Email from HTC - HTC Desire S

Hi
I contaccted HTC today to see there stance on the locked bootloader and this was there reply, I hope they see it through.
"Thank you for contacting HTC regarding your Desire S.
We are currently developing new bootloader unlocked software for your phone. HTC is still committed to allowing our customers to unlock the bootloaders if they wish, however we are still implementing the policy and many updates were already finalized prior to our change in policy. We apologize for the inconvenience, but be assured that we are working on a solution for our customers and our commitment has not changed. Please stay tuned to our official channels for ongoing updates on how we will be implementing this policy. Thank you for your patience".

Thanks for the update, but, unfortunately the same information has already been posted multiple times in several threads over the last few weeks and ultimately provides no updates....so is worthless.....the only thing not worthless is action or possibly public release of AlphaRex software

it was to me. Thanks for the update Good to know this is today still their official response.

Ok, sorry for that was just trying to be helpfull. To be honest there is no guarantee that AlphaRex will be released for the Desire S so it's good to know that HTC might provide another option.

ofc there is, you watched the threads here? they already said alpharevx will be on ds too

Well guys, i sure alpharevx would work one day on desire s.. but we all know that having an official update would be better
Anyways i dont care wich one of them.. I cant wait!

man you re awesome
thanks

Thanks for the info, its good to hear the official position.
Well posted.

New To The Magic and Need Some Advice

I am a rogers customer, and just wanted to know if HTC is going to officially release the "HERO" rom for the magic. In the current build i hear people have problems with 3G, WIFI and BT working. If i Unroot my phone is it good forever? Sorry i just dont understand the android stuff...lol
Well the Hero and Magic practically have the same hardware, so there should not be any technical hurdles to jump over. I think I read something a week stating that HTC will give Rogers customers the Hero update...

Well, using my inside source named "Google", I was able to procure some information. Basically at this point all that I have read (and someone please correct me if I'm wrong) is that HTC has "reportedly" made the comment that Sense UI "will be available on some other existing devices," which to me is about as vague as possible considering the many configurations of current Android devices. As for your other questions, I don't know, I am but a humble noob to Android myself, but one piece of advice, try to avoid starting a new thread each time you have a question. You have a better chance of getting answers if people don't have to search through multiple threads. That being said, good luck with your Magic, I get mine on Friday and I'm stoked!

Sensation is Here!!

We need to get these Bootloaders Unlocked & start Rooting these babies now. I just picked mine up @ T-Mobile and checked Bootloader, it is Ship S-ON. Tried going into Recovery and it gave me that dirty Triangle with Exclamation Point.
Lets get this Party Started Everone!! DEVS PLEASE HELP
I'm with you, hope to see some work get done in this device! I just ordered mine by phone and very excited to get it .

Is there any more info on the Sensation already being rooted? I'm not seeing anything on the Development section about it already being rooted.

This guy is an AHOLE. I wonder how he really is in real life. Probably one of those people who is extremely anti-social except when he's online and act like a bully.

LOL we all want what he wants.... more USEFUL threads less dumbass, pointless and annoying threads. A simple search would of showed the OP that there are threads SIMILAR to this one and he shouldn't of started this mess!!!! Now we have pages and pages of pointless threads in this forum so actually the link to that video is totally necessary
Quit trolling. OP was simply excited about his purchase.
While I agree with ya'll that these threads need to stop, that isn't a reason for you all to troll each other.

The WILDFIRE S & CHACHA S-ON ordeal

I've posted a campaign in the wildfire S forum as many of you may have seen on the portal last week. I'm making a thread here to gather some more views on the whole thing and hopefully gather some more info. We need to join forces.
Some questions to the chacha forum members:
1. How close have any devs come to unlocking the chacha?
2. Is camera the only problem left on your CM7?
3. Has anyone tried the HTCdev method even though it's not listed?
Both of these phones are 2011 models! And now they are relegated to the legacy/low activity section of XDA just because of this stupid S-ON situation, can you believe it?
What's going on, what do you think about it?
Im proper disappointed with htc and blame them completely for the lack of development for our devices.
I think this will be the last htc i purchase.
Htc say they listen, well maybe they need to clean their damn ears out cause they obviously can't hear us.
Maybe we haven't spent enough money on a more premium device and they think we don't deserve an unlocked device for that reason alone (GREEDY).
well did they not stop to think maybe these phones were some users first experience of htc and android and that because of the whole locked bootloader fiasco many users feel let down and will move to a different manufacturer.
If i bought a new car (just as an example), would it be ok for the manufacturer to limit the speed when in fact i paid good money and should be able to run it with no restrictions, cause if im not mistaken it now belongs to ME!
my property, let me do what the hell i want with it!!!
1. No where near I think... the closest thing we have is a temproot via ramdisk - only S-OFF we can get is by the XTC Clip.
2. According to our CM7 thread here, we still have slight problems with Wi-Fi, and camera doesn't work at all.
3. I've tried the HTCDev method, but when I type fastboot oem get_identifier_token, I get a command error.
Unfortunately HTC is still not dev friendly as they are suggesting. Currently the major problem we are having with the CM build is the camera, whilst the Wi-Fi issue can be considered minor (since the major problem is the inability to connect to hidden networks).
I'm as disappointed as everyone else, member of the Wildfire S or ChaCha community, that our devices dropped into the legacy section, considering the amount of time and work I've spent here, trying to help as many users as possible.
Wow, HTC really have let us down haven't they? The problem I see is, that as soon as we find a soft method to achieve S-OFF, one or both forums will likely pop back up to the main XDA board.
Our CM7 bugs sound identical to yours. We managed to fix camera with the help of an official CM dev, you probably can check our CM7 thread to find a fix. We also have minor wifi issues.

