I can also confirm that it works on Windows 7 x64. Make sure that you connect Desire S with USB Debugging and Charge only.

If there was any doubt... No problems with windows XP 32bit
Worked a treat last night on my wifes Desire S which is now runing Virtuous Unity. Probably the easiest thing to do would be to download the Ubuntu live CD and use the linux method (what I was going to do till they re-released the windows version).

thank you Alpharevx!
I have a problem and hope you can help me.
I've made my device via AlpharevX S-Off. Then I flashed a custom ROM. But I had previously made a backup of my old original ROM by CLokworkMod.
But by then I played an original RUU ROM about the CUSTOM ROM. Now appears only the HTC characters on a white background and I'm just still in the boot loader.
But I'm not even in the recovery menu.
Can you help me?

When you say htc characters do you mean the dancing robots or the hboot screen?
when you enter the bootloader does it still show as s-off and what hboot version?
I take it that you were root when you took the original cwm backup?

I mean the bootscreen (HTC in green on white background).
When i open the bootloader it shows ALpharevX S-OFF und hboot version 6.98.0002
I don't know what do you mean with: "I take it that you were root when you took the original cwm backup?"

It sound like you're stuck in what's known as a boot loop.
If you enter bootloader and select recovery what happens?
I'm afraid that I'm not 100% sure what to suggest, but am sure someone will have a suggestion.

When i select recovery first the green HTC letters on white background appear than you can see a symbol of a telephone with a green arrow above. after a few seconds the screen will turn black and the handy vibrate a few times
wrong hboot version
I tried to S-OFF my Desire S with Alpharevx. It said my hboot is 0.98.2000 and it was not supported.
Is there another way to S-OFF my phone? Can I downgrade my hboot and how do I do this? Or do I just wait for when my hboot is supported?

That's what I am wondering. Every other RUU he uploaded were zip files that you just flashed through HBoot & this one is a exe file. How do you use this? This is a non-Rooted Rom right?

Don't know exactly where you coming from and going to, 4.53 to 4.54? But something and that has been working and continued for me.
This ruu.exe is ran from the PC through usb debugging enabled, and having the correct drivers installed, I am on xp so I ran latest drivers maually, for higher o/s ver. its going to regonized the android and try to install autmatically....press stop/cancel you will need to configure it manually to have it install the correct drivers.
assuming you done this already, then enable settings>applic>develop>usb-deb and device powered on to home screen, from pc just double click the .exe and go through simple menu's and continue to process.
good luck and hope it helps..
latest Drivers

my dilemma is that I have a rooted evo running a synergy rom on Hboot .79 and Radio 1.39
thing is that the s status is S-ON on this particular phone and unrevoked forever does not work on that radio version.
I've tried to upgrade the radio through clockwork recovery with the prepackaged zip yet when I reboot the phone still shows the old radio version.
I've tried installing an RUU from the PC but they all error out.
I'm looking for an RUU packaged in an install-able .zip that includes updated Radios Kernels Hboot and ROM in one. Is that even possible so i can fix this phone and get it some updated radios?!

So I know you say it "should" but I don't want to RUU and then still have my batman logo as my splash screen, that would suck. I would ave to re-root it to try and find a splash .img, but I guess I will try it out and see if it works.

I have the opposite issue. I have S-OFF (Revolutionary) but on stock unrooted (brought the phone to Sprint for a broken power button, and they ended up not fixing it, but flashed 4.53 stock rooted).
How the hell do I get this ROM rooted since Revolutionary doesn't want to root it because the bootloader is unlocked and I can't go to recovery because once I'm on the HTC white background fastboot screen, the volume button are locked and my power button is dead anyway...
I'm trying this Ruu .exe hoping it will give me S-ON but I'm doubtful it will happen...
EDIT: Just as I thought, I'm now on stock rooted 4.54 with S-OFF. And no power button

They will always update the splash screen, it helps to identify the firmware and rom versions at a glance. During install the setup program will create a temp folder with PC36IMG.zip or update.zip look in this zip file and you should see a splash.img file or something like that (sorry haven't looked HTC updates since my Hero Days).

