[Q] problem with asus widget - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, just got my transformer few days ago and i think i found my dream tablet. but, i'm having problem with the asus time widget. it is the one that displays the date on the screen. it seems not updating at midnight (or maybe not updating at all). i got up around 11:00am today and the date on there is still yesterday's date. I've been searching the forum but couldn't find much info on it. hope someone have a solution, thanks.

My date widget works fine. Try removing it and placing it new to the desktop, maybe that helps.

removing and adding works. resetting the tf works. all annoying workarounds. yes, i have the after midnight bug too.minor nuisance (for me anyway).

removing and adding worked. hope they fix it soon, it will be really annoying have to do it everyday lol.

Ya I noticed this same issue just last weekend, seems to only happen though if using it while midnight rolls around otherwise it's fine.

Us old guys learned a long time ago that if you just make sure you're in bed before midnight you're never aware of bugs like these...

Same here
I get it every day. If I remove it and re-add it of course it refreshes. Same as a soft reboot. But not a fix. And I also have noticed the Calendar widget has the same issue. I know the widgets register for events and since at least 2 widgets exhibit the same type of issue its probably related. I hope 3.2 fixes it as it bothers me I can't rely on what I see on the screen to be correct.

I doubt that, because it is from Asus and so not part of Android itself.

can someone upload the asus time widget? thanks!

time-zone
in settings you are able to set the correct time-zone.
i am sure, then your clock works right.

The rise and fail of "Beautiful Widgets"

Hi friends,
"Beautiful Widgets" was one of the first paid apps I bought for my x10. I LOVED it! It brought a whole new vision and style to my phone, what with the many clock themes and weather styles.
But recently, it's been AWFUL... plagued with bugs and force-close issues and time freezing. I even have been late for an appointment because the bloody time was stuck an hour behind and I didn't notice!
And now, the geolocation option is messed up too... it used to work fine but it tells me I'm somewhere I'm not. I went across town today and it told me I was somewhere I'd never even heard of.
I've e-mailed the dev but had no response, and from looking at the comments on the Android Market, I'm not alone on this one.
I just wondered if there is anyone who ISN'T having issues with it? I kinda wish I'd not updated it but a couple of weeks ago there were updates every couple of days. It's a shame because it worked great for me before the mass-update thing but I have no idea which version it was at before it went horribly wrong.
It was partly due to recommendations from this site that made me look at BW in the first place so I thought I'd start a discussion to see what experiences anyone else is having, or if anyone has found a way to get around this madness!
Mine works fine
It's fine for me too. The 3.xx version us really great, with accuweather.
For me, the best widget pack, and made by à french guy

