[Q] Generic Chinese Tablet with Front Facing Camera - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

I'm currently looking for information on users who have front facing camera on generic chinese tablets. I have an EM73, TCC8803 based tablet but I believe any tablet that's currently in the line of Emdoor/Telechips based tablets could benefit from this thread. And in the long run, hopefully any device with a front facing camera.
The issue is Video Chat. As i'm sure everyone has tried, the camera app works great! But, if you use another video chat program such as gtalk or Qik, then the other person will see a very downgraded video. If you (currently) try the Skype 2.0 hacks, you'll see no video at all.
It appears to me that the video chat programs are making a specific call in Android 2.3.x for video chat abilities (I've only gotten gtalk to work in 2.3.3, Qik works in 2.3.1 and 2.3.3 but video quality is the same).
Does any know where this request is and maybe how it could be modified? Also, has anyone tried another video chat program that worked better?
I hope we can get better video quality, as the TCC8803 chip should have no problems with an upgraded video out stream. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Not sure about that, but check out Octrotalk. It supports video chat with its own client and voice chat with google talk.

ggmathur, Have you used the OctroTalk 2.0 with the TouchPro/Fuze yet?
How is it for video calling?
Do you know of any other skype type service that uses video (especially the front camera) for these devices?

I have not tried video calling, but audio quality is great, though it uses the speaker phone. When calling, I have the option of using a front facing camera (unfortunately, I do not have one (Fuze)). However, video calling is limited to Octrotalk, meaning in order to have a video conference, your other client must also use Octrotalk.
And no, sorry, I am not aware of any other applications that support this.

UPDATE:
I have just used Octrotalk and it works wonderfully. Unfortunately, I only have a back facing camera. Nevertheless, it works wonderfully! Though be warned, Octrotalk for PC is almost exactly the same (It looks disgusting)

View camera in messengers?

Hello all!
I would like to ask if i can somehow use the camera on the back of my touch pro so they can see me in for example skype call. it's not a problem that i wont be able to see the screen, i just need them to see me. maybe with fring or something? any thoughts? thanks
most touch pro got front cameras too ment for video calls and msg and skype
of cause it's a bit of a problem that msg & skype for windows mobile don't support video calls
can't think of any wm IM which support video chat
I don't have a front cam, that's why i'm asking about an alternative.
but as I stated then even us with frontcam can't use them for video chat as msg and skype and fring and .... don't support video chat using any camera
i see, thought i heard something about skype with video. still a shame there isn't any way for that thanks anyway

Videocall softwares compatible with the galaxy.

Hi everyone!
I just bought my tab and i was trying the videocall feature with some software but..
I tried tango videocall with an iphone4 but he doesn't see my videocall and i can't switch to the front camera, using only the back one.
I tried fring but it doesn't fit very well on the galaxy screen, not rotating and not beeing centered the video window, too here the called person doesn't see me (iphone4 and iphone3 users)
today i'll try sipdroid with a voip videocall...
Have you got some feedback with other software working? Is there a way to fix fring? I saw a video on their website where they show a videocall working in the right way. Also if only in portrait mode... I also read that tango team is waiting to have a tab to fix the problem of switching the cam
the only one that seems not interested in videocall seems to be skype... I can't believe...

thx for the info, i just updated it
does it work also in landscape mode?
qik apparently works...
Tango works for sure. Good for android to iphone and vice versa video calls. It's UI looks more like facetime.

How did you get it to work with iPhone's facetime? Just call it up I guess..? Or do they need to have Tango also.
Tried it... front camera on both iphone & tab dont work.. They only use the rear cameras on both.. Is this normal?
I can confirm that Tango-for-iphone4 <-> Tango-for-android works on the GT.
Tango seems to have bugs with the front (not user-facing) camera, but then the rear camera is the more useful one. I also saw a bug where I am sometimes zoomed in. But overall it works well for video chat.

That's what I figured. Thanks.
PS - Same problems with front facing camera on iPhone Tango app.
My dream still remain skype with videocal AND video rotation, letting me keep my galaxy in landscape mode without the called people has my video rotated on 90 degrees

Io uso Tango, per ora non ne ho trovati altri, funziona anche con gli iphone..
I use Tango, and it work whit a iphone!
Do you guys mean the back camera on the tab isn't working? ie, the camera with the flash.... I can get the camera on the screen to work... which is the one facing me and needed for video chat.
Very impressive. lag was minimal and I am in Azerbaijan right now. I am sure they will fix this bug soon...
i can't get yahoo messenger video chat working at all.. i know it does say galaxy devices not supported but has anyone got any luck?
@Raspster
Sorry for late reply. In my case, my friend on iphone also has tango.
Tango can use both front and rear cameras. Just touch on the self thumbnail to switch cameras (as far as I remember).
One more important thing, you need to switch on the video on Tango call. It is not on by default.
Cannot get Yahoo Messenger to work

I have been working on this as well. A no go. Can anyone offer us advise please?
I saw from other forum, You can try ClearSea from Mirial. It has Windows, Mac OS X, and Android clients. So you can make video call from Tab to Tab, PC, and Mac. I only try using demo account.
This ABSOLUTELY works and WORK FLAWLESSLY!!!! Not sure how long the demo lasts but if these guys can do this someone else must be able to.
My demo account was killed after three weeks.
Skype for the GT should REALLY come out already!
I tried fring with the new ipod touch and the GT, worked perfectly on both ends, and us Galaxy Tab users have a better front camera!

As Skype for Android doesn't support video calling, it's not going to be of any benefit.
Qik doesn't support video calling either FWIW.

[Q] Have rear camera recording video on tablet whille running browser or office?

Hi!
I want to have the rear camera recording video while at the same time have the tablet running office or a internet browser.
Is there a way to have the rear camera recording video in the background (multitasking)?
Is there a way to do this or could you help me find one?
Its for a good cause.
Awesome post.
Hallo "Hi_mom! "! I think your post is awesome. I wish someone answers to it soon.

[Q] Video chat apps do not work with O3D roms :(

I have been through 3 different custom roms and 1 stock untouched rom, and NONE seem to work correctly with video chat apps and the front camera.
ooVoo doesn't see front camera at all (even though O3D is listed as supported device)
Tango front camera is EXTREMELY zoomed in, even holding phone at the length of my fully extended arm its hard to get my entire face on screen
Fring doesn't see front camera
Qik for T-mobile (from market) works, but at about 1 frame per second and its a grainy pixelated 1 frame at that
Skype doesn't see the front camera
I don't even KNOW of any other video chat apps... I'd love to find something that WORKS, thats cross platform since all my friends have iPhone's - or the greatest would be to find something that is FACETIME (iPhone) capable/compatible.
I'm currently using the RushDroid v21b GingerBread rom (fyi)
