[Q] Google Music won't Update? - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Has anyone had a problem where Google Music is listed in the Updates section of the Market, but won't update? A dialogue window flashes up and then disappears again.
I tried clearing the data, but it's made no difference.
I'm not located in the US if that changes things, but Google Music is still listed in the Market (and was installed by default anyhow).

You can always google "Music Beta 3.0.1 apk" and install it manually, you'll still be able to do market updates for it in the future. As to your fix, have you tried rebooting the device? It fixes install problems for me that way.

Thanks, I had to reinstall the app as adb install initially reported INSTALL_FAILED_ALREADY_EXISTS .
The following however worked, once I'd grabbed the apk file...in case anyone else has the issue in the future.
adb install -r com.google.android.music-2.apk

Couldnt find it in the market so I found a .apk file on here and installed it, but when I open the market it does not show that I even have it on my phone...so how will I be able to update it?

Stickies clearly state not to post Q&A in General:

[Q] Unable to install apps from Play Store

Hello,
Post rooting (repenting it already) my Samsung Galaxy S Plus (GTI9001), I am unable to install any apps via Play Store. I am able to install apk's from the SD Card though. I un-rooted the phone but problem persist.
When I try to install any app, I can see the app being downloaded on the notification but the moment the download completes nothing happens. When i go to Play Store > My Apps I could see that it still says downloading though the app is fully downloaded. I guess some permission issues here. Please help.
I have already cleared Play Store cache and tried.

Hello,
Which Rom do you use? Maybe you have to root it again. Usually you can fix permissions in CWM. Have you tried to restart after "Download is finished". For Me it was working on my Asus EeePad.

Chris, I am still on stock ROM and I am not likely to go for a custom ROM since there are not much good ROM's available for Samsung Galaxy S Plus and Yes I tried multiple reboots. After reboot, on the notification it says that app download failed due to some error with a number.
Thanks for your reply.
Same issue
Reyolin,
I have had the same problem on my Samsung Galaxy S Plus but it has only started today. Mine has been rooted for about 5 months now, since I first got it.
I did a search using EStrong File explorer and it found a file called "downloadfile.apk" in /cache (I assume this is the file as it is the same file size as stated in the Play store. However, when I tried to run or copy it it had disappeared.
It's almost like the APK is being downloaded and then being deleted before installation actually occurs.
I think rooting your phone and the inability to install apps is just coincidental.
I will do some more playing about and see what I can find (I also already tried removing the Google Play updates (to go back to the old style Market). This still did not solve the problem.

Exactly same proble
Hi,
I have exaclty the same problem (galaxy s plus), rooted 5 month ago and problem started 2 days ago...
I updated superuser at that time and tried to update the su binarie but it fails on validation of new su and stopped (not replacing old su), this is the only thing I can remember of. root is still working with old su. Maybe the cleaning needs to be done ?
Has someone found a way to fix this?
edit:
after some investigation, this is what happens:
if I try to install one app from play store, it is downloaded correctly and then nothing happens.
the file downloaded is in /cache/downloadfile.apk
If I copy this file to /sdcard/external_sd/downloadfile.apk and run it manually it installs correctly.

galaxy s plus specific issue
i am having the same problem since morning and i also use Samsung galaxy s plus, so certainly the issue is phone specific.
Good news! Problem solved for me
Hi,
I contacted google play support and her was there answer:
Thanks for contacting us and I am sorry for the delay in responding.
We've gotten some reports that users with Samsung Galaxy S Plus devices running Android OS version 2.3 (Gingerbread) are having trouble using Google Play. We're aware of this issue and to solve it we recommend you to uninstall updates to the Google Play app by following these steps:
1. Tap Menu > Settings > Applications > Manage applications
2. Find the "All" tab
3. Scroll down to Play Store and tap to select
4. Tap "Uninstall updates"
Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding.
So I followed this and it works again!
Here are the steps after doing google recommendations:
- click google play icon, it will open old google market
- install an application, for me it worked again!
- exit google market
- click again the google play icon, it will ask to accept google play license
- click yes and then try to install another app, it worked again!
Hope this will solve also your issues,
Stef
I Just had the same problem. Here is how I fixed it,
- Uninstalled updates for Google Play
- I added a New Google Account.
- I Then signed into the new Google Account, Then Sign Into Your Main Account
And "BOOM" problem solved.

