What are the best apps to have on a rooted (no roms yet) g2x? - T-Mobile LG G2x

I rooted my g2x earlier
And I have no roms because I don't know how to install them yet
But I want yup know what are the best apps for the g2x
So far I have
Titanium back up
Android booster
Bloat freezer (which I don't think it works)
Adfree
Busybox installer (which I don't know how to use)
Astro
mobile manager
Metamorph (which I really don't know how to use or get themes for it)
So if anyone has any input in what I have so far, knows how to use then correctly or has any apps that I need or works better then what I got, please help me

Titanium freezes apps so get rid of bloatfreeze. I like rootexplorer better than astro, addfree is also good for blocking adds in apps.
MEXICO U-17 WC CHAMPIONS!!

Root explorer is a fantastic app. I also use beautiful widgets and ring droid. As said before titanium backup is the best to freeze bloatware.

I installed Go Launcher and all the other Go products (most are free). It really brings the phone to life. I also Have lockscreen widget which helps simulate the cool lock-screen to camera/contacts/Music Player function the Sensation has.

Reboot widget. Much more simple than holding down power + volume down.

I use Droidwall. Simple firewall for your phone. Blocks data/wifi access to applications unless you explicitly allow it.

Any other good apps? and how fo I use metamorph? where do I get thee themes for it?

I'm going to have to second droidwall. Root call blocker is great, too.

SetCPU- CPU profile/steps changer
Cache Mate NG- cache cleaner
Root Tools- Build.prop.editor and Boot animation changer
AniMod- changes animation effects when changing menu's etc...Usually i keep all animation off so only the top task bar does the animation of flipping.
VMHeapTool- changes Heap size easily to 40 to give apps more breathing room
Spareparts- gives easy options to turn off certain settings
LG/2x Black- turns your LED buttons on and off when you recieve certain type of notifications.
SD Speed Increase- changes default SD of 46kbs to 2048-4024kbs to allow faster read and write speeds. Mileage varies depending on SD card.
+1 for adfree
+1 droidwall
+1 Go SMS
Freeze all bloatware ...only unistall non-essential programs like Tegrazone app if you don't use it.

DSPmanager -makes speaker soooooooo much louder been doing it for months no damage. Use the e q and turn em all the way up except for the first one, play with it while song is playing
APNsbackup- ur gonna need it for some roms if u like having data connection all the time.

Root Explorer and ROM Manager are MUST!
Root Explorer is one of the very best file manager and you can even backup/restore/transfer personal data on /data/data
ROM Manager is associated with clockworkmod recovery. It is another A MUST if you want to do nandroid backup and install custom ROM.
AnReboot can reset your phone if some persistent problem happens (like no signal)

Add LBE privacy guard to the list. It's handy. Use it with droidwall.

Titanium Backup free does not freeze apps.
Try Anttek App Manager. It does other stuff but I use it for freezing bloatware and it works perfectly.

Some helpful apps for those who are rooted :)

Bloat Freezer - be careful what you freeze, if you freeze an application that is running you will have to restart your phone up, but otherwise a great app for freezing apps you don't need
ES file explorer- a free version on root explorer that to me works just as well
Rom manager
SD booster
Set PCU
Sqlite editor
Light flow
If anyone else has any they want to add feel free to, just trying to help some people that may be new to this

True, I had just been used to using those apps for so long on my OG that by the time it came out I never played with it that much, a lot of people liked it though!

I did the manual method with ADB from Llinux, so no busybox with root. Had to install from the market.

Recently rooted. Thanks for the app suggestions!
Bought Rom Toolbox. It is a game changer. I easily spent two hours last night changing fonts, customizing my status bar and tweaking the wifi scan interval. I love, love, LOVE this app.

That's great to here, because I am in the process of trading my Galaxy S II for an Atrix 2. I missed Motorola too much. I was hoping there was an app to remove the carrier label from the status bar.
I could be wrong, but I don't see anything in Rom Toolbox to get rid of the AT&T wording in the status bar. But what you can do, is change all of the graphic icons (like battery, signal, wifi, just to name a few). Sometimes I would choose a rom just based on these small details! Lol. Now, I can get past that and actually choose a rom based on performance!

