[Q] What's an app you can't live without on your tablet? - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have had this thing a week, its rooted, stock 3.1. I fixed the speaker balance.
I am now seriously lacking apps. What are your favorites? non games preferred. I've realized quickly just because i like it on my Dinc doesnt mean its a great tab app.

Ok - don't laugh...Pulse (free)
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.alphonso.pulse&feature=search_result
I don't use it in widget mode. I just love having all of the articles from all my favourites sites aggregated nicely. I am using this app on my 40 minute train ride every day.
Also Trillian

Lets me use all my IM accounts in one place.
and of course - who could live without the awesome dual battery widget

one more sorry
Keepass. not honey comb specific but I honestly can't remember my 5 billion passwords - this little guy stores them all for me in a nice little encrypted DB. It's also fully compatible with the windows version which we use at work.

Droid comic viewer, perfect on a 10" screen

another vote for Pulse...
One app I really really with they had for the tablet is teh HBO Go app
best app I've ever had on my Evo

- Kindle
- Pandora
- RR File Locker
- Plex
As far as HBO Go, works just fine in the stock browser; there's a thread in this forum somewhere that 'splains how. I do wish netflix worked though.

Thumb Keyboard
ADW
Reader HD
DropBox
Groove IP
Skype
Splashtop HD
xkcdViewer
Gtask
Evernote
Polaris Office is the probably the best office app; Quickoffice is a close second.
I love this thing. It does everything I want--I use my PC to create presentations and the Transformer to present (and edit) them.

Pulse is awesome but it lacks one essential feature which they seemingly refuse to add: a mark as read function for articles that are synced with reader.
I only used pulse because greader pro wasnt available, now it is and the new honeycomb interface is awesome, I highly recommend it. News360 is another great news reader.
Kindle is great, thumb keyboard makes typing a lot easier on a tablet but it takes a little getting used to.

Thank you. I had been using the dockwidget posted here way back but this one is prettier and seems to be more responsive (customization is nice too).
For me its:
Gmail/Calendar
Polaris
Gallery
Kindle/Books
Talk
Games (pinball, Angry birds, CTR)
Weatherbug
CNN
I understand that half of these are baked in but they do it so well.

The ones I use multiple times a day are:
- Keepass (password app)
- Evernote (for keeping notes, saving articles, etc.)
- PhoneMyPC (rdp app for accessing my office pc)
- Sugarsync (to access files on my PC and office PC)
- Taptu (news reader, for entertainment, gadget, health news)
- Friendcaster (Facebook client)
- Twitter
- Opera Mobile (web browser)
- Tapatalk (for accessing forums)
- News360 (News reader, for real news)
- Gmail
- Reader HD (google reader client for honeycomb)

Catch doesn't have notebooks--I'm not used to using tags. It seems like a disorganized jumble to me but that's a PEBKAC issue, not a software issue.

Evernote
Argentina Noticias (just for Arg users =D )
Google+
Unrar Free
Swiftkey (the best but its too small on tablet, any one knows other kb like this on full size?)
Ndrive
miren Browser (no FC on mine)
my 2 cents, just have mine sice a week ago so i dindnt play too hard on it yet

-Remote desktop client
-ConnectBot (to access my web server, and port forward my rdp sessoins in case I'm on a restricted network, and it's more secure since I use key auth)
-Polaris Office
-Thumb keyboard (I do have the dock, but just in case)
-K-9 mail
-Skype
-TalkDroid
-Twitter
-Subsonic (I don't store any music on the device, I stream it from my server since I'm always connected over 3G via my phone)...
-Rockplayer
-Dolphin Browser HD
I do have a lot more ofcourse, but these are the most important ones, I use these apps during the day wherever I am...

Chalk up another vote for Pulse. lol

Book readers

one that comes with it is very basic are there better ones people are using, also i tried and epub book on there and i to put it in the root of the storage for it to be seen, is there not a way to put all the books in 1 folder and them be seen by the book readers
thanks for any help
Hi,
Have a look at this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1045190
Someone suggested that a corrupt epub file might be causing the trouble with My library. Me personally, never had a problem with it and I use it a lot.
As I mentioned in that thread, the best epub reader was considered Aldiko, available from the market.
Hope this helps,
rio
Personally I like the nook app the best. It smooth and has nice page turn animations.