Works fine for me too. I take it you've tried uninstalling and reinstalling?
I think most problems you and many others are referring to surfaced from version 3 onwards. Your best bet is to find 2.99 and see how you get on with that.
(PM me if you cant find it )
mine is all good too, couldnt live without it.
I was having problems too until i read that 3.xx needs to have a clean instal... did u install the 2.99 version and reinstall 3.06? I think that should remedy some problems like time and proper weather with accuweather. Something to do with different way to access database.
Hope this helps
Thanks for the tips. I do have some backups but I only seem to have 2.82...
I have tried to uninstall and reinstall but it didn't make any difference. I'm wondering if there are data files somewhere that failed to uninstall that are causing problems.
I'll have another go at it... MarylandCookie, thanks for the help, I may be in touch about that 2.99 version if this fails!
This has taught me one thing though... don't update apps instantly if you're happy with how they've been working. MUST make backups first! The only reason I stopped doing that is because I've been running out of space on my memory card with all the music and media I've been storing on there.
Thanks for the tips, I'll see what happens after further fiddling...
Here's an update:
Uninstalled -> Reinstalled from Market.
Same probs with geolocation. Can't be bothered waiting to see if time freezes again; could happen any time.
Uninstalled. Found /sdcard/data/beautifulwidgets folder. Just thought "sod it" and deleted the lot, even though it means downloading my fave themes again.
Reinstalled... and...
Geolocation still way off. NUTS. If anyone has any further advice please let me know!
Maybe you should just not use geolocation and hope the issue is remedied in future updates. I personally aren't having any problems either, maybe everyone else (including me) aren't using the geolocation option? why not just type in your location and save it?
And isn't it just constant rain in England anyways?? lol
i use Geo Location, out of interest are your settings on your handset to allow location by wireless networks or by GPS with Assisted? or all of them?
I tried it with combinations of settings, and in the older versions it's always been accurate, no matter what the settings are.
I'm in a different place every day with my work and I loved that the Geolocation feature was accurate before. Now it tells me I'm at places I'm not at, I find it annoying.
But yeah, it should just say "England: Wet & miserable. Wherever you are."
I've uninstalled it now and gone back to the stock clock. At least I know it keeps the time well...
For example, last Saturday, club I go to shuts at about 2:30am... I checked clock and it said it was about 12:30am... within 20 minutes the lights came on, chucking out time. BLOODY ANNOYING! Yeah I'd been drinking so that doesn't help but I bought that app for the pretty clocks and if I can't trust it, and the dev is unresponsive, then I just give up, to be honest! Just feel a bit ripped off now. I officially give up. For now.
Perhaps he'll fix it some day but it went from updates every few minutes to nothing for about a week. I think he's had enough!
I find the geolocation now to be more accurate for my location at home, although it doesnt seem to update when it should. I went to somewhere 50miles from home at the weekend and the location didnt change once.
Love the app though
Did you try version 2.999?
Ah. I don't have it yet... did you PM me? I must have missed it. Nuts, as I was about to go out too... oh hang on... I've got a smartphone and I'm gonna use it!
Ah... I now have 2.999 and can confirm it works GREAT! Location is spot on, time working okay so far, weather looks good... thanks!
Gods knows why the dev fiddled with it so much after this version... thanks so much for the help!
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
Yeah, I sporadically get the same problem. Before v3 I had to make sure there was no space in the location i.e. city, country. Geolocation would put me on the other side of the planet. It's got better now, but time still freezes sporadically.
New update available seems to have sorted out the geolocation issues for me
Yeah, it's typical... just as I was happy with 2.999, all working GREAT (thanks to you-know-who-you-are!) I noticed 3.72 was available so I thought I'd give it a try and it seems MUCH better now.
Typical, as soon as I find an alternative solution the dev finally sorts out what has been driving me nuts for ages!
So it's Beautiful again, and the weather seems to be more accurate too... at the moment... not going to upgrade again in a hurry and may check out how much it soaks up the battery compared to 2.999.
Thanks again for the help and advice.
Honestly, I have to completely disagree.
I have never had a problem with BW since I bought it the first time.
Locator works fine, the weather is generally accurate, and no problem with the time. Granted I live in a large city, so no problems locating, but still. no problems at all. With previous versions or new updates.

Launcherpro & Thunderbolt compatibility issues

I am not too sure if anyone has come across the same issue as I have but I wanted to share this with everyone.
Basically I had noticed that I was having major issues w/my contacts loading up when initiating my dialer and most of my widgets were not loading up, and last but not least a lot of my apps continuously force closed through out the day.
Long story short... if you're having these issues I suggest you uninstall Launcherpro. I actually was utilizing Launcherpro plus but apparently, Launcherpro has been the root of the problem for most of these issues and also was a major part as to why my battery would not stay at full charge for long. And to my surprise I was actually able to confirm with a tier 2 tech support rep...
Once I uninstalled it I was able to use my phone flawlessly again.
AGAIN... I'm sorry if this has already been mentioned previously but I was going insane thinking that I had a defective phone, so for anyone that is having these issues please know that Launcherpro apparently is not compatible quite yet to the TBolt.
I haven't had a issues with LP on my Tbolt, and to be honest I feel like my battery has actually improved since I installed it.
All phoes react different. When I got my tbolt I was having issues with my sms. This was like 3 hours after I got the phone. So I did a factory reset on my device and no problems whatsoever. (Knock on wood) hope this helps.

