Visual Voicemail in Mango Beta - Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've installed Mango on my LG Optimus 7. I'm not able to activate Visual Voicemail. I'm on Deutsche Telekom. Any ideas?

Do you have the option enabled in your phone provider's account settings?
For some carriers, Visual Voicemail is a seperate option that needs to be added to your account before it can be used. You may have to call your carrier and have them add it, or go through your carrier's website to manage your own account and add it.

Do you have to do the same thing with AT&T?

I've enabled that option today in my carriers webportal. Can't find the option in Mango. Any more ideas?

Its under Phone settings in mango. If you can't find it, it may mean that Windows Phone doesn't support visual voicemail on your carrier.

I called att support today about visual voicemail and I was told it will cost 15 dollars to add it to your features. Thats att for ya.

Coulda swore it was free as long as you had an eligible plan and data plan. Which, if you have a smartphone, you should be eligible for. You may want to try and call again or check your account online and see if you can just add it yourself.

Other att users need to call also to see if I was given some bull$it.

If you look it up on the ATT website under services, its listed as free. So I don't know why he's charging for it.

For AT&T, visual voicemail is only available for BlackBerry & iPhone users and it's free. The addition to your plan is done on the back end after they confirm you have 1 of the 2 types of devices. Hopefully by the fall when Mango goes gold, they'll allow WP7 devices on their servers as well.

You might also be able to use a friends iphone or something and enable visual voicemail then see if it works on windows phone that way.

I would love that. As much as I enjoy some of Google's services, they are never as polished as Microsoft's offerings. Even if it required a paid hotmail account I would do it.

The acquisition of Skype may lead to something like this, I wouldn't doubt it.

I don't see any visual voice mail options in Mango. What am I missing?

I have an iPhone 4 and a Focus, with only one AT&T account/SIM between them. I have the account set up for the iPhone 4 (visual voice mail confirmed working). I loaded Mango last night, and moved the SIM over to my Focus. I called the Focus and left voice mail -- no visual voicemail, just regular voicemail notification and retrieval. I logged on to my AT&T account just now and checked my settings. It said I was using a Focus and my data plan is still listed as the iPhone unlimited.
I do not see any visual voicemail settings on my Focus. I have looked under Settings -> Cellular, and I have also looked in the settings in the Phone "app".

Its supported in the OS, but also requires carriers to turn on the feature for the platform. Since its not the official release, you likely won't be able to enable it until the release this Fall. They did not put the option in the preview build because the carrier contracts and ability to enable it wont start until the official release of Mango & its devices.
*edit* looks like its dependent on your carrier. AT&T only has support for iPhone & BB until Mango's official release. Some carriers may have this enabled for mango phones now and the option will be there if thats the case.

Suggest for Windows Mobile: Official Google Voice App

I was told Google would count the request made for applications & ideas, here.
We need everyone (who cares) to click suggest on the Windows Mobile suggestion button for a Google Voice App.
So far Blackberry, Andriod & iPhone have already [email protected] this.
Follow the link here:
http://www.google.com/support/voice/bin/static.py?page=suggestions.cs
Pretty much like voting
There are other selections and suggestions you can make here as well, so take advantage. Just keep in mind Goolge will skip windows mobile if no one is behind it.
IMHO a lot of big names seems to be brushing windows mobile to the side, too many for comfort.
Linky not working?
A native Google Voice app would be great. I'm worried, however, that Google is purposefully snubbing WM in order to bolster Android, though. We'll see, though.

Yeah, I'm hoping we don't get scrooged...
One of the things I look forward to having from this is the transcriber/visual voicemail. That Andriod & Blackberry has...
Google made Apple a Googe Voice App for the iPhone... Good yeah?.............. Not! Both AT&T & Apple kicked it out of the app store.
http://www.intomobile.com/2009/07/27/apple-pulls-google-voice-apps-from-appstore.html
Gee Google, all that WASTED time on a App that died the day it was available.
Hopefully we get an App on WINDOWS MOBILE now... I'm sure Apple & AT&T just PO'ed a $#!T load of people for that one.
FYI - if you go back next day, you can vote again.
Coming up on two years, and still nothing. Shame on google...

Visual Voice Mail

Developers,
Is there any way to make Visual Voice Mail work with Goog Voice instead? I refuse to pay $2/mo on TOP of $29/mo for VVM. Should be free in my opinion. I'd like to redirect VVM to contact GV instead so I don't have to go into the GV app to see my vm's.
Thanks.
I do the same and have the google voice app on my phone. But 9 times out of 10 im on a PC anyway and check it there.
just install the official google voice app from the market, it will walk you through on setting up no-answer call forwarding so when you dont pick up it forwards to your google voice vmail box.
comes in handy when you can just glance at the transcript and decide if its worth listening to

I might be misunderstanding -- but why is this needed? There's a dedicated app for Google Voice that works great, and you can remove VVM entirely when rooted. I'm confused why anyone would want to use an app specifically designed for one service on a different service, when a perfectly good app exists for that different service... is it just an aesthetic thing?

