[Q] Does Charge support USB OTG? - Verizon Droid Charge

I know that several android devices support the on-the-go spec to enable usb keyboards, mouse, external hd's, etc...and I've been looking in to buying a micro usb to usb a adapter that would allow me to plug in regular usb devices. Has anyone messed around with the Charge to see if it actually supports usb OTG? Using a keyboard or usb controller with this phone would be awesome, especially since I just bought the HDMI output cable.

I'd like to know as well, would be nice to use a keyboard

I do not know if about otg but bluetooth keyboards and mice work.

Apparently other Galaxy S phones support USB OTG at the SoC level, but as far as I can tell no one has actually been able to get it working.
Not sure about the Charge specifically.

Ice cream sandwhich or whatever they are calling 2.4 (these names really confuse me) is supposed to open it up to all the SoC's that have it integrated and not doing anything at the moment.

[Q] HP Touchpad OTG support?

So simple question, does anyone know (have tasted) if Touchpad supports OTG like for example Galaxy S2?
I bought these from DX: http://www.dealextreme.com/p/micro-usb-on-the-go-host-otg-adapter-pair-50774 and is working great with my Galaxy S2, but can it be used for Touchpad?
First, it is TESTED.
Second, Nope no native support yet, might have to wait till android port is complete, might take a couple of months.

That's pretty cool, keep up the work.
Does anyone have ubuntu chrooted to check if the usb module is reporting anything?

The Touchpad doesn't have a powered port is the only problem - so provide power to whatever device and you're good to go.
what about a external HDD with its own powe supply, will it work..
unfortunately, i'm still waiting for my TP so cant test
Does it work with your HD2?
If so, there is no reason not to work with TP
(Hint: HD2 has same kind of usb host capabilities that needs external power supply)
So was it ever established whether or not USB OTG works on the Touchpad? Sorry to necro-post, but I picked up a touchpad during the firesale, have been loving it with first WebOS then CM9, and since I ordered a USB OTG adapter for my GSIII (this friday!) I was curious if there was anything I needed to know about using OTG with the HPTP.
It just works with a powered adapter. Nothing more to it then that. I've plugged almost everything into mine!

Thanks for the help. My OTG cable and other things from Monoprice should've come yesterday, so hopefully I'll have them tomorrow. By powered adapter, do you mean something like a powered USB hub? Although I didn't get that OTG cable for the touchpad, it'd be a nice treat to be able to use it with that, it would definitely make moving movies around a lot easier.
EDIT (10/19): Dangit, they didn't come today. I'll have to see what's up, because they've been in my area for a while according to tracking just not coming.
Yes, u will have to use either a powered USB hub or get power from a USB charger that doesn't have the data +/- pins shorted internally (purchased or modified). If u plug device (ie phone) into charger and it says "ac charging" that means the data pins are shorted.

Alright, thanks. I think I need to get a powered hub for my laptop (which I am currently using as a desktop with external monitor and keyboard) so I there may be a happy coincidence here.
Also, just checked on my touchpad, and the HP charger says charging (AC) as well as my phone charger, which I think started life destined for some Blackberry.
The powered hub should work though, and that would make a great machine for typing and working in bed as opposed to my laptop burning my thighs off.

I just verified that if you get the Micro USB Host OTG Cable With USB power ($6 from AppleCable on Ebay) that Ramjet73 mentioned (or this one), it will work with any standard USB charger (ie the 1 Amp HTC or 2 Amp HP Touchpad Charger) because the USB Power Connector is Isolated. I also picked up Applecable's USB 2.0 3 Port Hub with data Sync Charger cable for $7 (I may try to modify it to be a USB OTG powered hub with this).
I will be updating the OTG thread I mentioned earlier. See attached:
I've never successfully used OTG. I've bought 2 cables.

How to make nexus s support USB OTG -- somebody already success

any body successed ?
Bad news, there is no way to enable OTG
Because NS uses usb switch chip FSA9280A, and this chip doesn't support OTG.

I made a mistake, there is a FSA9480 in the phone, so it support OTG in hardware.

I haven't had any luck getting this to work.
I tried hooking up a USB mouse, game pad (wired 360 controller) and a USB flash drive. However nothing happened when I plugged them in.
I connected them using a micro USB to USB adaptor and an externally powered USB hub.
Since the Galaxy Nexus appears to support OTG without issues, I'm guessing it's not working on the NS because of some sort hardware incompatibility.

first of all, are you sure your kernel configure support OTG ?
and then, the "micro USB to USB adaptor " is type-A(pin 4 connected with GND) ?
btw, the cup(S5PC110)'s datasheet shows it support OTG.
Ah, I did not realize there were different types of USB OTG adaptors. Thanks for bringing that to my attention.
I did a bit of digging around and it seems that it's not too difficult to modify the adaptor from type B to type A, provided you have basic soldering ability (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1092493). Perhaps I'll give that a go when I get some free time.
Has anyone else tried this feature on NS with any success?
This only applies to the Nexus S i9020.
i9023 seems to user another USB chip (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1431151) for which are OTG kernels available:

[Q] USB Hosting on ICS, possible for the G2x?

