Notification LED on Desire S / Blink duration - HTC Desire S

that's my problem:
i got a desire s and realized the notification led only blinks about 5 minutes after missed calls or new messages.
then it stops.
apps like light flow, missed reminder, easy reminder, all together don't work well or don't work at all!
it must be possible to find an app to extend the blinking of the led to infinite!?
the colour of the led is not significant in this case, green would be enough.
i have no root and s-on.
i heard it would be possible to extend the blinking with "light flow" , but only with root access.
can you help me to find a good solution without rooting? on my old desire it worked very well without root! so my new desire s should do it as well....

First, POST QUESTIONS IN THE GENERAL SECTION.
Secondly, I've not paid much attention, but i'm pretty sure mine doesn't stop until i check my phone.

sorry for the post!
but maybe it's because i use stock rom and no custom rom?
the problem with the led notification für 5min should be relevant for every stock rom... for sure.

I checked, and the problem is there in the ROM i'm using. Just never noticed it.............. It doesn't really bother me, not that big an issue. I can live with this, cuz i'll see the notification as soon as i open the phone.

I have this "problem" as well, the time is too short, but if it's infinite it would drain the battery even faster, which isn't wat we want either..

I think that's why HTC made it short in the first place.

yes.... to stop the notification after 5 min to save battery makes no sense.
...that's the reasen why the led blinks infinite in orange when the battery is low?
i think that htc did't really get the meaning of a notification led!

any news?...
can't be spoken the last word..

Post the Problem to HTC and hope for changing with next update!

Why dont you try the app called "Missed reminder"
It's free on the market.
***Ignore this post- I never read first post properly****

cause missed reminder doesn't work.
there's no app for the desire s that works so far, i think!

Hi,
The app Light Flow works, but you need root.

Also phoneAlarm works as it is supposed to. This being said on a rooted Desire S and you have to pay about 2 US dollars for the full version.

Is this any app to change led light?

title says it all thanks
i dont think the hero supports many colors like the G1. i have tried SMSpopup and chompSMS, both have the option, but neither work.
that sucks i hope is has them i dont see why htc would take them out
in order for an LED to have different colors, it has to have different colored diodes within it. No app will magically add another colored diode in the LED
yea i know but the hero might have them but no apps have support yet idk

The Hero only has orange and green. It was confirmed with a conversation with HTC
oh thats dumb
What about an app to make it blink for longer then 5 minutes when you miss something?
i dont know any i want to start making apps someone how do you make them?
Maybe an app that can make it blink back and forth between the 2 colors...My Nextel Motorola ic902 used to flash between the 2 colors...Something like that would be nice..
yea i need to figure out how to make apps that would be nice

Well you should have the SDK from when you rooted. I'd say thats the first step.
anyone?...
if you have to ask, no offense, you probably arent a sufficient programmer, plenty of guides on setting up and using java/android SDK, also probably a ton of sample code around too... you have to setup java/eclipse/android_sdk...
no i am just woundering if there is any apps out??

Any Application that allows the upper right light notification? See the screen shot

Hi Guys
You know when you plug your phone to charger or to USB there is an orange light on the upper right corner of the screen.
Is there any way to modify this, so that new mail, new sms or any notification that we choose makes this light blink? (Like blackberry style or trackball LED style)
See the screen shot

He's not asking about the trackball... he's asking about the one in the upper right of the screen....
But.. just curious... why don't you just want the trackball to blink? It's brighter and easier to see.

I'm still curious about hacking the LED in the upper right of the screen...
Try Missed Call.
App was make for rooted devices, N1 led don't flash different colors, if it has been rooted when the charger or usb is plugged the led flashes the assign colors. Always flash is the app. ONLY WORKS FOR ROOTED PHONES.

This guy knows what he is talking about.
He just mis-worded it, well it could work either way actually. App developers cannot make the LED (top left one) blink at all - and they also cannot control the color of trackball flash unless rooted.
It seems though, if you are charging the phone - and use an app like Missed Call, or Hancent SMS, the color of the LED does change.. but only when charging..
It is like Google completely disabled the LED unless the phone is being charged, other than that it is entirely off with no way to be accessed. I'm sure someone will find a loophole around this eventually I guess ~.~

Agreed. I need something for email also. That trackball changer works only for sms/mms.
In the Desire-ROM (HTC Sense) that has been leaked and now is available to Nexus 1-owners, the LED can be controlled just as the original post asked for. Works here, right now.
Just saying, no nothing is "stopped" when it comes to controlling the LED. It's just that no one has put any time into yet IMHO.

