It depends on what ROM your using but long pressing at the beginning of the text you want will bring up an arrow you can then drag to select what you need to copy/paste. This feature is similar but has much improved functionality in Cyanogenmod or other 2.3.4 based ROM's.

i hit menu > more > select text
you can use the trackball or just touch and drag on screen, well that works for the dudes build at least......don't know what build you are running
With Android 1.5, you just press Shift and drag your finger over the text you want to copy. As you release the finger, the highlighted (in some pinkish color!) text is copied to the clipboard. To paste the text, you long press any text input area and select Paste from the menu that pops up.

(Q) How to select text, copy & paste in browser

Is there a "long press" style option, using an app perhaps that replicates the Win7 accelerator right click option? A way to EASILY highlight a word(s) (besides menu + e etc) while browsing internet, and then search for the highlighted items?
I love the ability to highlight and then search, or map etc.
Haven't seen a solution for android phone or tabs.
Thanks so much

I'm sure there must be an app for that but for now for copy/paste I do it (while in the browser) by hitting Settings, More, Select Text and then drag my finger across the text I want to copy and then long press in textbox and select Paste. For searching I hit Settings, then Find on Page.
I thought I had read on the VEGAn thread that they got an external mouse to work (before they fixed the accelerometer which made it so you couldn't use the mouse). I wonder if the right mouse click did anything while it was working.
On my Droid 1 I can just long press to copy items in a text box but it apparently doesn't work on the viewsonic. Is there a way to copy on the stock browser or do I need to download Dolphin?

Those are clipboard managers. The first on only works till 2.3 android, and others are not the text selectors.
Maybe I expressed myself incorrectly. What I really miss from old desire is that quick text selection with separate magnifier button (lookup in wikipedia, word define, translate) demo can bee seen :
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C8AcxgLyk2A#t=52
Because now when I want to translate or define a world I have to select text select share search for translate app select that app. Previously on sense UI it was: select text click magnifier and vualia.
But anyway thanks for trying to help.

Ok I understand and I've just found (and tried) Finger Translate.
Select a text then copy it and you will have a pop-up (or toast notification) with 2 options: Copy or Translate. It works on KitKat 4.4.2.
It's almost the same feature as the youtube video. Does it suit you?
You could also try this other app: Touch Translator

Not as good as it was on Sense, but I will give it a try and test in in daily use.
BTW selecting only toast (I don't need dialog every time I select copy) is not working. It shows dialog. Well if it will not annoys me in future I will stick with it
Thank you!

Looking for a new pdf app

Currently, I use PDF MAX ANDROID for its one tap highlight(meaning you don't have to long press the word to highlight it.) You just simply choose highlight mode and tap any number of words to highlight them individually, which is much faster than tap and hold and highlight. But this app is really unstable and can easily crash. I just want to know if anyone knows any pdf software where you can easily highlight texts.
Thank You.

I use Moon+ Reader. You can reduce the long press time down to 50ms in the control options, the highlight menu pops up quickly and you tap the color you want. Very fast.
