data link between SGS and GeneralKeys Bluetooth Keyboard (failed) - Galaxy S I9000 Accessories

Hi there,
last week I got a new bluetooth-keyboard in order to write long texts on my sgs. Sounds great, in theorie, I know, but I have a big problem:
My SGS cannot connect to the keyboard. I cannot even enter the bluetooth-code - the pop-up window disappears as fast as it appears.
Can anyone out there help me?
Markus

Hi Markus,
I've got nearly the same issue on my HTC Desire HD.
I can peer it the the phone (a code is asked on my DHD and I type the same on the keyboard) but no BT service is then displayed.
So the only action available on the phone is to "forget" the device.
It seems that this keyboard doesn't like Android phones because it works with iPhones and Sony PS3.

Thoughts on Vario IV

Hi all,
Since its now out and people have them (inc myself!) I thought I'd start a new thread with initial thoughts etc
I like the feel of the unit it feels more solid than my Vario II
I synced all my contacts and texts etc but havent used it to make calls etc yet so cant comment here but the sync was as expected
The phone itself looks great -its a shame the touch-flo is so t-mobile but thats to be expected
I'll probably buy a spare battery once im sure im happy with it (I have a spare with my vario II)
so far I've only installed tomtom 7 (athough there is co-pilot data on the SD Card??)
anywho so far happy but early days!!
J
No opera only IE installed I'll look for an opera cab!!
Are there any significant issues with the latest opera beta?
I see loads of threads relating to it
Should I get the stable build (8.5?) or use the beta?
Ok folks, I've made a small discovery. If you Hard Reset the device, it gives you CoPilot 7 AND Opera back, BUT (and here's the kicker) it gives you a different (older??) version of TouchFlo 3D.
The version I have after the hard reset is 1.2.34589.1_1813.6
What do (sensible) people have out of the box?
The main difference that I can see is that it doesn't have the Favourites (in a circle arrangement) on the far left of the TouchFlo panel and I also seem to remember it looking slightly different as well. I know T-mobile test each phone before they send them out - could they have updated the software through USB but not touched the ROM? Seems like the most likely option IMO.
In respect of the device, so far I'm very impressed with the Vario's speed.
I'm comparing it to the MDA Compact IV I had for a week last year - the extra RAM definitely seems to make a noticeable difference.
Edit:
After Hard Reset:
ROM Version: 1.69.110.8 WWE
ROM Date: 08/21/08
Radio Version: 1.02.25.19
Protocol Version: 52.33.25.17U

Just ordered mine from T Mobile today - at leat the CSR knew (without prompting) it was called the Vario IV, even if they had none in stock!
Re the CoPilot - I have been a long time user of CP6 (came with my Compact II) - is it useable? And did you specify it when ordering, or do you think its inclusion (given your hard reset) is an oversight by T-Mobile?
CoPilot Live is 7 Day Trial

What version of Opera is it?
Supplied Touch pro is:
1.2.34589.1_1813.6

Opera is Version 9.5, build 1522.
There is CAB file in the Windows folder to install Opera, when I first Hard reset the device and tried running it, it did not work. I think there's another file (registry?) that needs running to activate it but I quickly gave up and just reset the thing to see what would happen!
Does your TouchFlo have Favourites on the left of the Home tab?
Loving the phone at the moment. But...... texts i receive are with an internaional prefix, so the vario doesn't recognize who sent it.
Strange because there is no such problem with incoming calls ???
screen print
I dont think so..

Oh really? Another way of doing it is Start--Settings--System--Clear Storage.
The front screen you have is the same as mine now. When I get a chance I'll call up tech support to find out if they have an update.
I did the latter option and it worked thanks
Just Resyncing and putting on texts etc and then I'll play with co-pilot!