It will not let me reboot because it say I have no os. I did do a tiatium backup but can only see those files on my pc when I mount through twrp. Also if it helps looks like it is in s-on. Did a sys, and app backup. Went ahead and went through the beats hack installed and rebooted. Phone turned on as normal. Then went in Rom toolbox changed font and boot animation. Rebooted and then wouldn't boot past t mobile image. Ok so this is where I think I blew it. Did battery pull, went into bootloader. Went into twrp. looked for a restore nothing titanium back up folder empty on phone but found when mounted to pc. Wiped catch wiped dalvic, now the stupid wiped the system.. now can't get out of Twrp says "are you sure you want to reboot no os found" I'm really hoping this is fixable

If you has ICS, the radio should be 11.22 or something close to that.

Hello.
I could really do with some help, please.
I have a HTC Desire S, completely stock standard, un-rooted, s-on etc etc, and it i stuck on the hboot/fastboot.
First off it became unresponsive, so pulled the battery and tried restarting it. It bootlooped a few times, so decided to use volume down/power buttons and tried fastboot then recovery. I can't remember what it did in those options as it was a few days ago now and I've been trying to find a solution since.
Anyway, I eventually did a factory reset from hboot and that seemed to do the trick for about an hour after which it crashed and entered the state it's in now.
The only thing it'll do is boot into fastboot. It doesn't matter what option I choose, it shows the android on a skateboard and returns to fastboot. The only thing it'll do is power down.
The phone is un-rooted, s-on.
The only details I have are on the fastboot screen which says
*** LOCKED ***
SAGA PUT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT-2.00.0002
RADIO-3822.10.08.04_M
eMMC-BOOT
Oh and if I plug in into my Mac, it says "Fastboot USB" & "hboot USB plug" but not seen on by the Mac.
Help. Please.
I've bricked it, haven't I?

htcdev wont work because adb is not working, and he'll keep getting "fail to verify signature" error. or the screen will stuck on "Waiting device"

Have you tried running an ruu?
“We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars.”

I've tried plugging it into a windows machine with the same results - nothing.
I'm at work at the moment so don't have time to read the sticky mentioned (I will do later this evening), but I've run adb (on mac and windows) and it doesn't find a device.
I cannot 'get onto' the device, via USB or sd card, to do anything with it. I would've tried running RUU's and whatever but all the guides need the phone to be seen by a computer or run something from an sd card.
I've even tried swearing at it while gesticulating angrily..
I'm hoping you guys are going to tell me it's not an ineffectual doorstop just yet, but I fear it may be so.

If you pulled the battery and that's when the problems started, you might have bricked the emmc. In that case you do NOT want to unlock.
Verify that your emmc is OK first before unlocking through htcdev!
Ah, I think I read some mention that in another thread I read.
So, first check the emmc is ok then follow the guide mentioned above if it's ok.

This is ridiculous.
Unless someone has a link to the drivers form somewhere other HTC, which I doubt, I'll be back, but I could be sometime.
Try a computer running win 7 , dont download any drivers, make sure internet connection is okay on pc, just connect ur phone in fastboot mode with PC, it will automattically download drivers,, also install htc-sync

Hey guys, I just got 2 HTC Sensation 4Gs off of Craigslist, they are both still running Gingerbread. I want to root and custom rom, but I'm aware that I cannot install newer ICS+ ROMs without updateing the hboot.
My question is, is it easier to HTC Dev Unlock, root, s-off, Super CID, and THEN update the hboot. Or update the phone with the official ICS update (thus also updating the hboot) and THEN HTC Dev Unlock, root, s-off, Super CID?
I've already had experience rooting and s-off(ing) 2 ICS sensations, but don't know if I could do it easier if I don't update them first.
If it is easier to update the hboot after rooting Gingerbread, can you point me in the right direction?
Thanks.

Hi,
If you intend to s-off on GB ,then, do NOT go to HTCDEV
S-off using revolutionary.
Look HERE
Everything is listed in order.
Then, update the firmware/radio HERE , using the 3.33 Universal firmware.
Then,install custom ROM.
Thanks! Exactly what I wanted. question though, is the latest 3.33 okay to use on T-Mobile? Or is there a more T-Mobile optimised version I should use?

It is the same for all phones.

Hi,
If you intend to s-off on GB ,then, do NOT go to HTCDEV
S-off using revolutionary.
Look HERE
Everything is listed in order.
Then, update the firmware/radio HERE , using the 3.33 Universal firmware.
Then,install custom ROM.

