Hi people, I got my desire s a few months back and it seems that it has developed a few faults.
1: the hapatic feedback on the keyboard and the capacitive buttons has gone quite weak. I have 2 work mates who also have a ds and this doesn't happen in theirs.
2: the messaging application force closes quite frequently. Tried factory reset but problem still persists.
3: the rubberised panel on the back of the phone (the one that surrounds the camera lens and flash) seems to be lifting on one side.
Has anyone else encountered these issues?

No one else experienced these issues? Sorry to bump but need to know if it is a problem or a setting I'm not understanding correctly.

I wish i could help you, but my phone is pretty new.. have like 1 month, and i dont have any of the issues you mentioned.. so i cant tell.
The only fault I have experienced is the Messaging app forcing to close a lot. That's why I want a custom ROM ASAP!
I have also noticed that the text messages do not appear in order when looking at a thread of a certain contact.

I have a strange problem. Occasionally my phone will refuse to let me type a letter. It generally happens towards the bottom right of the screen. However that isn't always the case. For instance I wanted to press the letter N today but it refused to let me. It would press every key around it but it wouldn't press N unless I tried multiple times. I have a screen protector on if that makes a difference. It really is annoying. Is my screen possibly defective?

Sometimes this happens to me when gunk and dirt build up on the screen. Usually I just take my shirt and wipe it off real good and it works like it's supposed to.

Alrighty. I'll give it a shot. Thanks.

Could also be something under the screen protector messing with the capacitance. Maybe a small air bubble that gets pushed out of the way when you repeatedly try tapping there. Just a thought. If it's not a hassle, I would try using the thing for a day sans protector and see if the issue replicates. If anything. it will eliminate the screen protector as a possible source of the problem. I'd gather, if you aren't rooted and running a custom ROM and the problem still exists in the absence of a screen protector, it is a manufacturing defect.

I am having the same problem and have had little gremlins like this come up. My phone is rooted by the way so if it is a manufacturing defect then I guess I am up the creek (voided warranty). It is annoying to say the least my t, y g h and v and b keys react as if they were not on the keyboard at all. Luckily the word recognition helps out but its frustrating. I have had more problems with this android phone than I ever had with my windows HD2. I miss that phone...no worries ever.
I would really advise you to exchange your phone for a new one if you are having problems with the touch screen this early on. Manufacturing defects like that don't go away and can only get worse. You can still return/exchange your phone if you are rooted, you just have to return it to stock before you do so.
This has been happening to myself and several others, and there have been a few touchscreen problem-related threads on here and other forums. the letters I can't type are fairly random but it usually seems to be t, s, and some vowels. it's either a software or hardware issue, since it is completely random and the problem fixes itself when you begin typing another word.
you can also try pressing the letter with your whole finger instead of the tip. it seems to work more often than pressing the letter 20 times before you flip out.
Anyone with this problem, is the touchscreen ever not responsive with anything else?

I thought about exchanging it but after reading all the issues other people have with replacement phones (or their first, even), I'm not sure I want to take the chance especially if it's a software issue.
Happens to me to, I am rooted and running a custom rom. It's a problem with the HTC keyboard. If it happens just hit the back button then bring the keyboard back up. Or install a new keyboard from the market like Better Keyboard.

Not true, had this problem on my Fascinate before the Thunderbolt.
Something stupid to check, do you have wavelauncher installed? That was giving me fits for awhile before i figured it out. anything by the bottom of the screen just wouldnt work.
Hi All,
As I've previously mentioned in the first impressions thread we have a persistent issue with our ChaCha that has been present on the two devices we have had and has not been fixed by the 1.18 update.
After pressing the SYM key to bring up the symbols\smilies whatever symbol that is highlighted blue persists on the screen after selected. This can usually be cleared away by tapping around the screen or exiting the SMS\Talk app but occasionally it persists, needing a reboot to clear.
Has anyone else seen this? I initially thought it was an issue with the first device alone, but now it is happening with the second device, and after the update, surely others must be seeing this also?
No one?

in my chacha everything work normal, no issue.
My chacha takes me to the very first SMS of a contact frequently while typing a reply.
Very frustrating if you have to go all the way down among 300+ SMS in a conversation. But going to home screen and then back to the SMS is ok since the message its saved as draft either way.
This happens almost every time i want to reply to someone.
Gave up in the end. Issue kept occurring, also had a problem with the camera not starting and needing a reboot. Carphone warehouse were really good about it so swapped for a desire s.
Hope no-one else has issues as its a great phone without the bugs!

I've had the symbol box stick on screen once so far (had the phone 3 days) but it went away pretty quickly afterwards. Certainly doesn't seem to be anything I'd be too worried about.

The trouble we had was that every once in a while it wouldn't disappear, reboot would be needed.this started happening more frequently. This, along with the
Camera force closing and then not working until a reboot, made it feel like a flawed device. Shame as we loved the design, look and feel of the phone.

no problem with my set so far.

I believe it's a bug, no issues after changing to use Handcent SMS...