Well, maybe it's me, but I don't like having to go into two diff. apps to get the job done. I HATE having to switch apps to get this done. Not only that, but going into the Messaging app, and not being able to use part of it (I can't remember off the top of my head, but maybe dialer also) just reminds me of how much Verizon is trying to nickel and dime me. We pay $30 extra a mo. for service. That should be ALL inclusive, but NO! $2 extra for voice mail, $5 extra for messages, $30 extra for tethering... I mean seriously?
And seeing that non-working VVM in the Messaging/Dialer just extremely P!$$3$ me off! Not to mention that even though GV is GREAT, and well interfaced, it still doesn't work as seamlessly as the telco's original.

Google voice is not directly linked to your cell phone number.. Google voice assigns you a number and then links it up to your phone. It's true though that you can get google voice to act as your visual voice mail provider for the cell phone number you have.. but it is a bit buggy..
I am with the OP.. if there is a way to use the built in VVM without paying..I'll be all over it.

I'm going to have to disagree with you on the buggy part.... Google Voice works really well (been using it for 2 months). It's free and has more features than Verizon. To be honest, I thought the Verizon VVM was a lot more buggy than Google's.
My 2 cents...
I used youmail on my blackberry, and its only better on the incredible.

I second that- I set up GV to be my VM service for my cell and even set up personalized greetings for almost everyone in my contact list. The transcriptions are not perfect, but i get the gist- and if I'm really curious, I just listen to the VM.

Although nowhere is it clear cut on what "development" actually scopes, it has been the senior mods practice to keep development to ROM cooking/system hacking. Since this is clearly an app thread, I am moving it to the correct forum, yet leaving it linked in development. Please keep the above in mind before starting a new thread. This is not a reprimand, just some info and reminder. Thanks
so is there any way to get the visual voicemail that comes preinstalled on the Dinc free? i want to use it because the GV is laggy on mine but i dont want to pay the 2.99 a month for it.

Is there software like LowCaller (Voip>Landline) available for Android?

Hi all!
I'm virtually 100% an Android convert, putting it on my HD2 a week ago and barely looking back!
One of the few things I do need Windows Mobile for, though, is using a small application called LowCaller (lowcaller.com). This allows me to call contacts via my Voipcheap account but rather than going via the internet connection (WiFi, 3g) it calls a 020 (London) number and then directs me to the person I'm calling.
This means I get perfect quality international calls no matter where I am and I only use my inclusive contract minutes.
I've tried to contact LowCaller via their website but I can't get through to them (the damn verification code is always apparently wrong!) so can't find out if they have an Android version in the pipeline. They appear to support WM, iPhone, Blackberry and Symbian so an Android version would be very logical on their part!
Any alternatives?
Thanks!
I tried SipDroid with my SIP.
Can't hear anything on my end, maybe you have better results?
You can try Nimbuzz or Fring, and then add your VoipIP provider
Hey guys, thanks for the suggestions but these apps/messengers are solely for calling via Voip directly to another party, as opposed to calling a local number which then, via my Voip account, directs to another party (meaning that I can do it from anywhere without the need for an internet connection, and with perfect results - no lag, cut outs, etc.)
LowCaller is fantastic because I've driven around towns and countryside in England while talking via bluetooth to my friend in Canada on her mobile - the quality was practically like that of any normal call!
It works like this,
I select 'Call via LowCaller' from my phonebook > My phone calls an 020 London number owned by LowCaller > The call gets routed to the number of the person I'm calling and I lose my inclusive minutes just like any normal call.
I think rebtel might do what you need
I use jajah (jajah.com) . It works like you described. Sort of. They give you a local nr for all your foreign contacts. So there is no app but you just dial the unique local nr and your friend in timbuktu answers the phone.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
LowCaller
Come on guys!!
The guys is asking you about LowCaller in Android, and you recommend jahjah and Rebtel!!!!
JahJah and rebtel make a newnumber for each contact!! This is pain. You dont want to make a new number for each contact!!
We dont want to use 3g or wifi! we want to use a landline number.
So please, if you know anything exactly similar to lowcaller, please answer. Otherwise, DO NOT give bad recommendations!!
Afaik, rebtel does exactly what he asked for. I don't think you need to set up different no.s for different contacts, it just routes all international calls through a local no.

