Yesterday my girlfriend received a txt msg, and I noticed her trackbal on the HTC Hero was glowing.
I remember back in the days someone made a cab that when ever your HD2 screen is on, the button backlight stays on (doesn't go black after 7 sec).
Now my question is, is there a app what lights up the button backlights as notification??
The small notification light sucks on the HD2.
Thx.

I would also be interested in something like this...

Im mos def in!
When I get back home, I'ma try contacting the dev of the previous app, to see if he can make something like this... Or help us out a bit.
Great idea indeed. +1 from me here also.
great idea whould be so nice if aassigned to the mid button or end call button..
Great idea - notifications were so much easier to see on my old touch diamond when the circular pad used to light up around the edge. Hope this one can be done.
It would be nice but I'm almost sure we can just make glow the 5 buttons in the same time (not individually).
try best reminder , you can find it for free, it sounds when you have one unreaded sms or one missed calls and unread mails, you can change the seconds to sound, i have it a long ago since i had omnia i...., is exellent

Ok I've contacted NetRipper.
His big concern was battery life.
I told him people installing these apps are aware that it may infect the battery life.
He is going to make a proof of consept...
ETA etc.. Dunno, he gonna contact me when he has something.
So please don't spam him! The app is on the way.
Light talk about notification ..
still no solution for some HD 2 with new mail notification light. However strange that sms etc.. does, and not mail.
Good idea, xmoo.
The LEDs for the buttons wouldn't have to be illuminated for very long at all. In fact a quick double or triple strobe every few seconds would be enough to alert the user. That would have a minimal effect on battery life.

Yeah, the Diamond notification lights would light up every few seconds, not all the time.Besides, I'm running the continuous keypad illumination app on my HD2, and i'm more than happy with battery life.

The problem is, getting the LEDS to work is no deal. But getting the LEDS to work, the device needs to come out of standby (but with LCD off tho, just like playing music).
And that in the Longterm can eat some battery. But then again, when were notified we directly gonna check it.. at least I am

Yeah but i think the big issue about the battery life is enlighting the screen. When its stays off, its not using power. I don't think such an app will take more battery than the current top-led status listener.

First tests seem to indicate battery drainage is fair. A small test indicates that the device in unattended mode only takes about 3% battery life in 2 hours (100% -> 97%). The keypad lights have been blinking every 3 seconds during this time.
If I have something ready to test massively, I'll let you guys know.
No notification light?
Ok wtf...
Not even a running charge indicator, no notification light? I mean it was so awesome on the nexus one and most every other android device with some form of glowing indicator light...
Now i dont know if a message or anything is waiting i have to keep turning on the phone. What a pain... Cant put a led in there somewhere?
Or is my phone screwed up?
Also, on two phone calls tonight the phone shut down and restarted...............

I dont have a NS yet...I have been reading the boards and trying to decide if I want one but I have a Fascinate and since its been rooted and debinged its a good phone but stock it was crap. I use something called BLN to notify me when I have a text or email. It lights up your buttons at the bottom. Its in the market but I think your rom has to be made to use it..I'm not sure about that but you might want to investigate that...it works better than NoLED.
I have no led running now. It works. I have it set to blink So it flashes the TV off animation which is cool.
Honestly. If You already have a galaxy s phone don't bother with the ns. I had my n1 since the day it came out I needed a new phone. There are many things ivwill miss about it. Like the desktop doc.....
More threads about this? Really? Can we have a mod lock this please...

Best buy couldn't get my upgrade info so I paid full pop. Was on phone with t mobile and bestbuys system couldn't get it happening so I can still get another phone suplimented. Tried a mytouch 4g but returned it. So much t-mobile garbage on it plus gotta pay for wifi teather
BLN ftw, wait for a kernel that implements BackLightNotifications and then download Blinky which makes your softkey's blink ever few seconds when you get notifications.
So awesome. 3 out of 4 calls ended with the phone restarting
Sounds you guys are having even more trouble than Galaxy S phones, I hope it gets sorted out soon.
I can deal with a dropped call but having the phone restart wtf.... I may un install everything and go from there adding one app at a time
When the phone is off if you click the power button it will show you if you phone is still charging or not

