[Q] Upgrade O2 branded DHD via OTA - General Questions and Answers

Hello,
I hope to not open a double Post, but I do not found anything similar
I like to upgrade my DHD (HTC Desire HD) with Android 2.2 (Build 1.38.207.1) to Gingerbread.
I have rooted my device with "visionary" and I also get S-Off with "Easy Radio tool v2.2", I checked my CID after this and the CID is HTC__102 for German, after this I made for disaster recovery a backup with "Titanium" and also with the "ROM Manger". Then I tried to get Gingerbread via OTA, but I get only the message no updates available! Can someone help me? I like to update via OTA to not lose my phone data.
Thanks in advance!

[Q] Before & After OTA 2.3.4.

Hello,
I have below mentioned concerns before installing OTA 2.3.4. Could you please give some advices? Thanks in advance.
- I am running on stock S-ON Android vers. 2.3.3 & Software nr. 1.35.401.1 with CID: HTC-EastEurope HTC__032
- Will any contacts, messages, apps., etc. be deleted after upgrading? If so which backup/recovery program do you recommend?
- Hence CID is HTC-EastEurope HTC__032, there is not Turkish for system language. To get the Turkish language I should change the CID and install a proper ROM I think.
- I have read some posts that after OTA 2.3.4. upgrade HTC could recognize the users which turn to S-OFF. Is that possible? I am planning to S-OFF & ROOT but with techniques explained here, not with HTC's ones.
- Is there any way to go back to 2.3.3 after 2.3.4. upgrade?
1. With the OTA you won't lose any data - it only updates the system files
2. If you don't have Turkish now you won't after the OTA
3. They will know if you use the official methods, not otherwise
4. Yes, but it involves using the 1.35.401.1 RUU and making your phone CID 'Super' (11111111). You will lose ALL data doing this, though

HTC Chacha ota update 2.3.5

Guys
Thought Id start a thread on the newest update I received this morning. Android version 2.3.5
So far I have noticed the following changes
- Time, carrier and date bigger and bolder on lockscreen
- New version of android market
- Bad Spelling underlined in text messages in red (but not auto changed)
- More transparent app and personalize buttons on homescreen
Changes I hope have been improved (but am testing)
- hoping the dialer draining battery issue is resolved (gonna take a day for me to monitor this
- stop cursor jumping to top of sms threads (intermittent for me so hard to be sure
There are probably some more system changes etc - but cant seem to find any official release document

1.54.401.2 - had a little symbol in my notification bar waiting this morning!
1.54 on mine also, starting today.
Let the trials begin and come back in a day or so with details.

What's your CID? My Chacha with CID VODAP001 running the same software doesn't see any updates due to the Vodafone CID it still has.
As other people, I didn't get the OTA at the moment. I really hope that SMS bug will be fixed !

When i use CID Getter from the Market i get the CID (ro.cid) O2___102 (o2 DE)
edit: ChaCha is unrooted and has s-on ... but i made a goldcard and installed RUU 1.33 over the o2-branded-system (OOTB Software 1.19.206.1 / Android 2.3.3)
When i get s-off/root and SuperCID 11111111 can i update the Software OTA from 1.33.401.1 to 1.54.401.2 or to i have to use CWM ?

That'll be why you can't see any OTAs from 1.33 - I believe you'd need any of HTC's generic CIDs (HTC__001 for the UK, for example) or SuperCID - I downloaded the OTA .zip and had a look at the updater-script, it checks for the following CIDs:
00000000, 11111111, 22222222, 33333333, 44444444, 55555555, 66666666, 77777777, 88888888, 99999999, HTC__001, HTC__E11, HTC__102, HTC__203, HTC__405, HTC__Y13, HTC__032, HTC__016, HTC__N34.
So for OTA updates from HTC Generic softwares, you'd need one of them CIDs - most people would recommend HTC__001 or 11111111 - I'd personally recommend 11111111 as it'll let you flash anything.

Yes, you would be able to OTA to 1.54.401.2 after you S-OFF/SuperCID, but you'll need to use the stock HTC recovery for it to apply. I've read that CWM Recovery errors out when trying to apply an OTA .zip
I got the notification, mine is UK version,
can I download and install OTA even if my chacha is rooted already?
cheers

thank you for this informations.
i am at Stock 1.33 EU (RUU) at the moment, so i understood, that i can just update the 1.54 via update.zip in the bootloader/recovery after s-off/supercid?
just a quickie - when i installed the update I lost no data at all - after the install and reboot my homescreen returned as it was before the update
Well, it's an update. Not a new rom It's supposed to keep your data
Anyways, for everyone out there using carrier custom roms (these also have special CIDs like O2_xx, VODA_XX and so on) you need to understand that after a rom is released by HTC, the carrier must then take the rom, apply it's bloatware and then release it for update. So that's why basically non-branded phones usually get OTA's way faster than the branded ones. This is generally available for any phone. Hope this clarifies things a bit.
I can confirm dialer issue still remains (i suspected this as it is a gingerbread issue)
Updated yesterday and performed a data reset. Memory management appears much better. Phone had over 100mb free on data reset.
Hi all,
I got a carrier-free Chacha at MediaMarkt (Spain), it's on software version 1.22.412.2 and has CID HTC__304, however when I check on updated it keeps saying it's up to date and no updates available.
The phone is, unfortunately, s-on. Could this be affecting me? Or maybe it's because of the CID? In Europe everyone is getting 1.54 but me? Sounds weird...
Thank you for your help.
Most of us have already S-OFF'ed their devices and we are using leaked versions. You'll have to wait for the official update to your phone. Or you can simply S-OFF and install a custom ROM if you want.
Thanks for the info. I wrote to HTC Spain Customers' Support and they told me to put my ohone date on next year for a couple of days and the 2.3.5 update should appear (either this way or in secure mode).
I'm waiting until tomorrow ans I'll let you know... Thanks!
hmm, i think you or them had confused two different things:
Android version: which now is 2.3.5
with
Software number: which i personally have 1.52
I think you told them you have 1.22 and they understood that you have Android version 1.22, instead of 2.3.5
Correct me if i'm wrong!

