[Q] 1x Data? - T-Mobile LG G2x

I've rooted my G2X and when i reach an area where i have 3g/4g, itll say 1x at the top. my network is set to WCDMA preferred. is 1x another means of saying 3g or what? I know when i have hspa+ in the area itll say '4g' (i flashed the mod to have it say that rather than just the plain 'h')
Can anyone explain to me 1x in a nutshell?

1x is cdma2000 technology. 1x means 1 x the Radio Transmission Technology which any cdma2000 network employs and is a 1.23MHz single carrier.

Weird

You're roaming on Sprint or Verizon there. Might wanna stop that. WCDMA is non SIM carriers. So running WCDMA is having you roam on other carriers. T-Mobile doesn't support WCDMA.

No... He means in the Android settings he has it set to GSM/WCDMA preferred which means that he can use 2G and 3G/4G networks, but prefers the 3G/4G, it can actually be quite battery draining... but that's besides the point. The terminology used in the Android settings is wrong, calling GSM 2G and WCDMA 3G/4G. He isn't roaming.

Probably this guys rooted OS was adapted from some cdma phone's OS. I was had a HTC touch (which was cdma phone) but had GPRS settings on the custom NFSFAN rom.

Rogers Nexus S works on AT&T 3G Network?

I've purchased a Nexus S sold by Rogers, it was a steal! I got it for $305.93 (that includes tax and shipping)!
I was wondering if I could use it on AT&T 3G? I know the bands are not going to be a problem, so besides that and the APN settings.

This chart is pretty comprehensive... and up until 2004 it was called "Rogers AT&T Wireless" so it'll work.

Will Confirm this too.
My is an original Rogers, that was being used in US (ATT), then sold to me (rogers again)
3G works fine on both carriers. Mine is the I9020A.
Heeter
I have the white 9020a and it also works on AT&T. I needed to flash a new radio (KB3) in order to reach uncapped data speeds.
Thank you everyone, i'll update you guys on which nexus s i'll get in the mail. I hope its rogers!
it also worked for china NETCOM 3G, 2100 HSPA

It will do HSPA/HSPA+ up to 7.2 Mbps, that's it. Newer GSM devices will do HSPA+ to 14.4 or 21 Mbps - these are the devices touted as "4G" by T-mobile and AT&T.
So, under that definition, no it is not a 4G phone.
The Nexus S 4G is a 4G phone in the sense that it has a WiMax radio for Sprint's 4G network.
Personally I see better speeds on AT&T's and T-Mobile's HSPA networks (2.5-3.5 Mbps on average) using the Nexus S than I did on Sprint's WiMax network (1.5-2.5 Mbps on average) around Chicago for what it's worth.
The AT&T version its NOT 4G. If someone told you that they were either mistaken our dishonest.
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
I don't think NS will do HSPA+
HSPA alone yes but not HSPS+
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using XDA App
the ns wont do HSPA+, but will do HSPA. the att nexus s isnt 4g. but, that said, my tmobile nexus s will reach speeds that many 4g devices wont see, heres a speedtest from where i work in rego park queens, nyc. i average between 4-6.5mbps there usually. not 4g but pretty damn fast

by using *#2263#
i found it dose not work on WCDM where i am
even if it was on auto
when change to GSM it worked.
any clue for this issue?>
What network are you trying to use?
Captivate has the following bands:
GSM/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900
UMTS/HSPA (WCDMA) 850/1900/2100
Note the absence of WCDMA 1700 for TMobile USA.
am on GSM 900/1800
WCDM 2100
when am on 2100. i can recive call
but canot make calls
any help?
why i can recive but canot make call on WCDM only
any one????????
Excessive bumping is highly unnecessary. If we knew and could substantiate an answer, we'd have told it to you already.
The only advice I can give is for you to force WCDMA2100 only via service mode through *#(*#)2263#(*#*). The additions to that code in parentheses is for CM7.
This is a total guess; I really don't know how to help you. Try different modems if this fails? Since it looks as if you have a Captivate ROM, make sure you only use an i897 modem, otherwise you'll break Bluetooth.
T-mobile and att network not compatable for 3g data. You can make calls but you will only get EDGE speed data.

One X APNs locked?

So, I live in an area with really spotty LTE coverage. My phone will exhaust itself just to try connecting to the LTE network. When it fails to do so, my service will usually drop for 30sec-1min. It's immensely annoying. However, there is decent HSPA+ coverage where I am, and I'm trying to force the phone to use that.
However, the #*#*4636*#*# doesn't work, as we all already know, since AT&T disabled this setting. So I tried to add an HSPA+ only APN and use that.
...only I can't seem to select the new APN I made. Here's what I get when I try to use it:

Anyone else having this problem? Anyone know of a workaround?
Put * in apn type
Edit: like this

Dealing with rogers, I've learned everything there is to know about apns and the HTC 1X lol

And what do you put in APN field?
word "phone" used to work, but now even that still connects to LTE...

It depends on the carrier, I'm on rogers and they have the "smartphone" apn and the android one.. now they have the LTE apn so you have to google what your carriers apn is.

[Q] Nexus 5 on Verizon (mainly about network frequencies)

Ok so, Verizon uses CDMA, and the only CDMA frequencies that would work are 2G, which is no bueno, so in that sense, I wouldn't really be able to use it on Verizon, BUT, the Nexus 5's LTE bands on the other hand are, some of them. Verizon's LTE uses the 700 and 1700 frequencies, which are both included in the Nexus 5.
So here's what I want to know, would I be able to use the Nexus 5 on Verizon, even if it'll only work in areas with LTE?
i searched google around for the similar problem and mostly they saying it wont be compatible and some sorts with their frequency and bands
Nexus 5 didn't compatible with Verizon at all.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
The nexus 5 will register on the LTE network where certain markets have this band available for me Verizon does not (Hawaii). Only a certain handful of markets have this band. However Verizon won't allow the device to use the LTE network it will see it and recognize it but Verizon systems deny it.
Google and Verizon have a crippled relationship seeing the galaxy nexus slow updates and Verizon wanting to put bloatware on it and the nexus 7 LTE being denied when it first launched. I think Google wants no part in verizon.
