I have yet to find a rom that truly reports that it is an Inspire 4g. All roms display to everything as a Desire system. Even the patches or fixes that are supposed to work don't. clockwork, android apps market, and just about everything else except the about section says so also. Is there a rom out there that is really inspire? even inspire based are not really based enough for other programs to think so.
Did you try clearDroid?

There's a mod in the Dev sub-forum that fixes the branding for CM7, mine identifies itself as an Inspire 4g.

Inspired Ace reports "Inspire 4G" just fine, so far as I've been able to tell.
(Still haven't quite figured out what the compulsion is with this, but that's ok. In the grand scene of things, it seems rather unimportant.)
+1 for Inspired Ace. One of my favorite roms
I'm on Virtuous Unity 1.26 and mine shows up as Inspire 4G as well.

EDIT: IT'S NOT WORKING ANY LONGER
Original Post
In case anyone missed it, this is working fine on the Evo, including streaming, so it might work on others phone as well!
LINK
Seems to be working only on some devices. Different ROMS are making a difference as well. Please specify which ROM you are using.
Working list:
* HTC Evo 4G (Azrael ROM)
* HTC Droid Incredible
* Nexus S (CM7 rom)
* myTouch 4G
* Nexus 1
* T-Mobile G2 (CM7 rom)
* Samsung Captivate (CM7 rom)
installs great on my LG Optimus V. And even buffers any movie, but there is just a black screen and no audio.
Installs on my Droid 2 Global, but logs in and quits to home screen.
Likely, this requires an HTC device to work, as they are the only manufacturer with hardware that complies with Netflix's DRM technology (or so I gathered).
Works on my Droid Incredible! OMG YES! This is AWESOME!
Dell Streak - Installs.. Able to Log in.. Choose a movie.. Plays for about 2 secs then exits back to the Netflix Home Screen :-(
Snapdragon FTW!
Not working on inspire 4g plays audio but has white screen

Edit: Wont even open on my Galaxy S 4G.
Not working on G Tablet
Rom - VEGAN Gingerbread Experimental
Captivate: App launches, but as soon as you put in valid login info and hit sign in, the app crashes right to homescreen. No FC, no error.
it's a no-go on the galaxy s vibrant... app closes after login
Working on my sexy nexy 1 , but not my Nook color. Wont even install.

I can confirm IT DOES WORK on the Samsung Captivate with CM7 ROM ONLY!
Well I see all these roms out for the leaked 2.3.3 and then I see CM7. I've never used CM7, so I'm.not aware of the differences. Could someone shed some light for me and possibly direct me towards me

Well...
The leaked 2.3 Roms have sense 2.1.
CM7 is built from source to be like vanilla android, but there are more options.
I've tried a few of the GB/Sense rom's and I've been on CM7 since nightly 17, now on RC3.
Its more of a matter of appearance, I've tried a lot of them and I prefer CM7 builds, but I use Sense sometimes, as well as MIUI, which also has a 2.3 build.
Its a brilliant community and the developers for the desire HD/inspire have turned out some amazing quality rom's.

Well question is what's the difference between sense 2.0 and 2.1? I just want opinions and what everyone seems to prefer. I'm looking for a nice look with good download / upload speeds.

The differences between sense 2.0 and 2.1 aren't that big, but there is a settings tab in the notification pull down and a tweaked app drawer that has favorite and downloaded app tabs.
That's really it aesthetically, but under the hood its made to work with android 2.3.
They are all test builds though, you could try an optimized stock rom with sense 2.0 and froyo?
There are a lot of options now and more to come.

Hello all, let me start off saying that I just bought my first android phone ever. I tried to download apps for it using the "Market" app and the phone asked for my gmail account which entered. I have been able to download some apps I needed so far, but when I tried to search for the Netflix app, the one from Netflix Inc was not showing up.
So now I logged into the marketplace on my laptop using my Gmail account and when I try to install, I see an option to choose my device, when I look at the devices listed under my account, I just see a HTC Desire HD (which happens to be unfit for this app). So how do I get my device as Inspire 4G there gentlemen. I have never used a HTC Desire HD and have no idea why the marketplace is doing this.
Desire HD is same build like the HTC inspire.

