Infuse screen size. - Samsung Infuse 4G

"HTC Eternity leaked: 1.5GHz processor, 4.7-inch display, front-facing camera"
Looks like HTC is over the 4.3 and even our 4.5 screen size and wants to go bigger. I guess it was inevitable for companies to keep going for a larger screen. Thoughts?

I dont know man! Any bigger and our phones will become tablets. The Dell Streak at 5 inches is a tablet as far as I'm concerned. 4.5 is perfect.

well thought 1. The eternity is windows mobile.
thought 2, wow we're fighting back up to the streak.

i want the whole front of my next phone to be screen, no visable rim, well i'd like to keep the rim down to about .040"in. really the soft-keys can go on the screen somewhere like some of the new tablets, or harware buttons can be around the rim of the phone, the mic goes a the bottom of the phone anyway, no reason the speaker cant come through the top of the phone at an angle or sit behind the screen with a channel to bring sound to a port at the top of the face that could be extremely small. i think with the right designer you could go a full 5" on a phone and be no bigger than many of the current 4.3" phones!

Dani897!you nailed it.. But inclued stereo speakers

Maybe the Streak was ahead of its time. If it hadn't had such an old OS on it, I would have given it a shot.

the streak is definitely something i call a phone, not a tablet. it was definitely bulking and had larger bezel like a table. but if it was a ligher thinner low-bezel design i would even be willing to go up in size and still consider it a phone.

4.5 is perfect, I have to think to myself what would any larger do at this point. Well for one the battery would be worse, I enjoy media and games on this now and have NO need for more real estate. 4.7 doesn't seem like a lot different but I already have to shift my hand a hair to reach the notification bar, I wouldn't be able to touch the top on a 4.7 without sliding my hand up or using 2 hands. Samsung nailed the size. Also yes the eternity is going wp7 so it's not even a concern of mine anyway. However if it's screen size I am more than happy where I am.

Have a dell streak. Great piece of hardware and thanks to DJ Steve's great roms, the software is up to speed. The 5" screen is a great size, but the overall design couls be improved to decrease the size of the phone. I have the streak and an iphone4 and the infuse hits the sweet spot between the two.

Yeah, there are more images and information over at Engadget II: Engadgeter. http://thisismynext.com/2011/06/28/mytouch-slide-4g-announced-2/
If the bootloader is unlocked, I might consider it. However, odds are, it isn't. MySense isn't exactly my favorite. The device itself is basically a chubbier Glacier with a keyboard, and not as nice of a screen as the Sensation. I really wish they would've ditched the ugly chrome stylings, but I guess that's their "brand" for this line. The 3.7" form factor is also a little too small for my tastes, and I'm looking to get at least a 4" screen next time. Not to mention: I'm still kinda pissed that T-Mo dumped the Glacier so hard, providing only a single crappy official accessory (BT dock) that didn't make use of the phone's docking pin feature, and smashed in the power button.
The camera is interesting, but the standard Google camera app leaves a lot to be desired, and I would be rooting this thing for sure.
At this point, I think I'm happy with my Glacier until the Nexus 3 comes around. If I had to pick a phone between then, I would prefer the Galaxy S II or the Sensation. How about you guys?

Exactly, why can't they make a 4" or 4.3" qwerty slider. Don't think people will mind the bigger bulk right...?????
I don't think you need a bigger screen if you have a keyboard ... Just my thought ....
Sent from my My Touch 4G using XDA Premium App
While having a bigger screen does mean bigger touchscreen keyboard and less errors, nothing can ever replace a hardware keyboard thats/as was solid as the g1 imo.
I just can't understand why every manufacturer has a hard time making a 4' screen with a 5 row keyboard? I agree the G1 had the best keyboard, hence why I just upgraded last week because it was extremely outdated.

Screen. G2x vs iPhone 3gs

I fail to see the quality in an iPhone. I never played with one until today and I gotta say its slow and lame. Screen looked dull compared to my g2x and about a little better compared to my g2. It is nicer than the mt4g tho colorwise. Overall I just don't see they hype about iPhone.