It's in the Android Market.

Overdrive Media Console
I don't know if it is compatible with Honeycomb, but Overdrive Media Console is an excellent book reader. You can use it to check ebooks and audiobooks out of your local library for free. All that I have used through Overdrive gave me 21 days before the books expire.
I haven't received my Transformer yet but have been itching to give this app a shot on it. If anyone gives it a go, please report back with the results as to whether or not it works on the Transformer with Honeycomb.
Overdrive can be obtained for free on the Android Market.

Don't have my TF yet, but I have a Nook Color. I like Aldiko better than the Nook's ebook app. Specifically I love the night mode (reverses colors) and the slide to adjust brightness on the fly.

I have aldiko, ezpdf, google books, and amazon kindle, but I actually like MyLibrary the best. IMO MyLibrary is not basic at all. I'm not sure how to solve the file location problem, but I think MyLibrary has the best features. You can highlight, annotate, search, organize bookshelves and do text to speech. The pdf viewer is pretty nice as well - it puts a preview blurry page before it loads, unlike ezpdf, and that lets you decide whether you want to skip the page or not (useful in magazines with ads).
I haven't encountered many bugs (just the rare force close), and I haven't tried the nook app yet though. I'll try it out later and maybe give my impressions.
Here's the various apps I'm currently using:
Amazon's Kindle - for *.mobi (Amazon E-book format)
ezPDF Reader - for *.pdf (Acrobat)
Perfect Viewer - for *.cbr (Comic Book RAR Archive)
So far I've had good experiences with the above 3.

+1. Also has a night mode and looks good in landscape. If the Asus app had a night mode, I'd just use it though. I wish the Nook app had the search features of the Asus app, but then again, I can't remember the last time I searched a book I was reading.

[Q] 11 essential apps for honeycomb?

Has anyone tried any of these apps on the transformer yet? If so, do you agree with the article, or do you have any apps you'd recommend instead?
http://www.everythingabouttablets.net/2011/05/03/1-apps-honeycomb/
I've tried all those, apart from the twitter one. Yes, they recommend some decent apps, and it's interesting to read others views on them. At the bottom of my second post HERE I've added a section I believe are 'must have' internationally available apps, with a couple that aren't in that other websites list.

Use moboplayer...very good
dropbox...don't like it at all on the android. On PCs it sync automatically, but on android it's "ondemand" so you might have a file in drop box, but it sits there until you "download it" kinda stupid if you ask me. They assume we are on phone and gives no options to just sync for tablets.
File Manager HD is the best file manager for a tablet, IMO.

Good to know. Actually I prefer it that way on a tablet (mostly because I put much work stuff on dropbox and don't want it taking place on the tablet). They should make an option so one could have it one way or another.
I like SugarSync best, precisely because it just syncs things in the background and documents can be directly edited. I use it with QuickOffice Pro HD, and I can open and save documents directly to SugarSync. For my writing projects, it's great: I can start a document on one machine, save it to Sugarsync, and then pick it up on any other machine seamlessly.
One more suggestion...
Check out the Samurai II game for something to show off your Transformer with.
It looks freakin' amazing.
I disagree with the comic viewer. I prefer Perfect Viewer.
I'm not a big comics reader, but I've enjoyed some of the free comics you can get under the Comixology app.
Comics look awesome on the Transformer!

Android office now has spell check

FYI, android office now has spell checker. This app is getting very very close to replacing msoffice. And it's only 6 bucks. Get it to support the dev.
How good is the spell checker? The gain I see over Polaris is being less (legally) tied to the tablet, give or take the corruption issues.
At least for me, my quality scale generally flows like this:
Google
Vi IMproved
Microsoft Word
Hunspell
aspell, MySpell, etc.
but is just based on experience over the past decade.

