Mobile Data will not work, need help. - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My wife's T-mobile nexus s was rooted and was updated from stock to 2.3.2 to cm7.1 along with the KD1 radio and trinity kernel about a week ago. Today I enabled her wifi hotspot and it worked fine for about 20 minutes. Then she turned it off and tried to get on the market from her phone and could not connect. So I look at it and data and wifi are gone and won't turn on. I have managed to recover wifi. I have in this order tried:
Playing with 2g/3g and mobile data settings
Rebooting
Fixing Permissions in CW
Reflashing the radio
Reflashing the rom after clearing cache and dalvik cache
Restoring a nandroid from before the crash after wiping data, cache, dalvik, system and doing a factory reset. This step is what got my wifi back.
The md5s from the rom, kernel, and radio match up so I don't think it is that.
I then had to leave, so she has the phone right now and it makes calls and will recieve text, just no mobile data. So as I now I'm kind stuck. Anyone have any ideas.

My sister's mobile internet was once deactivated as tethering wasn't covered by her contract and they couldn't "upgrade" her to a monthly fee that'd have included tethering. After calling the carrier she got her data connection back.

It was a gremlin from the apn rename function of the data toggle from Widgetsoid. I remembered that I had to use apn rename to get it to work when I first set it up. I forgot about it when uninstalling and the hotspot finally broke Mobile Data and WiFi somehow because of it. I just had to reinstal widgetsoid and switch to root toggle (since now the apn rename does not work as it did before being broken) and turned it on and off. Now I've uninstalled it again as she doesn't need it anymore and everything works.
Wasn't as difficult as I feared it was going to be.

Another Wifi Problem P6210 (SOLVED)

Two days ago, my device suddenly could not connect to any wifi anywhere, encrypted or not, WEP nor WPA. This began to happen after I did a backup though CWM.
It sees networks but continuously runs through a scanning, connect, disconnect, scanning cycle. It tries to set the IP from the network, but then flashes unsuccessful and starts scanning again and repeats the process, and in the list of available networks, all available networks cycle between being not in range, remembered or disabled.
Sometimes wifi networks are greyed out, sometimes, not. Sometimes it cannot even find my router, even if I place the Tab on top of it. It connects once in a while, randomly, but only holds the connection for a few minutes.
I have other wifi tablets and all can connect to my wifi, nothing has changed with my wifi settings, router, etc. But to make sure, I did cycle the modem and router on and off and even reset the Airport Extreme that I use to factory settings. Modem is new and Airport Extreme is only a couple of months old.
My Tab is rooted and running stock HC. Never been dropped, great condition, never exposed to shocks, water, etc.
I have tried the following fixes:
Restored to factory settings, wipe data, etc. Nothing. I have tried this several times.
I have tried setting a static IP address. Nope.
ODINed it back to stock using P6210XARKL1_P6210UEKL1_HOME.tar.md5. It briefly connects to wifi long enough to apply the update and after that, it starts cycling scanning, connecting, disconnecting, etc. Tried this several times as well.
I even tried the update to the UK ICS for the P6210 and have the same problem. It sees wifi, but cannot connect, and on occasion it cannot see any wifi at all, even when I am 2 feet away from the router.
At this point I am convinced that it is a hardware issue (either that or it is pouting because there is a new Nexus 7 in the house)
Anyone have any other suggestions for a fix?
Update:
I did another hard reset from within Settings-->Storage--> Factory Data Reset, rather than through recovery (either stock recovery or CWM) as I had done before.
Now, wifi connects a little more consistently. Would resetting that way actually make a difference? Or is this just a random thing? Am I trying to see a logic where none exists?
How would a hard reset through the system settings be any different than one through recovery? Or, does each reset clear something else that got corrupted along the way?
My wifi still randomly cycles through scanning, connecting, disconnected, just as before. However, now the connection is actually made more quickly (under a minute when before it could take up to 15 minutes - or just never connect) and seems to remain connected for longer periods of time now.
Well, after searching and reading through 100s of similar issues one of the workarounds is to use a wifi widget or a WiFi Fixer App.
I am using a widget to control wifi and it along with any other random thing I might try can occasionally make my Tab connect to my Wifi network.

