Does the previous skype app not work anymore (I had it on my Tbolt before I returned it). I ask because I am seriously considering getting it again. I noticed I could download the skype app on my epic.
Video skype only works on froyo
Posted from my Nokia V560
Uhh no the new Skype Video they jsut released only works on certain phones. Engadget claims it was for "2.3 devices" but it is actually only "Supported handsets right now that allow video calling include the HTC Desire S, Sony Ericsson Xperia neo, Sony Ericsson Xperia pro and the Google Nexus S. "
AND NO IT DOES NOT WORK ON THE THUNDERBOLT!!!
More info is here... http://blogs.skype.com/en/2011/06/smile_skype_for_android_with_v.html
The one satseeker is referring to is the leaked one from a while ago and yes that one only works on Froyo/2.2
This just irks me, and is one thing that I detest about the Android ecosystem.
However the other thing I detest is stupid companies like HTC releasing a phone with a FFC that is literally worthless without third party support. Because HTC sure didn't make use of it besides the camera app (that's a joke).
what else is new another app not working on the thunderbolt

If you installed the leaked MR2 Update a few weeks ago, the leaked Skype with video calling from back in April will no longer work.

Yep. It works fine. My wife is in Germany and we have been skyping almost daily. her on the TB, me on my TB or a laptop.
I am actually surprised as to how well it works.

Interesting...I can't seem to get it to video call on my stock rooted MR2 rom.
I am on BAMF 1.7 and the Skype app installed just fine. However, even when it's running in the background (I signed-in), I couldn't receive calls. I tried calling Skype in TB from PC, Mac and an iPhone and it doesn't ring.
Not sure what is the issue.

I just came from the Atrix. I thought that I would be OK running the atrix without mods(locked bootloader), but i think i went through with-drawls from CM. Motorola blows goats with their locked blootloaders. Ther stock price is down 10%
Design Gears bricked his phone, that was the final straw. I will never by a Motorola phone again
Loving it too!
Coming from Leo I have found it very similar just with more mpx and RAM/ROM
Bye physical buttons as well.
So far so good (2 days with it)
some testings have showed that browsing speed of Atrix is not faster than Inspire. Proud to own an Inspire.
I agree, it is a great phone. Had it for a week now, it was a nice upgrade from my HTC Aria.
Love this phone too. Coming from 4 years of every iPhone - finally got bored and made the jump.
At first it was like a really bad break up - thought about the iPhone 4 every single day, missed it when I would hold or caress another phone, and wanted many of the features/memories back. Now after about two months, rooting, flashing to MIUI (following weekly builds), cattleprod's Cyan04.7 Kernel, and other tweaks and mods, I'm wholeheartedly fulfilled and more ways then before. Can't imagine going back to that terrible world I was in before.
Don't get me wrong, I have an iPad 2 and wouldn't give that up for the world (or any other Android tablet) though. Apples vs oranges though.

So yes needless to say I love my Inspire 4g! In fact trying to talk buddy of mine into buying one instead of the Infuse. I prefer HTC.

The infuse has about 1/2 the RAM and only 200 MHz more CPU (easily in the stable OC range)
Also, the only bad thing about moving from the iPhone was the apps I had bought. It was SO easy to sync my contacts to Gmail.
I love his phone also. After rooting, custom Roms etc... this phone is even better. I switched from being and Iphone user and will not go back. I am waiting to get my wife one for her upgrade so she can get rid of the Iphone also.

Count me in on the Inspire love. I've had mine for a couple months now and find it still to be an exceptional smartphone. I haven't rooted mine but I do use custom launchers. Currently using GO Launcher EX with the GoContacts/GoDialer and continue to be amazed by this Inspire.
I can't take screenshots on my Inspire but this is exactly what it looks like from these screenshots of my HD2. The only difference is the taskbar.
I was hoping the Inspire would have HDMI out, a kickstand, and a front facing camera. I would've already gotten the Inspire had it come with those features. I'm still considering it, but I don't want to get it if it's possible HTC is coming out with a phone with the above features anytime soon... thoughts?
Honestly if you keep that mind set you'll never be satisfied. Especially in todays market with new phones and different features coming out every other day.

+1, choose a phone that you like and stick with it. There will always be something better around the corner.
I had similar thoughts like you before i got the inspire, but honestly, i dont even use the front facing cam on my previous iphone, although it can only video call with wifi, but i havent had a time when i wished i could use the video call when i didnt have wifi connection.
Git the inspire now and still dont regret not having a front cam. Sure its nice to have one, but how often do u use it.
Well at least the above essay is from my pov
When the times come that everyone is video calling, i would have changed my phone before then
Have fun, get what u want now, there is always a time when u say 'i wish i had waited' in regards to electronics/tech stuff

Hi I may be posting in the wrong place but I was wandering if it was possible to port Webos on the inspire. Even though Webos is gone it still would be cool.
Sent from my Desire HD using xda premium
I highly doubt that will happen. I may be wrong but I believe WebOS is closed source, meaning that we will more than likely never see WebOS on something that was not meant to run it. I do believe it runs a Linux kernel, but then you would have driver issues (I would imagine).
Once again, I am purely speculating from a NON-programming standpoint.
yeah, highly unlikely. but honestly, after using my touchpad all week, i really wish i had some apps for it. as a tablet OS, its great, but it just needs some apps so the device can actually be used.
I remember talking to some guys in the nexus one dev threads, and while it was definitely within all of our capabilities to try and reverse engineer even a leaked web OS rom, there would be serious legal ramifications. (That is, if it was successfully ported and became mildly popular)
Case in point, ps3, a closed source system/ OS, and geohotz.

