[Q] How to get root? (Alpharevx) - HTC Desire S

Hi. i used Alpharevx, but i had no internet so i could not use the recovery option. so how do i get root now? i tried to download it and change name to update.zip and flashed from recovery but didn't work thanks in advance

To achieve root you should run Gingerbreak 1.2 (if s-off worked)
It will say that its not sure if it worked and that you have to reboot yourself, but thats normal.
To get clockwork recovery you can install rom manager from the android market and flash it through that.

I tried with gingerbreak and the phone reboot after. No msg?
After that I tried to download Rom manager from market but doesn't work to install.
But I tried another program that needs root and it says I don't got root :S

We got the same problem. Uses Gingerbreak 1.2 restarts then nothing happens. At the same time after I S-OFF It feels like I lost signal

there is a free market app called root checker that will confirm whether you have root.

Evo Shift Root Exploit and Development Thread

Please place all of your discussions about obtaining root on the Evo Shift here.
Temp root:Temporary root can be acheived a number of ways on the shift the easiest being either z4root app or the visionary plus root app.
Z4root:
download here and install as you would any other apk
open the app and hit temporary root
let it run till you are notified of its success
you now have temporary root!!
*Note you have to reapply z4 each time you reboot your phone
Visionary:
full instructions and the link to visionary can be found here. http://android.modaco.com/content/h...m/320722/19-nov-r14-visionary-one-click-root/
IMPORTANT NOTE!
PLEASE DO NOT ACCEPT ANY OTA UPDATES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
they patched the root exploit on the desire z when they updated you can most definitely expect them to do the same for the shift so please for that sake of everybody being able to get proper root do not accept any updates unless further notified!!!
unless you just dont care about root that is.....
so far, we got a temporary root.
No point in trying unrevoked as it scans for the device name and shows
"sorry, the device 'speedy' is not suppored" (paraphrasing)
wish i knew alittle more about this.
You can get to hboot by Holding down the vol down while powering on
Also in a previous thread bubby323 requested a dump of /system and dnalevelc obliged:
* http://www.digglesworth.net/evoshift/system.7z
In another forum (androidcentral) someone noted that an app called VISIONary works to auto temp-root the Shift upon boot.
* http://android.modaco.com/content/h...m/320722/19-nov-r14-visionary-one-click-root/
Edit: Also there's code to temp root the G2 using a different exploit below. I haven't attempted to run it on my Shift. Possibly not relevant since it has a newer version but could be if an update is pushed to the Shift:
* https://github.com/tmzt/g2root-kmod/tree/scotty2/scotty2/psneuter
got the shift today. MAN this thing is fast! i'd love to see unrevoked release a small update that supports the shift. otherwise i can do it the long way but i can't wait to see the scores once i get a custom ROM on it.
Visonary does work, I turned on temproot on boot and then i pressed temproot now and it rebooted the phone. The phone was either taking its time or got stuck on the 4G for 2-3 mins so I pulled the battery and started the phone up again. I installed connectbot and typed su and got a #. Tried the reboot command and it wouldn't let me so I went into root explorer and it prompted the su app, gave it permission and started hacking away at bloatware..... no luck, it still came back from the grave :\
I successfully Temp rooted with z4root (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833953) and I couldnt get the download off the market so I just went to 4shared.com and searched z4root and picked up 1.3.0 which is the latest version....
It worked great and I used Titanium back up and a screen shot app that both needed root.
does anyone think the rageagainstthecage exploit will work on this? i assume people are working on it? cause if it does, that means unrevoked3 could possibly release a new version with shift support, right? since unrevoked is just an automated rageagainstthecage, right?
edit: i mean, for permanent root, S-OFF.

Z4Root temp root was a success but SU is telling me to upgrade by going into recovery, How do I go about this? I can't get any permissions for Rom Manager, Titanium, BusyBox, Etc...

Nevermind, figured it out. I accidentally rebooted, therefore, I lost root...

yes, the rage exploit is what works and is what z4root uses. However I couldn't get the actual binary to work from the CLI using adb.
Just curious--with this temp root, will the wireless tether app work? At least until the phone is restarted. I use that app quite a bit with my Hero, to get on the sites blocked at work on my ipad

Yes we finally got a forum
But on to the good stuff and not so good stuff
Even though we only have temp root partitions on the shift can be flashed using dd I won't go into exactly how to do it till I get home because the commands have to be EXACT!!!! Or u risk bricking your phone... I've had to ruu a couple times now
O btw the ruu that was previously leaked appears to be exactly what was released on the shift.

HELP! Missing Android Market!