Persistence = Profit.
I think I have finally solved the broken wifi issue. Just to recap, the problem started after I did a backup with garyd9's CWM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1379532.
And as a last ditch effort I even tried toggling the wifi on/off with a widget as was suggested from other sources (Google is your friend), in addition to factory restores, or restoring from a CWM backup, etc. And that was not a reliable solution after all.
These are the steps I took.
Through stock recovery, I wiped data and cache, and did a factory restore, twice.
I ODINed back to stock, again.
Wiped data and cache and did a factory restore.
Wifi was still sluggish to connect, but finally I was able to load the update.
Then I wiped data and cache and did a factory restore again.
It has been 24 hours and I still have a strong wifi connection. If I power my Tab off and wait an hour or two, then reboot it connects immediately to wifi. If I toggle wifi on/off it still makes an immediate connection. YAY!
So, it seems that something got corrupted during the initial CWM backup and then persisted through many wipes and reinstalls.
UPDATE:
Still have working wifi!
I'm having the same problem now. I'm using latest CM9.
I was using Google Chrome just fine when suddenly Wifi disconnected for no apparent reason and it's now showing the same symptoms you described in the first post. I have formatted cache and cleared dalvik cache and it didn't work. Wiped everything and it didn't work. Reflashed CM9 and tried two different Wifi fix flashable ZIPs but I still got the problem. I'm wiping everything and reflashing CM9 once again.
Is someone else experiencing this?
I'm afraid to data wipe in stock recovery due to the brick bug reported (my tab uses one of the defective chips).
How is your Wifi holding up, VitaZora?
I hope persistance pays off.

My Tab also has the defective chip, but I didn't know that until AFTER I went through all those wipes and reinstalls.
But I can report that all is well and wifi is still working like a charm.

Ohhh I see...
I did wipe in HC stock recovery several times, but not in ICS stock recovery.
Have you wiped in ICS stock recovery? By selecting "Factory default" option from config menu or by manually going to recovery and selecting data wipe? Or both? Hahaha
Thank you for the reply!

Honestly, I can't remember. I know I flashed ICS twice as well as the CM9 version for our Tab.
I think the order for flashing from rooted HC was the following:
ICS, CM9, HC, HC, HC, ICS, HC.
In between each was either factory restore from the config menu or through recovery. Occasionally after flashing my device back to stock, it would go into a reboot loop and the only way to fix that was to enter recovery and wipe everything. But I reflashed so many times and tried wiping and factory restores multiple times as well, that I may have wiped ICS through recovery - in fact I am sure I did at least once.
Oh well, I guess I live dangerously.

Official ICS Atrix 2 4G/Internet Issue

I just updated my Atrix 2 to the official OTA ICS 4.0.4 and after it took all day for my system to catch up with the new OS, My data is not working. No internet connective, UNless I'm on wifi. I have never had a problem before until I updated. I use Easy Batter Saver (app) and I reset the mobile network. That didn't work. I tried enabling data through the settings. That DID NOT WORK. I went to the settings --> about phone --> status and the only irregularities I noticed were
Mobile Network State- Disconnected
Sim ID- Not Available
- idk how to take the screenshot.
Any Ideas?
--- Found the answer!
It took a while to figure it out but this was the answer if anyone else is having the problem, It seems that the APN were deleted and the one that remained on mine after the update did not work for data connectivity. This is it. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1576199
I used the ATT phone and it worked fine and if you cannot receive MMS make sure to use both of them.
ALSO heres another link for more APNs

or to restarting mobile after enabling mobile data and change to 3G network.
i tried 4 ICS radio images, but the same issue !!
i tried stock GB rom, same issue, but i tried another provider SIM with no issues, so , this was related to my provider network.

