Is there any way to open the phone and get under it? I think there is sand underneath. It still works, but its pressed down and sometimes has a mind of its own.

I'm sure there is, but undoubtedly not without the removal of a screw that has a "tamper evident" / "void if removed" sticker on it, which would, of course, void any warranty.
I bought it used, so warranty is nonexistent anyway. Maybe I'll take it to an ATT warranty store and see if they can do it.

You can, like zelendel says below, start with the screen replacement tutorial.
I had my old BB bold torn completely apart so I could clean the crap out of the trackball assembly. Several times.
Granted, the bold and the inspire are different phones, but what gets put together can be taken apart...the main parts of the phone at least.
Though I haven't messed with taking apart an inspire, if it's anything like other phones, the bezel/body would probably be the trickiest, as the two halves snap together in a rather "semi-permanent" way. Inspire might be different seeing that it's metal, and not plastic.
Not to mention, the part you're trying to get to, along with the power button, is most likely sort of "floating" inside, meaning it might pop out once the body is separated.
Also, the ribbon cables that connect components like the screen to the main PCB are rather delicate, so be gentle when separating parts.
Again, I don't know for sure, just based on my experience with some other similar electronic devices I've taken apart.
The point is, go get yourself a set of those micro-screwdrivers, and go at it.
I was watching a video on changing out the screen, looked really complicated (lots of small connectors) but possible. I replaced the screens on all of my iphones so I may be able to accomplish this.

It's complicated device...enough to warrant your undivided attention and, if there are a lot of those ribbon cables that look similar or have the same number of contacts, it might be advisable to have a fine point sharpie permanent marker around so you can mark what ribbon goes to what connector.
But if you've replaced a screen on an iPhone, you should have a head start, not to mention, you may not have to dig as deep to get to the part you're after as you would to get to the screen.
All this verbage coming from me is based on having NOT watched the video myself. I've just opened up and put back together more than a couple electronic gadgets before.
FWIW
I'll give it a go. Maybe ill take pictures and post a guide for future reference.

And remember, if it ain't coming off easy, there's probably a screw still in that you overlooked...
I'll do that then. I'm sure it will take me a while lol. The video wasn't descriptive of parts.

Oh, and for gods sake, take the battery out first. Lol
And it wouldn't hurt to use one of those anti-static wrist straps that are used when tinkering with a pc. Never know how sensitive these phones are to static. My rule of thumb is; better to ne safe than sorry.

Obviously good advice, and I used to be paranoid about it, now not so much. I've never fried anything due to built-up static electricity. I'm not saying it can't happen, just that the danger is probably a little overblown.
If you handle elecronic components carefully, you shouldn't run into problems.
For example, there's no reason to directly touch any IC's on PCB's or other parts that have them, just grab the part so that skin only contacts two of four edges.
And don't skate around in your socks on your thick shaggy carpet prior to doing this stuff.
And if you must skate around in your socks prior, touch the metal case of something plugged in... Computer power supply, etc.
All pretty basic stuff for anyone whose ever built their own pc.
I'll keep that in mind

Just got off the phone with an HTC rep. Talking about my landscape wifi bug and i mentioned the bootloader. i asked him if in the OTA will it unlock our devices and give us s-off and he said yes it will. Bad news is that they don't have plans in doing an OTA any time soon. Damn HTC. Damn them to hell.
EDIT: Apparently Paul is in direct contact with HTC. Might be coming faster than i and the retarted Rep knows!!
It's just a phone rep, I wouldn't read too much into it.
I'm sure they'll get it rolled out fairly quickly or they risk the modding market heavily favouring the Galaxy S II, and they can't afford that.

Well now that sucks... Just got the phone today, and was hoping that they will do something about it sometime soon....
Oh well, thank god we are not waiting on them only, and that we have some incredible devs in here that are going to kick the bootloaders butt, and do what HTC had to do long time ago.
Id rather see the devs do this, because if its just a given - its not all that much fun. Would love to donate for a job well done. I believe in you guys, you can do it!!
Just hope they aint like motorola and backflip on their promise. It just wouldn't make 'sense'

You might have to change the title of your post mate. I just asked Paul if he had any insider info as to when HTC will roll out OTA for 1.34 and he replied "Very soon"!
It gives me a lot of hope, Paul is in direct contact with HTC... I believe he knows more than the CS who is based god knows where and has no clue about what's going on.

Lol me too. Annoys the crap out of me. It doesn't protect the screen in any efficient manner, they always have bubbles after short periods (cause not designed to stay) and often make the screen harder to read (much much clearer without)
If you must have a screen protector (pointless if you ask me, glass is far stronger than plastic screen protectors) buy one designed for the job, cheap skates, what are they? $2?
Naked all the way for me, don't even like cases, just give me a belt clip holster and I'm happy
Lol, sorry for off topic rant but I couldn't help it, glad to see someone feels the same, I'm not crazy, well not alone at least

Does the sensation make cracking sounds when you press on the screen with little effort? It is similar to the sound the back battery cover makes when it gets pressed on other devices. Just quivering if its a defect or normal. I think its the noise of the edge of the screen rubbing with the frame of the phone.

There are a lot of threads about this. A lot off people are getting new covers from HTC. You can also try to put a little tape on the inside of the cover, to make.it more snug

so this is common and most people can hear a noise of the phones cover when the screen is pressed using about the same amount of pressure as snapping your fingers?

