Every now and then i get a notification about a free gift card from wal mart... No its not an email notification or from any app.. If I click on it, it takes me to a web site to apply.. Is there any way I can get rid of this?
Sent from my SGH-I897 using XDA App
Is it a text message? You had to have given Wal-Mart your cell phone info at some point. Only way to stop it is to change your marketing preferences at Wal-Mart.com and turn off any notifications in the preferences. It has nothing to do with the phone.
Its not a text. It just randomly pops up in the notification bar. If I click
On it, it takes me to a web site to sign up.

Uhm, text notifications show up in the bar. If the text includes a link it would also be in there. You might want to read up on the workings of your phone a little more.
Take a screenshot next time.

This is what it looks like. My phone doesn't even vibrate or make a sound. I just turn on the screen and this notification is there... It comes up every day, once or twice a day.

repost pic, can't read.
its probably some app you have installed. try to find it an uninstall.
^^
Looks like an Airpush ad (or similar) - they go to the notification bar.

Ya seems like airpush, use this app to figure out which one it is https://market.android.com/details?id=com.brosmike.airpushdetector&feature=search_result
Idk why the screen shot comes out like that. I just repost it twice now and it looks the same. And I'll give airpush a try. Thanks
Edit: you were right. It was an app I had that lets see south park. It solved the issue. Thanks guys
I used the manual opt out to permanently remove airpush.
Apparently you can still keep the app. I'll test it out... so far so good.
Here: http://www.airpush.com/imei
Edit: I just put my IMEI and hit submit.

are you talking about an actual window that pops up or just the notification icon in the top left?
A window. Like the handcent one but. Looks different. It shows the message then two buttons underneath. Reply and dismiss.

What Rom are you using
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
I have had that before on my phone. It was quite a while back and I "think" it was part of another application I had downloaded but I don't remember which one... maybe back track what you have downloaded and uninstall til you find it. Worth a shot...
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
This looks like the pop-up you get when you are on the phone talking and get another call and is giving you the option to send a txt to the caller. The option is there in the stock ROM which I am sure is carried over to custom ROM's.
I have never seen this pop-up but others have. If you have a custom dialer that may be why.
go into Settings > Call > Phone settings (or similar for a custom dialer)
I believe this is a setting within the MIUI rom... I could be wrong though.
I'm a developer who distributes free and paid apps on the Play Store, and have recently been seeing accusations that my apps use notification bar advertising.
MY APPS DO NOT USE THIS TRASH AND NEVER WILL.
I actually have avoided advertising altogether, (I'm using the free-lite-version/paid-full-version model).
I want to put some apps on a test phone that actually do use notification bar ads to determine if this is simply random chance or if perhaps these apps are doing more nefarious things like waiting for other APKs to be installed before pushing ads, or waiting until other app-processes are in the foreground before pushing ads. This may be difficult as I believe the push rate is fairly infrequent.
My wild guess is that these apps aren't that evasive, though their design is still to disassociate the advertising from the app that is its source. I imagine they simply delay a week or more before firing the first ad, and probably only do so if the device is asleep.

Edit: if you do know of any apps that do this, please post links here (on the Play Store or off). I have no idea what apps actually do this, and so far haven't run into any myself.
Thanks for your dedication. I will follow this thread and try to spread the word.
On my Samsung I long press the notification and i can see the app info of the app that actually sent the notification, maybe you can use this to know which apps are messing with yours

Thanks, but I actually don't have any such apps on my devices at this time...this is all coming from user reviews, so I don't actually know which other apps they have installed that might be firing the push ads.
http://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/mjva1/list_of_known_airpush_enabled_infested_apps/)
BTW, I personally have a Tasker profile I enable/disable on need. It just logs all notifications with the notification's title and app, allowing me to detect airpush apps.
EDI: I remember some game kept sending chinese ads to my notification bar, and if I remember correctly, I had it for quite some time before it started doing so.. and it only started doing so after I installed another app. I'm not entirely certain about it as it happened a few months back, but now that you mention it, it might have been the same scenario.

Hi there. Recently, ads that look like the image above have been popping up insistently on my phone. Every single time i pick it up after an interval, the ad pops up and takes up the whole screen, unless i click "no, thanks" or "Back" or "Home" it won't go away.
I'm getting very frustrated and i have uninstalled about 90% of my apps. I installed cleanmaster to clean my system cache to get rid of any unwanted files and i run it all the time. I've also tried all the ad blockers/detectors on the play store but they cannot detect any sign of malicious software.
Any advice? I would really hate to do a factory reset but i would like to know the cause of the problem, if it's an app. What's the point of having an android if i can't install any apps?!
Any ideas on how i can get to the root of the problem? It's frustrating as f***.
what happens if you press the recents button? does it show any app or just not respond?

It opens a webpage. One of those annoying "contest" websites where you are asked to do quizzes or enter your number to win a prize.

Hum... It's on your side, not Android... You obviously downloaded something...
It's an app for sure, but we cant help you unless you show us the list of your remaining apps.
When you find it, just uninstall it. No need to clear cash or anything, it wont make a difference anyway. And if you got it from google play, you should report it since it is against their guidelines. https://support.google.com/googleplay/answer/2479847?hl=en
If it is not from the play store e.g. some pirate app, I dont feel sorry for you... If it's a legitimate app from outside the playstore you should raise your concern with the developer.
FingerSecurity is a security app for Samsung devices with a fingerprint reader. The app will protect apps of your choice with your fingerprint.

Hi. I got one other report about this. I am not sure if the person was using a Note 5 :$. Could you contact me via email? You can find my email address on the about page in FingerSecurity or on the Play Store page

Hi Rick,
Really digging this app. There is one minor annoying thing that is happening. When I turn on my screen the application looks to jump to the top of the notification list. When it does that it moves everything down, which causes a bit of shutter on my lock screen.
Have you heard of this? Also, PM if you want a video for this great application.

The little AT&T thing shows up on the left side of my status bar and blocks my notifications. I've looked everywhere. Anyone know to get rid of this?

You can try this app from Samsung, Good lock using Galaxy Store.
Use Quick panels and it will let you customize it. Posted what it offers. There's more you can also do with Good lock.

Carrier branding is so stupid — like we don't know what carrier we have. I'm on Verizon and finally this year decided to get my device directly from Samsung because I was tired of seeing Verizon's stupid boot screen and other little addons.
