Hi!
Since I held the Desire in my hands some days ago, I am concerned that in a years future it might suffer the same problem that I had with my old TyTN II: In the (TyTN's mini- as well as in the) micro-USB slot there is a piece of plastic that holds the copper pins. And that piece had gone off.
Only since I have my Desire, I think that one of the best things of the N1 is the additional contacts on the bottom which are uses for the docking station.
Has anybody heard, read or whatever of an adaptor for the N1 docking station for the Desire?
I'm interested in this also. I am still reading all the related threads here so i am sure I will eventually see this simple answer, but for now:
Does the Nexus One also use microUSB --- same as the Desire? Or does the Nexus One use miniUSB ?
This review of the Nexus One dock says it's miniUSB.
damn.

well yes i agree with you if you mean that the dock's output to the wall charger(which is located behind the dock, not the one used to connect the phone with the dock, it is the one to connect the dock to the wall charger) is using miniUSB port....for the dock from the link you've posted...
but for the Nexus One Phone's charging port, it's microUSB...
just to clarify some things as not to confuse others...

But if that's the case, then why can't we use the Nexus One dock with our Desires ?? So you have confused me!

oh sorry, i reread the link you posted and i realised that they are mistaken, it is not miniUSB for the output but indeed uses microUSB output(after i look carefully at the pictures on that website)
and why can't we use the nexus one dock??
just go to youtube.com and search for nexus one dock, the videos will show that inside the dock(the place where you place your phone in), DO NOT have a microUSB plug to connect the desire!!!
the only thing inside the dock is the 3 PINS which will only work for the nexus one because the nexus have the 3 HOLES for the pins!!
So without a microUSB plug inside the dock, the htc desire can't utilise the dock because htc desire doesn't have the 3 sexy HOLES

Three Sexy Holes -- sounds like a new screenplay for Lady Gaga but I wouldn't speculate.
Yes, I understand now, thank you for clarifying your clarification.
no problem.....
the 3 gorgeous holes were there on the htc desire prototype, but was excluded on the retail version....
3 holes that didnt make the cut.....
The headphone and power jack being on the bottom.
Makes just plopping it into a cup holder or similar space not nearly as nice for prolonged, propped up viewing of the phone.
I wish there was some way to do a 180 flip of the screen, so that it's "upside down" when the phone is also in this position.
Anyway, just had to complain. Otherwise I love this phone!

In the CM7 rom under CyanogenMod settings > Display .... the option is there and I use it.
I agree. Still carrying my captivate for podcasts till I find a decent bluetooth headset.
On another note. Running Cognition 4.1 on it (Captivate).
It rocks.

The funny thing is...it's one of the reasons I chose this phone over the Atrix. I use a windshield mount and hated that my iphone headphone cord would obstruct the view of the screen. I liked that the Inspire has a bottom port!

Is the mount you have still available? Mind linking me to it?
It also works well for carrying in your pocket. Think about it, when you reach into your pocket to pull the phone out, you'll want to grab from the bottom to the top of the phone so that when your hand comes out with the phone, the phone is already oriented for viewing (you don't have to rotate the phone 180 degrees). The way the phone is set up, you can have the cord for headphones straight down into phone and pull the phone out ready for viewing (if you want to check and email or what not). Granted, it's a bit backwards if you want to carry your phone in your car's cup holder.
Having received my transformer this morning, all I can say is i love it! however, there are definitely a few issues that are bugging me;
1. the build quality. i constantly feel where the outer rim and the back casing are supposed to join, but dont and its a constant remind of its quality
2. the dock. its brilliant but the putting the tablet into the dock is so annoying and im afraid I may end up breaking the mechanism on the dock. which leads me to my next point...
3. connectivity. the tablet actually has about as much connectivity as an ipad, which is a REAL shame. would it have been so difficult to implement a micro/usb port onto the tablet? i appreciate the sd card slot but personally I'd have preferred the micro/usb than the sd card, but hey atleast the sd card works! you cannot really experience the transformer properly without the keyboard dock so when docking the tablet I am extremely cautious incase i do do some damage.
4. trackpad. the two buttons on the trackpad also feel really cheap when pressing. I suppose this is to be expected when paying as little I have for this tablet.
My final issue, for now, is the constant freezing of the keyboard which i believe has been addressed in a firmware update in the US and not in the UK. Would be nice to get it soon! anyone know when we brits get this update, and any other update there is floating around??
there is a USB port adapter being released by Asus in the near future. Also the trackpad feels real solid to me.

my buttons on the trackpad feel really plasticy but i guess thats to be expected. although iv not spent a great deal of time with the dock, guess ill have a more informed idea in a few days

they feel like plastic but they feel robust and sturdy to me, or are you experiencing different issues?
happy with the trackpad buttons too..they're robust..
as for the docking mechanism..you'll get used to it eventually...and it's a lot easier to dock after being used for a while.
I have no problems that seriously bother me. If you don't like it there's always the option to return it. I would not keep something that bothers me that much!
I am just waiting to see if its a case of getting used to it, will only return as a very last resort because I'm very happy with the rest of the tablet as I'm sure the majority of transformer users are!
Dock is very solid. And it has usb ports so I'm confused about your review.

Excellent choice! I think it has a lot of potential. Obviously, the hardware issues won't be resolved but the software will be splendid in a few months!
U say it has as much connectivity as an iPad yet I dont see a micro sd slot ,HDMI port, or a dock slot on the iPad, can u help me find it

i think he means why didnt they add a usb to the tablet as well so if you didnt buy the dock you could have a usb port. i think it would have been a nice feature especially on the left hand side of the tablet where the power and volume buttons are. i do like the dock option especially since it adds more battery life to the tablet.
^ Actually the iPad2 has a dock slot (smartass), it's just basically a keyboard, without any of the usefullness of the TF's dock.
The dock has USB ports, yes, but the tablet itself doesn't. I can see where kashifnazir is going with this; I'd like a USB port - even a micro/mini would do - on the tablet itself as well. If I wanted to just grab something of somone's USB stick, I might not necessarily what to root in my bag for the dock every time.
Regardless, it's relatively minor. The Transformer is still the portable computer I've been waiting for since tablets first hit the market.