I have all my numbers stored in international format so my texts were being recognised but incoming calls weren't. Haven't had a chance to test properly but I think I've solved this by using Schapp's Advanced Config which allows you to change the number of digits that are matched.
As nice as the phone is, there a few things that are driving me crazy and I have a feeling I'm going to return it:
* Pressing left/right on the DPad requires you to press in exactly the right area otherwise you hit the call/home/hangup/back keys which is incredibly frustrating.
* No dedicated hardware keys to launch applications. I know you can configure double/triple clicks on the call/hangup keys but it doesn't work too well. You can't configure long presses on these keys
* Can't configure double/triple/long presses of the home or back keys
* Lack of hardware softkeys means I'm unable to use Sky Mobile (the java app) which, for some reason, doesn't work if you press the softkeys on the screen. Although I don't use this that often, it's incredibly useful to have.
I really don't like using Windows Mobile and having to rely on the touchscreen for everything as it's not really designed for finger operation alone. The hardware keys on the Wizard and Kaiser made them really easy to use but I can see I'm not going to get on with this :-( If only I hadn't smashed the screen on my Kaiser!
agree with most of your comments antlane, I will be calling tmobile to return one of my two handsets, I have to say the battery life on this phone is so poor. After a full charge took it off 6am this morning by 12 it had 30% left. It will not last a day for me.

@antlane you're a hero. I searched this forum and Google high and low before finding this answer. I've made the adjustment now (to 9 digits seems to work for me in the UK) and life is back to normal
For the purposes of being able to find this fix easily from web searching:
Problem: International Format Contact Numbers Not Recognised (in my case HTC Touch Pro/Raphael/Vario IV)
Solution: Use Schapp's Advanced Config to adjust number of digits matched (under 'phone' section).
As far as your other comments go, I too have mixed feelings about lack of hard buttons (especially for scroll, messaging and camera). But, in balance I am very impressed with TFL3D - it's really integrated well with the OS and provides functionality on top (e.g. remembering what track you were listening to before soft reset unlike WMP). It's fast and gives you the kind of look and feel that I expect from such a capable handset. Also like: keyboard, screen and soft keyboard options. Don't like: excessive T-mobile branding on TFL3D, lack of plain Opera option in programs (only WebnWalk), lack of 3.5mm headphone jack (adapter city still).
Thanks again @antlane
Thanks for that. Switching to 9 digits in advanced config, sorts it out perfectly.
How are people finding the T mobile branding ?? Its a bit pink for me so i may have to find a way to switch it back to HTC Black and grey.

While I don't doubt this fix works for the phone, why on earth should we have to resort to a third party program to get a basic feature of EVERY phone made in the last 10 years or so??
My Vario II could identify a number if it had a +447 or 07 prefix..why can't my shiny new toy??
I've been dealing with T-Mobile customer support and then the tech support team as well over the last couple of days.
So far I've been told to remove any duplicate contacts from the phone memory (there weren't any) then copy all contacts from my SIM over to the phone memory...and erase all SIM contacts when that didn't work!
The last thing they've suggested is that my SIM (which is about 8/9 years old) is not supplying enough voltage (3 volts as opposed to 5 volts of modern SIMs) so they're sending me a new SIM card tomorrow. Apparently (and it made me laugh) this is a common Windows Mobile fault!
Has anyone heard of this "fault" or is this typical tech support BS??!?
Vario IV and Parrot BT
Something else thats frustrating me is that the Vario wont pair fully with my Rythum and Blue stereo in the car.
All other HTC devices (going back to the universal) pair in such a way that contacts and call history sync with the car stereo
The vario IV does connect but wont sync
Annoying as the Object push profile is supported by the phone
I'll probably still keep the phone just use it less in car for calls

