Really strange repeating text...from 1969! HELP! - T-Mobile LG G2x

The other day I went to unlock my phone and it wouldn't respond at all, no backlight at all. I tried holding down lock button to reboot but still nothing, so I pulled the battery. After it rebooted, I had a text notification (i use handcent). This is what the notification bar read:

Going into the handcent convo list, I see this message from "Anonymous", notice the date of receipt:
Uploaded with ImageShack.us[/IMG]
When I click the convo I'm taken to an empty message, no text at all. Also, I cannot delete the thread, nor can I blacklist it, choosing either of the options does nothing. I've tried erasing it in stock messaging too-nothing! The most annoying part of the whole thing is that all day long I keep getting text notifications for this same message! What the hell is going on?!

I think those are messages from T-Mobile...in your specific case, it seems to be messages regarding your visual voicemail. I have no clue beyond that, but I would just delete them...I get them regularly from T-Mobile, for various reasons...and they always from some random numbered sender, like 4444, or 5117, etc.
And check and see if you have a setting in handcent that automatically adds a contact for any messages from senders not already in your contact list.
Oh, and your screen blacking out and not being able to turn back on is a different issue alltogether. I don't know what rom or kernal you're using, but on MY particular phone, which does not handle overclocking or undervolting well, if I undervolt the low frequencies, I get that problem. Also, some kernals have the low-end frequency set at 216. On my phone, I've found that if I keep it at 216, I get those problems...so I bump it up to 312 or higher, depending on the rom. And then adjust my screen-off profiles in setcpu accordingly. Of course, it could just be a bad flash in your case, as well. Just things to look into and test.
Hope this helps.
P.S. : I'm an idiot, because I didn't even realize the issue with the text being dated 1969, lol...sorry for my irrelevant rantings.

Linux time starts on the day after 12/31/1969.
Maybe you can run a SMS backup, wipe all SMS messages, check the backup for this phantom thread and delete it. Then run a restore.

I've been getting these since yesterday too. Some have my contacts names on them. They won't delete also. I'm using handcent.

Odd. I got this 2 days ago along with a few other blank messages from "211" and friends from 1969 time stamp. They never went away. What I had to do was go into Titanium, backup and wipe the SMS/MMS/APN Dial Storage data. When looking into the MMSSMS.db file that was backed up, it was a gaggle **** in there. A LOT of old text messages I thought were deleted, but weren't. I can only assume it's an error with the mmssms data base.
Since the wipe, there has been no anonymous 1969 texts that re-accrue.

Had same problem and did a battery pull with phone on then reinstalled battery and powered on. Then I could delete but had to delete all threads. So far no more problems.

[APP] android-smspopup

Firs off, I am NOT affiliated with this project at all - It is something I ran across, have been using it and thought I would share:
Project Name: android-smspopup
URL: http://code.google.com/p/android-smspopup/
Description:
An Android application that intercepts incoming text messages and displays them in a popup window (activity). The popup window shows the contact the message came from and their contact photo (if there is one) as well as the content of the message. Directly from the popup the user is given the option to Close the popup (marking the message read) or Reply to the message (using a system intent).
The more recent versions of SMS Popup also have a full notifications system built in - this allows a user to disable the built in messaging app notifications and use those from SMS Popup. The notifications system has additional options such as custom vibrate pattern, custom LED color and the ability to remind the user of a missed message in case they missed the notification the first time it played.
Review:
Even though it is in development stages, it is a pretty solid product.
- I love the fact that right from the pop-up notification, I can mark it read (hitting close) without going into the message and having to open yet another app.
- Pop-up shows the contact picture (if there is one) and I can tell at a glance who it is before I even read it.
- Being able to set up repeat reminders when missing messages is fantastic! Sometimes I step away and miss a text, so when I get back, at whatever interval I set it too, it re-notifies me of a message and I get the texts... Awesome!
- Here's one of my favorite ones... Custom Notification settings for contacts!! have a custom tone for my wife's text messages so I know it's her texting me. I also have one set up for other family members... Sky's the limit!
There's more and there is more coming up, so it's worth a shot.

Sounds like the same thing as SMS Popup that's on the market. Which still isn't as good as Chompsms or Handcent
It looks EXACTLY like SMS popup???
im pretty sure it is smspopup the changelog goes back to dec-2008 which is around when i found smspopup on my g1. it is a good app though i had to stop using it due to the texting while driving laws in my area im afraid the popup would count as reading the text, especially since it marks the text as read, which is just as illegal as writing one while driving.

sms errors

Not sure if anyone else has experienced this issue, but the past few days my texts have not been able to be sent. I get some SMS error and some code number. It never happened until a few days ago when it started happening probably about once a day. I had been on bamf a few days before it started, flashed the new bamf to see if that fixed it and I'm still getting the errors. It only happens when I hit send.
Anyone else experience this or know whats the deal with it?
I had this issue. I think its mainly network issues still going on. What I did was flashed back to stock radio and ran a different rom. Fixed it right up. But yes its a known issue.

