Make Flashing Easy with Dropbox - General Topics

One of the best tools I have found for flashing ROMs/MODs to my phone is Dropbox.
I can download the latest release from my home PC, save it to my dropbox account, and get it quickly when I get to work!
If anyone is looking for 2GB of free online storage that you can access from any OS (computer or phone) sign up for Dropbox: http://db.tt/DhSdics

...is this just an excuse to post your DB referral link?

Maybe 2GB is not enough for him?
To the author - have you read newest rules of dropbox? If not, do it. DB can take your work and modify it to they needs.

There are two ways I flash and your method is my second choice because it has two extra steps.
1.) Read it Later or Chrome-to-Phone to send the desktop link to phone for a direct download. Root Explorer to move the files where needed. Flash.
2.) Download on desktop. Upload to Dropbox. Download on phone. Root Explorer to move the files where needed. Flash.

Yeah I know alot of roms that only use Dropbox to flash... I dunno I really don't like using programs like Rom Manager and Dropbox to flash.. I run into errors. I use my Dream_RA Recovery to flash. The worst part is that Clockwork doesn't work on HTC Dream 32a's. I've also experience problems with Dropbox. My final verdict... I don't think Dropbox is that amazing..

New ROM!!! - TechLust ver1 BETA <SJK> - Help me cook better!

Hey Wing Nuts! Sorry... I'll never make that joke again...
I'm new to cooking, so I need help. This is my first ROM. I have done minimal testing and have made no changes as of yet. I'm hoping a couple of you can help me figure out what to add, change, or remove from this ROM and work out any of the other bugs so I can get better at making them.
The goal of this build was to make something aesthetically pleasing, not too stripped, and still lightweight enough to make the most of the limited space on the P4350.
This build is for the Wing only (Herald keyboard is not supported) and was designed for use with an RUU. I have no idea if it will actually work via SD re-flash, but if you decide to try, let me know.
Any and all help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Message me to get a DL link.
On a side note, does anybody know how to add CABs into SJK so I can cook them into ROMs?
Maybe I can post the link like this...
Code:
Go to mediafire and use the following extensions, but replace the commas with slashes:
,file,widwm4iji4y,T L ver 1 - BETA.nbh
If you want, follow my guide in my sig to learn how to utilize .cab files in your building experience.
I'll also give the ROM a run and test it out for you.
Please also do me a favor and let me download your kitchen .erv file so I can help you better..
Navigate to C:\kitchens\SuperJustKitchen\Working_Folder\TOOLS\RomSaved and you'll see the saves that you saved.. If you didn't save, try to mimic your ROM again in the kitchen and save for me and then upload it here in a .zip file.
I think I understand. I'm cooking a new version right now, so I'll get those files to you as soon as it's done. I'm using the most recent version of SJK, just fyi (the one based in osKitchen1.0). I know where the .fe file is, but I don't have a Working_Folder in my SJK files...
I tried using your guide, but the pictures you have posted don't match what I see, so it confuses me...
My kitchen files are based off of Bebe's kitchens. I have links on my guide on the first post of that thread.
What build are you using?
Version 7. And in my guide I have all the Sys & Xip files that are also up to date too.
lol @ "wingnut." Made me chuckle.
So, update...
Recent computer issues have lost me some cooking time...
Also, when trying to cook the new ROM, SJK seems to have lost a file that is integral to the creation of a new rom, so I have to go back and find it in the original .7z files.
I also installed Ivan's JustStable5 Micro onto the test wing, and now it won't accept a reflash either through SD or RUU. So I have to work on that issue as well. I'll let you know when we're back up and running.
Otherwise, any existing feedback on the ROM will be helpful before the new version is finished. Thanks everyone!
New Release
Ok, so all off the issues I was having have been solved. I've switched to bebe's kitchen (thanks Trib!) with Ivan's files and have a new version uploaded. Link below.
Changes:
Some icons changed to fit theme. More to come!
Custom splash animation added.
(Trib, how do I change the ugly orange Windows image, as well as get rid of the greenscreen startup?)Rid ROM of several useless files and added a few new ones.
ROM size dropped 20MB (From 77MB to 57MB)
After Flash:
Storage Memory:
Total: 45.92
In Use: 7.64
Free: 38.28Program Memory:
Total: 49.83
In Use: 40.42
Free: 9.41
Code:
http rghost net,1487003

