root-sprint-nexus-s-4g-with-a-single-click-guide
the process above is the method i used to unlock my nexus s but after having it unlocked the phone was unable to read any sim cards. so i figured i must have screwed up the unlocking process so i tried a different unlocking process to see if it would override the problem and the process i had used was single-click-root-solution-superboot-works-on-windows-mac-linux-tutorial after running that process my phone could no longer pass the google boot logo. I have tried almost everything i could think off. going trough clockworkmod and applying the update.zip but it just says installation aborted. also resetting to factory data settings. but nothing seems to work.
You rooted using the wrong method. You don't have the sprint version if NS4G. I would look for Samsung flash file back to stock and then go from there.

I've figured out how to fix it! First, I went to Section 5 of this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1762709 thread and odin-ed back to stock. Next I fixed my IMEI using a guide I found on xda. It was the second part of thishttp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1804117 thread that says "IMEI is already corrupt".
Next, I did a bunch of things that I don't think I should have done and I ended up with a soft brick phone so I went and flashed back to stock via odin by following this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1840030 guide. I don't really know if it was necessary and I ended up getting stuck on the activation screen. If at any time you can not get past the activation screen, the third post down from here shows how to get past it so you could go to your settings and check them out or unlock your bootloader or whatever it is you need to do. But this whole part may not be necessary.
This is the part that I think completely fixed the phone. Probably the most important part of this whole guide. You have to dial *2767*3855# from a completely stock rom (root66 or others). It factory reset my phone and somehow the calls work, although it always says I'm roaming
A couple days ago I rooted my s3 and flashed the CM10.1 ROM. It had problems with mobile data and connecting to 4G and phone calls, so I tried out a bunch of different ROMs before deciding it had to be something else.
I figured out that my IMEI had been erased and since I didn't have it backed up (and I have no idea where my nandroid backup is or what happened to it) I had to manually restore it using some NV items reader writer tool and some other similar tool. It worked but there was something else, I think it was called ERI, was set to none. I kept trying stuff and ended up doing a factory reset. I attempted to unroot my S3, I have no idea if I succeeded in unrooting.
What I just did was soft brick my s3, not completely sure how, but I did then re flash root66 using odin successfully and now I'm back to the activation screen. Now it is stuck trying to activate the phone, but it fails every-time, and I can't do anything but restart the phone. So I restart the phone and have to go through the set up screen again and it tries to re-activate but fails and goes through the whole thing again.
Could someone please help me?
According to the Verizon website the phone is activated.
Update 8:24 PM EST: I have gotten past the activation screen but it says that the phone is out of service and when I try to call someone it says that the "mobile network is not available". Please help.
Since nobody is here to answer me, I will post the answer once I figure out what to do, just in case somebody in the future has the same problem.
I'm going to start by re-rooting my phone. I'll let you know how that goes and if anybody else could help me out that would be great. Thanks.
UPDATE 7:45PM EST:
I successfully re rooted the phone via odin and tried to start it up to no avail. Next I tried to flash a ROM, but I must have forgotten to unlock the bootloader since I couldn't even get the phone to boot completely. Right now I'm flashing back to the vzw root66 rom and then I'm going to re root and try to unlock the boot loader.
UPDATE 8:07PM EST:
I finally figured out how to get past the activation screen and I unlocked my bootloader. Before I flash AOKP I'm going to see if I could fix everything else. I think I'm pretty close to a solution. If anybody else is having the same problem send me a message or reply here, I'll try to answer your questions if you let me know what you've done.
I really just need a way past the activation screen. After that I think I could figure out what to do.
Sorry your having problems. I wish I could help but never ran into that problem so everything you said went over my head otherwise I would of fine a lot of research. At least now you are learning more and more.I just figured I would respond since no one else did.Good luck.

Thanks.
Well I suppose it is hard for a phone to make calls when it isn't activated.
Goodluck on your quest though.
Thanks for the help, I finally got it working.