+1 launcher pro rocks
I was wondering why my contact would take forever to load up when I wanted to make a phone call lol. Works fine now that I uninstalled Launcherpro. Thanks!
The dialer contacts problem was solved in another thread. All you have to do is change the dock shortcut to something else and then change it back to the dialer, works perfectly fine now. I've been using LPP since day1 and haven't had any of the other issues you're having so I'm not sure what's going on there.

Widget display issues...

I'm having problems with some of the widgets displaying on my home screens.
Some, but not all of them, have what I would describe as a static appearance covering part of the icon, usually in a bar across the width of the icon.
The issue affects different widgets at different times but would appear to only be ones added by the apps I've downloaded rather than the "stock" ones.
I'm hoping I'm not alone in this and that better still, someone knows how to sort it?

I had that too. On one widget. I simply rebooted my device, and it went away. Not come back since. Not totally sure what it is to be honest.

Yeah, I had the same. A reboot fixed it and not happened again.
Cheers guys will give that a go....
On another note, how are you finding the Sensation? I came from a rooted Desire so the leap doesn't seem quite as big as maybe I'd hoped, not too impressed with the "locally stored" navigation maps not being free as it was always publicised...
Apart from that I'm well impressed, as are my colleagues more importantly! ;-)

I am very impressed by the device. Looks amazing. I love the new screen, much better than the WVGA on the Desire HD. qHD is lovely. Missing the root though. Really hope there are some breakthroughs when more devs have the device.
Have same problem too. noticed it on the stock android power widget and also the facebook widget. I can only describe it like "bad tv reception". hoping it will clear up after a reboot. haven't noticed it with any of the htc widgets.
Just picked up Sensation today. So far loving it. this has been the only problem I've encountered so far.
From what I have read so far this issue is known and is believed to be a software issue. I have experienced this on a few non htc widgets. I tend to agree with the notion that it's because not all apps can keep up with the new qHD screen.
Agreed: Only 'major' issue for me as well

I've had my phone for a few days (luck to find a Walmart that sold it to me). I received "static lines" on my power widget. I rebooted this once, and all is well. It only affected that one widget. Reminds me of a video card going out on a computer (again just on the widget).
Oh, I also noticed that the voice recorder widget (from htc Hub) wouldn't turn on when I pressed the widget.
I'm having this static lines issue also. Do the guys from HTC know that? Hope it is gonna be fixed in the new firmware.
I'm having a serious issue with the widgets, worse than what I've seen described here. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to it. It can affect almost all widgets at one time or perhaps just a few. Rebooting sometimes but by no means always helps, as does switching skins.
I expect it is indeed a software issue. I'm hoping an update with smooth things out a bit, but I sure as heck haven't heard of any updates any time soon for T-Mobile, S-OFF or otherwise.
I had this issue too. Where random widgets would show some static graphic corruption. But yesterday I got the OTA update and after that all these issues seems gone. So definitely a software issue.
I have now started to get this, I have found killing HTC sense removes this for a while but it then comes back....
Never had until now..and had for month or so now...
Could anyone with this issue please have a look at this thread and confirm that these are same problems?

Same problem - horizontal "rainbow" lines through widgets.
Can anyone else who got the OTA update confirm that it fixes this issue?

I had the same problem.the power widget, youtube widget and PowerAamp widget all have those horizontal rainbow lines.i just deleted them from the screen then added them back...that cleared the problem for me.
I actually noticed something very similar to this, but it was in Wordfeud. Across the bottom, where all your letters are, I had the same thing happening. I did a reset and it hasn't come back... as of now, anyways.

Ive always seen some black lines in the letters in wordfued... figured it was a compatability issue. The always go away as soon as I touch the screen..
Same problem here, it happens with 3rd party apps and also with with stock apps like google search bar or tips widget(it's random)
I hope that it will be fixed soon.
Had this twice, first time after Hub downloads second time just happened but the phone had like 80 RAM left. First time did a reset and never again touched the damn buggy Hub (didn't let me login again anyway). Second time a battery pull fixed it. Awful stuff.