Thanks Trib. I actually like Bebe's version better...
You're welcome. I feel bebes is easier to work with..
I'll get the save file uploaded soon. There's an issue that I noticed with the "incoming caller" icon not showing. I modified it so that the sihlouette(sp?) is outside the original square size, but not outside the original image size? Is that a picture demension issue?
Archive your complete working_folder for me and upload. I'd like to see all files so I can help..
Unfortunately, the work computer isn't working again. I've never gotten so many BSODs in my life without any real explaination as to the problem. It seems to do it whenever it feels like it.
Anyways, I digress, I'll get you the working folder as a 7z asap. Post any thoughts you have on the ROM in the meantime.
Hey, I can't get the file to upload to rghost. I zipped it with "ultra" compression. Should I have done something different?
Use mediafire or 4shared or megaupload then.. I have an account with all of them.
Is it normal that the WorkingFolder.7z file is over 300MB?
Yeah, that's nothing.. My kitchen is over 3 gigs - thats 3072 MB's , lol.
So, I'm trying to work with rghost, filefactory, and megaupload all at the same time, but none seem to be actually accomplishing the upload. wtf.

[Q] Load Programs?

Ok, new to all this. I have a Sprint HTC Touch Pro 2 CDMA. I flashed to an Energy Rom, looks great. Now... How do I load other software... games and such? I have looked around here, thinking it would be part of the first post, I was wrong. Perhaps this site is too advanced for that? If so, point me to a newbee site and off I shall ride. Thanks in advance for your help. This phone is awesome, and the Energy rom I loaded, looks sweet.

well. there is the microsoft marketplace. or .cab files.
.cab file instructions...
one. download application's .cab file. suggested list of applications can be found here.
two. move the .cab onto your phone's storage card.
three. on your phone, navigate to the .cab file with file explorer, or other like program.
four. open .cab file.
five. choose installation location. device or storage card.
six. select install.
seven. enjoy.
and i havent ever used marketplace before...
i always find the .cab file.
sh4d0w86.
Not to make fun, but it is pretty surprising the you are able to unlock the phone and reflash the OS, but can't install software.
If you search this site, Microsoft Marketplace, or just do a Google for "Windows Mobile freeware", you'll find many thousands of apps. Find the app you want, copy or download the .CAB file to the TP2, and execute it.
For example, Google "Google Mobile Maps", download the Windows Mobile .CAB file, and run it.
Thanks
Well, the instructions to flash a phone are detailed and many. One problem I had was I was dropping the 7zip file onto the phone. Also, I could not unzip the file with the extension of 7z because I did not have the correct unzip manager. Another issue was I was trying to Sync the programs to the phone. Thanks for clearing it up. Is there a logical place to put them on the phone to make them run fast? Thanks in advance.

Installing to main (internal) memory is much faster than installing to the SD (external) memory. Installing large programs to the SD card is the general rule of thumb for obvious reasons. It's up to you where you prefer to install them.
If you mean where should you put the actual *.cab files, then you could always delete them once they've been installed. You don't need them again unless you're going to flash constantly. It's always good to back them up, so storing them on your PC or the SD card would be preferable.
Thanks a bunch!
well, check out this thread..........
cabs just load on the phone and run like any program, just find the file and click it. exe's need to run from windows (regular computer) and install through activesync.

Excellent Thread!!!!!!!! I too made all those mistake and diddn't know how to load .cab files. This is my first foray into modding phones so this thread was quite informative.

[Q] Content not supported on Galaxy Tab???