I'm getting it next week so I'll let you know. I did my exchange through T-Mobile. I tried doing it online, but the CSR rep wasn't picking up on what I said so I just called. They handle all the stuff for me and are sending me a phone from HTC.
I got my replacement today and it was just the phone, not the back cover. Not sure if it's a refurb or a new model. I have no more creaking sounds and the screen doesn't "give" anymore either. Hope that helps.
If it makes a noise when you press "right there" then don't press right there. Never in by wildest dreams have I ever thought of returning my phone cuz it made "a noise". I'm sorry, but that's just ridiculous. You complain about sounds created from actions that aren't part of everyday use. It's like you sit and look for defects just so you have something to complain about. It's insane. If you're talking to me, it isn't the only issue I had. I had light leaking through the bottom left hand corner, the text/screen flicker issue, and the fact the battery would overheat while charging at times. I paid a premium price for the phone and I expect to get my money's worth. I don't think that's unfair.

I agree. i have searched and found a bunch of people that had the creaking sound when pressing on the screen. unsure why but my intention was to find out of it was common and everyone had this issue or not. i also have screen problems at times and that is when i called tmobile about it and at the end mentioned the creaking sound. the back shell is defective thats why its creaking. if i really wanted to start picking things to complain and return the device i would have done that for not having a external sd or small pointless crap like that or how the official case covers holes in the back. i also had pixalation problems on the screen. my biggest problem was just i had to press the screen a bunch of times just to get it to respond. we are paying $500+ for phones so we expect them to work!

On some units, yes. But not all units have these issues. I didn't even mention the lock screen issue when half of the screen disappears or the ring isn't responsive. I wouldn't mind if I only had one of those issues, but all of them combined got to be too much.

I see your point, but I guess what I'm trying to get at is that me personally, I read up a whole lot on every phone I get before I make that jump to buy. I have "a person" that gets the newest gadgets to me alot cheaper than retail and I still read up. So, if i was gonna pay $600 for a new device, please believe I'd have studied on it long and hard first, knowing all of the pros and cons, and weighing them out. Them making the purchase and being satisfied with what I'd bought because I made a solid decision after thoroughly researching it.
BTW, sorry to hear you got a bad one. So far, the only issue I've had with mine has been the fact that sometimes it takes 5 or 6 tries to unlock the screen cuz the icons move instead of the ring, so I can understand your frustration.

Did it have anything about the warranty? New units have one year. Refurbs come with 90 days. So if it was a new unit, it could technically say 1 year. I dont know for sure, just guessing. How's the quality of the replacement unit? Any scratches/blemishes anywhere? Thx.

No, it didn't. Not as far as I can tell.
It's not too bad. Don't see any scratches/dust/or whatever. The speaker isn't as good as my old one and the yellow tint is a bit noticeable, but there's no screen flicker. Other then that it's a pretty good phone.
Hey guys I'm looking into buying a sensation today and wanted to know what things to look for when checking the phone out. And if there is something wrong how much of a hassle is it to get a replacement?
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
The answer is simple. Don't go looking for anything, just get it and enjoy it. Don't believe all of the issues here as we all exaggerate. Just like any device forum people don't talk about how well there device works, but when one small thing comes up on one device out of millions people tend to freak out. The only reason people are nit-picking this device apart is because we don't have root. Without root the only thing we can do is talk about the weather, and turn specs of tiny dust into a major castrophe. My sister just got this phone last week and she loves it. She didn't say "Hey the screen is AUO and not a Sharp", she didn't say "the wifi signal drops when I bear hug it". Nope, she loves it and said it's the best phone she ever had, and I agree with her.
Don't put it under a microscope and just enjoy it. If your phone is defective you can always exchange it.
Okay thank you for the response. I will try to do that

There are miniscule differences between devices. Don't make too big a deal out of it. Just make sure that you are ok with anything you buy.

Can you think of any defects that are visible to the naked eye right out of the box? Dust maybe? The way I see it, if he opens the box and likes his Sensation, then let him just enjoy it. If his phone is defective he's going to find out one way or another. If he opens the box and pulls out a magnifying glass he'll find dust. If he installs the terminal emulator he's going to obsess about having a certain screen. If he pulls out a thermometer he's going to worry about heat. I'm just advising him to do what I did. There's too many people here panicking about too many little things. Every single one of my phones has had one issue or another.
Yeah once again I'm looking for anything thats actually an issue. Not a non-issue issue. Anything worth returning it from I may be buying it from an individual rather than a company so I just need to know if it is defective what are my options and such? Thanks for the input guys.

Well, my phone was thrown yesterday, and my LCD went out.
When I DroidExplorer onto my phone, Screencasting works.
When I try my hardest, on my actual screen, ive gotten 3 green pixels to show up.
So assuming my LCD is dead, and my digitizer is fine, anyone know where I can actually buy the LCD for the NS4G? and if not, does anyone know if its the same LCD used in the NS?
Any links, advice, or whatever, is extremely appreciated.

I just received my N5 from UPS and I sat down all happy that it had finally arrived. I open up the box and marvel in how nice it looks compared to my old beat up Gal Nex. I take out the sim removal tool and look at the top of a phone... oh hey look, a hole the size of the sim tool. I stick it in and come up against something so I push and it clicks... no bay pops out. Whats this I ask myself? I look at the instruction leaflet and it is on the side. I googled it and it seems others have done this.
How can I verify the top microphone is working as intended and not damaged? I definitely either pushed something down or punctured something.

Yea that sucker is probably toast. I'm guessing it should be a fairly cheap and easy fix.

So should I return it or should it not be a big deal - could this lead to an issue in the future? It would be better, ethically, to keep it, but if it is going to be an issue in the future I'd like to deal with it now rather than later. If nothing is broken I might not even have any grounds to return it.

If all you tore was the dust filter, just put a TINY TINY little piece of kleenex in the hole, using the tool or paperclip or whatever.
That way no dust will get in.
And no sounds would get to the microphone... Kleenex lol
I wouldn't worry about it. Use the phone and see if you have any issues. If not learn your lesson and move on. If so, return it.