Hi. I've just recently tried out an app from the market that would let me control emulators and some games with a Wii remote, but it wasn't compatible with my G2x. However, I stumbled upon what is most commonly known as "OTG" cable, but discovered they were worthless for the G2x as of now because 2.3 doesn't have USB hosting.
What I wanted to know is, number one, will the G2x have USB hosting when the official 4.0 update comes out, or is it missing some special hardware needed for that? And number two, is there any risks in just getting a cheap MicroUSB to Female USB cable from a trusted seller? Like, can it damage any internal parts because of different voltages between devices or something like that? Or is the worst thing that can happen is the cable simply not working?
I'd really appreciate an answer on this one, because USB hosting seems to open up a lot of possibilities with our devices.
The short answer as of right now is NO there aren't any common ways to enable USB Host. With that said, can the Tegra2 chip in the G2x support host mode?...yes. Will it require a custom kernel?...yes. So basically your phone needs to be rooted to say the least and a kernel framework to enable and support it. I'm actually looking into this as we speak but it's looking like it'll be a while.
As for the cable... no most generic micro-USB cable won't work as is. The OTG cables have either a 'grounded' 4th pin or a disconnected 4th in some usb host modes. But either way you either need an OTG cable or if you search online you can find several ways to splice and solder back generic USB.
I have been looking for a while, but there doesn't seem to a custom kernel that supports USB Host mode. I already have USB OTG adapter (mini Male to 4 pin USB female) + arduino board etc.. So are there any custom kernels out there?

I guess I can look for a Bluetooth airmouse as a last resort.

No OTG happiness for the G2X with any ROM and/or Kernel. There is a board from Sparkfun which provides an interface that enables a non-OTG phone to work like one for interfacing to Arduino, etc.

Funny, I actually have. I work in a computer repair/data recovery shop and we have a phone in with a broken screen/lcd. Long story short is that the device did not work with the phone we got it for, nor my phone (Galaxy S5), and I know my MHL works on my phone but we needed KB/Mouse support as well.
It may have been a bunk device and we haven't requested a replacement yet, so If you try it out let me know if yours works, and when we get our replacement i'll let you know.

Unfortunately I don't think so, I used this:
http://www.ebay.de/itm/Lindy-73391-...6?pt=DE_Computer_Sonstige&hash=item462bc81bb0
with a s4, and it worked prperly, but when connected to s5 it doesn't even turns on. I think it is because s5 doesn't have a docking mode, in fact if you go in Settings-->accessories, there is only an option for sound on hdmi, while in s4 there were more (and one was for the docking mode)
I couldn't find anything that worked reliably and consistently. So I use the MHL for HDMI output and use a Bluetooth Keyboard and mouse...

This is a good solution, but I'm wondering why, since 11 pin connectors usually can handle hdmi and usb otg on the same time, why old dock stations for 11 pin device don't work?
using micro 3.0 for MHL and OTG
i have a SM-G900P and if i make a OTG and MLH cable through usb 3.0 do you think i could charge and use HDMI and 2 usb for keyboard and mouse. My goal is to make my phone like a mini computer on the go for my roms and movies
Possibly use the USB 3.0 Micro-b connection?
All my googling on this matter with the S5 seems to lead to one inevitable conclusion, the S5 won't allow for simultaneous MHL and OTG use, because the S5 uses the 5pin connector and not the 11pin connector (as the S4 seemed to). What I don't understand is, isn't the S5 using USB 3.0 instead of the USB 2.0 as on the S4? How could the S5 allow for faster data transfer rates and yet not be able to transfer more types of data at once?
Isn't there a way to utilize the entire USB 3.0 micro-b format (which apparently has 10 pins, 5 for backwards compatibility with USB 2.0 (except 5pin, and not 11pin), and 5 extra for USB 3.0 speeds) to use MHL and OTG and charging simultaneously?

I'm having an issue with MHL adapter on my S5, When I connect my MHL adapter to my S5, the audio on my TV seems delayed, but when I tried it on my S3, the audio is perfectly fine. Is this something to do with S5 having 5 pin only wherein S3 having 11pin?
I saw a 5 pin to 11 pin converter on Amazon, will this solve this issue? And possibly the issue of not being able to use MHL/HDMI and USB at the same time?
buy chrome cast you can screen mirror or use almost any app directly to the tv when it comes to videos and such theres a little allshare
button at the top of like the video player, you tube etc.
also a smart tv does the same thing only better (all the above scenarios will only work with a connected network)
what is wrong with the image quality?
Chromecast works for me at home or anywhere it has standard wifi, but is too painful in most hotels that use a web user login. Without net access it was almost useless last time I tried. I could pair with it, but it wouldn't stream local files from my device. Most places I've stayed in the last few years have an active HDMI port on their tv, so the MHL HDMI and OTG with USB wireless mouse on an S3 worked for me, even though I couldn't charge at the same time. Haven't been able to make that work so far with anything I've tried on the S5.
Still no luck with S5 docking (MHL+OTG)
Hello!
I've been using this adapter for a while with a Samsung Galaxy S4:
http://www.aliexpress.com/item/MHL-...or-Samsung-Galaxy-S3-S4-Note/32461052976.html
Charging, HDMI connection and USB keyboard + mouse works very nice.
Unfortunately no luck with S5. Not even charging works. I read S5 doesn't use 11-pin USB (because of the USB 3.0 plug, etc...). If that's true, then not even installing a custom ROM would make the docking work.
According to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=57336973&postcount=4, "the G800F is capable of USB OTG. It simply is not enabled in the stock firmware." I know this is about a S5 Mini, but wouldn't it be the same for the S5?

[Q] Working USB OTG cable?

I've now purchased THREE USB OTG straight cables (not Y) that did not work with my Shield Tablet... Is there some sort of trick i don't know about? Some special kind of OTG cable i need to buy? Some setting i need to enable for it to work?
I've tested the cables both with usb keyboard, mouse and various properly formatted USB drives - none detected at all. They dont work either with my Nexus 4 phone or Nexus 7 2012 tablet (but i suspect those models dont even support USB OTG, so doesnt say much).
Can anyone point me to a straight USB OTG cable that actually works with the tablet?
Are you running the latest OTA , Android 5.1? The OTG is broken in this version. Try plugging in the cable while tablet powered off the booting up. You won't be able to charge tablet until reboot though.
