I am playing AVI files via a couple different players and experiencing the same issue - after an indeterminate (but short) period of time, the audio drops out and the video continues. I have tried Mobo, Meridien, QQ, and the player that launches from Astro. I am not sure what Htc app to use (if any-they seem designed for music or their video store) or if anyone else has seen this problem. The AVIs played fine on a vibrant, so I suspect it's not the files. However, YouTube works fine, so I am at a loss for what to do next. Any thoughts?

Thought it was just me!
Yeah, I am on my second device and still within my 14 day return time frame and have had the same problem on both. I was unsure if it was a glitch in the phone itself at first so I had it replaced in-store, but now I think it may be due to the Sense 3.0 UI. I have until next Friday to decide if I want to keep it and unless HTC opts to unlock the Bootloader, I think it will get returned!
This topic appears on HTCs forum and was created by a different user. It looks like it is affecting some users, now I am curious whether it is widespread or a fluke.

AVI sound issue
Hi, Im on a UK Vodafone branded sensation and am getting this problem. Ive tried the following players:
V Player
Stock
ES Strongs player
Rockplayer
And the audio seems to drop after 30-50 seconds, was playing a 800Mb ish AVI of the hangover. Video carries on and audio returns if I move the time slider, have played .mp4 files with no problems.
dice player
i have same issue - try DICE PLAYER, its working for me
This happens around 1:38 into an AVI file, it seems to only happen if you are using the hardware (or system) decoder, if you use a player that has software decoder available then there is no problem. I use QQplayer and let it do QQplayer decoder or auto in the settings and AVI plays fine. This does chew up extra battery though so I have just been converting files to MP4 using Handbrake LOL
Try Diceplayer.
Dice is the best player for Sensation.
Diceplayer can play 720p H.264 + DTS/OGG/FLAC MKV file.
longer battery life.

How is the Video playback on our Sensation?
I'm currently at Android Revolution HD Rom.
And I can run some 720P 600MB MKV BDRIPs
But when I tried a 1.5GB 720P MP4 File it won't work and the phone seems lags/freezes. Black screen no sound
Btw I'm using Mobo Player
Anyone can recommened a better player?
I just want to test the power of Sensation plus the large screen with qHD Resolution is really a great treat.
Diceplayer is the best

i made a thread about this a few days ago. I hate to keep comparing this phone to my hd2, but this one does not handle simple processes fluidly like that one did. the hd2, once you had the right player, handled all codecs properly and it did not matter how big the file was. I played a 2 gig Watchmen .avi movie and had NO hiccups. I have gone through 5 players to try and find the one that will handle movies smoothly. None works as it should. I did not have to convert movies either. This is really irritating me.
Try arcmedia. It's the only player that won't cut off sound when I watch a movie for nor than 5 minutes. Ive tried 11-12 players and this is the only one that worked.
Hope it helps

i am using DicePlayer 1.1.3. It is hardware accelerated and I can play 720p TVShow mkv (1,09GB each) flawlessly. 720p and 1080p mp4 can play in default media player app. I have even tried 1080p mkv, file was source.code.2011.BluRay.1080p.DTS.x264-CHD DicePlayer handled it wery well without any lag and video & DTS audio in sync all the way.
I dont know if I am allowed to attach apk's, if I am I will attach the file later...
HW Acceleration don't work. Using Dice Player 1.1.4, Just blackscreen but the seek is still counting, with no sound. With Software Acceleration tried it on MoboPlayer. It got video but the sound is ugly fcked up
newset diceplayer version is v1.5.2
try diceplayer trial version.
I bought vplayer at first, but because it only used SW rendering the quality was far from great. Then I bought Dice player, as it supported HW acceleration. I've had my share of problems with it, but it was definitely worth it. Updates almost daily removed the crash after 5 minutes, improved the interface, added better subtitle support. I don't understand, why people mention the version 1.1.4, which is quite old. If you base your decision on such an old version you're making a mistake. There's really a huge difference since then and the program is updated very often.
Picture quality is just awesome and I managed to play everything so far. Didn't try HD yet, as I only have limited card space.
so its not just me....
From looking at all the responses it appears that some of us are having a problem with the way the Sensation is handling video playback. I have already paid for apps that worked on a lesser phone. This is a real concern to me.
So I have an issue where I play a movie off my phone and within like 30 seconds ~ 1 min, the audio dies and the way to fix is to scroll to another part of the movie and it plays again for 30 seconds ~ 1 min. I have a mix of avi mp4 movies. Anyone else have this issue?? Thank you in advance!
It's an issue that several people have, including me. I also have some AVI's that the audio gets very distorted on, but don't cut out.
It has to do with the CODECs I believe, as other types of files will play perfectly well.

That kinda makes sense....thanks for the reply....wonder if someone knows what we are supposed to re-encode the movies at.
Did you tried vplayer, I am using it and never had problems like this.