It says enter Serial Number on Revolutionary IO. Does it mean the S/N beneath the battery or the IMEI? Both are getting accepted and I'm being given 2 different keys. I'm pretty confident that it means the S/N so that's what i'm going to try. Is that correct?

Hi,
It has been a long while since I did this.
But S/N does stand for serial number.

Okay cool. And it doesn't seem to detect my phone. I had the drivers installed already, but no matter what mode the phone is in the Revolutionary.exe isn't finding it. I'm on Windows XP
Maybe I should just update and do it the way I've done before. :-/
Maybe I need an SD in the phone?

Hi,
Yes,you need a sd card.
It is far easier to s-off with revolutionary,so it is worth the effort to find the correct drivers, and re-install them(and reboot the pc)
Also try different usb slots, and a different cable if you have one.

Okay, thanks. I'll also try doing it in Linux Mint. I'll let you know if I need more help.
But one last question. In step one it says:
1. Run the revolutionary Utility you just downloaded from http://revolutionary.io/ and if it has found your device it should read
"Found your Device: HTC Sensation Z710* Applications -> Development)
It doesn't say to plug in the phone, which is a given, or what mode it needs to be in?
THEN it says to do it again but this time plug in the phone, in normal mode, and set it to HTC sync

Hi,
Like I said, it has been a while, and I cannot remember how the thing went.
But I do remember no great difficulty following the thread .
Do you run the utility on your pc,then, plug the phone in?

No, I plug the phone in and then start the utility. It wouldn't find it though so I uninstalled and re-installed the drivers. But I can't restart my PC right now. In 90 minutes I can though. (watching a live stream with family)
I'll let you know if I get it working, whether through windows or linux.
Ugh, my PC is saying that USBcoinstaller.dll is missing. Any idea how to get it? I can't find it by searching google.
Maybe I have to download the android SDK. Didn't need to before when I rooted my ICS sensation a few months ago. But maybe I have to for gingerbread.

Hi,
As well as installing sdk, have you tried installing the latest HTCSync?
I'm trying that to. Hopefully it'll get it working.

Okay, I'm having problems. I tried following [GUIDE] (For Noobs) SDK, ADB, and Drivers and now my ADB isn't working!
I tried downloading and installing the recommended SDK zip and it wasn't giving me the files he said it would, then I installed revision 9 and 15 because it said it neded them, they ended up bringing "Platform-tools" which contains another ADB.exe, and it won't let me delete it. I tried installing the latest HTC Sync and it doesn't find my phone. It still gives me the error about USBCoInstaller.dll I am going to reboot my PC but I honestly don't know what I did or how to fix it. Everytime I start any ADB including revolutionary.exe it pops open does a TON of text for a split second and then closes again. Any Suggestions after I reboot?
Edit: actually revolutionary.exe pops open and closes quickly without displaying anything.
My brother fixed it. apparently I want thinking about the fact that HTC sync can't be installed. And the driver wasn't completely installed, which he solved as well. So we're now using revolutionary.

Hey!
As the title says, which one i take, Facepalm or Moonshine?
Ask if you need to know someting.. I'm a little lost about build numbers etc.
If you are on the latest jellybean update, (and by now that should be about everyone, that was months ago) then facepalm soff doesn't work for most. Moonshine came in and saved the day.
Moonshine can be tricky, I ran a RUU to be on the supported firmware, but It wouldn't go past step 2. Finally I put Mint Linux on an old laptop and it worked no problem.
I would guess, for most it works on windows or there would be more complaints /questions for help.

I'm terrible at helping choose which ruu.exe. I know it has to do with what CID number your phone has. I see your location says Finland.
Here are the links
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2200930
Moonshine uses the 32bit libs, I installed mint linux 64bit so I had to install the 32bit libs with it.
I would think the latest Ubuntu would work great.
Hopefully someone will see this and advise on an RUU if you don't see yours.

So i just have to find the right RUU, flash it and then follow instructors for moonshine?

Yep, and moonshine is super easy.
(when it works) lol, otherwise it just gives you an error that tells you that you are an idiot and go read the instructions again. Then you are left to break your keyboard and kick your dog wondering why it doesn't work.

Yeah the error codes in it do not help at all. I ended up putting linux on a usb and booting from it to get it to work correctly and not just stop at test 3.
