I've noticed a very distinct difference in the music quality between my Nexus S and my iPad 2. When playing the same song in earphones, it sound much louder, clearer, and deeper on my iPad. It's almost like the Nexus doesn't go loud enough. How can I fix this?
Installing a kernel with Voodoo Sound (and the Voodoo Control app from the market) will improve sound quality and allow you to increase your sound output.
Or, just root and install voodoo control plus, that doesn't need a custom kernel...

Is there any way to root the Nexus without using ADB?
Yes, you dont need adb to root... where you read "push adb..." in the root guide, replace by "plug usb cable, mount as usb storage and copy the file"

Its super easy to root it..just fastboot OEM unlock then push the superuser zip and push cwm ..took me 10 min

And with voodoo control it has amazing effect on the headphones

Netarchy's 1.3.7 kernel has the updated v10 voodoo sound driver, there is a definite improvement over the stock sound when using voodoo control
the best and quick way is to have a better earphone.
however, looking forward for your testing for voodoo.

People say my voice is low and they can barely hear me..on cm7 never heard that before.
Running stock rooted 2.3.7 matrix 4.5 kernel.
I tried using a voice recorder app and it sounded fine.
Anything I can do?

Are you using voodoo sound? If so, do you have the oversampling enabled on the mic? If so, turn it off.
I have voodoo control but I do not see that option.

In my opinion Volume+ boost is the best app for sound boost
Just try
SuperCurio's Voodoo LOUDER app made for GNote. Boost done at hardware level for cleanest sound possible. The best volume booster out there hands down.
Audioboost sgs2 best by note

It's like, if u have NOTE, u should have this Voodoo Louder.

Do we even have equalizer/spectrum analyzer effect app like EQu from elephantcandy app? I'm more interested in the spectrum effect.. would be cool if playing in the car.

Your phone (nexus s) is i9023, not i9230 .
The only reason you shouldn't buy the i9250 is because it does not have a wolfson sound chip therefore not compatible with voodoo sound.
If you're not as audiophilic as i am, you should buy it.

what this voodoo sound for?im curious..is it anything to do with multimedia player or maybe an enhancement of audio quality when we use the headset?
Sent from my Nexus S using xda premium
It's a app + kernel mod that brings the wolfson chip to its full potential. It's not a music player, but it works on any music player app.
You must be have a custom kernel that supports it. There's a BIG difference in sound quality.
at the moment im using cm10.1 nightlies..can i get that kernel from this rom?are there any config i should set to max the sound chip?

CM10.1 stock kernel already has the voodoo sound mod.
All you gotta do now is download "voodoo sound" app from playstore. Configure to your own liking.