I installed MX Video Player from the market, and it still goes silent. Then I went into MX Video Player's options and changed it from Hardware Decoding to Software decoding, and now I can play ones that would fail every time within a minute.
Give it a try.
Hey guys,
Trying to setup my GFs phone with some media to watch while at the gym, and I can get everything on there fine and use different players to watch it, but I noticed no matter the player there's a significant frame drop/stuttering in the playback, especially when compared to my S2.
Anybody else notice any choppiness when playing back media? Only tested with divx TV shows downloaded from the web (playback from phones camera seems to be fine.)
Thoughts?
Hrmmm. Not sure. I use MX video player for playback and have been happy. This is mostly for flash video and camcorder on phone, but I haven't tried any divx. For the most part everything is fairly smooth.

I use handbrake to knock mine down to the proper size and have zero issues, I also use mine on the treadmill. Beats the heck out of the TV. I use realplayer
I use mx video player too. It works great but sometimes the video freezes and you have to hit back and select the video again. But that's only on software decoding.
If you convert the video to MPEG you can use h/w decoding which fixes that and seems to make the battery last longer.

MoboPlayer works great for me.
Mx player is great, set to sw fast decode and it run very smooth. It support subtitle, interface is nice and easy to use.

I got my tf300 yesterday and it great except for one thing. I get no sound when i play my mkv 720 movies or series? I have tried both streaming and local. Tried diceplayer, the built in player and moboplayer without success. MX player worked when i turned of h/w and used s/w instead but then the movies "lagged". Cant get it to work, Anyone have a clue what i can do to make it work?

MX will play them via HW but you need to click the sound key next to the HW/SW button and select the other audio track. Worked for me.
Ah, that works, Thanks. Anyone get any other player to work?
I have had good results using BS player lite. And it is cool because you can change brightness by swiping up and down in the left side of the screen and change volume the same way on the right

DO NOT DOWNLOAD VLC PLAYER FOR ANDROID!
VLC is still in development, and apks have not been released. If you find a VLC apk, it is not real or it is based on very early, probably buggy code. One person that mentioned having it said that s/he had very intrusive ads. Judging by all other VLC releases on every other platform, the real VLC for Android will not have ads, or at least not obnoxious, intrusive ads.
Diceplayer plays 1080p nicely, as long as you don't got dual audio.
Glad to hear MX player can handle different audiostreams! Now i can get my anime on!
I'll guess i will use MX or bsplayer then. I just find it a bit odd that the same files plays with no problem on my galaxy S2 with dice player..

SOLUTION!!!!
Absolute EASIEST SOLUTION!!!!!
Im running serviio from my pc and typically steam to my samsung tv's
But the easiest solution to stream directly to my s3 (i747 aokp task650)
Is:
Download and install these two apps
1.Bubble upnp https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bubblesoft.android.bubbleupnp
2. Joe VLC https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=the.joevlc
Ive used mx and bs in the past, but this solution is just too easy and fast...
P. S. Ive streamed everything from small avi family guy episodes to 15gb mkv bluray files and this setup is boss..
Only issues i found was minute pixelation when in full screen mode on large files 12gb+ and some buffering when i jump around in said video but other than that its awesome.....
Enabling hw decoding in JoeVlc app takes care of any pixel issues but eats battery...
Happy streaming!
got it
yo
just do to ( in the MX player) Settting -> Decoder--> download custom codec
than u will be direct to a website .. just follow the instraction
worked perfect for me..
thank u it works good
VLC media player has been officialy released some time ago works great with .mkv

I've come from a lot of Samsung devices, and I decided to jump that boat as soon as I was no longer able to install CM on the Note III.
I have a Samba/FTP server, and I like to stream videos from Samba to my phone, like all the time, like 90% of the videos are h.264 mkv. I used DicePlayer on my Note III to stream, and it was pretty awesome. When I tried this on my OPO, it wouldn't work, presumably because the OPO doesn't have the proper codecs, so I went to the settings in Diceplayer and changed the setting for mkv to play under "software player" instead of default; This worked, but I only got like 2 FPS, literally. So I rolled my eyes and went and got VLC. VLC can't open network folders, so I had to use some other obnoxious app to open the files. This works, but its so crappy compared to Diceplayer, it skips/stops every minute or so.
I am wondering if anyone knows any way that I can get it all working with Diceplayer, or if there is a better app that I can use that works just as well. I don't know much about this kind of stuff, but it seems to me that the OPO doesn't have the proper codecs, and Diceplayer doesn't work well enough with the phone that it can make up for lack of said codecs.
Try using MX player. It runs everything and can use hardware and software codecs. It can also stream from a network though I have never used that feature.

I think I tried that one on my Note, it works, but its buggy, and to stream you have to open it via url which is annoying. But I will try it.
Hi, how it works?
I have problem with playing 720p .mkv movies (for example The.Flash.2014.S01E06.720p.HDTV.X265.mkv ).
It plays video slower than audio ( there is one second of audio freeze every five seconds). I have tried to install additional codecs, but it didn't help. It plays on SW decoder, HW/HW+ shows only error and switch to SW.
Also try to install VLC player, but it didn't work too.
480p mkv files are played ok, even via WiFi.
OPO and MX player are actual, phone isn't rooted.
Thanks for any advice
Install the necessary codecs. http://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/mx-player/mx-player-custom-codec-dts-support-t2156254
That should fix any codec issues.