In case someone else has this problem...When I flashed pure 4.2.1, I couldnt get past activation and then found out how to bypass the screen. Tap once in each corner of the screen to bypass activation screen. Then once at home screen go to settings>more(right below WiFi/Bluetooth/data)>mobile networks>CDMA subscription. NV will be selected, change it to RUIM/SIM. Reboot phone. Worked perfectly for me.
No mobile network found

Thanks for this post. I ran into the same problem (flashing CM 10.1) with my first S3 phone but did not know how to fix it (wish I saw your post ahead of time). I returned phone to stock via Odin and was able to exchange for a second S3 phone via Verizon (since I have phone insurance). I flashed AOKP ms 1 (jb 4.1.2) on second S3 phone and noticed it was hanging on activation and also said no mobile network when trying to make a call. Luckily, the phone spontaneously rebooted on its own and then started working. Previous to my first S3 phone, I had a Galaxy Nexus. Never ran into any problems with the Galaxy Nexus and almost tempted to go back to it since the S3 seems buggy when flashing a new rom. I am afraid I'm going to brick yet another S3 and be out $400 since I don't think phone insurance will allow me to exchange a second time since this probably alert them to the fact that I'm flashing custom roms.
Also, under mobile networks>system select be sure to change from home to automatic. Reboot.

All was working fine until I tried to do this. At first nothing was selected and everything was working, but when I tried selecting automatic and rebooted it selected home for me and it is impossible to change back to automatic without it automatically changing it back to home against my will.
So after 6 months of perfectly working NON rooted phone, I decided to root my Verizon Galaxy S3. I previously owned a Moto Droid 2 and rooted and had no problems ever. Unfortunately, within hours of a successful root, I made the mistake of downloading ROM manager (since it worked fine on my Droid 2) and tried installing the first listed AOKP custom ROM. It rebooted and did everything that was expected, until it just hung on the boot up screen for over an hour. I then decided to (for better or worse) pull the battery and just boot into recovery. Unfortunately, this brought me to a message from Verizon saying "you are doing bad things, bring your phone to Verizon" (more or less anyway). So I fixed that much by getting the factory image/reboot and installing via Odin. My problem now is it constantly keeps failing/closing android process every minute or so. I can't navigate it long enough to do anything before it fails again and takes me back to lock screen followed by home screen. When I boot to recovery, it says I have no files to restore either, but I KNOWWW for a fact I did a backup through CWM before I did ANYTHING involving any custom ROMs. PLEASE help me! Ask any and all related questions that will help you and I'll do my best to answer them.
Can you check your file system and see if your CWM folder has a backup? It should be Sdcard/CWM or extsdcard/CWM. If not, do you mind flashing another rom or that same rom?

2 questions: Which factory image did you use to restore (link to thread)? Did you change the default backup location in CWM (ie, did you backup to the external sd or the internal - internal is default)?
There is a file in both extsdcard and sdcard with clock work mod back up. I did manage to factory reset and re root, so phone is functional again, just with none of my apps or settings. I have a feeling I'm going to need to un root in order to re receive my JB update too?

Didn't unlock bootloader?
I don't know for sure. I unzipped SU plus bootloader file exactly as specified in forums/video. Had no problems until I tried installing that ROM through ROM manager. And forgive me for trying that. I hadn't rooted in over a year. But main problem now is just that I want to recover how my phone was ie settings and set up if possible.

How big are those 2 folders?
One is 4.82 gb...so I'd think there has to be a file in there.

That sounds about the right size for a backup. When you go into CWM and do the restore (or restore from external - which ever has that folder, you didn't say) it doesn't show a backup?
What version of CWM are you running?
It's version CWM6023touchvzw.tar.md5. And it's on the external. But no matter which option of restore I choose in the recovery boot, it says file not found.

