I believe that new Nexus S will let the google down. I had many issues with samsung products in the past, and I saw glitching stock vibrants. What you guys personally think about it?
I think Samsung wants to screw over their current customers. Then again, I am assuming they are doing this because of the leaks.
Yay, lets mix freedom and complete control and see what we get.... It's retarded and the nexus name is forever tarnished.
I would have loved to see the Nexus line stay with HTC but let's face it, they didn't do a great job with the Nexus One. Crappy digitizer and failing power buttons...
Nexus supposed to be the Android of all androids... But with samsung it will drown. I think dead buttons is nothing compare to a brick, which Nexus S will turn for sure.
Galaxy S phones failed big time. Lagging like hell and freezing. Not to mention previous samsung phones.
I could be wrong too. Lets see how Nexus S will go. Maybe samsung learned the lesson.
Do any of you guys have the phone? Did you create a thread just to bash something you haven't used? I have mine OCed to 1.4 GHz, running stable with CM7. Everything is blazing fast, as lag free as reasonably possible, and I have quadrant scoring at 3700+. Let me know when you can beat that.

Used one for 3 days before wishing the world was flat so I could throw it off the edge. Even with the "new version" the fragmentation compared to the first version of windows phone 7 is just awful. After playing with it I cant find much if any difference from 2.2. If I wanted to throw money away like that I'd buy a vibrant on craigslist for 150, add a front facing camera, then use it as toilet paper that being the most practical use for galaxy S garbage.

Actually I heard somewhere that the Nexus line is suppose to represent "pushing the Android line and what to expect from future Android phones."

Nope, happy with WP7, boy it's great to not lag on the homescreen
The Nexus S is a Samsung product that actually works. They've actually put a lot more effort in the Nexus S than they have the Galaxy S, which is sad to see on many levels. With the build of the Nexus S, and the power of hummingbird, the Nexus S is what all Galaxy S phones should have been. My Moment was a brick in terms of build, dropped it all the time but nothing went wrong with it. But the fact that it had no real hardware support for openGL, was built on 1.5 even though 1.5 didn't support CDMA, and the network issues were so far up there, I'd have to reset my phone 3 times a day! I had to send it back 2 more times and the same thing over and over! Rooting wouldn't help either! So they try to pawn the Intercept off to me as an "upgrade." A smaller resolution that most apps don't support, a slower network, and no Amoled screen? That's not an upgrade. When I had my Epic, the build quality was okay, nothing close to what my Evo is though. But I was tired of waiting for an update that should have come stock on the phone! With a phone like the Galaxy S there is no reason is should have shipped with 2.1! I'm glad Google is the one supporting the Nexus S and not Samsung, because then the Nexus S would have been stuck on 2.3 for half a year after the next Android comes out. I wouldn't mind the Nexus S, but that would be the only Samsung phone I would buy now. After 2 that had terrible support from Samsung, yeah right.

Disagree with you a little bit there. I've got a Samsung TV, and Bluray player and both are amazing. It's their phone products that aren't too great. The Nexus S like I said, is what the Galaxy S should have been.
Samsung's hardware is amazing in my opinion.. Their tv's are the best,, and we saw it on our samoled screens.. I show my phone's picture to people and they are wowed... My vibrant is nice rooted on froyo.. But stock.... It's a piece of...
Thank xda for awesome developers.
samsung's software (touch wiz) sucks..
they don't release updates or keep their word.. They piss enough people off. But people keep coming back..
The nexus is saved by google. but honestly.. The nexus one set new standards on upcoming android phones. We didn't see much competition.. The nexus s came out.. With the same hardware we saw two seasons ago.. New standards? Na I don't think so.. instead we are looking forward to dual core phones.. 4g capable phones.. And to me the nexus isnt much of a difference from what we already had.. Cmon samsung! You should have surprised us with new shzz!
Still love my Vibrant though.. Just wish it was officially on froyo, had an FFC, perhaps some 4g capability... Psh.. I WISH! -__-"
Here I agree. I have samsung tv myself, and it is good. I also had their portable audio players, but they were bad. Nexus S has no sd card slot, 16 gb isnt bad, but what about powerusers? No 3G + support, full 4G coverage is still in the far future. Processor is still the same as in previous phones. No gig of ram. Its like a tiny upgrade of nexus one, not counting 4G and front camera. Oh wait, isnt back camera is 5 megapixels?
They should stop making dozens of models, and create 1 master phone, that kicks asses.