The iPhone 4 is the one with the nice screen, not the 3gs.

The iphone 4 is still a pretty decent phone considering the specs. It IS pretty quick, and doesn't have huge issues. Also, apple made one type, so if it experiences issues you'd better believe you're getting an update in a reasonable amount of time that'll fix it. Its not a dual core beast, but still manages to be competitive.
I have a work issued 4th gen iPod touch and it handles games quite well that look equivalent to what's available for my g2x. I'd never purchase an apple product just in spite of them, but they do build great products.

I have a second gen ipod touch that's feels the same as my buddies 3gs it's just a little thicker and could make phone calls easier but nothing special..
I also havent touched my Ipod touch in a year lol I need to charge that thing
But all in all the only plus I see to an Iphone is itunes very easy to sync media to an average user.even my wife could use itunes and that says alot. I would choose android every time.

I dunno. I phone sucks. Screen transitions are just lazy. Smooth but lazy. Not impressed at all
G2x with CM7 and faux kernel. NONSENSE!!!!
Up until 2 months ago I had an iPhone4. Actually had the iPhone since the first release day a few years back. Having gone through all life cycles of the iPhone I can say the 4 has the best screen.
In comparing the iPhone 4 screen with my G2X, the iPhone wins as far as higher quality images. But it severely lacks in screen size. With the screens being different in size it really is hard to do an honest comparison of quality. But I do love the G2x in regards to being a more responsive better handling machine. Kind of like comparing a 68 VW Bug to a 68 Camaro. The bug isn't gonna keep up with the Camaro by a long shot
Just my .02 worth
IPhone is all hype. Period. I ****ing hate the iPhone, ipad, ipenis it whatever other icrap they push down the sheep's throats.

The iPhone 3Gs is outdated... Screen Resolution was 480 x 320... 600MHz processor, and 256MB of RAM. iPhone 4, although single core, has a better screen by far. I have a G2X, and I love it! But I give props to apple for creating an amazing screen.

yea i think he might have meant the iphone 4, the screen is nice it has that retina display, real crisp and sharp. but for the g2x not having retina display or even qhd for that matter it definitley holds its own big time i love my screen been rockin it without the screen protector for a month now and it is beautiful, not one scratch! but i will say when iphones usually come out they stay near the top of the competition for a while even after coming out 6 months ago, and that is pretty cool , cuz we all know how fast phones get phased out, oh and one more thing my brother has the iphone 4 and dude the animations are on point u cant say there not, even just turning the phone into landscape mode for typing, **** is super smooth, thats about the only things i really notice that take the g2x a little
Besides the apps, the iPhone battery has always outlasted my android devices including g1, mytouch 3g, Samsung vibrant, mytouch 4g, g2x, without heavily configuration my battery isn't even close, that's one thing I wish the developers would work at, I could play fieldrunners for hours and still have awesome battery this was with the iPhone 3g, I could only imagine it would be better on the 4, regardless I still love my g2x.

Its just ridiculous and kinda embarrasing actually. I think my choice for the samsung hercules or galaxy s 2 if i go to att b4 merger happens just got easier. Um what? I just got 4.8 while on 3G. I'll test 4G sometime this week when I have it.
I don't like the high white point of S-AMOLED. Everything looks very blue. Plus I feel restricted to use only dark or predominately black backgrounds in order to conserve battery, and web browsing eats battery at a prodigious rate. All that white...
I did enjoy my Vibrant, which I had before my MT4G, mainly because it was a 4" screen, which is my sweet spot, and the SGS's wonderful Wolfson DAC. Sound quality was phenomenal on that phone.
It almost makes me want to pick up a Galaxy S 4G, but the lack of CyanogenMod/AOSP ROMs really does keep me on my Glacier.
Samsung is mopping up their mess they made with the vibrant(at least with developers) when they offered cyanogenmod and team members those free galaxy s 2 phones it was like hey were sorry please hack our phones and put custom roms on it. Thats a big step forward for a company like samsung to take and win over a community, especially with their superior displays and somewhat easier methods of unlocking their phones.

roughly how big is the screen difference?
sorry for the delayed response but the sidekick has a 3.7 screen i think and the htc has a 4.3!
The sidekick 4g has a 3.5 inch screen. Both have the same resolution. the whole wp7 on hd7 is a lot smoother than the sk4g. But having a keyboard and android was enough for me to stop using the hd7 even though the windows phone 7 virtual kb was really good.
Id say go for it if a real keyboard and android is important to you.

