YouTube video running, makes the phone running REALLY SLOW!!! - HTC Sensation

Hey everytime I'm watching a video on YouTube through the YouTube app, it makes the phone incredibly slow, the video and sound runs as it should, but the app it self runs slow and when I lock
and unlock the phone, the silver "unlock ring" moves really slow, it can't even catch up to my finger...
I've tried running full flash content from the browser, and that works well.
Anyone else got this problem?

I don't think this is an issue with the phone. I think it has to do with too many RayWJ videos.

He was just being silly.
I watch a ton of youtube on mine and it operates very well. Always high quality also. If I lock the screen... sure it might give me some lag unlocking. Same thing if I do it during a 3d game. I wouldn't consider this unusual as the youtube or game was properly sucking up all the system resources it could handle.

I don't know what you guys are talking about. It doesn't lag for me. Check Task Manager to see what's running and end all applications besides Youtube.

Yeah, keep your mouth shot. But seriously, it's just you dude. Try rebooting your phone.

I can confirm the OP's findings. I too experience the same issue when using YouTube to listen to some random songs. I lock my phone after the song loads. When I try to unlock my phone it is very laggy and it feels as if the phone is using a lot of memory when it really isn't.

You Tube
Being watching lots of clips using You tube no issues. I have an issue with the sound quality. Anyone having this issue?

Tonight I made a little video of the phone running in slow motion while playing a YouTube video.

To stream and buffer your phone IS using memory. Where do you think it stores the data? Videos aren't small.
I didn't know youtube streamed music. Are you talking about music videos?

That performance didn't look horrible. You are streaming fyi. I don't know about you but when I watch a video... I actually like to WATCH the video... full screen. If I need to do other crap with my phone I'll just pause and do other stuff.

Something ia weird with the ICS update

The ICS update messed sth up with the video playback, when watching a video from either youtube app or gallery the screen brightness drops down if u turn the device in landscape mode (notice that i have ensured tht auto brightness is OFF)
Anybody elese?

No issues on any of the custom roms I've tried.
hm.. srange issue. I didn't noticed any of this while watching videos..
Happened to me today while whatching a video with MX Player. But nothing in Youtube app.
Also another backlight bug: I have my backlight set at 2/3. After I exit camera it doesb't go back to 2/3, it stays at 100%. If I try to set it back from the Sense widget it just acts weird. A lock/unlock does the trick.

the whole ICS thing is weird, Go Launcher went nuts and keeps freezing, Android Widgets PRO doesnt work, battery is dry in no time, cant catch any radio station anymore, mobile podcast doesnt work, contract groups duplicated, this ICS is acting hilarious ... at least by me
Yeah, tried stock ICS in unrooted ROM. The backlight will suddenly brighten up on me.
Stock Sense based ROMs have a few bugs with autobrigtness. This bug has existed since this device ran gingerbread.
Did you check whether you cover the light sensor with your hand while in landscape watching videos?
Edit: you said you do not have autobrightness...sorry :banghead:

This is a feature, not a bug. It becomes a bug if/when it turn automatic brightness to full brightness and you have to re-set it on automatic in settings like it often happened on GB. Didn't notice this on ICS (ROM in my signature) 'til now.

When I was using GB, brightness turned to 100% when I opened camera and went back to my setting when I closed it.
Same thing in ICS except it goes back to my setting only when I lock/unlock the phone.
But the brightness turning to 100% when I pen the camera isn't a bug. It's supposed to do this. Not going back to my setting is a bug.

On both gingerbread and ICS builds it would not revert back to the previous brightness level for me. I was experiencing a bug. I KNOW it is supposed to crank up the brightness on certain applications. NOT reverting the brightness back is what was happening.
I'm experiencing exactly the same thing as the first poster. After the update, video playback will lose brightness and colour contrast and then magically "pop" back when I try to reset the brightness (even though it still shows as maximum, i.e. dropping brightness from an indicated 100% to 99% will cause it to become brighter!). I emailed MoboPlayer to ask them whether it was something wrong with their ICS implementation before realizing that it was happening on every player.
It's really annoying! (Maybe it's time to CyanogenMod it ...)
Stace.
I have experienced this with ALL ICS ROMS. Sometimes is happens, and sometimes it doesn't. Only bug I have in ARHD.

Im having the same problem as the original poster. Happens with 720p videos.
HTC says every sensation has this issue and its normal.Unfortunately i cant post. Here is a link to two videos. goo.gl/ nHNG4 (no space). One is of my sensation playing tricks on me and the other is the video i played. Can someone confirm that they have the same issue playing this video? Note that you have to set brightness at maximun. I tried other players and SD cards and still the same issue. I have ICS 4.0.3.

Bad Audio Quality. Cracks. Muddy bass. Pandora issues.