That's sort of what they do now. They have two basis for their major phones.
Hummingbird
or
Samsung S3C6410
They've used Hummingbird in all of their high end phones, and the S3 in their mid-low end phones, and their older flagships like the Spica, the Moment. It's used now in another Galaxy phone I know(Not sure which one), I believe the Behold II has the cpu just not clocked as high, the Transform uses it, and the Intercept uses it.
I have sold my Wave S8500 and Galaxy I5800...I have learned my lesson.....No more Samsung produtcs for me.
Bad quality hardware and bad software support (updates, etc.) and bad customer service.
Google is making a huge mistake here!!
put simply...samsung hardware rocks, but samsung software blows. they really need to dump touchwiz and start from scratch...but imagine htc sense running on a galaxy s...epic win
I own both a Nexus one and a Nexus S. The NS is by far the better phone. Sure the N1 has metal and looks great it is in no way comparable to the NS. No android phone out right now compares with the NS.
I can't believe I'm not in a hurry to jump ship to the Galaxy S2. The Cappy has been such a good experience as a phone and it's still able to do whatever I need it to do. When the Fuze came out I couldn't help but be there the first day to pick one up. I was compelled to have the latest and greatest, and the abilities a new smartphone would allow. The same happened the release day of the Captivate.
Sure, it's had its issues (GPS and capped data speeds come to mind) but between the performance of hardware and the constant ROM updates from the dev community, I just don't feel that compulsion to move on from the Captivate. For me it's been a great phone and it's made me a big fan of Samsung's products. Oh I'll get a Galaxy S2 here in a month or two when the price comes down a bit. But I'm still happy with my Captivate and I'll keep it around as a backup.
ditto
i will likely wait until december unless the deal is too good to pass up.
Want to see what develops with the nexus prime.
Some info claims it will be a Verizon Exclusive but i am skeptical. I think that it is more likely we will see it launch exclusively on verizon with a 30-60 window before other carriers get it....so i am not giving up on the prime....the solid metal body construction alone will be worth the wait...just hope ATT gets it.

That is what has my attention as well...Galaxy Note.
I don't feel the need to upgrade from my Captivate either. Its a weird feeling, I use to be such a phone whore, now I look at new phones and feel they can't do a whole lot for me (personally, I know the phones are actually huge upgrades) that my Captivate can't do.
I HATE how ALL of the new phones being announced are so huge! 4.3" isn't TOO bad, but I do prefer my 4" screen. They're just getting bigger too, I want the Nexus Prime so badly, but there's no way I'm getting it with a 4.65" screen. My upgrade isn't until May 2012 and I'm questioning if there will even be a phone out there I like by then.

I'm with you guys. Once the GS II finally came out, I am not as excited. The last ROM I put on is great and until that note comes out, paying 200 for the GS2 isn't so alluring.
Especially with LTE on horizon and the Note, which will be awesome.

The article says 4.6". It may not be so bad since that probably includes the buttons at the bottom, I'll just have to see it in person, but I still think it will be a very large device.
I'm a captivate owner and I really love it. I will not change it in a while..
The only two things that I don't really like in Captivate are very bad sensitive buttons (well, I replaced screen after it was broken, and than buttons were like that) and very bad battery life, especially with MIUI
But speed and functionality are just grear. And still love the screen with maximum brightness. I think I will buy Galaxy Note or Nexus Prime, will see...
I'm with you guys, but not by choice. I have a contract to fulfil.

I just looked up the Galaxy Note. Wow...! That thing looks amazing. It might be just a bit too big but I'm really considering jumping on that.
I'm with you guys. There is no real reason to upgrade just yet. With a good custom ROM (Cog5), it does everything I ask of it, and does it quickly. The screen is just amazing, and only the SAMOLED Plus beats it, if you ask me. Since I'm not on contract, I can switch when I want, but I see nothing out there I just gotta have. The Prime may change that, but if it is CDMA, then I'm out. Big Red is too expensive for my blood.

If the Nexus S4G had the internals of the Galaxy Nexus I would keep it forever. It looks like I will be keeping it for a while longer, I don't really see any other viable options at this point.
Discuss.