iGo Stowaway bluetooth Keyboard now works

Just installed this little driver http://sotolog.net/bluekeyboard/ and my old iGo Stowaway keyboard now works. I know various people have hacks to get this to work previously - but with this simple install, your just configure the keyboard and are away. No terminal command lines, no rooted phones - it just works.
Great! - Just thought you should all know.(bluekeyboard is available in the Android Market)
help! the link is down, and i would love to get the kb to work with my t-mobile g2. can you send me the file? hope that is not a hopeless newbie question, but i can get it paired, get bluekeyboard installed, configured, and seeing the keyboard to select it in setup, but it will not connect!!!
thanks.
Mark
Application is available in the Android Market - I just re-downloaded it to confirm.
It sounds like you have everything you need. You just need to pair it with your device. How you trigger pairing on your keyboard depends on the keyboard. The stowaway use the 2 Fn keys held down for a few secs and the LED then pulses.
I misunderstood. I thought you were referring to something you had to add to bluekeyboard. I have paired the kb. It will simply not connect. I thought I saw a customer comment that it does not work on 2.2, which my G2 runs. Everything seems configured, unless I need to press something on the kb to get it to connect. Argh
Hi
Can someone send me the apk or upload it somewhere? For some reason after I upgraded the ROM, bluekeyboard can't be found in market + if i use market website it says it is not compatible with my device (a htc desire).
weird...

BlueTooth Keyboard Sleeps

Hello, I recently was looking into buying a cheap laptop or tablet or something to browse the web on my tv, then i ran across this forum
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1155412
Which helped me connect a blue tooth keyboard and mouse then i ran a cable to tv. Everything works as it should except for when the keyboard is not in use for say 3-5 mins it goes to sleep and will not wake up. I am forced to go into BT settings and pair and connect it, which sometimes takes 2 or 3 tries. The mouse can go to sleep and wake up fine without having to re-pair it. I even restarted phone and the mouse worked right after reboot without me having to touch the phone, the keyboard however does not. A friend of mine tried pairing the keyboard to his HTC EVO 3d and it would wake up and reconnect without a problem so it must be the rom im using? I dont know. I tried using the stock rom, stable cm7 and a nightly cm7 and hellfire ICS rom. The ICS rom worked the best as far as keyboard waking up but the mouse on ICS does not have the shortcuts it does in GB (right click in gb goes back, right click in ics does the same thing as left click?why?) I also tried using trinity kernel for stable cm7 to see if that would help, but no.I just want to be able to leave the room for a moment then come back without having to reconnect this stupid keyboard.
I bought the microsoft BT mouse mentioned in the above post and i bought an ipad keyboard like mentioned in the same post, I dunno why im having so much trouble. I created new thread because the one i linked to is long dead. Thank you for your input!
link to the exact keyboard model your using.
ive been doing this since the functionality was built into cm7, and was using a keyboard since i got the phone. Neither has any issues.
Try setting the phone to never sleep (set timeout to like 6 hours or something)
i see you said its a keyboard for an ipad, sometimes they might use a different protocol that does not line up exactly with how all HID's (human interface devices) should work. so the keyboard might sleep, but the command it sends to wake up and re-connect is not getting understood by our phones.
if you can try another bluetooth keyboard and see if the issue persists.
EDIT: and never be afraid to necro an old thread, as long as you read it and its relevant, it saves us from clicking on another link.

I cant find a link to the manufacture's website and the box it came in doesn't even have a brand name on it or anything, just some cheap keyboard from china. The box does say its for ipad2/iphone 4.0 OS/pc/smartphone/htpc/android 2.1 so i kinda figured it would of worked.
I have model K1280, this is where i bought it
http://www.amazon.com/NIKINGSTORE-B...O4GI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1334349017&sr=8-1
for some reason, some of the reviews there state that the keyboard they received has rechargeable battery built in, but mine does not. Mine also came with slightly different box than what was pictured.
After i got home from work today i turned on the mouse and keyboard and both connected to phone with no problem. But still a problem when keyboard goes to sleep, so i thought what if i just flip the switch off then back on seeing how it connected fine when i first turned it on. That didn't work what i don't get is I've tried the keyboard on 2 other devices and it worked without a problem. I don't have spare bluetooth devices laying around, like another keyboard lol so I guess my only option is to give this thing to my mom who has an ipad and buy a new one. May I ask which keyboard you use? Thanks for your reply

Possible wakelock bug. Is Airdroid working for you?