Is this issue present in all or common in Chaha phones?
So I'm guessing this SMS jumping to the top problem is isolated or rare by the lack of replies.. Right? That's a good news! Right?
Need help please! I'm experiencing random deadspots on the touchscreen of my Desire S. But the thing is this "Dead zone" seems to show only on the keyboard when I'm typing. When I press a key , it doesn't respond no matter how hard I press it. This mostly occur on the letter "A" and "N" on the keyboard.
I don't know if this is hardware or a software issue because Locking the phone and immediately unlocking it solves the problem. After waking the phone again, the so called dead zones are gone.
Btw, I mostly experience this issue when using Virtuous 2.37 and MIUI rom. CM7 didn't gave me this problem, so is it possible that this is just a rom related issue? thanks!
I have been experiencing the exact same thing. Except it is always on 2 letter keys that are next to each other. It has only done it a handful of times, but I'm worried incase its a hardware issue.
Anyone got any ideas?

Which keyboard do you both use?
If by chance it's the same one I think that you're answered your question.
Try changing keyboard set if it still happens

i had this problem when using swiftkey x, when it was hppening it was keys a and s not responding so i switched to the stock htc keyboard. the keys then moved to c and v...
very odd
I already tried different keyboards, Swift, Android keyboard, Gingerbread, Perfect keyboard and now touchpal.
I encounter this problem only for two keys, letter "A" and "N" .. I have no idea if this is a hardware issue, But i remembered that it never happened to me while using CM7 rom.

i wish some1 knew if this is a hardware issue or not... the most annoying thing is that its intermittant. i have only have it happen a total of 5 or 6 times in the last 2 months. it lasts for a few minutes then goes back to normal
Having dissassembled the phone many times.. me thinks it is not hardware. If it was it would be persistent. Try this and report back: download nicky paint from market and try to paint the whole screen with the brush. Failure of the touch screen connector (which causes dead spots) appears in horizontal 1 cm zones in the whole width of the screen

I've downloaded an app called touch test. I think this does the same thing. I wonder why it keeps happening though. It's really annoying not being able to trace it to a particular cause.

Try Flashing This..
Flash it (Keyboard_Flashable.zip) If You like the original htc keyboard without arrows..
May be the prob is with ur ROM..
I wish there was some definite way to tell if it's a hardware fault or not. With me it's always 2 keys that are next to each other. Done it about 3 times now. 1st it was letters a and s. Then g and h. Then then yesterday x and c.

I've the same problem on htc incredible S.
I can't type alpabet "P" or "0".
I tested with pointer location & show touches from dev option.
Clearly I can't move my touch about 1 cm along the right margin of touch screen. take a look below.
I've tried on other roms.but it happens the same problem.
already on other keyboards but no luck.
Have u fixed that..?? pls
I have the same problem when I was using Reaper and Fallout ROM with swiftKey but with Endymion the problem stops.
I used to have this exact same problem on gb roms using swiftkey. Never had it since.using ics with stick kb

Hello all,
Today I received my Nexus S, it was a demo model but it looked perfectly fine and I got it cheap.
Now while installing the phone it was doing some weird stuff but I thought well, maybe I'm touching the softkeys. But now sometimes the phone behaves like there are all types of softkeys being touched without touching the phone at all. The phone also vibrates like the softkeys are being touched.
Maybe someone knows this issue and knows how to resolve it?
The phone is still running 2.3
Thanks in advance
Can be closed, send the Phone to retailer and it has been replaced with a new one.
Still dont know what the problem was but I'm satisfied with the solution.

So, I was listening to Google Music, playing Words With Friends, and all of a sudden my phone's screen went a little crazy. Wish I could have grabbed a screen shot, but the best I can describe it as is it got "blurry" or "fuzzy" looking. I was able to click and go to other apps, but the screen was still not right. I managed to reboot the phone and it was back to normal.
Has anyone else experienced this? My first instinct is to take it back to AT&t and try to get a replacement, but I don't want to take any drastic action if this is something that is already a known issue (thought I couldn't find any posts about it) and might be fixed in an update, or if it could have just been a fluke...
What would you guys do? Everything else about the phone is fine (working wi-fi, no light bleed, etc.) so i'd hate to get a replacement that has issues, but at the same time if i'm going to keep getting this issue every so often, I'd rather replace it...hmmm, what to do???
I would try getting a replacement but good luck getting one with the current apple law suit.

had a similar "screen" experience when i tried to use Ivona Voice for TTS. when i selected Ivona Voice as my TTS option, the screen would move up and down like i was scrolling up and down. i removed and reinstalled the app only to see the same behavior. i removed the app and have not had any screen issues since then.
fyi, my phone is rooted and i'm using the 1.82 RUU.
I get the odd graphical glitch using the stock keyboard. Pretty random sometimes

I think I'm going to try and exchange it. No sense settling for a phone that might be defective.

I noticed after using the camera on the black and white setting, gTalk was stuck in black and white until I quit and restarted it. It only happened once and I've been unable to duplicate it.
I'm wondering if this might actually be a problem with android 4 and sense 4. I have noticed the weird graphical issues but have never been able to duplicate them. I came from the HTC evo 3d and was rooted running newts HTC one port. On that phone I was having the same issues. Screen flashing randomly while texting and a couple other weird things. Just a thought to chew on

This is 99% likely not a phone issue and is software related. Too many people immediately returning phones without thinking or investigating. This may be free to do and is your right to do but it just drives up costs for everyone in the long run. Just my two cents.
Edit: sorry, I know you are trying to investigate now...I'm mainly referring to the peeps that always instinctively recommend exchanges.