I am trying to figure out how to install reader's hub ( i have asked several questions, but I can't get anyone to help me). I have a US Sprint Tab. Each time I try to download the files, they download unsucessfully, and give me the error message "content not supported". This seems to only be true for rar files, as I have downloaded the readers hub zip file just fine. I currently have apk installer, Explorer, and Andro zip installed. Can someone please help me???
Hi,
As far as im aware even though androzip supports the rar files, it does not associate itself with the samsung tab explorers launcher for that file type.
If you extract this in the androzip itself and then browse to the contents you extracted that should work that way.
Wish you luck, let us know how you get on

Thanks for your reply. I would love to try thatm, but the tab wont even let me download the file. The thing is, I already have the files I need to get the readers hub, but I can't get it to install. Well, I can install the press Display and the Kobo, but the readers hub wont install. And although the Press Display and Kobo say they are installed, I don't see them anywhere on my tab.
Ahh OK, sorry to have misread the problem ...Have you access to a PC? as you could download and send. ...if not link me up ill download and make it a zip for you (my racing team dr-ukr has a server i can upload to for storage).
Alternatively try another browser, i've not yet tried the others but mayb it's jsut the Samsung modded browser that cannot support the download?
Ill post back if i get to test that first in Dolphin HD/Opera/Fennec beta etc..

Do I have to root my tab in order to install readers hub? Now I'm reading the rooting app has been removed, so rooting may not be possible.
Sorry i do not know about rooting, i am still on stock firmware and not wanting to blow my warranty yet. (allthough it will happen in the end) ... i have my nokia n900 for all the playing about for now (i'm confident with it and the tab is my first android).
Wish you luck and pretty sure the others here will help out

I was having the same problem. I tried opera browser and it let me download the files. The stock browser is junk.
Go to market and download "Download all Files", works perfect on GT.

Create own Rom

It seems to create your own rom is more involved than I thought. I knew I should have learned linux. I wanted to fool around and use different browser .apk files from one rom to another. I messed around with this when I had my blackberry. It also seems like its easier to brick your droid. With blackberry I had a list of .cods same as .apks to use. So to open your .tar or .md5 you need android-sdk and then use adb commands? Is there a list of which system files that can be changed from one update to another. I did some searching but I guess not enough. Is there a quick version to create I guess a system dump with what files that can be changed without killing you phone? From what I read you have to use Odin to extract files to your sd card then to your computer or use Sdk with commands. Once extracted to to use a browser one to another you transfer the .apk other files. Do I have the basics or is it way over my head which is why we have developers?

[Q] Multipart Archive File

I would like to create a .ZIP file of a large folder of files (~6 GB). In order to meet the upload requirements of a cloud service I use, the largest a single file can be is 1 GB. So, I need to create a multipart .ZIP file with each part being say, 512 MB.
I have found a few apps that say they can do this. The other requirement I have is that the process has to be either scriptable or automated in some way. That part I can't seem to figure out how to accomplish.
I have Tasker and I'm rooted so I hope there is a way to do this.
Thanks for any pointers, links, app suggestions, etc.

Search RAR in the play store. It might do what you want. Unfortunately it can only be in the .rar format.

Use WinRAR software to create a multipart RAR file and also choose self-extract option while creating part.
There will be one of all parts which is used to extract all parts automatically but you have to place all parts in same folder for extraction.
Then upload each part into cloud .

An .RAR is fine...I should have mentioned that it doesn't have to be a .ZIP.
I do see that this app will create a multipart .RAR but I don't see how to do this in an automated fashion...?

I have a Tasker profile that creates a TWRP Nandroid backup using Online Nandroid Backup. Then, I'm using FolderSync to upload the backup to one of the cloud services. Since the service I'm using has a 1 GB single file size limit, the upload fails.
So, what I need is a shell script (or Tasker plug-in) that can combine all of the files in the TWRP Nandroid into a multipart archive. I have to be able to add the shell script/plug-in to the tasks for this profile. I would insert it in between the Nandroid backup and the cloud sync.
HTH clear it up a bit.
