I have noticed that if I move an app to SD, it's widget either stops working or disappears from the widgets menu.
Is that suppose to happen?
I've noticed that a few of the apps I've downloaded or were looking at do state not to put on SD card if you want the widget to work, so I think so
That's pathetic.
As much as SD storage is flexible, it cripples the phone.

It's always been like that on every android phone I've owned.
It's normal on all android phones.
It's a big problem! Surely it can be fixed by google? Can't they save the widget on internal storage and the rest on the SD?

I feel because accessing information from the SD is slower than the internal, widgets won't be as snappy.
Yeah it sucks. I moved ScoreCenter to the SD card and the widget stopped working. Oh well.
When I say its a big problem, I meant for devices with low internal storage. 1gb on the sensation is more than enough.

This is a limitation of Android. It causes a lot of devs grief when it leads to bad reviews on the market. Sucks, and can't do anything about it.

That's part of android, did you guys download every app in the market? Can you really not afford to keep a few apps in internal storage... You have a gig of space. WTF
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA Premium App
SD Card is much slower than NAND..The App will apear much later than you boot your phone..I think NAND space is enough for everyone..So don't move it to SD Card..If you definately install too many apps, you can parition an EXT4 partition..
I'd give my left nut for a gig of internal storage. My Aria has like 150 mb and I manage. How many Widgets you guys use?

I somehow have only 2.44 gbs of internal memory free and I can't figure out how to free more up. I used my back up pro and did a factory reset and I can't figure out whats eating The memory . I don't have many apps. Any help would be awesome. Thanks

Well you may have plenty of photos and videos in there. Put in the external SD card and go to camera app options. There you should be able to choose where to save the snaps and videos.

Maybe it's leftover files from an HD game(Gameloft) they leave like 500mb or more of files behind when you uninstall them. you have to go in and delete the left over manually.

Apparently Gameloft games are so large in size they actually add weight to the phone. (500mg, joke explainer, etc.)

2.44??? Your lucky, I just checked my ''internal phone storage'' and i only have 1.28 GB
and for my phone memory, total space is 5.44gb, and available space is 4.55gb
but i also have a 32gb micro sd card.
Is it less? Like my g2x has 8 gb internal but really only has 5.5...... Is the sensation the same?
Also does game data store on that 1gb? Like the g2x and vibrant does? thanks
From what I have seen and keep hearing its actually 4 gb with 1.05(ish) available for app installation and whatnot.
yes you get the full 1gb for apps thats the left over space for you its normally 4gb but 3 of it is reserved for the system
I have currently 866MB free memory, while using 310MB for all my current apps. This means you have a total app capacity of 1176MB on your phone's internal storage.
Of course I have a 16GB MicroSD card for my music, pics, video etc.
Hope this helps!

yes becuase the g2x and sgs have a built in memory card its like a built in sd card in the phone formated and partionted a special way. But phones like the desire hd and g2 and htc sensation have a diffrent form of storage to store apps and system files. So it detects the apps partion and sd card so it will install the game data to the sd card.
i have 3 big gameloft games..and they all run from the SD.. i have to say the games run so smooth and look stunning especially modern combat 2 and asphalt 6 !
you can even put movies and music on g2x and sgs without a memory card that's mainly how you can tell if it will save the game data to phone. If it doesnt allow you to save media to internal phone then it will save it to sd card. Like the htc sensation

not necessarily...froyo builds and above already have apps to sd built in but only for certain apps that will be allowed to run off sd. if you root and use titanium backup then you could move whatever you like to sd. one downside of this that for apps that has an option for widgets will no longer be available.

This is beyond well known info. Not all games have that option.
Hence why the thread ask about the games that don't.
And can someone answer my question?
Is there bad lag when playing media from the SD?
And yes it takes longer so don't BS.

Its because the phone has internal SD that mounts as mnt/sdcard which is normally external on phones that don't have internal SD storage.
So basically, the expanded slot is mainly for files and media, correct?

yeah, but with the amount of internal storage available on these devices, i see NO benefit to moving apps to sd. that was a benefit with older phones, but it seems all the newer models coming out have ample room for app installs. apps2sd seems like a worthless hassle to me any more.
I have to use apps2sd because the Market seems to want to default all my installs to the system storage rather than what it calls the usb storage...am I missing something here? My Captivate defaulted to the internal storage and I would often move into the external sd. My Infuse loaded all apps on the external sd card. This phone seems to go to the very limited system storage options (only like 1.3 gig free). So I feel like I have no choice but to continue using APPS2SD.

What apps are you running that you need THAT much internal storage for apps?
Samsung typically leaves 2gb for internal app storage, the 16gb internal SD for media ect..
I've got well over 150 apps on my phone and haven't come close to using my internal storage.
Well, I need more than the 2GB of internal storage but not much more. Just not used to the way this phone handled app storage compared to my past phones.

Give Link2SD a try; it's fantastic and allows you to move apps, one at a time or multiples (under menu button) to the ExternalSD card (plus it allows you to do so much more, see link above). It sees the External card as it should see it, an SD card that can have apps and data on it. App2SD doesn't give you a choice to move to the ExternalSD card, it only moves from phone to InternalSD and vice versa.
Noticed today after bringing up Apps2sd that its saying i dont have an external storage or i have an emulated ext storage even with a 16gb sd card in. computer reads it fine and i would like to move my large apps to it. Any ideas please?
thanks

App does not work since ICS release. Apps must run off internal. There are workarounds but more hassle than they are worth.
Not sure why someone would even need this feature in this day and age. It was only invented to deal with shortage of space before cell phones caught up with the times.

Actual you can. One way is to go to manage apps then select an app. There you will see a move to sdcard option. The easiest way by far though is to use this handy little app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.droidsail.dsapp2sd&hl=en
You can also use it to set the SDcard as the default save location. Some apps won't play nice if installed to SD though. Meaning they take forever to load and there widgets won't work. Why you would need to do this with a phone that has 2gigs of storage is sorta beyond me. The OP must have a metric crap ton of apps. lol

The best help I can manage is a suggestion to avoid this. There is a good reason it wasn't implemented, more than one. Unless you like your apps to dramatically slow down loading times and disappear on boot, that is.

Yes, I did a bit further research and found a way, but it required making your phone think that the external SD was your internal SD, and I just thought that might be too much. Now that you say that it makes it slower, I'm going to abandon the project entirely. I have enough space on my internal SD to store my apps, and I can live with only storing media on my external. Thanks everyone!