OK, I won't.
Bump!
Still no Android support from LowCaller. Any developments here guys?
Remember I'm after a LowCaller-type setup, i.e. I'm using my contract minutes to call a national number that will connect me to another number via my Voip account.
So stuff that simply makes calls via WiFi/3g isn't what I'm after (but thanks for the suggestions)
Peace

Hi keesvl55 - I've installed CcApp but can't work out how to (or if I'm able to) set it up to work with VoipCheap. I seem to be only able to add calling cards, which aren't what I'm using.
Looks like we're getting there anyhow!
I wonder if LowCaller will ever release a Droid version or update any of their current versions? It seems they never updated their WM client to work with 6.5.X, hence why I've always stuck with regular ol' 6.5, so maybe all hope is lost for them to come out with something themselves?
I guess another way would be to save the numbers LowCaller assigns my international contacts with in WM. I'm unsure, however, just how long these stay valid for before another gets assigned.
BUMP!
2,000 views so I can't be the only one after a LowCaller port / clone for Android!
I've noticed LowCaller's contact form on their website is working again now:
http://lowcaller.com/en/contact.php
Go there and request they release an Android version to the marketplace.
If you type "LowCaller" into Google now the first suggestion is "lowcaller android" or "lowcaller for android" - there's obviously a big demand so let's get harassing their developers!
Lord knows I might even click an ad or two should the need arise!

Christ! I think you may be right. I'll be trying it out tomorrow. Great spot !
Just a follow up to any one of the trillions Googling and finding this thread - as suggested above Betamax Dialer (now found on the market) looks like the way to go. The only difference I see between this and LowCaller is that with this you have to specify your Voip retailer's (e.g. voipcheap) local access number, so you only use that one number as opposed to a different landline number for each of your contacts in LowCaller.
I've bought Betamax Dialer Pro to show my support for a developer actually creating a Betamax local-calling client though I'm not sure exactly how the "call-2-call" or whatever it's called feature works. Guess I'll have a play around and see!
Under £1 on the market for Pro if anyone wants to try.
Thanks again 90180360.

The problem I have is that it doesn't integrate in the phone's dialer.
Also, if you want to choose a contact, it has to populate the contact list each and every time.
I still prefer to just save those contacts I want to call by VOIP as ACCESSNUMBER Pause PHONENUMBER in my phone book.
Works perfectly, no additional software needed.

Basic Visual Voicemail

So my wife has a Droid Turbo and I contacted VZW about an issue with her voicemail. In the discussion, the rep told me that there is a "Basic" tier of visual voicemail now that is free. He said it should be available on my phone, too.
However, all I've ever seen for the M8 is the $2.99 a month option, which is all I see in the Voice Mail app as well.
Is there any truth to what the rep told me, or was he smoking something?

Any luck figuring out basic visual voicemail on M8?
Hi There,
DId you ever find an answer to this question? I'm new to Android and just got an M8. I've been trying to figure out how to get a visual voicemail service set up ( I don't need transcription or lots of features- just the ability to see a list of messages and save some/delete some/play some). I also just read about the Verizon Basic Visual Voicemail and it seems perfect for me, but cannot see how to activate on the M8. When I click on the voicemail app, all I see is the 2.99 option ( and free trial). Were you able to figure if you can activate the basic VM on the M8, and, if so, can you please share how?
Thanks so much!

Thank you for your answer. Did you happen to find out if this is a result of the plan, or the phone? I've seen other people say it's possible, but with no explanation how. I still haven't set up voicemail. I see an option of for 2.99 VVM, a free trial for the 2.99 VVM, remind me later, or decline free trial. Did you run into these options as well? What explanation were you given by Verizon ( and how recently)? Thank you so much for responding.

RCS (messaging) on V20?

I'm seeing more and more about the RCS messaging (currently through Android Messages).
Right now it seems to only be available to Pixel owners.
I know that there are mods and magisk mods (google framework) that allow us to use other Google apps on the V20.
Anyone know of a way to use RCS messaging on the V20?

From what I've read RCS needs to be supported by your carrier. Model doesn't matter. You download Google messages and if it detects that your carrier has it implemented it then it will automatically show up in the settings for messages

Several things...and I'll probably miss some, so feel free to google search RCS.
Two major ones are:
1. It's more secure than SMS.
2. You can include more characters, attachments, etc., than SMS.
A minor reason is:
1. You see if the other person is still typing.
A personal reason is:
I have true unlimited data through an old grandfathered Verizon plan but limited SMS, so this allows me to use less SMS since RCS counts only toward Data.
So I enabled mine and got it working on my H918 on T-Mobile. However I'm unable to send any file that's bigger than 10MB (which was the stock max limit on T-Mobiles advanced messaging using the stock LG app. Anyone else have this issue? Everything else works (read receipts, typing indicator, and pictures I send under 10MB that send properly will show being sent through rich communication service).
[[[[[[[[[[[[[[[UPDATE]]]]]]]]]]]]]]
So apparently the only videos that won't send are ones that I've recorded with Hi-Fi audio enabled in the stock LG camera. Can any one else try this one verify. Not sure why that would matter unless it's more than just size restriction for the limit.

On rr7, los 17.1 and los 18 it's working. But make sure your service provider supports it.