Well you'll be waiting a longtime for that amazing phone with a smaller screen than what's been coming out. In case you are blind to trends, every new top of the line phone that's been coming out for the last few years, the screen size gets bigger and bigger. But don't worry, you'll fit in with the rest of the grandparents who don't stay up with the times lol. btw when I say "you" its just generally speaking for all the other people who are waiting for the next bad ass phone with a tiny screen.
Sent from my Nexus S 4g using xda premium
I have tiny hands (only 5'6") and while I agree the SGN is large it isn't unmanageable. That coupled with just how awesome this device is I would urge people not to pass it up as being too large without trying it in store first. It really is an epic device

Nothing wrong with personal preference lol. I'm fond of our current screen size too but I'm up for change unlike a lot of people here who refuse or totally **** talk a phone because of the screen size and ***** how its garbage and going to wait for the next best phone (which will just be bigger than the last lol) I think the current phones out now will be the standard size for screens 4in to 5.x in. Any larger than 6in is just not that practical.
Sent from my Nexus S 4g using xda premium
Why, hell yeah I do. Sure it's ****huge, but I can deal with it. If I had the money, I would've bought it instantly, so I'm just gonna get the next phone once it is out.
But with that said, it's completely understandable if it's too big for most people.
But now that we run ICS, I'm still completely satisfied with this Nexus S.
I tend to agree. In my opinion the form factor of the nexus s is close to perfect. If the galaxy nexus was exactly the same bit instead with a 4 in screen it would be absolutely perfect.
tapa tapa tapa
+1 to what mrhaxx1 said. ICS works very well on my Nexus S. Realistically, I can't justify forking out another $600 or more for a Galaxy Nexus right now, so the NS will do me for the foreseeable future.
As for the size of the Galaxy Nexus, although there is a sizeable minority that agrees with the OP that it's too big, for most people the added screen real estate and resolution compensate for the inconvenience when using it one-handed. I'd love a GN if I could afford one, the size wouldn't bother me although I don't have very large hands.
Whilst it's nice and powerful, I've used one for a bit in a shop and I must say I wasn't really that impressed. Maybe it was a faulty model but it was pretty laggy, and I was shocked at how dull and muddy the screen was. Nice res so it's pretty sharp, but I found that my TFT Blade was actually brighter than the Galaxy on full brightness, never mind my S-LCD Nexus S...
I have a tablet, so I typically use that for my more Internet-intensive activities. My issue isn't with how it feels in my hand, but how it feels in my pocket. The Nexus S is perfect for what I typically use my phone for, which is checking scores, phone calls, and SMS.
I have an epic touch and I like it alot. But I love a galaxy nexus. Like more than any phone ever made kind of love. Like I might move everybody to Verizon and pay 1000 dollars kind of love.

So my solution is Nexus S + ICS 4.0.3

Has anyone who has actually seen and used the phone noticed that even with the elongated screen and on-screen soft keys, that there is still enough room below the screen for Nexus-S type soft keys?

Really, this isn't a solid argument for the Galaxy Nexus over the iPhone.
Haven't played with one, but after reading some reviews, I'm disappointed in the camera. Indoor pictures aren't that great and while most phones are using 8mp, GN is still stuck at 5mp, why is that?
So far ICS is working fine on the NS4G and who knows when Sprint will get it. So, I may just wait til the next Nexus to come out (hopefully it'll come out exclusively to Sprint first, longshot though).

Had iphone 4 over a year.....loved it jailbroke it, had all types of things going on...emulators, remote control, remote access, you name it I did it...I sold it after discovering iphone 5 was not being relased in October and decided to try Android.
The HTC Sensation was a great tablet but horrible phone...I knew Droid had great potential but I needed a better phone to bring out that experience
Enter the T989....
Coming from iphone 4, I had high standards. The Galaxy S2 not only performed as well if not better on the computer side, its actually turned out to be a better telephone.
Sound quality, bluetooth connectivity, ear speaker volume...speakerphone volume
It soars!
Screen quality...is actually very good. Last but not least Pentaband phone....research what that means
I can go on and on let's just say that I'm wirelessly tethering my laptop from my GS2 at 4G speed and enjoying every minute of it
Get this phone if you haven't already...you won't be dissapointed. It delivers every benefit you're looking for in spades
Thought about buying an iPad 2. Couldn't pull the trigger because of the thought of all I would be losing out on. Got a 10.1 Tab instead. Still in awe of it. So much so I got a GS2 yesterday. As a Sensation4G owner I have to say these phones aren't in the same league. Aside from a horrible firmware upgrade experience this phone is awesome. The i* products have nothing on these. The arguments about build quality aren't valid imo. Nothing about either of these devices feels cheap. Now I know why Apple is trying to stop Samsung from selling these. I'm probably going to buy a Samsung tv in a few weeks too.

