This worked great for me. Even though I have 2.3, there's non-Gingerbread instructions.

Yeah.
For anyone who didn't know, you can use the google voice app to make calls.
The way it works is you "call" someone with the app, and then google voice calls you and the person you're calling, and connects you.
Due to our provider allowing unlimited incoming calls, you can make all your calls for free.
I personally don't do this, as I can't possibly burn through 1000 minutes in a month anyway.
What's really cool is you can have it automatically use the app when you dial any number not in your exceptions list and set its quite hours for nights and weekends. The calls receiver still sees your number.

I believe there may be third party apps in the market that will allow you to do that. I'm not sure though. Can you do so with a google voice number?
There is an app called Skebby Free MMS in the market that says it sends text and mms messages via wifi. It's only free if you send it to someone else that is using the same app though. Otherwise, it will cost you money.
There is also WhatsApp and it is free for a year.

Maybe you should begin learning how to form proper question then. Do a search on the Market for WiFi MMS or pay the 10 bucks a month.
thanks everyone for your help I'll. let you know how it turns out.

Hey xda well Skype just update and now has video chat on nexus s and a couple other phones and I was wondering if there's a way to make it think we have a nexus but I'm pretty sure it might be the same steps when people tried the Netflix app. Also I think I read its only gingerbread not sure anybody on cm7 might give it a try.? Thanks xda.

I am interested in getting this working as well. I use skype for business as well as to my brother in law in Alaska. It would be nice to use my phone instead of being tied to a less mobile laptop.
+1 so far there is no way to have a video call to a pc.. whether it is skype, gtalk, or msn
+1 comeon skype - i have dual camera's and wifi/fast3g on my g2x - i just want some video chatting to other skype folks.
When oovoo updates thier app, we'll be able to use that to video call computers.

You have to change multiple lines in the build.prop. Not just the line that shows your phone model. I used this method to get my MLB at-bat live to work on my Vibrant 4g.
My G2x isn't rooted yet, but if someone posts the build prob I can show you the lines to change.
Try:
ro.product.model=Nexus S
ro.product.manufacturer=Samsung
If that doesn't work post a build.prop file... I believe another line might need to be changed..

Hi guys. Does anyone know where to get Google voice lite? I install Google voice from the market and during setup it yells me my carrier is not supported. Any help would be great. Thanks.
Sent from my SCH-I510 using XDA Premium App

It's just saying that it cant automatically set up the no answer transfer to divert calls from verizon's voicemail system to GV. You can do that manually.

can you initiate the hangout from the phone app? or does it already have to be setup through the full website?
you can initiate a hangout from the phone and it does nit require wifi. Google talk works good too but you have to mod some files to use it over 4g.

I've also used Skype on both WiFi and my data plan and worked great. I also tried out Tango and it's worked out great as well - I actually like Tango more than Skype.
Maria
I've used Skype on mine, the resolutions seems a bit quirky, and the software doesn't look very pleasing when doing the video call. However it works well, especially in a area with awesome LTE coverage.
