I used this app GPS status on my mytouch 4g to fix it. Give it a shot.

Yep, rebooting, non fast boot did the trick. That was really strange. Thanks.

Never had problems with my GPS, so far so good. It's been finding my locations pretty quick.

Out of the box mine wouldn't see any sats in any of the GPS apps. The GPS antenna icon wouldn't even show up in the notification bar. Yes, GPS was on, but it was dead. Reboot did nothing.
Ended up doing a shutdown, removing battery, and when it booted up everything worked normally. GPS has worked very well since, quick locks and very accurate map location.

Yes, have had as well.
I've had flaky GPS as well. Sometimes fast lock, sometimes 15-second lock, sometimes full shutdown and pull the battery.
I used that GPS check applet (their is a free and paid version). It seemed to help confirm issues, since Maps and such just show that little sat dish at the top.
Seems like it may need a little FW fine-tuning or something.

As I said use GPS status clear your GPS chase then select your region of the world again and you will get fast connection to satellites. The app has a built in compass and you will be able to test

I've had to do most of the above including battery removal, full power-downs, etc.
I use GPS test and it takes a while but I get up to 10 or so satellites with accuracy to as little as 2-3 meters.
Switching amongst multiple apps like Latitude, Maps, GPS test, etc. seem to take the heaviest toll on the ability of the unit to quickly lock on when I launch the next app.
I can "death grip" it as well and kill the Wi-Fi, cellular radio, and GPS antenna, FWIW.

I had an instance of GPS Test (the Mike Lockwood version) not locking yesterday. In the Settings on that app you can Clear Aiding Data. I turned off GPS, did the clear, turned GPS back on, and it locked within 10 seconds. But for the most part the GPS on the Sensation has worked very well.

GPS Status lets you force an update of the "almanac" data, which sort of assists the GPS in figuring out where it's at when it cold starts. The GPS satellites aren't always in the same spot, so the almanac tell the unit where to look for them at any particular data/time.
GPS on my Thunderbolt has been 100% accurate the few times I use it; but I have wifi and vzw positioning enabled, so maybe I'm getting a bit of GPS assist from those.
GPS status will also let you see exactly where the satellites are and how many you're unit is locking on to.

Really slow GPS lock

I'm running stock and my GPS is incredibly slow. Using GPS Fix can never get a fix within 15 minutes. Any ideas? Should I just return the phone? I bought it at a tmobile store over a month ago. Would they even accept returns this far out?
You only have 14days to return but I would go plead a case how your not satisfied with the product

30 days in California.
I'm having this problem too. Nothing seems to fix it!! arghhhhhhhhh
I think installing a Gingerbread build breaks the GPS.

That's when my problems started.
Hopefully the official GB update provides some fixed GPS drivers.
I noticed that it goes back and forth for me. Sometimes it locks right away, other times I have to close and reopen slash turn off and on GPS. Do remember though there are always areas that are hard for any GPS to fix a location on. I know some of them here in the twin cities.

That's what I thought...at first.
But I have 2 G2xs. One that has never been flashed, and one that was flashed to CM7 and back to stock.
Never been flashed picks up GPS everywhere, indoors, outdoors in under 5 seconds. It's perfect.
Flashed one hardly works. Sometimes never gets any GPS satellites. Other times it gets them but never locks, even with 9 or more satellites in view. Before flashing, it worked fine.

Gps problem

Just got the phone today. It's awesome absolutely love love it. The only problem that I have is with the gps. I've done a little test and first of all it took him ages to find the signal and even after the accuracy of it was hit and miss. Back at home I've done another test with"gps test" app vs my htc desire. Sensation found faster more satelites but didn't lock in as fast as desire. After it knew where it was the accuracy was up improving from 184ft to 48 within 20 sec and was extremely unstable. On desire it was 36 ft and was all the same all the time. Is that normal or is it faulty unit?

Restart your phone and if that doesnt work do a hard reset, and if that doesn't work have it replaced

Tried. Didn't help. Sending back my sensation and sticking with my desire. Not worth paying 550 euro for it?

go to settings>power>turn off power saver.... if that is on and your battery is under 70% it will make your gps suck!
Experiencing same problems.
T-Mo, phone made on 4th of June. I feel like the newer is the phone the worse are the components.
Try this:
Get the Chartcross GPS Test app. Turn off GPS, start the app, go to Settings, at the top click on Clear AGPS, then Update AGPS. Turn on GPS. It may take a bit longer than normal to get a lock the first time, but should work fine after that. Repeat if you find locks taking abnormally long. Sometimes the ephemeris data stored on the phone can become corrupt. Clearing and updating can fix that problem.
Test outside with clear sky view for most consistent results. Also, when comparing GPS accuracy between different models of phones don't rely on the reported numbers in GPS Test apps, use the actual location on the map. My Sensation locates me on Google Maps very accurately.
*KNOCKS ON WOOD* My GPS is heavensent compared to my Vibrant and guided navigation is amazing *KNOCKS ON WOOD*
I have exactly the same issue on my sensation. I do a lot of running with micoach and during the workout the signal is often weak and my location jitters all over the map.

Definition of GPS lock

What do you guys mean by GPS lock? Simply showing where you ate on maps? Or the time it takes navigation to start giving you direction s? My GPS will find me on maps almost instantly however....it takes it almost twenty minutes sometimes to start giving me directions
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
I think it might be how long it takes your GPS to lock into your current location. I don't know if its CM7 or what but my gps is always off by like a mile.

It's how long the phone says "Searching for GPS". Sometimes it takes a while.

Does Android manage the GPS automatically?

I've noticed that when I exit my maps app, or any location aware app for that matter, the GPS symbol in my status bar goes away.
This is coupled with the fact that I recently got a secondary battery and haven't cared about battery drain, so I'm leaving everything (syncing, GPS, and WiFi) on and haven't noticed any extra battery drain this past week and a half.
So does Android regulate the GPS automatically, allowing us to just leave it on for faster location based services?

Yes. Apps themselves will use it if its on. If no apps need it then it stays on but not running. It only uses power when you see the icon.