just read an artical on androidcentral that the htc google nexus one got android 2.3.6.
In the meantime nexus s 4G got andorid 2.3.7 and the normal nexus s is still n 2.3.4
why do they forget this device where there are still lott of bugs with wifi and keeping connection with google.
Hopefully this will better with ics
Will the NS even get ICS? :/
Sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk
if the nexus even got gingerbread and now 2.3.6 then the ns would get ics or i will never buy a nexus phone again
I'm really pissed at this too! If they were to give an explanation, fine, but there ain't nothing been said!
Sent from my Nexus S
I dont think the nexus one will not because google doses not want to but b/c of the hardware its too outdated it has little memory, ram etc so it will be buggy and laggy and goovle would prefer a much smoother experience I heard once it got gingerbread it was acting slow, nexus prime 4 me : D
Sent from my HTC Glacier using Tapatalk
2.3.6 was a bug fix for a bug the original Nexus S doesn't have, same with 2.3.5. 2.3.7 on the other hand brought Google Wallet which is Sprint Exclusive and since i9020t has GSM bands and not CDMA and can therefore not run on Sprint's network we don't get it.
The 2.3.6 update stared rolling out to Nexus S devices on September 2nd. From what I've read, it is mainly to fix the search button bug that has been affecting some NSs. So far I think only Canadian NSs have received the update, though.
I wouldn't be so upset that you're not receiving the update though because there are reports that it kills tethering and portable hotspot.
http://thisismynext.com/2011/09/02/...ate-confirmed-rolling-out-tethering-problems/
I wouldn't be too worried about ice cream sandwich. Google wants the open handset alliance to commit to 18 months of updates for all devices. (I suppose this would be 18 months from launch, rather than 18 months from whenever you happened to buy it.) I can't image them not updating a pure google phone for even 12 months. I wouldn't be surprised if the n1 got it, too.

Says the guy who is logical and not knee jerking. Why is everyone up in arms about not getting an update the targeted bug fixes NOT for their device? Outside of 2.3.7 you're not missing anything.
Wallet was always going to be a Sprint exclusive launch since it was announced.
If you want the latest build Google provides the binaries, source and instructions to build an AOSP rom. It's simple and you can easily always be as up to date as you would like.

I don't see any problem here. My 2.3.4 running i9023 is working just fine, without any search/tethering/reception/other problems, so I guess those fixes don't apply to my device
Maybe device specific fixes should have some kind of unique name? Like 2.3.4a?
If anyone is here to be blamed, I would point out Samsung for making at least 4 different devices named Nexus S with their own issues i9023 is not even anywhere officially listed as SNS...
Oh, and stock GB on N1 was not even close to be as good as on SNS. 2 second wait before call answer anyone?
Good day gentlemen
For the people with the original nexus s complaining...I feel you cause I have it myself. Yes at first I was pissed of about not getting updates. But after doing some research I finally realized we have in all the nexus versions have the perfect built. Update 2.3.5 brings better 4G reception for sprint users. I also wanted 4G but not noticing my phone does run hsdpa even though it says 3G. Update 2.3.6 brought voice search fixes. That we don't need. And now 2.3.7 it is not googles fault they wanted google wallet to get pushed through but T-Mobile has a deal with ISIS another form of mobile payment. So yes I understand your frustrations. But know it is not googles fault its your carriers like myself T-Mobile. And which I think tmo is no longer running the show but at&t. So be happy with your original nexus s it is the perfect built among others.
And I'm a proud user of my nexus s running stock 2.3.4 rooted

Developers need an ICS leak to make anything new, how many GB ROMs do you want? As far as the CM9 RIL has proved to be a huge problem. So no, developers still have Thunderbolts they just need something new to work with, instead of pointing fingers at them, point them at HTC.

While it's not the fault of the dev's, we have been forgotten. The thunderbolt is unfortunately old news and most likely won't have much more activity until we get ICS/JB.
Its more like HTC doesn't give a crap about our phones anymore. It's unacceptable that they haven't put out an update sooner.
I'm still here!
Most phones were forgotten (or stagnated) on Verizon when the Nexus came out. Anyone who didn't see that coming was just a tad short-sided.

Bionic already has 4 ICS leaks...and blame HTC. Anyway, the Incredible S (GSM Dinc 2) got ICS today. Here's the thing - the Thunderbolt was replaced by the Rezound a long time ago, and it's honestly not that great of a phone anyway. It was the first LTE phone, but the specs were far behind other phones that came out before it. It will be nice when it finally does get ICS (and it will, but remember the 2.3.4 update took a very long time as well), but most people (like me) who bought this phone will have already moved on, or be well on their way to a better phone by the time it finally is released. As far as being forgotten by developers - not forgotten, but they have moved on to better phones. The Thunderbolt is old hat - 1Ghz Snapdragon w/ 768MB RAM, the developers have moved on to better things, for the most part.

That and point really at Google for.this messed up veal they allow which is so stupid. We need to stop overlays on android and have the same user experence as any other device a unified way. On touch six.you select wick widget it brings up any available wick if one is not already selected on sense and stock that does not happen. Not a great user way here.
