[Q] News/RSS Widgets

I am looking for a full screen news/rss widget. I have searched google and xda and nothing.
Any suggestions is much appreciated.

you can try Instant news for google. i havnt tried it myself, but it seems to have what youre looking for. or you can search the Market or Androlib.com for whatever you want

Just either use the default news widget if your using sense. You can add custom rss feeds etc and its full screen

Friend Stream painfully slow?

Haven't seen much written about this, so thought I'd throw it out there - for those using Sense, is your Friend Stream painfully slow when it comes to loading comments, posting comments, loading people's pages, etc? I love it for the widget and how easy it is to see twitter/FB posts on the home screen, but as for actually using it interactively (pretty much anything beyond just reading posts), it takes FOREVER and drives me crazy.
I'm still running stock, so maybe it runs better on rooted Friend Stream? Idk, I'm just perplexed by why it's so slow since most everything else is blazing fast. Every time I try to comment on a post through Friend Stream it makes me want to just use the FB app or the mobile site. Anyone else?

I use LauncherPro Plus and the "Friends" Widget, which works great.
Occasionally, if there is any issue with it not refreshing (which is not very often, but does happen) I just "restart" launcher pro and then trash and replace the widget. Always fixes it.
Maybe if your using Sense just trash the widget, force stop Sense, re-add widget?

Thanks for the reply, but the problem isn't that the widget doesn't refresh, it's that when I click on a post and then it takes me to the friend stream app, the APP is really slow. Takes like a minute or two for things to process. The widget has been updating regularly.

I'm on rooted stock rom and I feel your pain. Friendstream is horribly slow when you want to do anything other than read posts in the widget. I always end up using the FB app. Sucks, but I like the FS widget.

You just described exactly where I am with the whole thing. Love the widget, but have to use the FB app for interactive stuff. It's not a data thing b/c the dedicated FB app always refreshes and loads like *that* - but the friend stream app doing anything is...like...*thaaaaaaaattttt* (i.e. really slow). In a perfect world the widget and app would be one and the same, but oh well.

I'm having the same problem with mine friend stream app. The widget is fine but the app itself is dreadful!

Lol well at least it's nice to know that I'm not the only one. I guess that's why I started the thread, to make sure I didn't have a bad apple...well that and the hope that maybe someone would have a 'fix.' Oh well, I guess we just really have to treat is as ONLY a widget.

Does anyone have issues with Facebook no longer being an option to sync on the mytouch.
I have a black mytouch and I only have the option to sync Flickr and Twitter to my friendstream and I know for a fact that you could have Facebook because it worked on my white mytouch

You should definitely be able to stream FB through Friendstream. I only use it for FB and Twitter. Not sure why it wouldn't recognize it.

Facebook for HTC sense

Hey guys so I got the sensation and honestly I am loving this device. I have been on WiFi all day but haven't had a problem yet. I guess it is all about how u hold the phone.
Well I do have a slight problem which I need your help in. I can't seem to find the Facebook widget for HTC sense. I downloaded normal fb from market I can use that widget but don't see the sense widget. I see the Twitter for sense but not fb. Let me know what I can do.

I believe it's bundled into the "FriendStream" widget now.

yes indeed..the friendstream is indeed bundled with facebook/twiiter etc

I see. Well it threw me of because in my accounts it is showing Facebook htc n sync's my info but no widget by it self. Oh well.

you can always download the android native app and use that widget.. but we already know about the seni and 3rd party widgets,, grrr

Add friendstream widget to your home screen. Then press and hold it and move to "edit" area of the dock. From there you can choose which networks are synced in that particular widget. I have 2 friendstream widgets, 1 for twitter and 1 for facebook.... did not like them all mashed up in one widget.

In the directory, when I go to my contacts "Facebook", I have my contacts.
But when I go in my contacts "Facebook for HTC Sense", I have nothing.
As I had sync problems and I deleted my data, is the explanation?
My facebook account is set.
If I run a sync, I have an answer for Facebook for HTC Sense is not currently available

yeah i 2nd that bkuz i have noticed that on facebook on my htc S4g and even on the computer facebook.. weird

For me, the messages were not being updated in the FB app....now its working fine

I bet in the top right corner of the app it says "top news" and not "most recent" right?

nope....most recent shown in corner. Uninstall and reinstall app seems to fix but same issures 5 mins later. Logoff and login again fix, but next time still all mess of stuff....damn it HTC or FB?