[Q] Google Search 3.4

Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone knew how long it normally took for google app update rollouts. Apparently version 3.4 of google search came out last Wed. When I look at the app in the play store it says the last update was on May 2nd. What's weird is when I scroll down it says that the update is 3.3 (which is what I have). Also, when I look at reviews, the ones from May 2nd show up as "old version". I tried this on my N5, N7 2013, and on my sister's N7 2012, and all three devices are the same. The N5 and N7 2013 are on the same account and the older N7 is on a different one. I'm using gravity box to change the dpi of my navigation keys on my N5, and I heard sometimes play store messes up when you do that, but seeing as the problem occurs on my non-rooted tablets it can't be that. Anyone else not getting the update?
I used to have that problem with some apps and I'd have to go to Android Police or other external source. But as far as GAPPS are concerned, I'd look at the 0day PA GAPPS thread
1. You won't be monitoring for a new update
2. You have the latest of every Google App

So even though I have use the stock ROM I should overwrite the GAPPS with those?
You can. All you're essentially doing is overwriting the current GAPPS on your phone located in system/app and system/priv-app with the one from the package. I've done it a few times. Stock and a few aosp ROMs. As always, with anything I'd always make a nandroid better safe than sorry.
Assuming you're only after one app, Android Police releases leaked Google Apps as soon as they have them. Just Google search your title of this thread and Android Police.

Got it, thanks a lot. I was just curious why it wasn't updating itself on three different devices almost a week after it was rolled out. What I also find weird is, after updating using the android police link, in the play store it still shows 3.3 as latest.

You may need to delete it manually either use a root Uninstaller or Root file Explorer and hunt down the Velvet.apk in system/app or system/priv-app (I can't remember which of the two and delete it and try installing) then try reinstalling the Android Police one. Should work, if not try wiping caches and rebooting.

Wiping cache for play store or google search?
Edit: Hmm, I cleared the data/cache for play store and cache for google search and rebooted still nothing. I guess it's fine though. Hopefully once the next update comes it will fix itself.

Yeah, I did as well. Now it's showing everything correctly. Btw, I saw that my thread was moved. I read that app and accessory related questions go in the app and accessory forums, respectively. Was I wrong? If so I'll make sure to put all questions in the Q/A section.

I'm not the moderation team, but coming from rules if I understand them correctly all questions about apps/devices pertaining to the device your using goes under the Q&A forum of your device.Glad to see that the official Google app push corrected the information for you. The app may have been installed, but because it wasn't officially pushed to Google Play yet, you weren't seeing the correct version.

Updating Play Services to 8.1.x, reverts to 7.8.99 on reboot 0_o

This is driving me crazy. I tried updating to Google Play Services 8.1.14 so I can try Android Pay. I can install the apk, and it seems to work fine. However, when I reboot I'm always back to GPS 7.8.99.
I uninstalled Android Wear, Android Pay, etc. I turned on airplane mode, reverted all GPS updates (puts it on 6.x), installed the 8.1.14 apk, and when I reboot.... still on 7.8.99!
Yes, I am using the correct built (-238). I am on stock/rooted/s-off 5.0.1 w/ root turned off in SuperSU. If anyone has any clue whats happening here, let me know!
Okay, so it looks like I solved my own problem. I reenabled root and UNINSTALLED Google Play Services via Titanium, then installed 8.1.14, and it seems to have stuck. I still have no clue why the update was reverting, but... whatever. Hopefully this helps someone in the future if they have the same issue.
Disregard my last, that was not successful. Smart Lock disappeared, and my Trust Agents page was blank with no obvious fix. I did a clean install w/ the latest stock/rooted RUU, and updated straight to services 8.1.14 apk, which worked fine (ncluding smart lock). Until...
Until an 8.1.15 auto-update. Which put me right back into the same revert on reboot loop, except now it would update to 8.1.15 a couple minutes after ever boot, and then revert to 8.1.14 every reboot.
I sorta narrowed down the problem... The 8.1.14 update I installed manually via apk resided at /data/app/com.google.android.gms-1
Every time I rebooted, it created a NEW folder and redownloaded 8.1.15 to to those folders, named com.google.android.gms-2, com.google.android.gms-3, com.google.android.gms-4, etc.
I'm assuming this is exactly what it was doing before i wiped, except 7.8.99 was installed to the com.google.android.gms-1 folder which it always reverts to.
The fix was simple: delete com.google.android.gms-1... rename com.google.android.gms-2 to com.google.android.gms-1. Delete all the extra copies.
If anyone could explain this behaviour, I would love to hear. This seems like a pretty big bug, I'm not sure if it's related to the (stock) rom or a bug with the 8.1.x google play services.
here is your fix

this was a few pages back on this section. You basically need to change the owner of '/data/app' to the system. Post 7 has the adb commands or use root explorer or some other app to change all folder and subs.