[Q] Cellular Data Inoperative

S-Off (juopunutbear)
Clockwork Recovery 5.0.2.7
After flashing the cm-9-1-(3-0-49)-r8.zip on the http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1912582 post and the kernel-3-0-49-r8, I had everything working except for MMS. I made the mistake of playing with the APN settings in an attempt to get the messaging app that came with the rom to send MMS messages. I realize now that I should have just used a third party app, which I was later able to do, but somewhere along the line I lost my cellular data capability. I used the APN settings from T-Mobile and tried some other settings, as well. The weirdest thing is that there were times when I would have cellular data for a little while, but the longest it lasted was a few hours and it never seemed to be anything except 2g (E). I've flashed the radio via hboot, flashed the stock rom (which got the cellular data working constantly), and reflashed the cm-9-1-(3-0-49)-r8.zip, after wiping data, cache, and dalvik.
Thank you in advance for any help.
MMS
I was able to get the cellular data working again by unmounting and formatting the data and system, but I'm still unable to receive MMS messages, even with a third party app. However, I can send them.
MMS over WiFi
It looks like the problem is only over WiFi and that it's a known issue, at least with Cyanogen. Sorry for being a bit of a noob. I hope this helps someone else.

Hello,
is the problem with WiFi in general or just WiFi + MMS?
Actually I have WiFi issues (WiFi is on and with full signal in status bar, but after a time, I have to turn it off and on again to make the WiFi work).
Thanks

[Q] Need help with connectivity issues. DESPERATE

Hey guys, quick background. I bricked my SGS3 and had to have it replaced. I think I got a refurb phone because from day one I keep having the same issue. First day I got the replacement phone I rooted it and flashed CleanROM 5.0. Everything was peachy until I noticed that I have no 4G or 3G service. In fact, I had no data connectivity at all. My phone can make calls, receive texts no problem, won't connect to internet. If I restart the phone, I have 4G right away. After a few minutes, the 4G icon is on, but the phone won't has no data connection (when I say data connection I mean it will not go online, no internet, no android market, still have voice and txts). If I attempt to go on internet, I get a message saying "No Signal Found For Mobile Networks". I have installed Network Signal Info and right after a restart it says 4G LTE, data connected, upload+download activity. After a few minutes, it says 4G LTE, data connected, after a little while, it will switch to EHRPD, with data "connecting". Also, in the System tab, it will tell me my IEMI and version of JB running, next to "Radio", it says "unknow". WiFi works perfectly btw. My IEMI is perfectly fine,
I had it backed up. My phone number is still there.
Here is what I had tried so far: Switching into and out of Airplane mode, different programs that reset mobile connection, flashed different custom ROMs, flashed the stock kernel, flashed 3 or 4 verizon Modems, Data wipe, cache, Dalvik wipe, Odin'ed back to stock 4.0.1 ICS and had upgraded it to 4.1.1 via verizon software update, changed the SIM card, and reprovisioned the phone with that *3767*whatever the hell code. I'm out ideas.
If anyone has any other idea that I can try before I take it back to Verizon, please, let me know.

Did you go into your mobile data settings to make sure you're on CDMA/LTE? If not I would select and reboot the phone and see if the problem persists. I don't know if you have tried this but it's worth a shot.
I'm having literally the same exact problem with my mom's S3 except for it's not rooted, complete with 'download + upload activity' and 'unknown' radio. I've yet to find anything in my search, but if I do I'll post it here.

WiFi troubles...

I installed CM 10.1 on a fresh storage (everything wiped. top to bottom) and everything is awesome so far until recently. I primarily use data but sometimes wifi for like netflix and stuff. I switched on wifi and watch for a while and am ready to go on to data and it says its on but I get no internet. WHA?? I have full LTE bars. I tested and every time I turned wifi on and off my data is shot. I tried going into recovery and wiping both caches and that'll temp fix it but as soon as I connect to wifi its done again.
Any known ways to fix this? Getting pretty iritating to go in, wipe, boot, every time I need data...