Remove Revolutionary Unroot for official OTA & Warranty & Stock Rom

I bought my used Desire S and it was rooted with revolutionary so i could not get OTA from 2.3.3 beyond. I read some threads but nobody was telling me which RUU i needed as my phone was unbranded and i was not sure about its origin. I managed to bring back the official stock Rom and original radios, hboot and downloaded and installed 2.3.5 successfully.
Nobody could help but finally i managed to take the risk and it paid off thankfully.
It is the easiest and fastest way to unroot, remove superuser, revolutionary and to restore hboot back to normal and S-On again, to get official updates including ICS.
Download the attachment "usmanxhmed.rar", it has Android Flasher and FlashENGHBOOT.
Attach your phone to PC with USB cable, make sure you have HTC fastboot drivers installed.
Open Android Flasher and select bootloader and browse to the file FlashENGHBOOT which you downloaded in file "usmanxhmed.rar", boot phone into fastboot and click flash.
It will remove REVOLUTIONARY **** from the phone.
Now download your specific RUU from this link http://www.filefactory.com/f/c64d333a2755a421/ i was unsure which is my RUU for the phone as i bought it second hand, my phone was unbranded, i matched the software version and radio version in my software information of the phone and downloaded the specific RUU.
After flashing the RUU my Desire S became factory fresh and back to S - ON and updated my phone with Android 2.3.5 and Sense 3 and hopefully/ may be i will get ICS in future as well
Good guide cheif
Sent from my HTC Desire S using XDA
Thanks ttocs99
Quick question, this might not be the best spot for it but it is somewhat related.
My desire s is branded/locked to vodafone portugal, so i have no specific RUU in that list. What will happen if i use Europe one? Or UK's Vodafone?
Best Regards,
Daniel

[Q] cant update back to 2.3.5 after downgrading hboot and whatnot

okay so I haven't quite got used to my HTC yet, am so used to my old nexus s, so that could be why I am confused.
Basically as soon as i got the phone the ota updated to 2.3.5 sense 3.0 and all was fine but then i decided to downgrade my Hboot so i'm back to the 98.000 or whatever and it works fine, i used revolutionary, re-romed a lot!! and then took rev off, so its back to S-on and Hboot locked... the only thing is that since being back on sense 2.1 i wondered if i could push the ota update back (no longer showing up) or if someone had the RUU? mines the VODAFONE version though so the normal europe one doesn't work trust me.
if anyone could help it would be much appreciated, thanks.
If your phone is vodafone branded, then the CID setting would lock you to using vodafone RUUs / OTAs, hence generic HTC / europe ones would fail.
To solve that you can either:
1. Use XTC clip to get SuperCID or
2. Create Goldcard
Both methods allow you to flash non-brand-authorised RUUs / OTAs.
Hope this helps!
i used the goldcard and ran the RUU straight after and it worked perfectly THANK YOU! .. me and my boyfriend had made a goldcard before but we never really knew what it did lol.. now i know

[Q] Rebrand Desire S with ICS wwe from HTCDEV

Dear all,
I am in the middle of the bridge and don't know where to go...could you please give some help deciding what to do?
I have a Branded Desire S (Vodafone) with v2.3.5 lastest OTA update, and I would like to flash and try the ICS stock WWE from HTCDEV.
The simlock has already been removed, but the thing is can i flash this ICS update? do i need any goldcard or anything of the kind? Will the phone work ok? Or do i have to wait (maybe forever...) for the vodafone update? I reallly would like to unbrand the phone (the vodafone logo and other vodefone apps are really annoying...).
I think if this WWE update will go ok, when i received and warning about any vodafone update (because the serial indicates that this phone is a vodafone one) i have to ignore it and only apply only any WWE updates from HTCDEV, rather than that, i thing phone will work ok... but still i am worried about some things like :
- bricking phone with ICS update;
- some things don't work ok with this update because is a branded phone (i chat with HTC support and they told me that some guy complained about WIFI does not work after the ICS update, ... could it be possible, even if the hardware is the same from branded and unbranded phones?;
- possibility to go back to a 2.3.5 rom if i dont like for whatever reason of the ICS of its behavior on this phone; the HTC guy told me that only on the HTC assistance was possible to make it ... dont we just have to run the correct version of the ROM (by the way i don't know which is mine, could you please tell me? Because i seached on the HTCDEV for the right software number (2.10.168.3) and the file to download is a ".gz" file not a .exe one;
Other thing, does this ICS include a PTG (Portugal) language.
I will be forever grateful for all the help / hints you can give me.:good:
Thx in advance.

From what I've heard, the ics update has bugs, that can only be solved with root access. Flashing the ruu should work fine though, but you won't be able to downgrade without unlocking the bootloader to get root access.
For these reasons I would recommend making your phone s-off (see guides in the "general section), and installing a fixed version of the ics update, or whatever custom rom you want. Then you can still go back to the original state, if you want to.
I read somewhere on my downgrade guide that they have successfully debranded their phone using my guide.
Sent from my HTC Desire S using xda app-developers app
Ditto to above two comments, read, read and then soff rather than htcdev
Sywepd form my DsereiS
Thx for tips, Will soff erase contacts or apps? For root with soff how to flash su??? Is there any repaired / bugless ics stock?