:victory: Some times my searching skills aren't up to snuff. I thought my issue was specific to play services, so this didn't come up. This is good to know, and should be added to the RUU thread!

I would agree about adding to ruu thread, however, i cannot enforce that. I know some of the newer ROMS might support that like fluent 6.1 i believe does, and santod latest debloat i have not had any of those issues with those.
No issues here. What I did was let it download gmscore, then I cut and pasted base.apk and lib (from data/app) to system/priv-app/GmsCore (deleting preeviois GmsCore.apk and lib first) and renamed to GmsCore.apk - then reboot.
Id try this.

"Unknown sources" missing on Oreo

Hi, since the Oreo update I can't find the "Unknown sources" to install APK's freely. I'ts not under "Lock Screen and Security", and I have enabled Chrome in "Applications/Special Access/Install other apps" and I'm trying to install apps from the "Downloads" section of chrome, but it dosn't work this way either.
I was trying to install the Pixel Launcher as seen from here: https://theunlockr.com/2018/03/13/make-samsung-galaxy-s9-look-like-stock-android/
But everytime I try it I get the "<!> Application not installed".
I don't know exactly what says in english, I'm using my phone in spanish.
Any ideas? Thanks!
If you go to Settings-Apps-3 Dots-Special Access-Install Unknown Apps.
They've moved it so only certain apps can install unknown apps
Please help how to fix this problem. This doesn't work, I tried installing Accuweather pro several times. I have the app saved to my Google Drive, I click on the app and I see something called 'Staging App' and then I get this alert ' There was a problem parsing the package'. I currently had an older version of Accuweather pro installed and working fine. I decided to remove the old version and then reinstall it and I received the same alert. FYI the old Accuweather app was installed before the Oreo update.

Have you tried downloading your APP file from Google Drive to your phone then opening the copy on your phone, that should install the .apk
Go to settings on the phone >> apps >> 3 vertical dots at the top right corner >> special access >> install unknown apps >> and there enable the permission from where you are trying to download it.
All thank you,
I found out that you now have to download the app to your phone. Google Drive does not allow you to download and manually install .
Dear sir/madam,
Following your answer, in specific this part, "They've moved it so only certain apps can install unknown apps", perhaps someone could help me out. I use the Firefox Focus browser and this app doesn't show up in the list of apps that are allowed to install unknown apps.
* Does this mean Firefox Focus can't install apps from unknown apps, since it's not on the list?
* And perhaps we can conclude from that it will never be allowed to do so?
* Or would this app not be on this list, because I've never tried installing anything using this browser?
I guess the real question would be, what populates this list?
I hope to hear from you, thanks in advance, all the best.
Form what I've seen, 1st time you try to install apk from an app it asks you if you want to allow it?

That's what I was thinking as well, funny thing is that 'Google Chrome' is in the list and I've never used that browser. Unless it's there, because it's from Google
I have followed the above suggestions and have allowed Chrome to install apps since that's the browser I'm using. The phone says I have downloaded the app but it is not giving me any option to install it? Where did the download go and how can I get it actually installed? This is an app for work.
Edit: Nevermind - I restarted the phone and tried again and it worked. thanks.

App Not Installed (solved)

I'm trying to update AdAway and BitSlide but both have been banned from the Play Store and/or are not available with their current versions anywhere but their own github or source sites. When I try to install them, I get a very vague and unhelpful error for "application not installed" which doesn't tell me anything.
I've tried force closing them, freezing in TiBackup and using an APK installer app from the Play Store, but nothing seems to work.
Any ideas? Googling this extensively and looking around on XDA, Reddit, etc. haven't helped.
Solution: After trying to load via ADB it provided a much more useful error for me to troubleshoot "signatures do not match previously installed version; ignoring!" which obviously meant I had signature mismatches on the apps I was trying to install. I simply uninstalled them and then was able to re-install new versions via ADB or natively on the phone (either install method worked). Simple fix!