Left hole (circle) is the proximity sensor. Right hole (oval kinda) is the ambient light sensor. Hope this helps.
Does this phone even have a led notification light? thats the dots next to the earpiece right?
I ask because on my phone, i never get any LED flashing notifications when i receive a text, email, miss phone call, or etc.
Ive searched all throughout my settings but to no avail.. help?
Thats not an LED. It doesnt have one! Search. Its been discussed over and over again
Does anyone elses LED stop blinking for notifications shortly after it starts? I was hoping it would continue to blink until i check the message or what not.
Yep. Not sure why but it seems hit or miss on the LED.

is there anyway to bake this into the a ROM? It would really be nice to have it continue to blink so i dont have to turn my screen on in order to see if i have a missed message/call/etc

Yeah it's a little baffling how they setup the LED notifs, I'm hoping someone will fix/update/change that quickly. I've had the phone for two weeks and I still an not sure which blinking LED means what specifically.
Sire note, I'm also getting random vibrates which happen with no notifs at all and it's a little worrisome from a "what in the hell is the phone doing" standpoint but overall I love this phone.

Glad to see this is a sought after feature. Maybe I'll work with some devs and see what can happen.
I don't think we can ..... anyone know different? Maybe when there is the keyboard dock, does anyone have that yet?

good call, but I'm hoping for real led, like what I have gotten used to on the desire. its probably won't matter as I can't put the thing down.

Little O/T but after switching from N1 to NS, the lack of LED notifications was a bit wierd. BUT noLED is great and I actually prefer it over the LED blinking now.

NoLED wouldn't be good for the Transformer. NoLED was designed around OLED devices, that can have most of the screen off, and only a few pixels on at a time, with very little battery drain.
An LCD on the other hand, would be fully on, and drain the battery like crazy.
I quite liked the vertically long LED on the Xoom. Not something I'll particularly miss, but it felt rather familiar.
This doesn't seem like much of a problem to me really. My N1 makes a noise/LED lights for a notification, I pick up the tablet and check it. I have a different notification tone for both text messages and general notifications, so this system works well for me.
Perhaps when the dock gets released, we can repurpose the caps lock LED to be a notifications LED... I'm not sure how well that would work, or even if it would be neccessary?
It lacks brightness and is hidden behind the speaker grill, I can barely see it light up most of the time. What a waste.
It is duller than I'd like but unless it is in direct sunlight, I have no problem seeing it. I wish it wads a little brighter though.
At least is has one. A lot of android phones don't.
I want to know if anyone has figured out how to make it stay on longer than 5 minutes

Green has been HTC's standard notification color since the g1 first came out. Once the device is rooted you'll be able to use LED color changing apps.
I was wondering, there is another whole on the opposite side of the front reading facing camera and the notification led. I wonder why htc put that there it seems to have no purpose. That probably could have been a nice place to put the notification led.

It's most likely the ambient light sensor, or the motion sensor that shuts the screen off when you place the phone by your face.

If rooting will allow me to change the LED to something a little more noticeable (red might work well I would think), that might be ideal.
So far, the green barely stands out, especially since my desk is next to a window with ambient sunlight.

I believe that we only have 2 colors to choose from, the green and the abmer, the one that comes up when charging phone. I always had the amber on my HD2 and it was always visible. Hope we could do the same on this phone later.

The LED light can actually produce multiple colors but like someone said. It's not possible until it's rooted unless the application your using gives you the option.

If you use a 3rd part text messaging application like Chomp or Hancent it gives you the option to make your LED multiple colors plus the option of how long you want it to stay on.

I hope this isn't the case. The Thunderbolt can do Red, Green, Pink, Blue and White.
i like having a notification led, as opposed to the Vibrant, which didn't have one. I just wish it lasted longer than 5 minutes.
There is an app for the g2x that pulses the four bottom buttons for notifications. its pretty spiffy...i wrote the developer he said it's possible it could work on the sensation but he doesn't have one to try it out.
It would be a pretty nice option to have because I agree, the led as is is pretty much invisible