I perm-rooted my MyTouch 4G using Visionary Plus R14 and everything went smoothly until I tried flashing CyanogenMod 7.0.3 Stable Mod and the Google Apps, I did everything manually and it said that both of them installed and so I rebooted the phone. When the phone finally rebooted, the MyTouch 4G booted up as if it just recieved a factory rest. I just went along with it and set everything up and it seemed as if the installation failed or something, but once everything got set up, Visionary, the Rom Manager, Superuser, and my file manager (Astro), was all missing. I decided to try and root it again but when I tried to go download the file manager again, I couldn't find the Android Market. I did a factory reset 3 times and it still wouldn't pop up. What happened to it and what do I do to fix it??
Sometimes the visionary method doesn't stick...there have been alot of issues with that lately. Have you booted up into Hboot to see if you have s=off? If the visionary method didn't work, I recommend using the g-free method to root it. All of this information can be found under the HTC Glacier (MT4G) forums.

i´m not fully understand but i want to ask to you if you do FACT. RESET before flashing the rom or after...
correct mode is before because u are going to lose gapps if do it after flashing cianogenmod...
and of course when you flashes another rom you´re going to lose all your old apk´s... you need to reinstall it...
maybe i´m not understanded you.. if its like this sorry... if not well
Download Market.apk and install it. you can google it or you can check out the link in your private inbox

Yes, I did do hboot and it did say S-Off. And I never heard of the g-free method, I'll look that up and try to root it that way. Thanks!
Did you flash Clockwork Mod with ROM manager? Did you wipe before flashing? If it says S=off, you should be good to go, and you should consider flashing the engineering bootloader.

Yepp, I flashed Clockwork Mod. I did everything in the how to Temp Root the MyTouch 4G video, How to Perm Root the MyTouch 4G video and the how to Flash a custom rom to the MyTouch 4G video from the unlockr.
Here is a cool transparent one if you want it. Just install it with a file manager.

[Q] Stuck on Running exploit

i was able to s off mine using alpharevx but when i try to run gingerbreak i was stuck on running exploit for about 30 mins.. any tips on how am i be able to achieve root?
If it said something along the lines of it 'wasn't sure it worked' it should be ok and did work .Mine done that but phone was still rooted
Gosh... Just my luck... have managed to s-off, now stuck on gingerbreak as op.
had the same, but you can flash SU from the recovery now, so why bother with ginger break?
Same here, but when I formated the SD card and run the process again my phone was successfuly rooted

Do I need cwm for that? See, I've chosen 'n' at the end of s-offing process, as I am not planning any rom changes.
Try version 1.1 worked for me

My phone was done by hardware cycle clip a couple of months ago, first experience with Ginberbreak was confusing but it does work. First turn on debug mode, second turn off fast boot in power menu cos you'll need to fully reboot after the gingerbreak error.....
So run gingerbreak and after the SD card can be removed safely indicating the sdcard is now unmounted, then wait a couple of minutes and give the screen a few swipe another message error that it didn't work telling you to check for superuser in the app drawer. Do check if superuser is installed then you're rooted but no use without SD card access, now just reboot fully and check that sdcard is mounted then go to market download Rom manager and flash clockworkmod.
If no further luck then refer to loveboatcaptain's unsecured boot image might be easier stickied thread.

Root Problem SuperOneClick

Hello,
I've got a Skyrocket i727 and am stuck on the psneuter part when trying to root. I'm sorry for posting here since I'm sure the answers lie somewhere, but I've been researching since yesterday and haven't found it. I'm on a satellite internet connection that is pretttty slow.
Anyways, so I have the drivers installed, and then run SuperOneClick as Admin on windows 7. I click root and it runs until psneuter then appears to be stuck. It freezes there. When I close the black command screen that has opened it suggests I turn off debugging mode. When I try to close debugging mode it just stays at Waiting for Device...
So, what am I missing?
Thanks so much in advance.
SuperOneClick didn't work on mine because it had updated to 2.3.6 from 2.3.5...Which one do you have?
You need to use this method if your on android 2.3.6

So, I've done some reading about CWM and am still not quite sure what it is. Does it replace my current setup? Do I lose my stuff?
Edit: for anyone else following this topic I found this info about cwm:
http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile...-and-how-to-use-it-on-android-complete-guide/
Is it possible to do this without having an external sd card?
Must have external SD. CWM is an aftermarket recovery that replaces your stock recovery. It allows you to flash roms, make nandroid backups restore nandroid backups ect.....

I had this issue over the weekend. Go out to samsungs site and find the kids drivers. In the superclick in the "exploit" switch to zergrush, click root. It should say do you want to install drivers, click yes and it shouldn't take more then 10 minutes.

Unrevoked3 Firmware too new error

I have an HTC EVO 4G phone which I am trying to root using revoked3, unfortunately with no success. I keep getting the unable to root. Firmware is too new error. I have read dozens of posts on this topic and have tried all of the suggestions from changing my PC connection from charge only to data disk, installing HTC Sync and uninstallng it, I have the proper drivers installed, have USB debugging checked etc. I have unstalled all apps and even factory reset my phone with no luck.
Does anyone have any idea on what I am missing.
Thanks a bunch.
