How to get notification sounds to be the same as incoming calls? - Samsung Galaxy S (4G Model)

Please help

I know that the sounds are located in system/media/audio....check that out see what you can do.

do you mean the same choices, or the same ringtone? You should be able to copy the ringtones from /system/media/audio/ringtones to /sdcard/media/audio/notifications (going from memory here), and I would think that would give you the sounds you are looking for. you will probably have to be rooted to make this work, unless you can find the ringtones in a zip on this forum (which you probably can).

Like the same volume, cause when I lower the incoming calls ringtone then the notification one is the same as it was before without changing

Not sure what you're saying, but you can change the volume in your sound settings. You can change the sound itself according to the above posts.

what he's saying is, that on most stock android phones, the notification volume follows the ringtone volume, so if you lower the ring tone, via the volume keys, it also lowers the notification volumes. The SGS4G doesn't do this. I would imagine that there is a 3rd part app that will handle it, but I am typically on vibrate, or full volume, so it doesn't matter enough to me to really research it.

If you install mysettings from market, you can do this. Open mysettings, long press ringer mode in upper left hand corner. This will give you your volume sliders. check the box that links ringer and notification volumes.

O my goodness you rock guys!!! Omg omg omg!! I love you all!!

Anyway to make the Notification sound louder?

I swear, I have the volume as high as can be, but because the Captivate's speaker is covered most of the time since it lays on top of its speaker, you can only hear a muffle sound most of the time.
The ringer may be maxes but make sure that the notification sound is also maxes, under sound and display go to ringer volume and drag the seccond slider to max. Sometimes it gets bumped down to a unreasonably low volume for whatever reason

Also make sure you turn system volume all the way up

Choose a current tone. It's just quiet. I downloaded a new one and can always hear it now

That is another thing, why does the Notification Volume randomly minimizes itself. What is causing this?
I'd like to know why the notification volume has a mind of its own as well. Seems like I have to turn it up everyday... Not sure if this is an android thing or a samsung thing... Anyone have any ideas?

Not sure if its related, but I had the same problem. My volume was too low and I had everything turned up. One day I was using Google Maps and tried to get directions. The phone asked me to install something for the turn by turn voice directions and immediately everything was louder.
This may be because I messed my phone up or something, but I notice this happening when I turn my volume down... like the notification volume doesn't go back up. so let's say you put your phone on vibrate, it turns down the notification volume too, but when you turn up the main volume the notification gets "stuck" at like 1.... I installed audiomanager and I no longer seem to have this problem.
Just try turning your volume up and down and check your notification volume.

Need a Mute app that allows vibration

I've been using an app to mute all the sounds on my phone (called Mute!), but it also blocks the vibration function. Does anyone have an app that will mute all system sounds (phone, notification, etc) and still allow vibration?
Press the volume down button till your phone vibrates. Works like a champ
Audio guru is pretty good.

That only mutes the ringer volume. I tried that when I first got my phone at the movie theater. I wasn't too happy when I kept getting text messages and didn't know how to turn off the notification sound.
I found Simple Sound Profile Widget. It lets you set up different sound profiles (like Normal, Meeting, Vibrate, Loud, or whatever) and then you can select one quickly from the home screen.
I'll check out Switcher Pro and Audio Guru as well.

Like Byrd said, no need to download an app. It already has the capability to mute all sounds for all notifications, but keep the vibrate on.

Disable/Silence Notification Sound

How do I silence notifications?
I have been looking around the settings and cannot find a way to silence the notification sound for SMS's, emails, etc. On stock Android most applications have a ringtone called "Silent" or something to that effect. On the HOS I cannot find it. I feel stupid asking this, but hopefully I am not the only one that is new to Sense and does not know where this is.
Thank you.

Go into sms>setting>notification>uncheck notification sound to silent sms. Then go to mail>settings>notification settings>uncheck sound notification. Hope this helps

Notifications and the phone Ringer volumes are tied together with no way to separate them. If you put the phone in silent it will silence notifications, or if you use the volume rocker on the side of the phone, notification sound volumes will decrease with ringer volume.

That is completely impractical. If I want notifications silenced, I don't want to jump through ****ing hoops like some dog & pony show, but I suppose technically you're right. As long as you don't mind all those ridiculous steps to get it done. But you can't turn notification volume down without turning ringer volume down.

hey im not htc i didnt decide to make it that way lol. i know its pretty dumb but he wants to be able to silent the sms, email, etc and thats how we have to do it. lol
An alternative solution: Try getting the app Volume Control +, set it so that ringtone volume and notification volume are not linked, and then turn down the volume on notifications all the way.
I haven't tried it, so tell us if it works for you.
I've tried with other volume control apps, and they all show different volumes for a second, but ringer and notification are always the same volume, even if the app shows them as different. I guess I'll give Volume Control+ a shot, but I would be surprised if it made a difference.

Volume Control+ & Audio Manager wont do it either.
Try this app:

Thank you for your responses and support.
I was able to disable the notification sound for gmail and SMS.
However, I cannot find a way to disable the notification sound for calendar events. Does anybody know how to disable event notification sounds?
I think it is crazy that "Silent" is not an option in the default list of notification sounds. It would be the easiest way to disable all notifications in one-step.
Thank you.

[Q]Separating sound levels?

Has anyone figured out a way to make it so you can set different sounds to mute (example just notifications, which are tied to ringer, stupidly) without the sound profile for the entire phone changing to silent? If I set ringer to silent, everything but alarms and media are silenced, which is ****ing annoying. If I want everything silenced I'll set the silent profile mutt self. Really all I want is a way to control the different sound levels like an adult who knows the difference between ringer and notification volumes.
I've tried multiple third party apps, they are all limited to the way sound are handled natively, and can't override the auto-silent mode setting. I need a root solution, like a modified settings app, but unfortunately no one makes those for odexed ROMs, and I'm in stock T-Mo US...

Quick settings in the store. Used it for ages. Works perfectly for that. Only thing is that ringer and notifications are still tied together. But that's ICS, so you don't really get a choice.

Yeah, noticed that. Was going someone fixed it like in AOKP. But it might not matter for long since I'm having AOKP withdrawals, so I'm probably going to flash it soon. I was trying to stay as close to stock as possible but there are just too many little things about sense that irritate me, and now this.

Ringtone/Notification Volume Question?

I have tried to search for this but haven't really found any solution. On my previous android phones when I go into work or somewhere that I want my phone on vibrate I would just simply hold the Vol Down key until it goes to Vibrate and everything would be silenced (ringtones, notification tones, etc.) but when I got phone calls, text, etc it would vibrate.
For some reason on this phone when I do this it doesn't control the individual "Notification" volume, so I have go in and manually control that myself. I guess for some people this might be useful to manually control them individually but to just quickly silence the normal things like ringtones & notifications. For me personally it's quite annoying to have to deal with them on an individual basis.
Thanks in advance to anyone that can help me out on this!
I'm also curious about this. I do the same thing. I put my phone on vibrate when I get to work which silences the ringer but if I do something else (I often play ads in Viggle for bonus points) that volume is untouched and must be silenced on its own...
I'm using CM10 currently. Not sure if this differs between roms.

Is there a settings / sound / volumes / link ringtone and notifications check box?
I haven't had either issue. If mine is on vibrate that's all it does, if silenced it's all silenced. Hmm.
Have you guys tried using a widget or the notification toggle?

Thanks Romman0! That option is not available, but just your keyword of "link" enabled me to find an app that does exactly what I needed! :good:

Would anyone be interested in a widget for this? I could get right onto developing it if there's a demand for it.