EDIT 2: Okay! I got it. Here are the other apps I installed this morning that gave me the problems again but are not gone after I uninstalled them: Linpack and Quadrant. Please give feedback as to which apps I've uninstalled that you currently have on your phone.
EDIT: Never mind. It came back again. I'm still trying to find the culprit. I'll update you guys if I find anything.
I think I may know why we have this problem. I noticed this happen to me when I first started installing apps on my phone which I bought just 3 days ago. At first, I rebooted to get rid of it, but then it would come back as soon as I touched the screen, not even on an icon or widget. So I thought of the last app I installed and uninstall it. After rebooting, the problem was gone. I did a few tests and it seems to only happen with apps that require root access.
Can you guys confirm this for me?
So far my theory is working. I've tested with apps like ROM Manager, SetCPU, Root Explorer, etc. Right after I install, the problem appears. After uninstalling, I reboot and the problem is gone.

[Q] Google Maps Compass Calibration Bug w 3.2

Since I upgraded to 3.2 I can't use Google Maps for more than a few minutes without a popup asking me to calibrate my compass by moving the tablet in a figure 8 motion. Does anyone know a solution for this bug?

No case. I also experienced a problem with the google search widget taking text but not launching into a browser.
I did a factory reset of the tablet. It fixed the google search widget. I am still having problems with the compass. Also this morning when I turned on the tablet the Wifi was not working...
I am going to try doing a reset again. This time I won't allow google to do a restore. I will just load apps manually. I will see if that makes a difference.
Thanks,
No better....I have factory reset the unit three times. I am still constantly getting the compass calibration request and wifi disconnection...I may have a bad unit. I can't tell if these are 3.2 bugs because I just received my unit yesterday and I upgraded almost immediately.

The compass calibration error message started popping up for me after the update. I do have a case with a magnet, the roocase, but, never had the popup happen prior to the update. I've had the case on since July 8th.
I have no case on mine and it just started doing it after upgrade. I may try uninstalling the map update to see if that does anything.
I am getting the same message when using Google Earth. It has to be a 3.2 bug.
I get it with Falling Fred.
i am getting this as well in maps. Has anyone tried seeing if it works outside? I am going to try stripping the update as well.
EDIT: update is not the issue. Stripped it from the device with the same results.

Since i get this in the game Falling Fred, I don't think it is a bug with Maps. Rather, it would seem to be with the Android OS as a whole.
Just verified here as well in Maps. I know it has been reported, but unless ASUS sees this as a problem for the majority they will not fix or push Google to fix.
Okay - me too, then. I'm getting it in google maps and a couple of other gps apps. - sheureka
Count me in, I got it when using the Earthquake app. I restarted it and didn't see it again but I didn't stay on there too long so I will monitor it. I believe this is another 3.2 bug but I've been wrong before...
I'm getting it too since upgrading to 3.2.

How exactly would one do this?
called asus support
I wasted time on the phone with Asus support today. They were completely clueless about this problem. They suggested that I return my unit for repair. I just received it two days ago from Best Buy so I exchanged. This time I tried out Google maps before I did the 3.2 update. The first time I launched the app it did complain about the compass briefly but no figure eight message. I can't remember the exact message. After that there were no more problems. I updated to 3.2 and the incessant compass calibration messages started again. it is also popping up in an unrelated app (game). This is a significant sw bug. I am surprised more people are not reporting the problem. maybe there is some hw dependance but I experienced the same problem on two different units. The first was a B70. My current unit is B60.
This sucks...

ASUS removed .30 update from there website.

i downloaded the most recent tf700t ota update which was the .30 update and when i go back to the website. it is no longer there. any reasons why?? maybe they werent supposed to send it out yet?
because it blows! even with limiting background processes limited to 4 i still get hangs.... its a pos (and i dont mean a point of sale) if you dont have it consider yourself lucky....

