[Q] Install apk files for skins - General Questions and Answers

I downloaded weather & clock widget and i downloaded a clock skin, its a apk files. When I select it says invalid skin. How do i install it?

Find some form of file manager to look into the folders of your SD card where you put the apk files. Touch them and a pop up should come up to install them.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App

I tap it and it said " The application you are installing will replace another application. All previous user data will be saved."I tapped Yes and nothing happened. The widget didn't change.

Weatherbug Clock Modification

Hey guys
I just wanted to share with you something that the wonderful CrushD made for me/us
I take no credit, all i did was request that he do it for us, and he generously did
To install:
You can use Root Explorer to rename the original SamsungWidget_WeatherClock.apk in system/apps to SamsungWidget_WeatherClock.apk.bak. Then, just copy and paste the new version into that same folder, and you are set
Without any further a-do: This weatherbug Clock modification looks the same as the default TouchWiz clock, except when you click the clock itself, it sends you to the ClockPackage (where your alarm and such are! ). if you want to go to the weatherbug app itself, either use the bottom icon on the ticker , or click the "weatherbug" text at the bottom of widget itself

Yeah, I should have put this in the thread... It won't install normally, so all you have to do is use root explorer (or even adb if you don't have that) to rename the original In system/app then copy this one in, and your set
If you need the adb commands, just ask I'll upload a quick tutorial into the original post

Just finished applying the Weatherbug Clock Modification after installing the "3.30.11 Clean Continuum DL17".
Here's what I did:
-Get "Root Explorer" and install it on your phone (cost me $ but well worth it)
-Downloaded the file from the link above to your PC.
-Attached phone to PC, copy the downloaded file to SD card on the root
-Unmount SD card from PC. Unplugged cable from phone.
-Open Root Exploreron phone;
--click Mount R/W, click system, click app, long hold on SamsungWidget_WeatherClock.apk
--click rename, add .bak extension to the file, clicked ok
--scroll back to top, click Parent Folder, click Parent Folder again
--click sdcard, long hold on SamsungWidget_WeatherClock.apk. select copy
--drill back to /system/app, and select paste
-I restarted phone just for the heck of it. Now I tap the weather icon in the ticker and PRESTO! IT WORKS.
I'm not a Dev but I can follow directions. Maybe this can help someone else also. Just wanted to do my part to help.
disclaimer: You may not have to use or pay for "Root Explorer" to make this work. You might have something else that will do the same thing. Just make sure you have R/W access and the same capabilities.
Many thanks to CrushD for modifying the .apk file and trailblazer101 for help pushing the Mod out to US.
Glad it worked for you
if anyone would've asked I would've uploaded a quick free guide to do it, but no one asked I didn't want to type up the adb commands

If you want help getting the launcher back after installing the Clean Rom, just ask

[Q] Can't Install Themed APK

I have a stock Sensation, temp-rooted, and have a couple of themed apps I like (TweetDark, Transparent G+). Using root explorer, I navigate to downloads on my SD, select the APK and select install. It prompts that the app will replace an existing one, keeping user data (normal). It asks me to accept permissions (normal). It says installing (normal). Then is says Application Not Installed with a Done button (definitely not normal). I have third party apps allowed, and it let me install an APK that wasn't an overwrite, so why can't I install my themed APKs? Any suggestions/information would be most helpful.

you cant because the stock rom is .odex you need to de-odex the rom or apk for it to work or backup both the apk and .odex files to your sd now delete the .odex file install your apk and reboot
Thanks for your answer. I was afraid it would be something like that. The phone's a loaner as part of a T-Mobile feedback program so I don't want to muck with it to much.

Minimalistic text widget

I totally love this widget.
However, I'm trying to create a link to a specific file folder on my homescreen.
It can for example, choose links from the Folder Organzir widget but that's for apps only. (Ok...And shortcuts, but it doesn't recognize file folders)
Any ideas??

1) install ES file manager
2) browse to your desired folder
3) long press on your desired folder
4) press shortcut => this creates a shortcut to your desired folder on your homescreen.
Do you use stock launcher on any home replacement?
I use a combination of ES file explorer/ADWLauncher/Simple text icon

[Q] How do you install fonts?

I have a couple fonts I want to install, but I have trouble finding the Font folder. I'm using UCCW and it's asking me to "Put your fonds in sdcard in 'fonts' folder." However, when I connect my phone to my desktop, I can't find a Fonts folder anywhere. Did I not install some driver that allows my computer to see all available files?
Thanks for the help

you have to create a folder titled "fonts". There isn't a folder there by default.
Surprising what 5 seconds of Google can do for you.

Calendar Storage

My phone is a Blu Pure XL and rooted.
So I guess I made a slight mistake with wanting to get rid of the stock Calendar app because I just disliked it. Maybe should have just disabled it or something instead. I did a factory reset on it and somehow or another the Calendar app reappeared again. But I am still getting the issue where it shuts down because of the Calendar Storage not being installed anymore (Whoops). I looked online elsewhere and cannot find any apk. Help would be nice! I have tried with reinstalling the app as well and that does no good, I am assuming because it has nothing to do with the app, but rather Android itself.
I don't know if there is just that part I can install through TWRP or something? I know there is an apk app in the Play Store, APK Manager Downloader I believe, that allows you to save apks onto your SD card to send to others. Maybe that would download the apk files from the Pure XL calendar app, then it could be uploaded to this page and I could download and install it.
Resolution!
I was able to find a link (download.apks.org/?apkid=com.android.providers.calendar&ver=5.1.1-981c9024fa&server=darkkiller) for Lollipop 5.1+ Calendar Storage APK. Somebody helped me out on Google+.
You need Link2SD and ES File Explorer and the zip file you downloaded from above (DO NOT UNZIP THE FILE)
I saved the zip to my internal storage, opened the zip in ES File Explorer, and installed the APK in the zip. After that you will have a pop up where you can install. So install the Calendar APK.
Once that has finished, head on over to Link2SD and you should be able to find Calendar Storage. Tap on that then in the top right menu select "Convert to system app". You will have to reboot your phone after after that completes.
This should resolve your issues!
If you are running 4.4.4 and need Calendar Storage APK: (download.apks.org/?server=12&apkid=com.android.providers.calendar&ver=4.4.4-a1d45e8141)