I've been experiencing issues with Airdroid, since when the screen turns off the wifi data flow stops and of course the phone stops responding to the pc (which "hangs" waiting for the phone to respond). As soon as I turn on the screen again (even without going past the lock screen) the communication between the phone and the pc INSTANTLY gets back.
Workaround: I found out that by opening up Android Terminal Emulator (which you can find on the play store and doesn't require root), going to its menu and tapping "activate wakelock" everything works as expected (Airdroid works even with screen off).
My configuration: european no-brand HTC One S, completely stock and unrooted, Android 4.0.4, Sense 4.1 (OTA 2.31).
I've never noticed this issue with 4.0.3.
Any of you are facing this problem?
Thanks!
there is no activate wakelock option.under menu
Are you using the same terminal emulator when looking for that option?
The version referenced is this one.

Yep, as TheArtiszan above stated, that's the terminal you need to download.
Also have this problem. For the time being I'm keeping the screen on.

Yes, that's it. I have translated from my native language.
Are you on T-Mobile? If yes, I think that our problems (although similar) have a different source.
I have the exact same problem above. I'm running Windows 7, Nexus 4 with 4.2.2. Has there been a fix for this issue since?
I should add that when my phone is plugged in and charging in a wall socket that my Airdroid on PC has no problems accessing the device. The problem only arises when the phone goes to sleep unplugged from all sources.
Sorry to drag up a dead thread but I didn't want to post a new.

Unrequire Samsung input method for Bluetooth keyboards on N8000

As the name suggests, I have a problem with Bluetooth keyboards on my N8K. When I connect a Bluetooth keyboard, a popup appears telling me that I have to select the Samsung input method in order to use it. After closing it I get an input selection dialog and if I then select anything other than the Samsung keyboard, it says 'Bluetooth keyboard removed!' and disconnects it. Sometimes this happens before I make the choice, as in the screenshot. The only way for me to use my keyboard with an alternative input method(which I need to use the terminal properly) is to first select the Samsung input and then the one I actually need, which is annoying.
How do I disable this auto-disconnect and optionally the popups?
Thanks in advance.

Bump?
I would suggest root and freeze stock keyboard. Stock keyboard and Bluetooth keyboards have this issue where when you type, it registers your strokes until it reaches a letter with multiple character options.then you've gotta select the character you want, and continue.
It's really annoying and stymies productiveness. In also writing this assuming you're using a 3rd party manufactured BT keyboard.
But yeah, root and swift key.

Thanks for the reply. My tab is already rooted but I keep having this problem both with and without the stock keyboard, and in the latter case I'm not able to connect the BT keyboard at all.

Hmmm.
Curious, and I mean no disrespect, but are you remembering to enable the tablet to be seen by other devices as well as scanning while the bluetooth keyboard is searching for a device?
I only ask because i'm guilty of that on the regular.
If it isn't catching the BT Keyboard at all, then an issue is there. Perhaps restore to factory setting and start from the beginning ( out of box experience).
What kind of BT Keyboard are you using anyhow?
Oops, seems that I forgot about this thread.

The problem arises after the keyboard is connected; it just gets auto-disconnected if the samsung input method is not present. also the device (Defender I-type SB-905 bluetooth keyboard) does not have any autoconnect capability and thus does not search for other devices but can be found by and accept a pairing request from them.
My experience actually was quite close to "out of the box". I've tried to use the keyboard right after turning my on for the first time. It worked perfectly but failed to reproduce all the "real computer" keys (f#, esc, tab, control, alt, et cetera) present on the keyboard itself, which was the main purpose of using one at all. So I installed an additional input method to manage those instead, but couldn't use it normally.