I sort of noticed this issue too, but try this:
Press the trackpad button all the way out on the edge. Feels cheap doesn't it? Now press the button about halfway between the edge and the rubber bumper that the screen rests on when closed. Now, it feels almost better than some netbook trackpad buttons I've used.
My thoughts after some time on the TF
Charger: It appears that the charger is marginal at best and when used to charge the TF/Dock combo with medium battery remaining the charger overheats and either dies or shuts down until it cools. I have been charging separately and if lots of charging is needed, do it in increments. Seems to work fine. Excellent biz opportunity design a 15VDC 3.0a power supply with a USB3.0 female connector.
Dust: The plastic protective cover was covered with dust when I opened the box. Luckily nothing inside the TF. ASUS needs to revisit the assy and packaging cleanliness requirements.
UI: Would be nice to have option to move soft buttons from bottom to side of screen as they are easier to access when holding the device.
Case creek. My case is solid, but I noticed that the hinge on the dock is very stiff and I can see how opening and closing the combo by pushing on the TF could easily cause considerable stress on the case causing it to flex.
Overall for an early adopted device I am impressed.

as some of the more eagle eyed readers have spotted, i was simply saying that id like a usb port on the tablet which is more useful than a hdmi and SD slot for me, thats all

Excellent question, main reason was the display and the dock and having played with both I preferred this. However, I did also blindly expect it to have one but its ok, ill just get the USB accesory so life is good

I understand, but from a business perspective, I think it would have been a horrible idea for Asus to include a USB/micro USB port on the tablet itself. They wouldn't have the potential to sell nearly as many docks, and getting consumers to buy both parts is how they've chosen to market the Transformer.

My wife has a My Touch 4G Slide, and I have a Sensation. I was taking a look at our batteries today, and both our our OEM batteries have the exact same model number, and look and feel exactly the same...with one exception that I could find: the metal contacts on the bottom of the battery are on the opposite side of each battery, relative to the "HTC" logo on the "front" of the battery. If you flip one battery over, so the "small print" is facing up, and the align it with the other battery, I have a hard time telling the difference.
Before I place one of these batteries in the opposite phone and cause the polar ice caps to melt down, can anybody confirm that I can swap these batteries between the phones with no issues?
I'll keep scouring the XDA forums and the rest of the interweb thingies, but I haven't found an answer yet.
Thanks.
I did this going from my old incredible to a g2. I just flipped the battery around, cut the corners down and plugged it in. Worked just fine.

I'm scared that my hair will fall out, or tsunamis will hit several major cities around the world! Well, maybe not THAT scared.
Make sure the polarities are going the right way.
HTC Sensation, HTC Evo 3D, and HTC MyTouch 4G Slide stock batteries are all interchangeable. The similar-sized extended batteries (the ones that don't require a new back cover) also work too, to my knowledge.
Well the Evo 3D and Sensation batteries are swapable so guess that would me the same for the Sensation and myTouch. I have a sensation and my wife has the MT4G... why would you want to swap?
Edit--- nevermind just realized you said MT4G Slide...
I've switched the 2 batterys with no problems

Hi ,
I've just posted the MONTAR by winnergear in the top3 accessories post , definitely worth a shot
I'd recommend buying an Exogear and being done with it! Exogear makes awesome mounts, and they'll hold many devices with or without a case!

I recommend the Oso Mount. This can be used in 2 ways:
1 - sticky side on your windscreen/dash and clamp on your phone (up to 5 inch wide)
2 - sticky side to the back of a tablet and clamp on car vents
This is version 2 at £19:

Version 1 is £14
I had the ibolt for the s3 already and it fits great and has room for a case but for some reason I can not get it to charge and output audio to my stereo. Loved my mount when i had my s3 but anyone know what would cause it to not charge or output audio. Is this the same problem you are having with your mount?
There are plenty of threads already about this exact topic on this section, and if you had searched, you would have found my review of the iBolt..... no need for a new thread asking when you could do the research and find which one works best for you!

on the note 2 i dont think so..
dont think it blocks it on the S4 either but i dont have the phone yet (waiting on my verizon pre-order). makes no mention of it on their website or in the reviews
Just took the mount out for a test drive. I stuck the suction cup to my dash and Im surprised how sticky it was. Totally wasn't moving. Also it doesn't block the camera on my nexus so definitely won't block it on the note 2 or S4. Best 20 bucks I spent on a car mount ever

The pictures on the website show that it might partially block the power and volume rocker? I wonder if that would be an issue for the S4? I also wonder how hard it clamps down on the phone when it is placed into the mount. The video on the website only shows a bunch of pictures, not a real-time demonstration. Other than those issues, it looks promising.

testing it with my nexus, it does not block the power button but it does cover about half if not more of the volume rocker. dont have my S4 yet, so i cant fully test it.
I ordered this one from Cdiscount Grip Phone : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Po5Xsz1MiE last week, it should arrive soon...
it has good reviews, seems non dependant on the device you own (hope it'll hold as fine with my note 8 also, would be great...)
so from the looks of it and even if the arm could have been longer, i would recommend this mount..

I've had experience with those green polymer mounts. They're fine when the weather is about 70s and lower. Once summer hits and it bakes in ur car it becomes sticky and there is residue. Basically gummy..I threw mine out.