I need to ask.. for those of you that do like the HW LED, doesn't it distract you in any way especially in the evening/nights/dark????
I never understood why SE designers came up with this OR for that matter what was the true intention of these LED's.
On another matter, shouldn't this thread be part of the General sub-forum instead of this Dev area?
Thanks for this info nevertheless.

hahaha ...same here... this app did the leftover part..!!
This app is very good for lowering your brightness when you are in the dark,
because the default lowest setting is still very bright for a little-to-no-light enviroment.
But it has to run constantly in the background and uses a lot of CPU,
so I don't think it is wise to be used as a HW LED disabler.
But if you are in the movies and want to check your messages
without people next to you whining about blinding them with your screen, it's superb!

I think that they include it so like if u get a notification, message, text what ever u can just tell by the LED u dont have to slide to unlock it. just seems simpler, faster and easier, could b wrong but
Please tell me how tu disable this LEDs wiht this program, a don't see this option ?
Enable / disable soft-key backlight - no effect on my stock 2.1 Xperia X10 (2.1.A.0.435 + Arc Theme)
Edit:
I read somewhere that it works only on Android 2.2+ ... it's true ?
I like them as an accent piece. They don't bother me and the couple of times my phone has frozen their continued on status was a quick heads up without waiting too long.
Plus I don't pull my phone out in the theatre!
thanks for this, great app
Is there a way to make this app start on phone boot? If there is, could you tell me a "dummy-way" to do it?

Light Flow updated to work with the USA version of the SGS3.. if your rooted

Been following the dev over on his blog that makes Light Flow. When the USA version of the SGS3 came out, it busted Light Fow (you can read the blog for full details). He just pushed version 3.0.5 to the market that for root users, should work all except flashing LED (except for red, blue). So, if your not rooted, it still will not work.
YAY great news!
Just saw this in the play store ha've you tried it yet?

Yea, its a bit glitchy still. I wouldnt say its fixed 100% yet. But its usable for text messages and missed calls etc.

using it now. done several tests and all has worked so far for me. my colors are showing correct. my notifications are all firing. it cycles through multiple notifications (like when you get a MMS, email and missed call) from the tests I have done. I had some initial issues (lag) when I first installed it, but all seems fine now.
before it was 100% unusable, you can read why in the blog, now it is like 98% usable. The big bummer is that only like red and blue can flash, every other color has to be solid. But the dev claims with LED, this has minimal to no battery effect - which I kind of find hard to believe.
So I guess we get to talk about this in quadruplicate in each one of the carrier forums?
I hope Samsung gets around to explaining the non-stardard notification system they decided to use in the US version.
Anyhow, seems to be working fairly well for me. The one thing I noticed is that, with some notifications, it initially comes on as a different color than chosen in light flow, but then a split second later, the light flow color comes on and stays.
Is it first using the color baked in to the app and then light flow is taking over quickly after that? Anyone else noticed that? Any way to have that not happen (though it's not in a big deal).

Yes I now admit I have seen this glitch also but I had not yet determined if it is as you say it or if it was firing the last color used then firing your desired color. I think your logic is the issue.

Make sure you switch off all the "led indicators" in the phone settings otherwise it'll be fighting against the default notifications.

Do you mean the 3 items I have indeed led indicators in phone settings or should I also go into each app that i have light flow notifications set up for and disable any options for led notifications that each app might have?

I only did the 3 led indicator items in phone settings, I did not go into each individual app and turn off notifications and so I have no redundant notifications. We give Light Flow the power to take over those notifications.

I figured out how to get rid of the green light staying on. Even though you grant light flow root access you need to check the box that asks for root access in the app as well.

It's not by choice. Getting the LED to blink with consistency was a major challenge. So the blinking was removed (for now - but Andrew the dev is amazing so he will get it without too much more delay).
However there are a few inherent bits of code in the OS to make the LED blink for certain colors/patterns and those are the limited blinks you can pick.
I was a beta tester so I watched how this progressed.

I thought this app was all good for me, but it's still not working. I can't get the sleep mode to work. I set it up to turn off all notifications at night but they're still coming on.
I cannot get this to work no matter what I try!!!
Is blue the only color we can get to pulse, or will more come over time?
What Can You Do?
I've never used Light Flow before but have been considering purchasing the app. Can anyone tell me what setup they use Light Flow (ie which color for which)?
I guess I'm asking for someone to pitch me the product! I'm interested in it but hesitant on what LED notifications I would use besides the defaults.
Thanks!

So, holding my new U12+ in hands now, I slightly miss my HTC 10...is there any chance to disable the notification led while night time or manually without set ALL notification off? Lightflow brings not the expected result, neither does Tasker (somewhere I read that Tasker cant handle this setting with stock rom...) Can't check it because I don't want to unlock, root etc the U12+ yet for reasons.

When you want to root you will be able to do that via cleanslate or kirisakura kernel, the first one doesn't need root but I think it still means unlocking bootloader.
Sent from my HTC U12+ using XDA Labs
Yeah, I think too that flashing a new kernel requires an unlocked bootloader. But I want to avoid this step yet...
So, if there's a without-root solution for my request, it would be much appreciated to get this solution.
Thanks
