don't just flash the first one you see, be as best informed as you can possibly be.

Get Super Manager from market. Copy the whole EFS folder to an external sd card. Then from there copy it over to your comp. This way you have two backups of the whole thing.
My phone is rooted, what would be the best way for me to unlock the tethering option without having to pay for it? I would prefer a way to do it like by root explore and changing some values as to installing an app....any input would be great. And yes I'm rooted on stock ics, from att