Maybe after all that flashing and Odin-ing your recovery install got wanked, somehow.
Let's try this: it will re-install the latest CWM, clean and then let's see if it'll recognize your backups.
http://www.clockworkmod.com/rommanager/
download the touch image for the d2vzw (or just click here)
put that in the root of your internal sd card.
Open up terminal emulator on your phone and type the following:
Code:
su
dd if=/sdcard/recovery-clockwork-touch-6.0.2.3-d2vzw.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p18
reboot recovery
(partition 18 is your recovery partition)
That'll push the known good CWM to your recovery partition and boot you into it. It won't mess with any sort of data anywhere else on the phone.
Alright, thanks. I'll give this a try after I get back home from work.

Hello guys, I have a Samsung S3 that was purchased "unlocked" to work on T-Mobiles network. After that failed attempt, we switched over to Verizon. 3 weeks later the phone read a message "System Software not authorized". I tried the steps detailed: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1840030&highlight=system+software+not+authorized with no errors. However, the phone will not boot. I get infinite boot loop. Honestly, I dont know where to go next. The phone still shows a "unlocked" icon when booted also. All I want to do is get the phone back to its original VZW supported state. Thoughts?
.
Interesting enough, after another wipe of the cache the phone booted up. How can I remove the 'custom' icon and lock this phone back up? I don't want to be denied service at VZW in the future if possible.
You could flash a stock ICS ROM and then update using OTA and it would remove the root, unless its not activated on Verizon. If not, I'll help from there. Let me ask some people to see if my method would work first though.

The phone is a i535, initially I used invislbeks (spelling?) root and unlock method but ran into a bootloop I could not get out of. I tried factory reset and it would still loop. So I did a little reading and used Odin to flash the stock F1 tar.md5. This allowed me to boot the phone however now I'm stuck in factory mode. The IMEI seems to be intact as I'm able to make and take calls however the /efs folder is empty.
My ultimate goal was to flash CM11 but at this point I'll take a fully functioning stock device.
I'm stuck and my Google fu is failing me so any help would be appreciated.

I own a Galaxy S3 I bought from AT&T. It runs 4.4.2 and it is rooted. I rooted it two weeks ago via Odin and tried to put cyanogenmod on it. Luckily i backed up my phone before all of this happened. I did not know that i already had a cyanogenmod rom already installed on my phone(I am not very experienced with rooting and flashing custom roms). Since i already had cyanogenmod it would not flash and i kept getting an error and an aborted installation error. I did not know that I already had cm on my phone so I ignorantly kept trying over and over again. Then I tried flashing it to AOSP or something which was unsuccessful. I then flashed from clockworkmod recovery to teamwin recovery to see if flashing to Cyanogenmod would work using TWRP. Of course I failed so I wiped the dalvik cache and wiped my phone. When my phone booted up I had no service and it would not recognize my sim card. I have put my sim in other phones and it works completely fine. So iwent to the computer and tried flashing my phone back to its stock rom. Odin could not find the .zip file so I tried installing the zip in my recovery but I was unsuccessful in all of my attempts. In one of my attempts I actually soft bricked my phone but luckily I had a backup on my phone from before I started all of this. I have tried flashing the stock rom from my phone recovery and from the computer and I dont know what to do anymore. When i dial *#06# i get IMEI null/null. I have tried dialing in *#197328640#*and it does not show a menu. I have looked for similar threads and forums but I cant really find anything. My sim card is not recognized and on the google play store it says my phone has no carrier but I still have the MyAT&T app and my phone boots up like an AT&T phone. I looked in the efs file using Root Explorer and checked the carrier file. i found the hidden menu text and it said it is "OFF". Would this be the reason why i cant see the menu after dialing and if so do i need to change it from "OFF" to "ON"?

No it was fixed before you posted. Thank you for replying though. I had updated Superuser and it updated its binary and installed it with CW recovery and somehow the imei and everything went back to normal. Unfortunately my phone will no longer download or load files (No social media, torrents, or downloading extra files from apps)