Thanks for clarifying. There is another app called carrier name that may do it, I assumed Rom Toolbox would do it also. If not I will do it the fun way
Has anyone running lfaber06's ROM attempted to change their CPU values with ROM Toolbox yet? I'm running his ROM/Theme with no issues as of yet. I just changed my SD Boost Value to 2048kb from 1024kb via ROM Toobox (Pro Version) and thus far, no issues as of yet... Anyone else toyed around with this app? If so what have they experimented with? I saw in an earlier post someone changed fonts and notification icons, etc. Anything else? Such as kernal tweaks, etc?

cpu usage 100 percent

my cpu usage is always on 100 percent even though when i go into the details using thr usage timeline app i find all apps to be using 0 percent except for a few at 1 or 2... whats wrong? how can i fix this?

figured it out... tge stocks app was using 85 percent of the cpu and it was hidden. .. anyone know if i can remove it safely? its got an htc id and all ... and it can only b removed through titanium backup...

If it's just the stocks app, you can move the apk from /system/app to somewhere on your sd card (for backup purposes). Any root file explorer will allow you to do this. OR, you can just freeze it with Titanium.

Truff, this man speaks it! FWIW, I'd just freeze in TiBu.
I feel like a better option would probably be to figure out WHY the stocks app is using so much CPU...when I was still on the RUU the app rarely did anything even though I put stocks into it and such. Maybe something's wrong?

Maybe syncing in the background? And if there's no connection it could be looking for one constantly.

Cm9

1) is there any app like hide it pro that works on cm9 ics!?! Hide it pro doesn't work :'(

Until it gets updated to work with ICS, the next best thing is to put a file called .nomedia in the folders in question. It doesn't hide anything from file explorers but it does hide them from galleries and other such media apps.
Unless, of course, anyone knows of alternative apps, but I've not heard of any.

I actually wanted an app hider. But not the basic one like go launcher / apex launcher has. The advanced one, which freezes it like hide it pro

I believe Titanium Backup has the ability to freeze apps, you might want to try that.

[Q] Lost phone app that can hide itself?

Is there any apps that are like "wheres my droid" but able to hide themselves from the UI "i would assume its not possible to hide it 100%" since other tools can see the process. but like just to hide it from the average user?
You could run another launcher and hide it from the app drawer that way. I'd say most people around here customize their launchers anyway.
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium
decent start, how would one go about hiding it from the built in uninstaller? if this is possible. the main concern is someone uninstalling it. the average user would just use the default installer/launcher hiding from those 2 specific thing would ensure a much higher success rate of recovery.
seekdroid, you can hide it from the website, after a reboot, it's gone, other than under uninstall. But it takes a couple steps to uninstall it.
thanks ill check it out.
works flawlessly and exactly what i needed. i sent a request asking for the hide feature to relabel the APK with a new icon and rename the process. that would ensure true stealth if the phone enters the wrong hands unless they perform a complete wipe.
Avast anti virus has the feature your looking for. Anti theft that hides itself. Its free in the play store.

How do I remove Movie Studio?

I'm basically purging all the useless applications i'll never use from a fresh install of CyanogenMod 10.1 Jellybean 4.2.2 and I can't find the .apk anywhere in the app folder. Does anyone know what the .apk is called so I can remove this garbage please?
Thanks.

Don't worry about finding the APK. You can unistall it using Titanium Backup or System Tuner or any of 100 similar apps to unistall it. In those options it will appear in the App list as Movie Studio and not whatever goofy name the APK file has.
You can also freeze it in the Manager Apps section of the settings. That won't delete it but will disable it competely.
Cool thanks. So far all i've done is go into Settings -> Launcher -> Drawer -> Hidden Apps and basically ticked that, will that do for the time being? Also, is Titanium Backup free and can I get it of the Marketplace?
Thanks.

No hiding it only removes it from the app drawer. It may still be running in the background.
There is a free version of titanium on the play store...using it you can uninstall or disable any app.
Hope that helps

That is 100% wrong. I just personally confirmed it. Disabling an app in the settings menu formally freezes it and makes it completely unable to run in any capacity until it is unfrozen.
Please don't post something as a fact unless you are certain its a fact. Posting wrong information will confuse new users and others searching for help later.

So am I alright keeping the method I used to hide it? Will that stop it from running in the background etc.? or do I still need Titanium Backup to remove it?
Thanks.
Disabling the app will render the app unusable until you re-enable the app. If you need to use the app sometimes then I would try the app greenify from the play market. Greenify simply hibernates the app.