Hey, I'm loving everything about this phone besides it's audio. Like the title says, the bass is muddy and I hear random pops and cracks. Pandora also skips every third song or randomly stops regardless of data or WiFi connection. I'm coming from the Samsung captivate and haven't had these issues.
Pandora is the app I use most which is pretty frustrating. Anyone know any kind of fix or having similar problems?

i don't have any of the audio issues. pandora does suck pretty badly. like you said, every third song (sometimes every other song) will just pause and 'buffer' forever.
could be a pandora/ICS issue or a pandora/one x issue, don't know which, though

I'm guessing your battery is less than 40% in which case the HOX goes in to a pretty aggressive power saving scheme.
It does? Where did you see this or get this info

It's well known if you do the advanced power menu mod you can see for yourself. For instance - the phone operates on single core only and that one core is downclocked to 1ghz max. Aggressive enough for you? Run a benchmark at 50% battery and then the same benchmark at 25% battery....
Huh that's kinda crazy to know thanks. Kinda piss me off though restricting our phones cores etc....
Beaups that's some crazy info but considering how fast this phone is, I won't worry about it. But yeah, the mem management is crazy.
I just tried out the iHeartRadio app which seems like Pandora with more features. So far the audio seems way better and it hasn't skipped or randomly paused a song yet and this is on data. This may be my new go to app.

YouTube video playback

Has anyone experienced any issues with playback? it's not laggy but slows down at one point (about 2 seconds of video) then speeds up to catch up. It's not too obvious, my sister didn't even notice it. I've also tried playing back recorded videos and streaming movies from the browser with no issues. I've also tried uninstalling updates and reinstalling YouTube app..with no success. Hopefully someone can help, or maybe I should try one of these new roms...hmm?

This is my only issue with this phone; everything works great except youtube playback. The lagging then catching up is really noticeable and distracting. I thought it was my network connection for the longest time, I'm so glad it's not just me. It's kind of ridiculous, this device should be able to handle a simple youtube video. I'm glad I know now at least I didn't get a defective phone. Hopefully someone somewhere will be able to come up with a fix/mod for this. I never would of purchased this phone if I knew I couldn't properly watch a youtube video. :/
Really sucks...I feel you.

I haven't noticed anything. YouTube video playback is working flawlessly. I played numerous videos and closely observed the first 5 seconds of playback. I haven't noticed any slow down, speed up, or lag. I'm also running Stock.

Don't have this problem either. Even when playing HQ. If it slows down than it's the data, not playback quality. I do notice that this stock ROM is slower with download speeds. My G2x is faster when downloading content and it's only 14 Megabits per second, theoretically.

Ah, never mind! I now understand. I noticed it when I selected to play a different time duration of the video. It slows down, and catches up. I thought you meant that you noticed it during the beginning of the video. For me it only happens when you skim to a different part of the video. I also compared it using Google Chrome on my PC, and there is definitely a difference.

[Q] Autofocus

So im thinking about getting a nexus 5 but I want to know if the autofocus issue was ever fixed?? I love taking photos and videos but if the autofocus makes the camera not really useable in a lot of circumstances then I probably wont get it. Tried to find another thread to see if this problem was corrected by developers via a rom or a flash or if it is hardware related.
I have never had an issue. And I take plenty of photos.

+1 for photos. Not for video though. The autofocus is terrible in videos. It's constantly focusing every 2-3 seconds and it makes the video look really odd.
To OP: No, it hasn't been fixed.
The videos I have taken look just fine. I have a puppy and took videos of her running in the snow and they all came out good.

Notice the "pulsing" every 2-3 seconds? That's what I mean. If yours doesn't have that, that's good, but most of us have that problem. I guess it's only noticeable when you don't move the camera.
So based that it is feburary, I'm assuming this is a hardware issue. The video breathing problem is ridiculous and also happens on the Nexus 5. That's my concern. If it has been solved in a rom, then perfect, but if this problem is unfixable then thats a dealbreaker for me. I do alot of videos with my phone and I dont want to pay for a $600 phone if I cant do something basic as record videos on it.

If you are that interested in videos, you should consider in investing an actual video camera. Phones aren't really meant to meet the standards of camcorders and other video capture devices, rather than to just catch an interesting moment of someones live with a casual photo/video. I know it sounds rather inconvenient and superficial, but thats just my two cents on the subject.
Edit: I've never had trouble with the breathing video. But then again I don't really use that option that much.
I can't reproduce the refocus whilst holding it still / panning left or right. I can only reproduce it if I move the lens further or nearer to the object. Not a tiny amount that's analogous with a slight wobble or the human conditions rather feeble attempt at stillness - no. I have to almost exaggerate the movement to trigger autofocus
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
for me it refocuses evety time i move the phone, left/right, up/down, or further/closer. but it doesnt refocus at all when im moving.
not to be graphic but I filmed a video of some dirty deeds and quality was awesome. phone was not moving. I believe some roms have more issues then others. some roms the video is extremely dark and some roms when I take a camera picture with flash is snaps the photo to fast and just captures the flash.