[Q] Any work being done for the People on 3.18 with S-locked

Hey all, I came from Samsung Skyrocket- just switched to HTC One X ... and I immediately looked for the JB 4.1.1. I downloaded and installed it. I'm not new to rooting, but did not take the time to read up on the version. The same day I upgraded I quickly found out that it was a big mistake. I was just wondering is there anyone out there working on a root for AT&T 3.18. I read a lot of posts and some speculate there are people somewhere but does anyone know for certain. I love all you Devs on XDA and your dedication. Thanks for reading
I'm sure someone is working on it. There just isn't a thinkthank thread. You should go make one!

Well, being that the official JB was released just a few days ago, I doubt it. Just like when a brand new iOS comes to an apple device, it takes time to find the exploits and stuff. If you came from the skyrocket, I would imagine, you would have checked XDA first, before looking into any official sites. That's what I do. Just in case I don't lose my root. When it comes to rooting, you HAVE to take the time to read. Especially with the HTC, it's a multi-step process. With the bootloader unlocking, geting SuperCID, rooting, getting your adb/fastboot working. Just have to be patient. But it is all worth it. I am sure many of the other HTC users in this forum would agree.

3.18 started rolling out nearly a month ago (approx. March 7). And the OP is asking whether anyone is working on it, not whether an exploit has already been found. So the only way this would be answered conclusively, is if a dev (or devs) responded positively, that they are indeed actively working on it.

Thanks for the correction. Mis-read it using the app. And it has been that long? It felt like only a few days about the JB update. I would imagine, some devs may be working on it, but as you said, no one knows for sure until a dev responds.

Yup, its been at least that long. This thread was posted on March 7, but the first reports of it rolling out starting getting posted on March 6, if I remember correctly.
The RUU was posted later on, maybe 2 weeks ago, or a little less.

Ah, then that is probably what I am referring to. Anywho, I would imagine a dev would post here first (the forum, not this thread), as these forums are pretty darn popular. But, it never hurts to Google.
Thank for the information fellas... I should have been a little more patient and a little less gung-ho. I was really shooting for someone to say..."I'm working on that right now" but that's ok. I'll just have to wait like the rest of the hundreds if not thousands that were like me. This update is a little jumpy... meaning it freezes up from time to time and reboots every now and then. Not all that smooth because of the bloatware I imagine...Thanks again for the reply's

You generally almost never see those kinds of posts unless the dev has at least an alpha working or needs testers. The reason being, obviously, is because the moment anyone gets identified as working on the exploit, they get bombarded with nonstop "Are we there yet" posts and PMs.

Very true. And I'm guessing they probably don't want to get hopes up about something that might not even happen.
Devs often don't say anything unless they think they have it. Some of the exploits for our device have come practically out of nowhere. I remember the original bootloader unlock method (CID spoof), the dev just came on here and posted the method, and was like "sh1t, I didn't even know there was a bounty, thanks for the money!" lol

Yeah that's understandable, you are correct. I remember when I rooted my skyrocket people were always after the devs...time? How far along messages would popup everywhere. As you can see I've been a member since I got my skyrocket and have never posted once. I always found everything by reading everything. I got use to the speed of my Skyrocket, now I have this HOX as it is referred to here. With the stock it's pretty close to the speed of the skyrocket. But, I know it can be a lot faster with the root and less bloatware. Thanks again guys for the reply's

Free htc u11 to a dev for testing purposes

This post is really for a Dev who contributes to this great forum. I am very grateful for the time/money involved providing free tutorials, apps, etc that improves my phone immensely. For that reason I wanted to give back in a meaningful way. Now I have the chance. Recently I purchased a HTC u11 that I do not want. My heart is attached to m9- so I bought another. The u11 is free to anyone that needs it for the good of the community. It is brand new, unlocked, gsm phone with charger and headphone. I just need to know where to send it?

Thanks for being the first to inquire about the phone. Honestly I was wondering if I might need to keep it for the lack of interest. I responded to your question via private message.
thank you!
And my advise is you must post this somewhere else, because:
Any active developer here already has a U11, so they probably dont want 1 more.
Any other developer (dont have U11) would never come here in this sub-forum.
That's why .

Hi, I know the development of the Venom ROM has been slow lately and one of the reasons is the current Viper ROM dev does not have a U11 anymore available for testing, he would be glad to continue development if he had a device he could test on it himself before releasing unfinished development to the community you can contact him directly if you want hi username is @mikalovtch, please consider talk to him if you haven't decided yet to who send the device. thanks in advance!! Also as another option you could become a tester for him with the device yourself if you want to do that.

I second that. As a former Team Venom Beta member I am still happily using Viper on my U11 and I am not intending to give up that phone anytime soon. However, should HTC get their act together and really release a "Working" and hopefully "bugfree" Android 9 ROM, we will need our developer to port the current Viper over to the new Android 9 base. So, I suppose Jean has talked to our developer already (I'm not in touch anymore) and if he really signaled a "yes" to yet another port, I would be more than happy to know he has a phone to work on. Thank you for providing this excellent opportunity.
I was lucky enough to receive a device from a like minded person back in the HTC M8 days, for my firmware testing stuff (which always had a high bricking risk attached to it) and I can only say, such donations enable a ton of work being done here. That is really quite something. Thank you.