G2x Vs Nexus S (GSM Version)

I am planning on getting either phone.
Which phone do you think is better and WHY?
Nexus s. Pure Google experience. Get updates much faster, such as Ice Cream Sandwich. G2x seems very problematic from what I have heard. The screen on nexus is better, the only thing going for the g2x is the processor and slightly faster data speeds.

I've had the G2x i traded to the Nexus S
They're about equally matched
The G2x doesnt have reboot issues anymore (after update)
at first, when dual-core was bleeding edge, it had some problems
The screen is slightly curved on the edges
1080p video
Dual-core tegra 2 (my Nexus S outscored the tegra 2 in Quadrant Video subsection)
Screen is average
Less plasticy then the Nex
Speaker is not loud at all
LG doesnt give the best tech support
The Nexus S will get updates faster
No Micro SD (16GB built in at high speed)
NFC (Google Wallet+MasterCard/PayPass)
No 720p video
Screen is amazing, pentile may look funny the first 2 days, but i cant even tell the difference anymore..
Curved glass feels nice on your fingers
Minor WiFi reception problems
It all depends on what you want. I traded a used G2x for a new in-box Nexus S. I just love the AMOLED screen, you cant tell where the screen ends, that's how good the contrast ratio is

No, its an LG Optimus G2x.
The Galaxy S 2 is a GS2.
But thanks guys .. still wondering. Its hard when you want a phone thats going to last you a bit.
Heres how I see it:
nexus s: Better battery, better screen, nicer design.
g2x: Better performance, more powerful phone, better build quality.
So here i am trying to get convinced lol.
Wow i have had both phones & j was happy with my g2x after i learned how to root n upgrade to g.b. but the nexus is kind of faster. I think either phone is good but there's more dev & mods on the g2x.
This is because the nexus s everything works out the box.

i used tge G2x and currently now im on Nexus S. These are the reasons i didnt like G2x:
-Battery Life is not as good as Nexus S.
-The LCD is actually really nice and bright, how ever the pixel density and image quality are no where near as good as Nexus S.
-To be really picky, the phone is awkward shaped and proportioned, its too tall for its screen size
+every other reason people have mentioned, HOWEVER i didnt have a single known issue problem with mine
hope this helps

Dude, I did the same thing –bought a G2x and a Nexus S on Craigslist and have been playing with them for about week now. G2X, rooted and ROMed, is fast, stable and a nice looking machine. On the right ROM, the battery can last all day, evening with streaming music, calls and texts, and still be half full. The camera is fargging great, too. There are two complaints I have. One is that the G2x feels a little awkward in my hand, especially compared with the curved Nexus S, which fits perfectly. The G2x is just a millimeter or two too wide for a comfortable grip for me. The other is the ICS situation. I’m sure the G2x devs will get ICS onto the phone via Cyanogen or whatever, but because LG won’t be open with certain drivers it’s uncertain whether ICS will be able to take full advantage of the phone. Oh yeah, and the comment about the sound issue is accurate, too. Although sound clarity is great, the speaker is quiet – if you’re in a crowd or noisy room, it can be a little difficult to hear who you’re talking to.
Basically, you can’t go wrong with either phone. I’ll probably hang on to both until it becomes more clear how the ICS situation plays out and then sell one of them.
Honestly, I dont even care about ICS lol .. I just want an all around better phone.

See that is why ics is so important. The UI will be hardware accelerated giving you the smoothest experience possible. Hardware acceleration on a single core will blow away a software accelerated dual core.

Short battery life, GPS problems, reboots and some other small stuff that made it not worth it. Switched back to my CM7 Nexus One and remembered Nexus is always the way to go and waited until I could get meee Nexus S
