Hi,
Just bought one of these handsets, it's on Orange in the UK and I was wondering on the best way to unlock for use on GiffGaff / o2
You can buy an unlocking code from Orange. Without root you cannot simunlock the device.
You can root it with xtc clip but it ll cost more than the code...

Hmm, do any of these sites works? unlocking.com seems reputable!
Orange can provide you with the code.

Just to update this, a seller on ebay sold me a code for £13.45 and it worked fine.
Better than the £20 from orange (3months minimum) or £35 in local stores.

Hi
Anyone successfully unlocked their Desire S to use with a different sim card?
me - is the same like any other htc. I bought the code from htcimeiunlock.com
I have a Desire S from Austria and it didn't work by code because the provider (T-Mobile) changed it!
There must be a free way to do this, surely?
dont think so, need either paid for unlock code or xtc clip as i am aware.
just a heads up....if you are a customer of o2...they will unlock the phone for you free of charge...i just purchased this phone off them and had it unlocked

Hey!
I had the same problem! I have a Desire S that was branded and locked by T-Mobile Austria. After searching all over the internet i got a good adress in Schwechat. The guy there unlocked my Desire S in 10 mins. Just look it up in the forum http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1043316!

I'm considering buying the AT&T HTC One X, but I'm moving to China soon. Will I be able to carrier unlock this in some way in the next month so I can use it on, for instance, China Mobile? And if so, will I be able to take advantage of 3G?
Sorry about the noob question! I tried searching all over here and Google first but couldn't find any answers.
So far I haven't actually had much luck. I tried with cellunlocker.net and they tried multiple databases and had to refund my money.
So, hopefully a sim unlock is available via other unlockers or soon.
International one x doesn't work in china?

Bootloader is still locked. AT&T wont unlock it not yet proabaly soon. Planning to use this for Tmobile as well.
How familiar with china are you? China has their own kind of cdma and I don't know if they even have gsm carriers there. You'll need to see what kind of carrier you'll be using over there, and no there is no way to carrier unlock the one x nor will there be anytime soon.

Haven't tried them personally but

There are more sites that can do it. I've also heard of people getting the unlock code off eBay for pretty cheap. Just don't have a link for it.
And make sure you have a different companies sim in order to be able to enter the code

I have done mine here http://www.cellunlock.net/mobile/default.aspx
They charge you 10$ , once you send your MEI number they will send the unlock code in 15 min
I heard you can get it down for cheap like 3-4$ on eBay . Refer to above post

Edit: you need to post in Question&Answers thread not in General
Have you tried contacting the carrier? They usually give me the unlock code for free.
Not until at least November. That's what I was told when I called.
Hey guys,
I have an HTC Inspire 4G (Sim-locked to AT&T) that a friend has brought to South Africa, and need it to work with a local sim-card. What would be the best course of action? Would a simple root-and-custom-ROM sort it out? Should I rather just flash a different (international) stock ROM?
Thanks for any advice

I take you are looong out of contract with at&t for your inspire. Just go to at&t website and they are pretty quick about sending you unlock code by email automatically in a day or two. All you have to do is insert a new sim card and when it asks for an unlock code, just punch that 6-digit (i think) unlock code that you received by email. That is how i did mine years ago. Good luck!