Your Inspire IS a Desire HD (just rebadged for US) and that's what the market thinks it is. And as a side note, Inspire will not run netflix anyway (unless you've got CM7 build 77 or later I think).
Netflix isnt available in the market..... Yet

This is true
Apparently the update that's coming today for the TPGB ROM has netflix working as well (it's built off of CM7)
I don't get it. I just installed the device check disabled Netflix apk from here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1076150) on a device that's a year and a half old (LG GW620 Eve) with less 238mb internal and can only be overclocked to 710mhz, and it's working fine. It's also running a CM7 based ROM released 5/14. Obviously our Inspire's are 10x more powerful than this, why doesn't it work?
Thanks guys. I just checked Netflix website for their supported devices list and found that HTC Inspire is not listed on it. As long as I am not the only one that cannot use it, I am good
Any chance Netflix is adding more android devices?

It seems that the stock Inspire and most of the derivative ROMs are missing a few libraries that implement the correct codec for netflix. I'm guessing a fix will be rather simple once the library files are figured out.

Right - being that it's working on CM7 and TPGB 0517 (according to testers), I can't imagine it will be long before all chefs are able to incorporate the proper files into their ROMs. The question is will there be an OTA update for non-rooted users to provide Netflix functionality, or is the Inspire just going to be forgot about?
I worry about the Inspire for the simple fact that it wasn't a groundbreaking device. Although it's an amazing device with which I would never want to part, it wasn't really offering anything new, which leads to my fear that it's going to be forgotten about by the bigwigs (HTC, ATT, Netflix, etc) before our devices have fully had a chance to shine...

It is my understanding, from all the tech sites, that Netflix is individually testing every single device. I think it has something to do with their version DMLA, or whatever it is. They will announce more devices eventually. They are just shooting themselves in the foot by testing each device one by one.

@David yes you can install dhd roms. Though you might have to install one of those audio fix like tinyaudio fix or turbo audio fix. If they are not allready included in the roms

I'm honestly not being a smarta** or anything but that was stated in several posts about 11 hrs and 30 min before yours. Keepin the thread goin is always good. Unfortunately around here in our forums I've seen several ignorant posters that cant seem to understand that the Inspire 4G is the Desire HD.
I'm currently using coredroid for this phone. I like it alot it looks verily slick and runs very fast. I love the whole theme, but wouldn't mind changing a few things. My question is, is it possible to retheme this rom and is there a better and more popular Tom for this phone out there?

Since you are already using Coredroid, you might want to try out Android Revolution: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=964841
This and coredroid are some of the most popular.
On a separate note- are you experiencing any hissing/pop sounds coming from your speakers (3 secs) after pausing or exiting any audio media? I'm just curious if this is an issue all Coredroid v7.6 users have or if it is just me.
I'm a huge fan of the honey roms (honey3D, honeysense, and their upcoming release).
Posted with my model confused HTC Inspire via XDA premium.
So I've noticed that we have three UI's to choose from. Sense, stock(ASOP) and MIUI. How come we don't other choices like touchwiz or Motorola custom UI?
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA App
That is due to none of those will work on devices not made for it. Samsung and TW. Moto and blur. HTC and sense. Hope that helps
I actually wonder if anyone has even tried to make it happen.

I'm sure they've tried many times on multiple kinds of devices (I know 2 teams that tried to port sense to the cappy I don't think they got anywhere near a stable release) its just a whole lot more effort than a rom made for your phone
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using XDA App
its more than just the OS. those UI's arent just skins. they rely heavily on kernel support, and the framework is deeply integrated and dependent upon the core device. sense relies on it being HTC, TW relies on it being samsung, and blur relies on motorola....
Back in the day when I had the original droid i remember seeing a sense rom made for it. I never used it or even thought about it since it was pretty unstable. But I guess it is possible, just impracticle and way too much work for all the super awesome devs.
actually there is a motorola ui rom for the evo 4g.

No working data/wifi/camera, probably no working Bluetooth, its about the same stage that most of the UI ports get to before its realized that its beyond hope or the devs have worked on it so long that they grow tired of working on it.