i have to say that the opinions in this thread is actually very good. They're not biased and bashing iphones like how most of these turns out.
I would like to add that most people stayed with iphone over android because of battery life, but the gs2 battery life is actually really good. With the correct settings and combination of rom and kernel, the phone will outlast an iphone 4s.
another! 4g>>>>>3g
what most people miss about the iphone when going to the gs2 is the retina display. but come on... its a freaken huge screen lol, connect your gs2 to your tv and laugh at all the iphone users! muahahha jk.. not really.
well if your on tmobile, and using iphone u are sacrifycing your 4g speeds. iphone is a great phone. its just the screen is too small. i would use iphone, but without 4g and using edge, hell no lol
by functionality, Android, and that means SGS2 is better
a ton of people i work with have switched from various iphones (including the 4s) to the sgs2 and never looked back...

i have an android phone (my first) and im enjoying it so much but i like iphone too but considering that iphone is so expensive, the glass breaks too easily and when im searching i notice that the android community its getting bigger and bigger every day so if you need something on android you have a big community to get help
but like funziebear said its all preference
Galaxy S2, mainly because it's android and you are note bound by the limits of iOS, but also because (I think) the look and feel of the phone are just better.
You should also consider the Galaxy Nexus by the way, it's imo the best phone on the market right now.
Depends on what you want
I do think that Apple products are a little easier to use for the average (non geek) person, I suspect they are designed that way. And there is something to be said for that, but Android is more powerful and more flexible. I can't think of anything the Iphone can do that the S2 can't do equally well or better, at least with the appropriate apps.
Yeah I dont bash on iPhone that's what started my whole "smartphone" experience, I just don't care for it anymore haha I'll still work on them and jailbreak for friends so I'm still western of all it's updates and features I don't care to go back

Prior to getting the S3, I had looked at the Note2 and the only downfall that I saw was that it was only 2 inches smaller than my galaxy tab 2. Felt very large when talking on it. Then again, I could have just gotten a bluetooth for calls. I think the S3 is a perfect size for what I need it for.
I want bigger too. This used to seem huge but it's normal now.

Hey I had an lg dare too! That phone was a beast at the time. I then went to an Envy touch. Then Droid X then Galaxy Nexus. I am content with the S3 now but I am considering a Nexus 7 for reading.
The S3 is perfect because I have big hands and the iPhone and most other phones are too tiny.

the good ol' enV Touch had a resistive touch screen still loved it back in the day!
It's one thing for the iPhone to be bigger finally, but with the screen not getting any WIDER, it still just feels tiny. One advantage of android's selection of phones; there's one size for everyone!!

So I started with an enV Touch..upgraded to droid x2; the 4.3 inch screen felt huge!! Especially compared to my friends' iPhones. Then I upgraded to the Galaxy S3, and once again, the screen felt huge, in a good way!
Does anyone else want to go bigger once again or am I the only one?! That is one MAJOR appeal the Note 2 has on me. Thought others might suffer from this want to always go a little bigger

My progression was a bit different, it went like this:
iPhone ATT
iPhone 3G ATT
iPhone 3GS ATT
iPhone 4 ATT
iPhone 4S VZW traded after a month or so for a
Galaxy Nexus VZW
Galaxy S3 VZW
I finally got sick of Apple not adding features that were now common place in the Android community such as a larger screen, the Nexus was an outstanding phone but I wanted larger screen with better battery life and better signal reception so I jumped to the only bigger screen available at the time, the S3, had I stuck it out with ATT I would have had the OG Note, I wanted so badly for it to come to VZW but it didn't, now that the Note 2 is on VZW I will be moving to that by the end of January!

Will definitely be considering the S4 if its announced. I will probably draw the line on size at the S4.