I find your comment interesting since I did get the .30 update OTA and I had no issues with the update nor have I had any issues after it finished. It is interesting that Asus pulled the update though I will give you that.
UPDATE: Wanted to add that I did not get the .26 OTA and had to do a manual update using the downloaded file provided by Asus Service located on their site.
Wow, I must be one of the lucky ones, my Infinity has been running so much better since this update my bencharks even went up, I used to get about 13100 on Antutu and now I get about 13590, browser hasn't hung once and I haven't had any game crashes, except the usual Nvidia bug, **** I even plyed Heist on power saving mode all the way through.
Sorry for those having issues, but this machine is so much better then my Prime was it isn't even funny.
Honestly I haven't found any problems with 0.30 update yet. The browser is actually less prone to crashes than before (or at least that is what I can observe). Not sure if this update is creating problems for people, but for me everything is fine so far.
After downloading this update on the first day it was pushed, I have had no issues at all. In fact, it could be in my head but it feels a little snappy when opening apps.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
Every update you are going to have some people who say it caused issues. FWIW, I got it and it has not introduced any major new issues for me. In other words my tablet still has a few stability issues but I can't tell if they are new since ASUS' ICS firmware has never been 100% stable for me. On top of this, you always find some buggy apps that may have some issue with the update you hadn't seen before.
The only thing I think that may be "new" is: I got some crashes on the stock browser which were fairly rare for me prior (including one that locked up the tab completely)... I decided to use it as a motivation to test out Firefox for Android and it seems to be running pretty well after several hours of continuous use. So, overall, I'd say I have no major problems with the update.
They could have pulled it because a lot of people seemed to have actual problems with the download and install. Anecdotal: seems like I've seen way more problem reports/"need help" posts on the forums than a typical patch level update. I've seen several brick reports, too, which seems way out of line. So maybe they needed to look at an installer issue before they put it back up.
On the other hand, if you haven't gotten it yet I wouldn't worry much, I'm not seeing anything I'd consider a major improvement, either. I don't care about face unlock. LOL.
I did benchmarks as well. My numbers went up exponentially. Seems snappier! No issues whatsoever. Improved my blue tooth and Netflix now works. I'm a happy camper.
Before this update, I was having occasional issues with Chrome freezing and needing to force close. I didn't originally have this problem so figured it had to do with a Chrome update (I have it set to auto update so I don't know if it's was updated or not but something changed). After recieving .30 though, I can't say I've had an issue with Chrome.
I will say that the task/notification bar keeps popping up unexpectedly. And that never happened before. The tablet can be sitting in the dock open and the screen on but not touched at all by me and eventually the task/notification bar opens on the bottom right. I'm assuming this is a .30 update issue. Anyone else see this?
Chiming in.
No problems after .30 here either.
Yea i havent had any problems what so ever. don't know why everyone else is...

I remember the prime's firmware was uploaded on their site and some people were getting their devices bricked. The next day, the firmware was removed from the site. Maybe this could be the same.

bs player fcs on me now, black market fcs on me, and most importantly FILE MANAGER HD force closes on me. the hell asus ? it was great before that
Have had multiple issues since the update (only had the Infinity for about 2 weeks, and new to Android so not sure if I had it long enough prior to the update for these to show but all where working fairly flawlessly before):
BS Player crashes as soon as I tried to play a file - "Loading files..." - after a lot of googling, switched off something in the options about loading files and seems to work OK now
Dice player has frozen a few times
The email that comes with it - froze on one account out of three and wouldn't swap over - after about a dozen cold boots seems to have been OK for the past 12 hours
Dead Trigger, Modern War and City Crime - all crashing and freezing regularly (had maybe 2 crashes prior to the update)
Boat Browser and the stock browser have had a few crashes
No issues since the latest OTA. It seems snappier and more stable. I am much happier!
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF700T using Xparent Blue Tapatalk 2
When I first got the. 30 update my tablet started locking up and rebooting. It had never done that before the update. I did a cold boot and it still did it. I finally did a factory reset and now I haven't had any issues for the last two days. The tab is much snappier and browsing has improved.
I was having problems with MXplayer, Dice and BS player after the update. I uninstalled all three of them did a hard reset (vol down and power on) and then installed them again. Now they seem to be working fine. I know MX and BS just recently had updates as well. Now BS player has an offset for the audio and it's a great workaround for the BT lag!
anybody have a link to the updates? my ota failed and i cant wait to flash .30