I think he's talking about Androffice.
He says the app is 6 bucks, Google Docs is free.
Google Docs also sucks massively if you are using the mobile version instead of the desktop facing website. Android Office should be worth the cash, depending on how you feel about Polaris (which can access files on Google Docs and Box)

RSS Feed Reader?

Hey everyone. Has anyone found a good RSS feed reader for the RT (outside of going to the google web variant that is)?
I was hoping there would have been some sort of integration for it with the built in News app - instead its another app Ive found myself hiding from the Modern UI.
I have been using NextGen Reader or News Bento (Slide into app then click More News (bottom right) to access your Google Reader feeds (after authorizing in settings of course) for Google Reader.
NextGen has a nice, typical layout and opens the full feed within the app. Works well and tends to be my daily reader for now. News Bento uses the Metro UI and I cannot recall if feeds open in app or metro IE. Either way it works well and is a nice change layout wise.
I also use Discourse as a replacement for Zite (which is my favorite non Google Reader feed reader). It requires significant setup, but is nice for a general news reader once set up.

Thanks. I had checked news bento but I find it laggy and takes a long time to load. The live tile also doesn't seem to show my feeds.
I'll check out nextgen. I miss some of the ios and android equivalents I've been using for so long.
FWIW, IE also has (since version 7) a built-in feed reader. It's not the best interface, but it's there and it works and it will sync across your devices...

I've used Feed Reader for a while, both on WP and RT. I like it, but it may not be what you want to see.
I tried News Bento and found it not very good either, even though it has good reviews. I actually bought Discourse, which was prevously under a different name, and find it more polished and organized.

I've been using News Bento, and although I really like the layout (it looks awesome), it is pretty laggy and slow. Not unusable, but close. I can't really recommend it.

It is, by far, the best RSS reader on the Windows store!
I believe Feed Viewer is very solid cloud-based app. I use it daily. It is far more than just RSS reader. It finds dominant image and extracts whole article.

Must have Apps for business user

Guys,
I recently bought the note 8.0, while my goal was not to take my regular notebook (real one..you know..papers..) with me and use the note 8.0
as the only source for being use during my day. I still have my laptop, but I prefer to be able to take the note 8.0 with me while travelling and not my laptop.
I installed apps which I think it is necessary for business, and of course, I'm using the standard premium suite apps which pre-installed, but...
I would like to hear from you your top 5-10 apps you can leave with, and please...no game (this post will come later ), business app only.
I travelling a lot, and does not have connectivity always, so I need to have offline and online app as well.

It all depends on user specific needs,
for me the most useful combo is Dropbox + Folder sync + EzPdf - all important files I might need go to Dropbox folder on my PC, then after sync I never have to carry printouts with me, and ezpdf allows me to annotate the files if necessary

Great topic.
Just bought one myself and in same situation. Going to use it for work also. I have found that a combination of Polaris, ezPDF, Officesuite Pro w/font addon, cloud service, & Google Docs works for most things. Evernote w/Skitch is OK but last I knew you have to pay to sync with other accounts so it is limited. Not sure what you do for a living but there are also some cool space design/measuring/dimension calculating apps. I also have business and fraction calculators installed. Of course Lecture Notes.
Probably leaving some out but will post if I think of something.

Take a look at Notes Mobile also. Unfortunately, if you use the developer setting to do all your 2d rendering on the GPU it has a display bug - no fix and they're aware of it, and the same company has a scientific notation app which works correctly.
The up side is it's the best handwriting recognition I've seen on this device. It does substantially better than the onboard stuff does.
Until they fix the bug, I'm sorry to have purchased it but they're getting dinged enough in the Play store for it that I'm optimistic they'll eventually address the issue.

Just Google it, there's an own website for it. Basically it gives you a structure of tags to organize all's your tasks, especially your emails, too, which are kind of a task. Imo it's only useful if you use outlook in Windows to export mails to evernote. If u use Gmail for example the complete structure can also be achieved using labels, which is just another word for tag..