Yeah Had Same Thing Happen To Me. Running Bamf Stripped V.1.1
My Thunderbolt just started doing this around 7AM this morning. I could receive text messages but when I tried to reply I got SMS Error Cause Code: 97 Error Class: 2
This happened to me before when I had a Droid Eris. No one could figure out what was wrong...Verizon sent me a new (refurb) phone - but the same thing happened. Eventually they had to send my case to Engineering before it was fixed. (which was approx. two weeks)
Not only have I lost SMS/MMS, just about 10 minutes ago I no longer have network access...
Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this?
I did a battery pull, didn't help.
I also flashed back to stock from VirusROM. No changes...
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer!
I had this issue on Friday and Saturday but seems to have resolved itself yesterday (for me).
I've been having this issue for weeks now, but only on 3 contacts. Only way I can send messages to those 3 contacts is by sending messages directly to them, if I reply via the message thread then it fails. It's been driving me nuts.
I'm having this issue as well, sms code 105, error class 2. And it's only with 1 contact, happens once in a while with others but not too often. this 1 contact though it fails 100% of the time. Along with that my 3g will just randomly drop and it will say "no data connectivity", and I then have to cycle back to 3g. It's a big time PITA, thats for sure. Does anyone know if this is a network issue, or is it a phone radio issue?
I've noticed it has something to do with your facebook sync. If I have my favorite widget for a couple contacts set to text it automatically puts a +1 in front if the number and sms fails. If I go into the contact card it doesn't show the +1 though. Another thing I've noticed is if your in the actual message thread, hit menu, select more, and it should list recipients phone number as on option. I can select the one without the +1 but it won't default. Been having these problems on and off for about a month now with no solid fix....

Stock messenger disabled - still have 2 notification icons

I've searched a bunch in reference multiple notifications from 3rd party apps and I have found no solid solution.
I'm using Go SMS (previously used Handcent with same issue) and I'm receiving two notifications.
Before posting, PLEASE understand the stock messenger notifications are disabled and it has been frozen. Every response I've seen to this, someone suggests turning off stock messenger app notifications without reading that it has already been done.
I have included pictures. Go SMS is the blue icon. I took two screenshots, one with the stock messenger app enabled and one without it enabled to illustrate my point. The black icon is the mystery icon while the envelope is the stock app.
If anyone can help me out I'd really appreciate it. If so, I hope this post clarifies this issue and helps out others. Thanks ahead!

have you tried rebooting? Force closing the application?
Yes, I have rebooted, reflashed my rom, uninstalled/reinstalled, cleared defaults, cleared cache, and even stopped using Handcent all together, switching to Go SMS instead. All still pose the same problem.
When I click on the mystery black icon, it takes me to my default text message application on Go SMS and did the same when I was using Handcent.

So when you turn your phone on those notifications are still stuck there correct? Have you tried flashing another rom? or flashing the same one again.
Oh unless your not rooted..
I am rooted, yes. I have reflashed my rom and seen no improvement. Unless I misunderstood your post, it's not that these are "stuck". What I'm saying is that I'm getting this weird black icon even after the stock text message app and its notifications are disabled.
Since clicking on the black icon takes me to my current (Go SMS) text message application, I'm further confused.
I have no idea lol. Im sorry.
Free bump.

[Q] missing contacts-anyone else?

I've been having issues with missing contacts since getting the hox. I'm familiar with the way contacts and android and gmail work, i've had an android phone since Nexus One era.
Anyway my problem is missing contacts. I added a contact yesterday, saved it. Used it this morning, this afternoon it was gone. Today i added a phone number and pic to a contact i've had over a year and now the contact is missing from my contact list. his name and pic is on my call log, i can access the contact from there, and edit it, but its nowhere to be found under the regular contact list. if needed to cal him after he was wiped from my call log i wouldn't be able to find him.
Any ideas? TIA
I have had this problem as well, it's annoying as ****... Also, one time I sent a msg to "bob" then it said I sent it to "dan" then "dan" replied. Then I tried again sending to "bob" and It said I sent it to "dan" but the first msgs weren't there. Then "dan" replied... But it was actually bob this time. Then I force closed the SMS app. Then went back and it showed my 2nd attempt with "bob"s reply. But the first attempt was sent to the wrong person....
Those are two of my only 3 complaints about the phone. The third is that the stock messaging app, the mms size limit is 600k
The rest of the phone is amazing. I love it to death

[Q] Mass SMS Backup?

Hi I have about 13k text messages on my phone at the moment and another +20k in mmssms.db files. My question is, is there an app available that backs up sms/mms messages in a way that it can be viewed at any time (say, on my computer, not just on the phone) without having to restore it, as you would if you used Titanium Backup. I tried SMS Backup+ which sends your texts to your gmail. It was almost perfect, but the way it seperated each group per 100 texts was really cumbersome, especially when I have over +10k from a single person alone.
I know someone is definitely going to ask this so I'll just answer it now. I keep so many around because they are memories, and I'm just trying to save those memories, the way someone would save their photo album.
So, any apps that might do the trick?
I could just export mmssms.db every once in a while but the text log is full of code and hardly readable.
Thanks
XML file?
If you're okay with combing through xml code, you can backup with SMS Backup & Restore.
Definitely not aesthetically pleasing, but I've searched the entire XML code before to find texts I've needed.

XML is a fairly standard format. Just use Excel (OpenOffice should do the same) and open it as an XML - you will get all the details, but organised into nice columns so you can then just apply a filter to see messages by sender, date etc It's exactly what I do with mine - SMS Backup & Restore runs automatically at 2am every day, uploads the backup to my DropBox account, keeps the last three backups and I can open them on my laptop whenever I want to.