[FIXED] Caller Photo fixed!! 2 method's!

Looks like it is fixed for me now, sense 3.5
Method 1
Sign in to FriendStream widget with facebook, it will ask you to sync, choose sync with all contacts.
Will take some time to refresh all, after you get clear contact pictures.

You sense 3.5 Rom? If so been looking for one and haven't had any luck. So I've reverted back to sense 3

What, I don't get what you are trying to say....it would be nice if you could elaborate?

Old news but congrats.. Basically he's saying that on order to get clearer contact photos you need to sync your phone with the friendstream app. The regular Facebook app syncs the photos with really low quality.

I think you need to go into Accounts & Sync in the phone settings and add specifically 'Facebook for HTC Sense,' then it should work.

You need to sign in to facebook using FriendStrem widget to enable it

Ok I signed into facebook of a fresh Rom install using friend stream widget ..
Still no facebook for HTC sense in accounts and sync and still blurry contact pictured... What am I doing wrong?
I click on friend stream widget, it comes up with accounts to sign into, I choose Facebook, Facebook for android comes up, then I sign in and it sais authorize Facebook for HTC sense but that pops up and disappears without me authorizing anything...is the same happening for you or can you authorize it?

This is really pissing me off now. How did you manage to get Facebook for HTC sense in accounts & sync? All I have is the ****ty fukin Facebook android, and yes I did sign in through friend stream

this just isnt working for me, could you please tell me what youve done step by step...theres no reason why it works for you and not for me i must be doing something wrong but i have no idea what

That would be the first sense 3.5 rom with explicit facebook for htc sense ... normally that fb for sense is integrated in fb app on 3.5

Same here...

"Facebook for Sense" on Sense 3.5 ROMs is integrated with Facebook, which is why you'll only see Facebook in the sync menu. Maybe an early Sense 3.5 ROM had Facebook for Sense added, but its not needed.
All my contact images are sharp when I sync using the Facebook app. I don't use Friendstream at all.

Well your a lucky Scotsman then, mine are blurry as hell, I can't use sense 3.5 roms because when someone calls me it makes me want to throw up.
To add on my post, surely there must be a way to unseperate them?

Ahhh....your're talking about when someone calls....yes, I think it's still blurry for me there too...in the contacts app they're clear.
It'sa little annoying, but not enough for me to go back to Sense 3.0 lol...

Yer I use the big people widget too and it just doesn't look nice. I was on sense 3.5 for like a day and its so much more polished then sense 3 I.wanna go back but apparently I have ocd about blurry pictures :/

And signin in to friendstream after?
After signing in to it, sense will ask yo to sync facebook with contacts, you choose sync all. And this will update contact pictures, atleast it did this for me an other peaple here

I tried this. Uninstalled Facebook app. But when I click on Facebook account in Friend Stream settings, nothign happens. There's no icon next to it either, so I think it needs facebook installed for it to work?
EDIT: Yep, I installed Facebook app again, and now I can sign into FB using Friend Stream.

Fb sync problem on AOSP/MIUI/CM

Hi I am having serious problem getting facebook news feed, calender and other updates on aosp/miui/cm based rom. In the option it shows that Contacts is being synced only. No option for news feed. I tried everything, reflashed rom with full wipe, gapps installation, settings etc etc. No luck at all. Help me out folks. Thanks in advance

Have you checked in the navigation bar area to see if you can sync the apps from there? It's likely sync is turned off. The sync widget looks like two arrows in a circle on my rom, and if I long press it I can control which apps are synced. You probably have something similar in your rom. Make sure the setting is turned on in sync. Hope this helps! Best wishes

I checked everything. Literally raped the rom looking for that settings. Only thing I found in sync option is Contacts. On sense based rom sync has Calender, News feed and Contacts. On aosp/miui/cn based rom there is only contacts.

If you are using Facebook for android than sync options are in the app itself, but in the general settings you only see contact sync settings

Unfortunately I dont see that option on fb app on any rom except Sense based rom. I have came to this point after flashing 10 different non sense based rom.
